Wonder Women

Princesses of Themyscira

/2022, Kent Farm, Smallville\

Screeching disturbed the serene evening at the Kent Farm. Clark winced, his sensitive super-hearing taking quite the hit at his son's forceful lungs. Not that he wasn't to be blamed himself; he'd been listening, specifically, for the youngest member of their family. Better than any baby-monitor, that super-hearing. At least until the baby actually woke up. His wife heaved a sigh and pulled her feet out of his lap to get up and tend to their son, just to be stopped by Clark.

"I believe it's your turn tucking the girls in, Diana" Clark smiled as he leaned in until their noses brushed. "Let me go and check on Chris, mh? Make sure he doesn't wake ma."

"Your mother can sleep like a stone, she is used to so much mischief from you, love."

Though Diana returned his smile and turned her head enough to kiss him softly. They both left the cozy living room and their evening reading behind to take care of their three youngest. Their ways parted when Clark entered the nursery to see why their baby was screaming and Diana continued on her way toward the twins' bedroom. Both girls were sitting on the floor, playing.

While Chris was barely a few weeks old, their girls were five already. Time passed far too fast. Diana smiled as she knelt down next to her daughters, gently smoothing Lyta's black hair down and pressing a kiss to the top of her head. While both girls had the blue eyes their parents shared, Lara's bright-blonde hair stood out. Though, according to Kara, Clark's mother had been blonde too and little Lara looked a lot like her namesake. The reason they'd chosen that name. Lara Martha Kent, honoring both of Clark's mothers. While Hippolyta Philippus Kent honored Diana's mothers.

"My little Amazons, it's time to go to bed now."

"No—o," Lara stared at her with the largest possible eyes. "Jon's not home yet!"

Diana huffed a little at that. "Your brother is on patrol with Damian."

"It's unfair," declared Lyta with a pout, crossing her arms. "Why can he go on patrols? I wanna go on patrols too! Me and Andy are gonna be the biggest heroes ever!"

"I'm sure you and Andy will do me and Arthur proud one day," Diana smiled amused. "But your brother is ten years older than you. You're five, you're not going out on patrol. We'll talk again when you're teenagers and even then you'd only get to go out there with supervision."

"Jonny's not supervisioned," argued Lara upset, waving her arms.

"Your uncle Bruce does not let Damian out without surveilance," Diana chuckled. "He always keeps track of him, which means he also keeps track of Jon."

"Because Jonny and Dami are always together," Lara giggled. "Kon says they kiss in a tree."

Of course he does. Typical big brother, never missing an opportunity to tease Jon. Not that Diana, Clark and Bruce hadn't all also noticed that Damian and Jon were very, very close. Which was something that Clark and Diana should have already anticipated. After all, they'd taken in two fully grown teenagers in Conner and Clark even back when Jon was still a toddler, so they'd seen teenage life. They had seen identity crises and first kisses and tentative first relationships. Still, it was different when one raised a child from the day of their birth. Growing up happened so fast and suddenly, they were old enough to date and fight crime. Well, Diana was still skeptical about that one and she did think that Jon had started going out far too early. But he was Superman's son, sitting idly by when he had the powers to do something? That didn't fly by. At least Jon had his big brother Conner to watch out for him, as well as his partner in crime-fighting, Damian Wayne.

"Come on now, girls. Bedtime," Diana got up, giving her daughters a pointed look. "You're not going to stay up until Jon gets back home. Are your teeth brushed?"

"Ye—es," Lyta and Lara chorused, still pouting softly.

Both girls ran over toward their princess beds – Lara's with Batman-themed bed-sheets and Lyta's with cartoon pegasi from the latest My Little Pony reboot that both girls adored. They crawled beneath their blankets and stared at their mother expectantly. Ah. No bed-time without a story. Diana smiled and sat down on the rocking chair placed between the two beds, to be occupied by Clark, Diana, Martha or, on some rare occasions, by Donna or Conner to read a bedtime story.

"What do you want me to read to you?" Diana asked. "Cinderella? The Little Mermaid?"

Cinderella was Lara's favorite, while The Little Mermaid was Lyta's. Usually, it was a duel between those two tales these days. The two girls exchanged a look and then shook their heads hard.

"We wanna hear about you! And big sis," both girls chorused together.

"You...?" Diana trailed off, a little surprised by their request.

