PS: The scene where Yamato sneaks into where Sora is and kisses her neck from behind is based on the movie An Officer and A Gentleman.
Also, thank you so much to everyone who read all my one-shots for Yamato's week! See you next year hopefully! x
Day 7 (Free Day): Forever Yours... Faithfully
Yamato smiled when the black car stopped in front of him. He walked towards it and sat down on the passenger's seat, shaking hands with the drive enthusiastically before he drove off.
"So I assume you desperately want to go home." Jou said when they stopped at red lights.
"I would love that, trust me." Yamato confessed with a sigh, which was quickly by a smile. "But I haven't seen Sora for months and God, I miss her so much. I really have to see her first."
"It's really sweet and cute to see you still so passionate about her after all these years."
"Sora is… everything to me. I'm sure you understand what I mean now, don't you?"
"Absolutely." Jou glanced at the golden ring in his ring finger for a moment.
"And also…" The blonde took a small dark blue velvet box out of his pocket and flung it open.
"Oh my God!" The med student exclaimed after quickly looking at it. "Are you…"
"Yes." Yamato didn't even let him finish his thought, but he didn't have to. "I've been holding this for months now. Since I left for the mission, actually."
"If you were keeping it since then, why didn't you propose to her at the time?"
"I wanted to plan something very special to her, but there was not enough time for me to prepare everything like I wanted to. And also because of the preparation for the mission and everything. Now it's the perfect timing."
"Good luck."
"Thank you." Yamato smiled back at his friend. "Thanks for picking me up at the air base, by the way."
"You're welcome. You got lucky it's my day off today. But I'm curious as to why you didn't call Takeru or maybe even Taichi."
"They think I will only come back in a few days. I couldn't risk them "accidentally" slipping to Sora and ruin my plan. Well, I'm sure Takeru would keep it for himself, but Taichi would be so excited he would let it out without realizing."
"Yeah, he wouldn't be a good choice for this indeed." Jou nodded. "So how was it like to be on a mission for the first time?"
"Oh it was amazing!" Yamato said excitedly. "It was so shocking and breathtaking, but also so thrilling. It's surreal to look at the Earth from the moon. I still can't put into words everything I felt throughout it."
"I imagine it gave you a lot of chills."
"Definitely. The whole time, actually. But it also feels so good to come back and see the sunlight again."
"I bet it's kind of scary being in the dark the whole time."
"At first, it is. Then you get used to it and it gets easier as time goes by. The last few days were unbearable though. I was desperate to come back."
"How long have you stayed there again?"
"Three months."
"Wow, I thought it was twice as that. I lost track of the time."
"It really seems much more than that."
"Either way, it's good to have you back again."
"Thanks, Jou." Yamato smiled gently at his friend. "Hate to break it to you, but you'll have to put up with me for at least one year."
"You say it like it's a bad thing."
"And isn't it?" He teased.
"Sometimes it is." Jou laughed warmly. "I'm just kidding. It's never a bad thing pulling up with you."
Yamato simply looked at the exterior rear-view mirror as the hot wind from Odaiba messed his spiky blonde hair.
.
Yamato walked inside Sora's atelier and grabbed his phone, quickly typing a message to Takeru.
Hey brother! I was wondering if you could go to my house, pick up my guitar and take it to this address below today. It's very important and urgent. You can leave it with Akira, he's already aware of it and will keep it for me until tonight. Thank you so much!
Then he walked to the reception and was happy to see Kira talking to their receptionist.
"Hey, Kira. I'm sorry to interrupt you." Yamato said a little tense already. "Is Sora here?"
"Hey, Yamato. It's good to have you back. Yes, she's in the dressing room actually. She's assisting a costumer right now, but she might be finishing it."
"Oh good. Is it okay if I go see her?"
"Yes, of course! Do you want us to let her know you're here?"
"No, that's alright. I want to make a surprise for her."
"Okay. You know where it is already."
"I do. Thank you so much."
.
Yamato walked further inside the atelier, fully paying attention to everything around him. It wasn't a big place, but it's more than enough for both Sora and Kira to start their careers as fashion stylists. The decoration was quite nice, and he could tell exactly which part of it were Sora's ideas. He couldn't help but smile as he walked towards the dressing room and felt his heart beating faster each second. The costumer and her mother - or so Yamato thought - left the room before he reached it. He was glad he wouldn't have to wait more to see his girlfriend again after months.
He sneaked very silently into the room and couldn't believe his luck when he watched her so focused on the yukata on the mannequin. Just as silently and slowly, he walked to her and kissed her neck.
"What the…" Sora turned around and immediately covered her mouth with her hand. She was in absolute shock with the situation. "Yamato?! Oh my God!"
She quickly jumped on him and wrapped her legs around his waist and her arms around his neck. He embraced her by the waist.
