Day 6 (More Than A Feeling): Father

Yamato parked his car in front of Taichi's building and the brunette man and Agumon quickly hopped into it.
"Dude, I should give you a watch, so you won't be late anymore." Taichi complained as he opened the window and placed his elbow over the door.
"I wasn't that late, so shut up."
"We've been waiting for you for at least thirty minutes."
"I specifically said I was going to stop by at 2:30 p.m."
"No, you said 2 p.m."
"That's right." Gabumon joined the conversation. "I remember it."
"Whose side are you on?" Yamato asked his partner over his shoulder.
"See, even Gabumon knows I'm right."
"Whatever, let's just go. Takeru and Hikari are most likely waiting for us already."
"Sora didn't want to come along, huh?"
"She said she had some things to take care of, so she wouldn't be able to make it. But I can tell she's up to something."
"Really?" Taichi looked away and tried to sound natural, so he wouldn't give anything away. He couldn't hide his smile though. "Why do you think that?"
"She was so excited for this meeting and then suddenly she says she won't be able to go. Maybe something did happen and something unexpected came up, but I don't know."
"Maybe it's just wishful thinking from you wanting her to come too."
"Maybe. So, how's life going?"
"It's hectic at the moment, to be honest. It's kind of hard to convince people the Digital World is a good place and most Digimon are good."
"I can imagine it's many times harder for you, since it's part of your job. But I'm positive it won't last longer, as more people are getting Digimon partners each year."
"That's what I hope."
"Me too." Taichi took a deep breath. "But let's not worry about this today. Today we're just going to have fun with our siblings and partners."
"Yeah, it's going to be a good day."

.

Yamato parked his car on the first spot he found in the parking lot and then he, Gabumon, Taichi and Agumon walked into the park they were supposed to find Takeru and Hikari. The blonde took off his phone from his pocket and called Takeru.
"Hey." Takeru's voice could be heard, though very low.
"Hey, where are you?"
"We are near a sakura tree."
"What a genius." Yamato mocked. "There are tons of them currently."
"Geez, you always ruin all jokes. What a bore." Takeru rolled his eyes and laughed. Hikari's soft laugh could be heard on the background. "We are near a small river."
"We're not far from you. We'll see you in a few minutes."
"Okay, we'll be waiting. Bye."
"Is Hikari with him already?" Taichi asked when Yamato ended the call and shoved his phone back into his pocket.
"Yeah, I heard her laughing at one of Takeru's stupid and lame jokes."
"Does he still do that?"
"Yes, and it got even worse now."
"Geez" Taichi frowned. "They were already terrible and got worse?"
"That's right."