"Yes! Cassie said how she became Wonder Girl because Donna was Wonder Woman," Lyta elaborated, looking eager. "Why was big sis Wonder Woman? You are Wonder Woman!"

"But then Cassie says that auntie Nubi was also Wonder Woman," added Lara. "Why?"

"Okay. Then let me tell you the story of the Wonder Women, mh? Where do you want me to start?"

"Why do you and auntie Nubi not look alike?" Lyta spoke up first. "You're twins! Like Lara and me, but Lara and me look like nearly the same only that Lara's hair is yellow."

"So the earliest beginning then, mh?" Diana leaned back in her seat, watching her daughters. "Then settle in, my little Amazons, and let me tell you about your grandmas."

/once upon a time, on Themyscira\

The island of Themyscira had been a safe harbor for women ever since Queen Otrera had founded it. After her death, Otrera left her beloved island to her three daughters – Hippolyta, Melanippe and Antiope, all three strong and with the godly blood of their father Ares flowing through their veins. They didn't think that this blood should entitle them to the throne and they didn't think that even among them, being born first should determine who would become queen, so the three sisters established a rule of strength. All who thought they had what it took to become queen of Themyscira could participate in the Trials of the Amazons.

And so the three sisters faced off with other Amazons who thought themselves worthy. Hippolyta emerged victorious, proving her strength, her cunning and her strategic knowledge in the trials.

Though she had never born the title of Wonder Woman, one created by her daughter, to Diana, Hippolyta would always be the first Wonder Woman. A hero, a symbol of strength and kindness in leadership. Someone who kept her people safe, protected them, fought against monsters. Everything a Wonder Woman did today, Hippolyta had done for so, so many centuries.

Hippolyta became queen and her sisters became her most trusted advisors and generals.

Back then, Themyscira had still been open. Still accepting new arrivals. Among them, the woman who would become consort to the queen and a loyal general of Themyscira. Philippus.

Born a man, Philippus had been unsure if she would even be allowed onto Themyscira – the island of women, where no man shall step foot on. Yet womanhood was not defined by one's birth but by one's heart and deeds. And thanks to the magic of the island, Philippus got to look the way she had always felt, the way she had always seen herself. The only thing of her old life that she kept was her name. Philippus was her name and she loved it, even if it was usually associated with men. No, it was hers and she was a woman, so Philippus was now a woman's name too.

Hippolyta and Philippus grew closer and Philippus rose to become a well-trusted general of the queen, far before the two ever shared their first kiss. Their wedding ceremony was one of the greatest celebrations Themyscira had ever seen.

With her wife at her side and her island filled with the people she cherished and wanted to protect, Hippolyta was happy. Should be happy. But something was missing in her life. She loved her Amazons dearly, but she'd noticed that she took more to the younger ones to join. The teenagers fleeing from bad homes or the future of an arranged marriage. Hippolyta loved guiding them, loved being a mentor to the young. But wars in the human world and people attacking their beautiful island had forced the queen's hand. She'd chosen to isolate Themyscira to protect her people.

Hippolyta longed to be a mother. It became more and more apparent to her wife. Now, Philippus had never considered being a mother herself, but with the love of her life? On this island that was more home than any place before? Yes, Philippus could imagine raising a child.

And so she had prayed to the gods. Prayed for help, to fulfill this wish of her wife's.

Zeus granted their wish. Philippus and Hippolyta went to the shores of Themyscira and formed two babies out of clay. Philippus sculpted one out of light clay, in the image of her wife. And Hippolyta sculpted one out of dark clay, in the image of her wife. As the babies laid at the shore and the women prayed to the Gods, Zeus breathed life into the clay sculptures.

And this was how Diana and her twin-sister Nubia had come to be.

/back to 2022's Smallville\

"Is that how you and daddy made us and Jon and Chris too?" Lyta asked eagerly.

That wasn't exactly a question Diana was eager to answer just yet. "Yes, of course."

They'd barely had the talk with Jon and it had been awkward enough. Five year olds were decidedly too young to learn how babies were made, if no clay was involved. For now, Lyta and Lara seemed appeased by this answer. Yet neither of them looked sleepy at all.

"And why did you become Wonder Woman but not auntie Nubi?" Lara asked next.

"I've always been fascinated by the human world," Diana started to answer, brushing her hand over Lara's golden curls. "I loved listening to the Amazons' tales about the human world from before they came to live on Themyscira. Nubia... not so much. She was always very immersed in learning the ins and outs of our island, the politics behind it. She trained hard to one day succeed our mother on the throne, to one day win the Trials of the Amazons herself..."