"When did you come back? Weren't you supposed to return in a few more days?"
"Yeah, I lied to you about it." He told her with a huge grin on his lips. "I wanted to make a surprise for you."
"You sneaky!" She playfully hit him on his shoulder. "You certainly surprised me."
"Mission accomplished."
"Oh God, I missed you so much!" She stared into his deep blue eyes she only saw through video calls in these past three months. "Are you actually here?"
He let out a warm smile and looked down for a moment, before placing his left hand on her right cheek. "I can guarantee I am."
"These past few months seemed like years! I'm so glad it's over now. It's so crazy that you're standing right in front of me right now. I'm afraid of even blinking and realizing you are gone again."
"Lucky for you, I'm not planning to go anywhere anytime soon. You're gonna have to put up with me almost 24/7."
"Hey, I'm not complaining about it at all." She said in a lovingly tone before standing on her toes and kissing him passionately. After several minutes and many kisses later to make up for all the time they spent apart, they pulled away from each other. "Welcome home, baby."
"Thank you." Yamato stared down at her tenderly. "Can you ditch the rest of work today? I was kind of hoping we could spend the rest of the day together."
"You don't even need to ask twice." Sora told him with a smile. "Work, what work? It can wait."
"I thought so." He reached down for her hand and intertwined his fingers with hers. "Let's go."
.
"Oh wow." Yamato didn't even hide his amazement when he walked into his and Sora's bedroom and saw her sitting in front of the mirror putting on earrings. He instantly forgot he was folding the cuffs of his shirt.
"I like how spontaneous your reactions are sometimes." Sora said lightly and had a smile on her face when she looked at him.
"I'm sorry if I can't handle seeing my already stunning girlfriend effortlessly managing to look even stunning."
"You deserve a kiss just for that."
"Then I might as well just get it." Yamato lifted her chin gently and kissed her tenderly. "By the way, I expect to get much more than just a kiss tonight."
"Your first day back on Earth and you're already that greedy?" She teased while looking at him through the mirror.
He was now sitting on the edge of their bed behind her, back to casually folding the cuffs of his white shirt. "I've spent the last three months on the Moon. Don't you think I deserve to be made up for the time I was away?"
"Hmm we'll see about that." Sora said mysteriously and looked for some rings on her jewelry box.
"If our reservation wasn't that close now, I would totally be okay with ditching dinner."
"I thought you were starving and desperate to eat real food.
"And I am. But nothing beats how much I missed you." He ran his hand through her bare right arm. "How much I missed touching you like this. I just want to feel you close to me all night tonight.
"Yeah? To do what exactly?"
"Want me to show you?" Yamato sat down next to her and stared at her so intensely she felt her cheeks blushing right away. "I can give you a glimpse of it, but I'm saving the best for last."
"A glimpse would be nice." Sora felt her legs lose balance and was beyond thankful she was sitting down, so she wouldn't fall. Her voice came out weaker than she wanted to.
"Alright." He wrapped his arms around her and held her chin once again. "But I must warn you this is just a glimpse. You'll have to wait for more later."
"I think I can handle that just fine."
"Good." The word came out of his mouth barely inaudible due to his lips collapsing into her red ones in a very passionately kiss.
A spontaneous moan escaped her lips when they finally pulled away from each other. Her hand slipped down his neck and chest before it came to rest on her thighs, above her red dress. Yamato had a proud and satisfied smile on his lips.
"I definitely wouldn't mind ditching dinner right now, after this."
"Well, now you'll have to wait a few more hours." There was a cheeky grin on his face when stood up and left their bedroom.
.
The decoration of the restaurant has gotten Sora in awe from the moment she made her way to the second floor with Yamato. Everything before that seemed normal to her, but now she couldn't help but noticed the lights were a little down and there was a red tone on everything that she had her eyes on. She began to wonder if Yamato was planning to do something that night, and her suspicions made her heart pound on her chest and her hands start to sweat.
"Is everything okay?" Yamato looked at her over his shoulder when he noticed she had taken her hand away.
"Yeah, everything is fine." She tried to smile and sound reassuringly and hoped he'd believe her.
He looked at her with attention for a while longer before turning his focus back ahead. Sora shook her head and kept looking at everything intently. The fact there were very few people eating at a time when it's usually crowded also got her very confused and suspicious.
"Here we are." Yamato spoke again after they stopped at the table booked for them and then pulled the chair away for her to sit.
"Thank you." Sora offered him a smile and hung her purse on her chair. "This one is quite fancy."
"It is, but we deserve it tonight." He was surprised to sound so calm and steady because he was freaking out on the inside. He tapped the pocket on his suit to make sure he hadn't forgotten their engagement rings. "Do you want something to drink?"
"Not really. I'm hungrier than thirsty, to be honest."