"Gabumon!" Patamon exclaimed cheerfully and flew towards him.
"Hey, guys." Takeru said as he and Hikari looked towards their brothers.
"Hey." Yamato replied as then looked around them. "You guys picked a good place to stay."
"I agree." Taichi sat down beside Hikari.
"Hey, Yamazaki, come here say hi to your uncle." She called her three-year old son softly, who came running right away and threw himself into Taichi's arms and chest.
The older Yagami fell on his back and brought his nephew along, and the child couldn't stop laughing.
"Hey kiddo, how are you today?"
"I'm good." Yamazaki said with a large smile.
"Yamazaki, you shouldn't throw yourself towards him like that. It can hurt."
"It's alright, sister." Taichi looked at her. "I really don't mind it. I actually enjoy it when he does this."
"Kenichi, look who's here."
Takeru's son looked at his father when he called him and a wide smile appeared on the child's face before he ran towards Yamato and embraced his legs.
"Uncle Yamato!"
"Hey there." Yamato ruffled his nephew's blond hair and he giggled. He then knelt down to be at his eye level. "I missed you."
"I missed you too. When are you going to take me to the space with you?"
All the adults started laughing and Yamato then looked at Kenichi again. "You're too young for that yet. Maybe in a few years we'll be able to go together."
"Really?!" His face lit up in happiness. "I can't wait for that."
"Come on, Kenichi, let's play with our Digimon." Yamazaki invited him and both kids took off again.
"You're gonna get hurt, don't run so fast." Tailmon yelled concerned.
"That's alright, Tailmon." Hikari assured her. "They love running around at this age, and it's also important for them to experience it."
"I have no doubt you are the students' favorite teacher." Takeru stated with a proud smile. "I'm not surprised, really."
"They are like my nephews and nieces when I don't have a blood one yet." The woman said the final part out loud to make sure Taichi would hear it. "But yeah, I guess they love me as much as I love them."
"Hey, Akiko and I just think it's not the right time yet. It doesn't mean we haven't talked about it though."
"You have?" Hikari turned to him surprised. "You never told me this."
"It's something recent. We'll see how it goes."
"What about you, brother? Have you and Sora talked about having children?"
"Briefly." Yamato shrugged and looked down. "We both have been so busy with work and I spent more than a year away every time I go on a mission and that gets on the way, so…"
"Yeah, that could be a problem. I'm really looking forward to being an uncle though."
"What a nice way to put pressure on us." He said playfully. "I'll make sure to tell Sora that. Maybe it will work for something."
"I sure hope so."
"Should we find something to eat now?" Hikari asked. "It's almost time for Yamazaki to eat a fruit, and it will be easier for him to eat if he sees someone else doing it. Other than me, for some reason." She rolled her eyes with annoyance.
"Leave it to me." Taichi offered. "Where's it?"
"Here." She went through her son's bag and took two small plastic pots with two apples cut roughly.
"Will he eat all of this?"
"Hardly. Half of it is for Kenichi, if he wants it. Children love doing the same thing their friend is."
"You brought food for my son?" Takeru asked a little surprised, though not much. "You didn't have to."
"I know. And I also know Kimi is very careful and thoughtful with these things, but I wouldn't feel good if I didn't bring anything to him. So here." Hikari handed another plastic pot to him. "If he wants it too. if not, you can take it home and give me my pot back next time."
"Thank you so much, Hikari." Takeru offered her a kind smile and grabbed the pot from her hands. He then turned to Yamato. "Do you want to see if he wants to eat it?"
"Sure." Yamato picked Kenichi in his arms and then the plastic pot. "Come on, little boy. Time to eat."
"Aniki, I think you better sit down for this. As far as I know, you don't have three hands."
"Right, I should have realized it." He said lightly and then sat down. "Do you want some apple, Kenichi?"
"They really don't have a clue, do they?" Hikari whispered to Takeru with her hand over her mouth.
"Not at all, and they are going to be so surprised." The blonde whispered back the same way. "It's almost time to put the second part of our plan into action. Are you ready?"
"I've been ready since the beginning. I already freaked out so much. I can't believe Akiko and Sora managed to keep this from them for so long."
"Yeah, I'm surprised they managed to hold it in all this time."
"Did Sora say anything to you already? No text messages or anything?"
"I don't think so." Takeru took his phone out of his pocket. "Oh wow, perfect timing. She just texted me."
"Part two of the plan is on."
"How is it going to work again?"
"Akiko will text Taichi at some point saying Sora needed some help with something and she was at her apartment. That's the bait to make my brother go there with Yamato."
"Great. Now we just need something very convincing to leave before them."
"We could say we're having dinner together later and the kids need to sleep first."
"I like that idea. Let's go."
Both of them looked over their shoulders to make sure their respective brothers were still busy with their respective nephews and discreetly high-fived each other.

.

"I wonder what Akiko had to help Sora with." Taichi questioned as he and Yamato went up to his floor.
"I want to know it too. Sora didn't tell me anything about it. I could have helped her depending on what it was, I suppose."
"Maybe it's something women usually do or only they can do it."
"Maybe. Either way, we're about to find out." Yamato stopped in front of the apartment he and Sora shared and for some reason he began to feel tense.
"What's wrong?"
"I don't know. I'm just feeling nervous."
"Nervous?"
"Yeah." He shrugged. "Remember when I told you earlier I get this feeling she was up to something? Well, it's stronger than ever."
"I doubt she is. But open the door and you'll have your answer."