"So... you left them behind?" Lyta frowned at the thought of leaving Lara behind.

"I... wanted to follow my own path, yes. Your uncle Arthur had been coming to the island for a couple of years, because he'd been a child, but he was a grown up man by now and I knew he would no longer be allowed onto the island. It pained me to see him leave for good. Themyscira would always be my home and I will always be able to return, but my time with Arthur was precious. And his stories of the modern human world had me more eager than ever before, so I chose to go to Maine with Arthur and leave Themyscira, knowing the island would be safe in the hands of my sister and mothers, even if leaving them hurt me a great deal."

/2002, Themyscira\

Hippolyta stood with her arms crossed and a deep frown on her face. She didn't speak. Just standing in the corner of the room, glaring daggers at her daughter. For her part, Diana mostly ignored her. She was too busy packing. There were books she wanted to take, armor and weapons that were hers and that she knew she would need. Hippolyta's glare intensified.

"My love," Philippus spoke up as she approached her wife. "Stop glaring at our daughter."

"She wants to leave," Hippolyta's voice was an angry hiss. "This island is safe. Man's world is not. It's filthy, it's dangerous, it's-"

"It's not the same it was when we cut ourselves off," Philippus interrupted Hippolyta. "It has changed and I do not want to believe it changed for the worse. And even if it did... Diana is a grown woman, she ought to be allowed to choose her own path. As you and I have."

"I don't want..." Hippolyta wavered, her eyebrows drawing together. "What if something happens to her? It's... so far away, so vast, with so many dangers..."

"And our daughter is strong," Philippus reminded her wife. "And determined."

Hippolyta heaved a sigh but she rested her forehead against Philippus' shoulder. Diana chanced a glance at them, feeling herself fill with relief. Her mother's vocal protests to her plans were the one thing that kept her reluctant. Never would she want to break her moms' hearts. In that moment, she was grateful for Philippus to be on her side, because if anyone could ease the queen into something, then it was her first general and wife. Pleased with all she had packed up, Diana grabbed her belongings and walked over to her mothers. She found herself wrapped in both their arms, being hugged tightly. She could feel her mothers' love and warmth.

"We will bring you to the beach to say goodbye. Everyone is waiting to see you off."

Diana nodded and led the way, followed by her mothers. The first to greet her at the beach was her sister. Diana's heart clenched as she looked at Nubia. For all her life, Nubia had been her best friend and closest confidant. Leaving her behind, the thought hurt even more than leaving her mothers.

"Di," Nubia offered a genuine smile as she opened her arms. "I will miss you, sister."

"I will miss you too, Nubi," Diana hugged her sister as tightly as she could. "Watch out for our mothers for me. And if anything, anything at all, happens, know I will be on my know."

"And you, know that the same is true for me," Nubia brought enough distance between them to look Diana in the face. "If what you face out there becomes too much, you will always have a home here and I will always fight at your sight. Your battles are my battles, sister."

"C'mon. If we want to reach Maine before sundown, we should leave, cuz."

Both sisters turned toward Arthur Curry. The prince of Atlantis, ever since he had started visiting Themyscira, had become a dear little cousin to Diana. Nubia had spent much less time with Arthur, but that was also because she distanced herself from the fragile mortality of man's world. She was acutely aware of the short life-span Arthur had and of how much it would hurt if she would let him into her heart. Diana, she had no such sense for practicality. She simply loved.

"You, watch out for our girl, young man," demanded Hippolyta in a stern voice.

"Yes, aunt Hippo," promised Arthur with a half-grin. "I got her back."

Diana stepped up to Arthur and turned to look at her family one last time. Hippolyta, Philippus and Nubia stood up front, but all Amazons of Themyscira had gathered together to see their princess off.

/back to 2022's Smallville\

Lyta looked confused as she stared at her mother. "But ma. Grandmas are in Washing Thing? They're not living on the island, right? Why was granny Hippo so against it?"

Diana laughed softly and leaned over to wrap an arm around Lyta's waist. "Yes, your grandmas are living in Washington now, but that only came later. After your brother Jon was born, after I've been the ambassador of Themyscira for five years, establishing a relationship with man's world.

Only after years of consideration and learning about man's world through me did your grandma decide to open Themyscira's borders again. To welcome new Amazons to live with us and to form ties with man's world. Now, I became more and more busy with my role as Wonder Woman and now your dad and I had Conner, Donna and baby Jon to take care off too..."

