'Could it be your eyes

Didn't know that I've been

Waitin', waitin' for you…'

"You want me to leave Esme… for you?" He asks. And he tries to mask the hope that surrounds his words.

Tilting her head to the side, she folds her arms across her chest. "I want you to leave Esme because you know deep down that she's not a good person. That she hurts people with no remorse; people that you call your friends. I want you to leave her because it's the right thing to do, Spencer."

And there is a part of him that feels a bit deflated because never once did she put the possibility of herself being a part of that equation. "Trina…" He hesitates trying to find the right words.

"Don't you dare stand there and defend her to me. What she did to Cam and Joss is inexcusable!"

"Well, to hear her tell it, it was you that did it." He replied.

"And you believe her?" She asks indignantly and she can't help the pang that hits her heart at the very idea that he would think that of her.

"No! I know you would never do something like that." He is quick to make her understand that those were neither his thoughts nor his words. "You would never film someone in such an intimate moment or be so cruel as to post something so private all over the internet." Looking over at her from his seat he wants to make sure that she knows how sincere he is.

"But deep down you know that Esme would." She hesitates if only for a moment before placing her hand over his. "Spencer, I don't understand how you can know what she's done and still not walk away from her."

Ever so slowly he intertwines his fingers with hers as he keeps his eyes on their joined hands. "How can you know the things I've done… and still stand by me?" His voice is soft, almost fragile.

'When your by my side, everything's alright

Crazy, I'm crazy for you'

She is caught off guard by his question and it is evident on her face. Her eyes go from their hands to his face and she tries desperately to ignore the way her heart lurches in her chest because the answer to his question is so crystal clear. The silence causes him to look up and meet her stare straight on. The vulnerability that she sees inside his dark brown eyes has her wanting nothing more than to be honest with him. To tell him the truth. She opens her mouth to speak, to relay the real reason why she hasn't walked away from him and whatever this unspeakable bond that existed between them was.

"Because I…" She begins.

"Hey Spence!" Esme calls out coming through the door. Her long brown tresses are pulled into a high ponytail that swings from side to side as she approaches. Looking down at them her eyes go straight to their intertwined hands and as if caught they pull apart immediately as Spencer takes a stand to greet her.

"Esme… what are you doing here?"

Her stare goes from her boyfriend to Trina and then back to him. Hands clasped in front of her holding her purse she smiles. "I thought that I would come and check on you. Thought it would be a nice surprise since you're being released soon." She remarked. "I see I wasn't the only one who had that idea huh?" Her eyes are quick to dart back to Trina. She cocks her head to the side and her smile widens but it lacks warmth. "Am I right?"

"Esme…" Spencer begins when Trina cuts him off.

"Actually I came to tell Spencer good-bye." And there is no disguising the shock on his face as his head whips around to look at her.

"Trina…"

"Good-bye; are you leaving town; perhaps going on an extended vacation?" Esme asks sarcastically.

"Not quite. I just… with this whole thing with Joss and Cam I'm making it a point to put all my focus on them and my energy into finding out who is really responsible for hurting my friends." She holds Esme stare and the tension that builds is almost unbearable.

"Are you still denying that you're the culprit?" Esme taunts folding her arms across her chest defensively.

"Damn straight!"

"You are unbelievable! The only people at the cabin were the three of you… so if it wasn't you then what; Joss and Cam taped themselves?"

"Esme!" Spencer admonishes. "Take that back! You know damn well…" He begins but Trina is quick with her retort.

"Or there's a third option… They were set up… by some conniving, insecure, manipulative, two-faced bitch!" She shoots back. Placing her index finger to her chin as if in thought she continues. "Hmmm do we know anyone that fits that description?"

"How dare you…"

"Oh you better believe I do more than dare, sweetheart!" Coming around the table that divided them she stepped into Esme's personal space. "I'm going to prove what you did to Joss and Cam, that's a promise!"

"Are you… are you threatening me?" She asked indignantly.

"I don't make threats Esme, you should remember that!" She holds the girl's stare for a few seconds making it perfectly clear she wasn't messing around.

With a deep sigh she turns back to Spencer and there is nothing short of sincere sadness and regret in her eyes.

'And here I go down that road

Again and again the fool rushin' in

But I can't help when I feel some kind of way

Do you feel the same?'

"You were right… I can't… I can't stand by you anymore… One of us has to draw a line… You've made your choice… and even though I don't agree with you… even though I think you're making a huge mistake… I will respect it." She blinks desperately trying to keep her tears at bay. "I just… I hope that it doesn't cost you everything." Reaching over she picks up the book from the table. Running her fingers across the stenciled lettering she tries to smile even as she forces him to take it back. "Bye Spencer." And before she can second guess herself she turns and walks out even as she hears him calling after her.

'Cause I fall, I fall for you

You caught me at my weakest…'