"Me too. I'm going to order a bottle of champagne and we can also decide what we want to eat, is that okay?"
"That's fine by me, but isn't a bottle of champagne really expensive here? I mean, we can use the money for something else we need."
"Don't worry. I understand your concerns and I have them too, but we can do both. It's our first date after three months apart after all."
"You're right. We're allowed to have anything we want tonight."
"Exactly." Yamato lifted his hand to get the waiter's attention and he came right away. "We want a bottle of champagne and… what do you want to eat?"
"Uh… I'm really in the mood for some pasta, so…" Sora grabbed the menu and looked at the food options. "This pasta with white sauce and lobsters seems pretty delicious."
"Lobsters?"
"Hey, you said it's our first date after three months." She teased with a smile. "I can definitely go for something cheaper though."
"No, you can have it. In fact, make it two." He looked at the waiter. "And also, please tell Akira it's time. He will know what it's about."
"It's time for what?" Sora questioned, ignoring the tension building up on her chest once again.
"You'll find out soon." Yamato replied mysteriously and then stood up, walking towards her and stretching his hand for her. "For now, let's dance."
"Dance?" She looked around to see if the other people on the floor were staring at them and then looked up at him. "But, baby, you don't really like to dance. Especially slow dance."
"I'm making an exception tonight." He said simply. "So, will you give me the honor of a dance?"
Sora couldn't help but smile and blush a little. She looked down and then grabbed his hand. "You don't have to be so formal with me, you know? But yes, I will."
Her arms wrapped around his neck while his rested on her lower back and they slowly started swinging around the place, but subtly because they still didn't want to put on a show for the other costumers of the restaurant.
"It feels so good to have you back after these three months." She confessed when she laid her head on his chest. "I missed you so, so much."
"I know what you mean. I missed you a lot too."
The waiter returned with their meals about ten minutes after he had brought the bottle of champagne. At that point, half of it had already been drunken. Sora was really puzzled as to why his red guitar was there and being given by the waiter.
"Thank you." Yamato addressed to him, who subtly nodded his head and left.
"Baby, why did he have your guitar? What's going on here? I don't… oh God." She was unable to react when he started strumming Faithfully, by Journey, on his instrument. "This is our song. It was playing when you told me you loved me for the first time. You still remember it."
"How could I forget it?" He smiled softly and looked down at his guitar as he kept on playing the song.
Sora watched him start singing with wonder and muttered the lyrics with him. She would normally sing along at the top of her lungs whenever they were alone in their house, but she definitely didn't want to attract more attention than they already were. Plus, not singing would allow her to appreciate Yamato's voice much more. Eventually the song came to an end and Yamato looked up at Sora again.
"That was amazing, baby!" She said excitedly and clapped her hands. "It's so good to see you singing and playing again. I love when you do that."
"Thanks, baby. I haven't done it in a while, so I was a little rusty."
"Well, I think you were perfect. I'm proud of you."
"I'm happy to hear that." The smile on his face was quickly replaced by a heavy sigh and a serious expression. "Listen, there's something I need to ask."
"Okay." Her tone was insecure. "You can ask me anything you want."
"Good." He took a deep breath and stood up again, walking to her and grabbing her hands. "Can you please stand up?"
"Sure." For some reason she couldn't understand completely, tears started falling from her eyes. They were in no way sad tears. In fact, they were happy tears in anticipation of a very emotional moment.
Yamato stared at their hands laced together. Somehow it gave him the courage to go further with it. "I've been thinking about it since I left for this mission and it just feels so right for me to do it now."
Sora covered her mouth in shock when he got down on one knee and grabbed the small square box from his pocket while kept holding her right hand. "Yamato, you… oh my God!"
"Sora." He opened the small box and she came across two gorgeous golden engagement rings. "Will you make me the happiest man alive and let me make you the happiest woman ever and marry me?"
She didn't remember ever feeling her heart beating this fast and feeling so many emotions at the same time. She forced herself to kneel down in front of him, not caring at all about holding her smile and having other people blatantly watching them.
"I can't believe you did this!" Sora was too astonished and happy to say anything else. "Yes, yes, yes! I will marry you!"
Her hand was shaking so much when he put the ring on her finger that she had to hold her arm to keep it steady. Their eyes met soon after she returned the gesture and they leaned in for a brief kiss and a tight hug.
"By the way, you already make me the happiest woman ever. You make me fall in love with you more and more everyday."
"I love you so much, baby. Oh scratch that, I'm so in love with you and will be for the rest of my life."
They pulled away from the hug and stared at the rings on their hands placed together with the brightest smiles. Yamato stood up and helped Sora do the same. Then they leaned in for another hug. Some people in the restaurant cheered and clapped, which made Sora blush heavily. In a very low volume, almost inaudible, Faithfully was playing again on the sound box of the place.