/2007, Themyscira\

Diana glowered slightly even as her and Clark landed on the shores of the island she had called home for so long. Well, Diana landed. Clark remained hovering just above the ground, knowing and respecting the rules of Themyscira. He rested a hand on his wife's shoulder, trying to reassure her.

"You know this is for the best, love."

"Is she still too stubborn to understand why we're doing this?" asked Hippolyta.

Waiting for her was Diana's family. The first to hug her was her sister, while Hippolyta exchanged a look with Clark. When Diana had first introduced Clark as her lover, her mothers had been surprised. Then again, she never had men to fall for on the island, there were only women and only relationships with women. But going into man's world had made Diana realize that she liked both, men and women. The next surprise for her mothers was what strength and kindness Clark had. Powerful like a god, but benevolent. He had quickly won Diana's family over.

"You are no longer just you, sister," Nubia grasped her hands for a moment before placing them on Diana's stomach. "You're a strong fighter and you can take quite the punch, but... this baby of yours can't. You have to consider their safety and well-being too."

"I am aware," Diana's voice had an edge. "It's just... frustrating. I'm a hero. I'm needed out there. I'm the ambassador for Themyscira, I've established good relations with Washington."

"We know this and we're so proud of you," Hippolyta assured her.

"And we've talked about this before you arrived," tagged Philippus on. "For the time of your pregnancy, I will... step up as the ambassador and I'll take over your duties in Washington."

Diana looked surprised at that, but she had to smile. "Thank you, mother."

"And we also know how important it is to you to protect people," Nubia spoke up. "I spoke to your husband and to Arthur about it and... for the limited time of your pregnancy, I... will be Wonder Woman for you. I don't want you to worry about the people dear to you. I want you to know that they are protected. That we will do everything in our powers to do you justice."

"So you can take some time for yourself and focus on you and the baby," added Clark with the softest smile, resting one hand on Diana's stomach. "Our baby."

Diana rested her own hand on top of his, getting lost in his endlessly blue eyes. She should have known. After all, Clark's dedication to helping the people was one of the qualities she had fallen for. Clark too would be agitated if he'd be out of commission for months. For him to organize a replacement to fill her shoes while she couldn't was incredibly thoughtful. And for her sister, who had never cared for man's world, to agree to go out there and help her, it meant the world.

"Why don't you get settled in for you? Your old room is still there for you," offered Hippolyta.

Diana nodded and took her husband's hand to lead Clark into the palace. He seemed so amazed as he took everything in, even as he made sure not to touch the ground below. He was so thoughtful. His first suggestion about her pregnancy had been for her to stay at the Fortress of Solitude. But Diana, who had grown up on a hot paradise island, didn't mix all that well with the ice and snow of the Arctic. Not to mention the isolation. Her husband could visit her, but otherwise, it wasn't very accessible. Here – even with Philippus and Nubia gone to take over for her – there were all the Amazons she had grown up with, and so many new Amazons she had yet to meet. She would be able to keep busy and not be bored to death. Even though she had to admit that Clark's idea had been good on behalf of the unknown factors of this pregnancy. Clark was an alien, he came from a whole different planet. It hadn't even been a given that the two of them were compatible to have a child to begin with. This? This baby, born to a demigoddess and a Kryptonian? Who knew what dangers this pregnancy may mean for Diana, or for the baby. The Fortress of Solitude had, aside from the ice and the cold, also the Kryptonian technology to monitor her.

"We'll still go to the fortress regularly for check-ups, okay?" Diana side-eyed her husband, seeing the worried crinkle between Clark's eyebrows. "It will be alright, darling. I'm no ordinary woman. If there is anyone on Earth who is suited for a super-powered pregnancy, it's a demigod, mh?"

A laugh escaped Clark and he placed a gentle kiss on top of her head. "You're right. I'm just... I'm so worried. For both you and the baby. If anything happened to you..."

"Nothing will happen to my sister. She is safe here. Worry about the world you protect instead."

With those firm words did Nubia step into Diana's room. Diana's eyes widened in surprise, before a fond smile stretched over her lips. Nubia was wearing armor matching Diana's but with a flipped color-scheme. Where Diana's breast-plate and boots were dark red, Nubia's were dark blue. Diana's skirt was blue, but Nubia's was red. The metal on Diana's was silver, but Nubia's was golden. Matching their diadems. As princesses of Themyscira they had diadems since their teenage years, Diana a silver one with a star-shaped ruby, while Nubia's was golden with a star-shaped sapphire. Additionally, Nubia was wearing golden rings and adornments in her dreadlocks.