Yamato twisted the doorknob and almost fell over Taichi when they heard the 'Surprise!' screams coming from Sora and Akiko inside the house. The two men walked inside the apartment after they recovered from their shocks.
"What's going on over here?" The blonde asked as he looked around and noticed there were some blue and red balloons spread around their living room. He also noticed their dinner table was so full of food that it was impossible they all were just for the four of them.
"There's something both us need to tell you." Sora said, trying really hard to contain her excitement. "I mean, each one of us separately, but yeah."
"Okay."
"Now I'm starting to understand why you felt like something was up." Taichi stated beside Yamato.
"So, what do you have to tell us?"
"Alright." Akiko bit her lower lip before speaking again. "Turns out we have some quite good news for you."
"I think that's quite obvious, Akiko."
"Shut up, Taichi. Let them continue."
Sora and Akiko exchanged a look with each other before going opposite ways and blowing up one of the balloons each. A small paper fell from each one of them and they grabbed it from the floor. Then they walked to Yamato and Taichi and handed them the papers.
Yamato felt like his heart could easily explode due to how fast it was beating in his chest. Everything was starting to make sense to him and it was only confirmed when he unfolded the paper his wife had just given him. He looked up at her with surprise and shock, but Taichi beat him up before he could even speak out loud.
"I'm going to be a father?!" The brunette yelled and wrapped his arms around his wife, spinning her around.
"Yes, you are!" Akiko replied excitedly as she wrapped her around his neck. "We're going to be parents!"
"This is really the best day of my life!" He put her down and hugged her tight before turning his attention to Yamato. "Did you hear that, Yamato? Akiko is expecting our first child."
"Yes, I heard it." Yamato replied as he kept looking down at the small paper he was holding, still too astonished to react.
"What's wrong, baby?" Sora asked concerned, searching for his eyes. "Didn't you like the news?"
"I did." He said slowly. "Of course I did. We have been sort of talking about it for a while now."
"We really have. I know it can be scary, but we're going to go through this together."
"Can we come out already?" Mimi's voice echoed in the hall. "We're desperate here after hearing Taichi's reaction. We want to celebrate with you all!"
"Yes, you can come out now." Sora looked towards the hall that got crowded in the following second.
The room was filled with a lot of conversations happening at once and congratulations being given to both Yamato and Taichi.
"So I'm finally going to be an uncle." Takeru said with the brightest smile ever when he approached Yamato.
"You knew about this?" He asked. "Actually, everything makes sense now. Sora saying suddenly she wouldn't be able to go to our small meeting and then the weird talk about kids and you asking me if I wanted to feed Kenichi. It was all a plan."
"I'm surprised you took this long to figure it out. You're usually so clever to catch these things first hand."
"I had a clue. I've had a strange feeling all day today. My intuition was right all along."
"So you're going to be a father."
"Yeah." Yamato couldn't help but smile with happiness. "It's a bit scary, if you ask me."
"Yeah, it is." Takeru looked at Kimi and Kenichi and smiled. "But it's also the best feeling ever."

.

"Baby?" Sora called from the hall before she walked into the living room and looked over to the balcony. She walked out and saw him sitting on a wooden bench on her right. She noticed he was holding the paper she had given to him earlier saying he was going to be a father. "There you are."
"It still feels surreal, you know?" Yamato bent forward while she approached her. "A father…"
"I know." She sat down beside him. "It was a bit of shocking when I got the results. I know we've talked about it a couple of times and agreed it was time to start a family, but it still happened faster than I expected."
"Yeah." He swallowed hard.
"If you don't want it right now, we can always…"
"No!" Yamato said rather loudly and so firmly that she leaned backwards, surprised. "I'm sorry for scaring you. I know what you were going to say and that's not an option. It surprises me you would suggest that, out of everyone."
"You're right. I don't know what came into my mind to suggest that." Sora shook her head. "Anyway, how do you feel about this?"
"Honestly?" He looked right into her cinnamon eyes. "I think this baby came just in right time."
"So I take it that you're happy about it."
"More than you think." He stretched his hand and touched her belly. "This baby is a living proof of our love."
"You're so poetic sometimes."
"My teenage years as a musician and song writer still live on. I can't run away from it, no matter how much I try."
"I wouldn't want you to." Sora let her hand fall over his. "You're right though. This baby is really a proof of our love. We have so much love for each other already it had to be transferred to another being. Our little treasure."
"I wouldn't expect anything less coming from the bearer of Love."
"Friendship is also Love, just to let you know."
"It really is." Yamato looked down insecure for a moment and bit his lower lip. "I hope you're disappoint that my reaction with the revelation wasn't as excited as Taichi's."
"I'm not disappointed at all." She cupped his face and brought it towards hers. "You have your own way of reacting to things, and I love it. It wouldn't be you if you reacted like him all the time. I don't ever want you to change it."
"Good, cause I'm not planning to change it." He leaned forward and hugged her tight. "I love you."
"I love you too, baby. And so does our unborn baby already."