"What do you think?" Nubia grinned and turned once. "Do I make a good Wonder Woman?"

Diana walked over to her to hug her fiercely. "Thank you, sister."

/back to 2022's Smallville\

Both Lyta and Lara looked incredibly eager at that. Of course they did. In their bedroom hung a picture of both Diana and Nubia in their Wonder Woman suits. On the rarest of occasions, on her biggest of fights, Diana knew she could not just call her husband and her cousin to back her up, but she also knew Nubia would don the Wonder Woman identity once more.

"And that is how your grandma Philippus fell in love with man's world. It had changed so much since she had last seen it. For the better and for the worst. But the one thing that stayed the same was the hope in it. Hope is the most important thing humans have."

After Jonathan's birth, Diana stayed for another month on Themyscira before returning to Smallville. The farm had truly become home to Diana, she loved the connection to the Earth and the honest labor. And she loved having Martha here, to help with the kids. Particularly with Diana and Clark's identities as superheroes, raising a toddler was challenging. So to have Clark's mother live in the same house as them, to always know Jon save and loved, was important.

"So auntie Nubi was Wonder Woman because you were taking care of Jon?" Lara asked curiously. "Was she Wonder Woman when you were taking care of Lara and me too?"

"No," Diana reached out to tuck a golden strand behind Lara's ear. "When I was pregnant with you two, Nubia was already queen of the Amazons. Since Philippus blossomed in her role as ambassador, your grandma Hippolyta decided to join her wife, having been apart for too long. Ever since, the two of them have been exploring man's world together, forging bonds with other countries. Despite her earlier reluctance, Hippolyta actually grew... fond of this world. Of the women she could help, she could offer a new home to. But with these new duties, Themyscira needed a new queen. The Trials of the Amazons were held and Nubia won by a landslide."

Pride seeped into her voice at that. Of course was she proud of her sister for winning, for earning the title of queen and not simply inheriting it because she was the daughter of Hippolyta.

"No, when I was pregnant with the two of you, your big sister stepped up," Diana continued.

/2017, Themyscira\

The crown suited Nubia. Figuratively speaking; the queen did not actually wear a crown. There was a sense of authority and pride to how Nubia carried herself though. The two sisters were sitting together on the balcony, overseeing the training field. With them was Donna.

Though Donna had been about fourteen years old when she had come to life, a clone of Diana created by CADMUS, to Diana she had always been a daughter to Diana. She had been an aimless girl when Diana and Clark had taken her and Conner in, but she had blossomed into a beautiful young woman. Diana was sure that her time with the Teen Titans had helped her a lot; for two years, she had trained with other teen side-kicks, not just learning to grasp her powers but also learning social skills by being with other super-powered upcoming heroes.

"Two, huh?" Donna asked, side-eyeing Diana.

"Not entirely what your father and I had planned either, but no less wanted," Diana looked down at her stomach with tender eyes. "But with them being twins, I plan on retiring earlier than I did with Jon. There are far more risks involved in a pregnancy with twins."

"Ah," Donna turned to oversee the training, easily spotting her little brother. "So that's why we brought Jon along this time. You're here to... stay. For the time being."

"Yes. Clark and I talked about what to do with Jon, I know that Clark, Conner and Martha could very well watch out for him, but when we asked him what he wants... He wants to stay with us both. So we decided he should stay some time with me here, learning more about his Greek roots, and the other time at home in Smallville. He's been learning more about his Kryptonian heritage at the Fortress of Solitude, from Kara, but... I do want him immersed in Themysciran culture too. He is part of me as much as he is part of Clark, after all."

"Ah," Donna nodded in understanding, having spent months living here after she came into being. "So, will you take over as Wonder Woman again, aunt Nubia?"

"I'm no longer just a princess," Nubia replied, smoothing her dress over her folded legs. "I'm the queen. I can't just leave my people for a couple of months like that, I have responsibilities."

Donna furrowed her brows in confusion, looking from her aunt over to her mother. "Then who...?"

Diana offered her a gentle smile and reached out to tuck Donna's hair behind her ear. "You're twenty-three years old. You're no longer a girl. I know you've considered changing your superhero alias ever since Dick became Nightwing but you've never settled for one. I want you to try out the title of Wonder Woman. Perhaps it'll help you find your way."

Donna's eyes widened in surprise at that. It had a logic to itself, of course, for her as Diana's clone – as Diana's daughter – to take the mantle of Wonder Woman, yet for some reason, the thought had never crossed Donna's mind before. It was a great honor, that much was for sure.

"Ma, ma, ma!"

The loud screaming of Jon interrupted the moment. Happy screaming though, so no reason to be alarmed. Donna, Diana and Nubia all turned toward the young boy, just to find him on the shoulders of a teenage girl. She was wearing a black headband with a golden star on it, holding her blonde hair back. A carefree smile on her lips as she held onto his legs so he wouldn't fall off.

"I see you've made a friend," Diana looked amused. "Hello there."

The blonde girl paused and stared at Diana with the widest possible eyes, as though she had just met a real life superstar. Which Wonder Woman certainly was. Nubia next to Diana chuckled.

"One of our newest arrivals, Cassandra Sandsmark. Her and her mother have been staying with us for a few weeks now," Nubia offered. "She's a demigod, daughter of Zeus. After her mother heard that we open our borders, she's been debating with herself to come here. To offer Cassandra a connection to others like her."

Diana raised her eyebrows impressed. Over the years of living in man's world, Diana had met a couple of demigods already, but always only in passing. Cassandra was still staring at her.

"I am your biggest fan, ma'am. I'm Cassie, it's such an honor to meet you."

"She's really cool," added Jon excitedly. "She's been showing me around a little."

"Thank you for taking care of my son, Cassie," Diana offered her hand. "I'm Diana."

"I know who you are, you're Wonder Woman," blurted Cassie out in excitement.

"Well," Diana smirked and turned toward Donna. "Not for the next couple of months. That's my daughter, Donna. And she's going to be Wonder Woman for the time being."

"Oh," Cassie's eyes widened and then her expression changed, as though she saw an opportunity as she zoomed in on Donna. "If you're new to being Wonder Woman, I'm sure you could use back-up! A Wonder Girl of your own, right? I mean sure I'm nineteen, but that's like still 'girl' material, right? I swear, I'm really well-trained and I got the powers and-"

"Slow down, kid," requested Nubia. "Donna has only just become Wonder Woman."

"Right," Cassie grinned sheepishly. "But if you do need back-up, know to find me, okay?"

/back to 2022's Smallville\

Lyta gasped softly and Lara leaned forward with wide eyes. "And that's how Kon and Cassie met and fell in lo—ove, right? Right?"

Laughing, Diana leaned back, trying to change her position in the chair some. "That is how Kon and Cassie met, yes. Because your dad and Conner joined us that evening for a celebratory feast. But they didn't start dating until a year later, after they'd been working together on the Young Justice team for months. Though I do think that Cassie had a crush on Conner even before, yes."

Both her daughters giggled at that. Because love was funny and silly to them and they enjoyed making fun of their big siblings. Personally, Diana thought that Conner and Cassie were good for each other and she was glad that he had found someone to love who loved him as much.

"Oh, and after we were born, you became Wonder Woman again. That's why Donna is Troia!"

"Exactly, Lyta," Diana reached out to poke her daughter's nose. "Her time as Wonder Woman, and her time working together with Cassie had helped her find who she was."

"Do you think..." Lara interrupted herself with a wide yawn. "That Lyta or I will be Wonder Girl?"

"You could both be the Wonder Girls if you want to be," Diana smiled at her daughters. "But I'm sure Kara would also proudly pass on the mantle of Supergirl to one or both of you. Or you can make a name wholly for yourselves. If that is what you want. There is no pressure for either of you to become a hero at all, okay? You're perfect the way you are."

Both girls were snuggled into their blankets and were finally asleep. Getting up, Diana leaned first over Lyta to kiss her forehead and then over Lara, making sure both her daughters were well-tucked in. She was as quiet as possible as she walked out of the girls' bedroom and closed the door behind herself. Leaning against the wall next to the door was her husband, a small smile on his lips.

"I like listening to your animated stories about ancient heroes, but I think I like it even more when you talk about our family, Di," Clark whispered before wrapping an arm around her waist.

She gladly leaned into him, kissing him gently on the lips before returning downstairs, following the noises of two bickering boys. Clark and Diana exchanged a fond smile when they found their older sons in the living room, roughhousing a little. Conner had Jon in a head-lock, ruffling his dark curls, while Jon tried to free himself, wiggling and thrashing around.

"Boys," Clark kept his voice low. "It's late, tune it down a little before you wake your grandma. Or your baby brother. Because the last thing we need is him wailing, mh?"

Conner straightened up, dropping his little brother, who momentarily forgot he could fly and just landed on the ground with a loud thud. Jon was pouting by the time he got up to stand next to Conner, throwing a nasty glare at the older Kent boy. Well, 'boy'. He was twenty-eight, he had his own apartment in Metropolis and his own life with Cassie. Still, he came over regularly, especially in the mornings to help Clark, Diana and a very eager Jon with the farm-work.

"Hey, ma," Conner approached Diana to kiss her cheek.

"How did patrol go today, boys?" asked Clark, sitting down on the couch.

"Good. Damian and I are fine. We don't need a babysitter," Jon groaned a little.

"I wasn't there as your 'babysitter', Jon," Conner rolled his eyes. "It was a team-up, okay?"

Well, it was a bit of both. Because when Conner had been fifteen, he'd still been training under Clark's guidance and not been going out on his own. But Jon? He'd pushed to go out very early and Clark and Diana both knew there was no stopping him, so they tried to provide all the guidance, training and supervision they could. They were both grateful Conner always kept tabs on his little brother. Conner grinned and ruffled Jon's hair once more for good measure.

"Little S is doing the family name proud though," admitted Conner after a beat.

It was adorable to see Jon puff his chest out at that. He was trying on 'Superboy' for size, knowing he had big shoes to fill, ever since Conner had taken his own path too. Being Superboy had been a guiding path for him, just like Wonder Girl had been for Donna. And just like Donna had become Troia, Conner had taken on the mantle of Flamebird, a name honoring his Kryptonian heritage and tying him to one of his closest friends, Dick Grayson. The first Robin, who now went by Nightwing. Nightwing and Flamebird, two great Kryptonian heroes. Stories that Kara had relayed to Clark and Clark, in return, had relayed to Conner and Dick.

"Well done, son," Clark's proud smile went from ear to ear as he wrapped an arm around Jon. "But it is way past your bedtime, so go upstairs and get ready for bed. In bed in five, you hear me?"

Jon looked ready to argue, but he was wise enough not to. Instead, he quickly kissed Diana's cheek before rushing upstairs and getting ready for bed.

"Thanks for keeping an eye on him, son," Clark looked at Conner proudly. "You know we're proud of you too, right? Are you going to fly back home today, or staying?"

"Wouldn't mind crashing here. It was pretty exhausting," Conner cracked his back. "Long meeting with YJ before watching out for Jon and Damian. That kid's a demon."

"He is Bruce's son," Clark huffed beneath his breath. "Never expected any less."

"He was raised by the League of Assassins," added Diana pointedly. "I think that factors in more."

"Mh..." Clark frowned playfully before cracking a smile. "Maybe a bit of both."

"It's getting late and we have an early Justice League meeting tomorrow, so we're turning in for the night. Good night, Kon," Diana smoothed his hair down and placed a kiss on the top of his head.

Conner stretched again before throwing himself onto the couch. "Night ma, pa."

Conner's old bedroom had long since been converted into the nursery for Chris. With Martha, Clark, Diana, Jon and the twins, the house had already been quite full – Lyta and Lara had already taken Donna's old bedroom and Conner's had served as an all-purpose guest-room, until Chris came.

"So, what's your verdict, Di?" Clark asked while they got ready for bed. "About Wonder Girl?"

"Oh, I don't know," Diana smiled cryptically. "I meant it, I can see it in both and neither. I just want them to be happy, whether that is with a legacy or with their own path."

Though she did have a hunch that Lyta would follow Donna's steps to carry on the name. One day.

~*~ The End ~*~

Author's note: When I wrote my first Wonder Woman fic, I kept it deliberately vague because I wasn't yet overly familiar with her specific lore. After reading a bunch, I've cherry-picked what canons I like and I genuinely can't believe that THIS version, the one where Hippolyta and Philippus raised Diana together, DOESN'T have Diana and Nubia as twin sisters when it would make so much sense and be so sweet. So, that had to be a thing. I'm also very, very pleased that I have finally figured out names for all four of the SuperWonder kids (always knew I wanted there to be four of them because of Kingdom Come's 10 Years Later picture)!
