Kindness Shining From Deep Inside You
"Well, here we are," said the taxi driver.
"Thank you," Jamie said to him, getting out and grabbing his two suitcases and his backpack. "How much is the fare?"
"No worries. Your sister paid in advance," the driver said. "Take care, kid."
"Thanks. You too," the boy said before walking down the walk as the driver headed off. Going to the door, the boy knocked and a moment later, a young woman with blonde hair and blue eyes opened the door.
"Jamie," she said with a smile, hugging the boy, who was her cousin, but she saw him as a brother. "How was your trip?"
"It was good, Rachel," Jamie said with a smile, glad to see his cousin/big sister again.
Rachel smiled. "Well, let's get you up to your room," she said. "I'm sure you want to unwind after that trip."
Nodding, the boy followed her as she helped him carry his stuff to the room he'd be staying in while living with her. Rachel even helped him unpack his clothes and video games, pausing as she took note of the Wooden Sword she had given Jamie for his seventh birthday. "I remember this," she said.
"Yeah," he said. "It's one of my most treasured possessions, along with my headphones."
She chuckled. "Oh, before I forget, I enrolled you in Miss Toriel's school for humans and monsters," she said. "It's a good school."
Jamie became nervous. "Um, are you sure that's a good idea?" He asked. "What if I accidentally say something to offend the monsters?"
Rachel smiled. "Jamie, you have way too much kindness to do that," she said reassuringly. "And even if you did, they'd forgive you."
The boy's stuff was soon unpacked and the young woman went to go make dinner and allow her younger brother to relax after his journey. As Jamie was sitting by the window in his room, he heard laughter and looked out the window to see three kids that were around his age outside.
One was a human girl with brown hair wearing a blue-and-purple striped shirt and blue shorts, another was a young male goat with white fur wearing a green-and-yellow striped shirt and black jeans, and the third was an orange reptile monster with a yellow-and-brown striped shirt and brown pants. They were laughing at something when the goat monster glanced up and saw Jamie in the window. The other two looked up as well.
Jamie flinched as they spotted him, but to his surprise, the kids smiles and the goat and human waved to him. The boy gave them a nervous smile and a small, but genuine wave back.
A knock at his door made him turn to see Rachel was there. "Jamie, dinner's ready," she said.
"Okay," he said, giving the kids one last wave before heading downstairs with her.
"Who was that you were waving to?" Rachel asked.
"Three kids outside," the boy said, describing them.
"Oh, I know them," she said once she heard their descriptions. "Their families are close friends of mine. You'll probably see those kids at school tomorrow."
The boy nodded, a bit nervous for the next day.
The next morning, Rachel gave him a map and directions on how to get to the school. "I'm sorry I can't take you there myself this morning," she apologized profusely. "But I have to go help get Grillby's pub ready to open for the day."
"It's okay, cous," Jamie said. "I'll be okay."
She nodded. "Okay. I should be finished my shift before school gets out, so I'll come pick you up after school," she said, hugging him after they exited the house and she locked the door. "Have a good day at school, bro."
"I will," he said. "You have a good day at work."
They both parted ways and Jamie was on his way to school when suddenly, some rude kids that were a bit older than Jamie came out. "Hey, look, boys," said one of them. "Some fresh meat."
"You're new here, aren't you, newbie?" Sneered another boy.
"Bet you're as weak as you look," said a third.
"Yeah," said the first. "Bet you'd lose in a fight."
Jamie realized they were looking for a fight and he shook his head. "I don't want to fight," he said. "Because fighting is wrong and doesn't solve anything."
With that, he put on his headphones and walked away, only to feel himself get pushed to the ground a moment later by the leader as they all laughed.
"Wimp," the boys sneered and ran off laughing.
Slightly bruised and hurt, Jamie got back up, holding back tears as he continued on to school. When he arrived, he saw a lot of kids, both human and monster, running around. Not really wanting to meet any of them at the moment, the boy headed over to the garden that was nearby where everyone was hanging out, but it provided enough cover to keep him from being spotted as he wandered around, looking at the flowers and trimmed hedges in various topiaries. He was so amazed by it that he wasn't paying attention and he bumped into someone suddenly, falling down on his behind while the person he bumped into dropped some garden supplies.
"Oh, golly! Are you alright, Little One?" The boy heard a male voice ask.
Jamie looked up to see a very large male goat monster with large horns, a long beard, and long, blonde hair wearing a pink shirt with white flowers and blue pants. The boy was stock still, both in surprise and a small bit of fear, but the monster surprised him by reaching out and placing his large hands around the boy's waist and with the upmost gentleness, the monster lifted the boy off the ground and gently set him back on his feet. "I don't believe I've seen you around here before," he said, his voice kind and gentle. "Are you a new student?"
Coming out of his shock, the boy nodded. "Yes, I am, sir," he said. "My name is Jamie. And sorry for bumping into you."
"No worries, Jamie," the monster said. "My name is Asgore Dreemurr, the gardener for the school."
Jamie blinked in amazement. "Did you plant and grow all these flowers and trim all these hedges into these amazing topiaries?" He asked.
"I did," Asgore said with a smile. "I tend to the school garden every morning."
"Wow," the boy said. "You did an amazing job."
The male goat monster laughed and ruffled the boy's hair. "Thank you," he said before noticing the slight bruise on the boy's face and he grew concerned. "Did you get hurt on your way to school?" He asked gently.
Jamie grew nervous. "No, I just tripped," he said, though he didn't like lying about that.
Asgore didn't look convinced, but let the subject go for then as the school bell rung. "Ah, there's the bell," he said. "Go ahead, Jamie. You don't want to be late."
These words were spoken gently and Jamie waved to him. "I hope to see you again soon," the boy said.
"I hope to see you again soon too, Jamie," Asgore said with a smile.
Jamie followed the other kids and was soon in his classroom, looking around as he wondered where he'd be seated. He noticed a goat lady in a purple dress and guessed her to be the Miss Toriel that Rachel had told him about the night before. A look at her desk where her nameplate was read "Miss Toriel Dreemurr", which confirmed his suspicions.
"Good morning, class," she said with a smile.
"Good morning, Miss Toriel," the class said.
She nodded. "We have a new student today," she said, gesturing to Jamie, who looked nervous, but went up to her, nodding. "Class, this is Jamie. He just moved here from another town, so I expect you all to be welcoming to him."
She then smiled at Jamie. "Go ahead and sit wherever you'd like, Jamie," she said kindly.
"Thank you, ma'am," he said politely. A quick glance around the room and he saw the three bullies from earlier in the back, so he decided to sit up front, where he saw the three kids he saw the day before outside his window. He sat at the desk that was next to small goat monster, who smiled and waved to him as did the other two. The goat monster passed him a piece of paper that was folded and curious, Jamie opened it.
"Welcome," it read in colorful letters and he smiled back at the goat boy gratefully. Toriel cleared her throat gently to get everyone's attention and the class began.
The day passed quickly and at the end of the day, Toriel dismissed the class. "Oh, Jamie," she said. "Could you come here before you go?"
"Yes, ma'am," he said, curious as to why she wanted to see him. He had been quiet throughout the day and had hardly raised his hand, but he had paid attention and had done his best on his lessons.
After all the other students had gone, Toriel looked at Jamie as he stood before her while she sat in her chair. "Jamie, where did you get that bruise from?" She asked gently.
"I tripped, ma'am," the boy said.
Toriel gave him a look very similar to the one Rachel would give Jamie when she knew he was hiding something. Biting his lip, the boy then took a deep breath. "The three boys who sit in the back of the class came up to him and wanted to fight, but I refused, so they pushed me down and called me a wimp," he said. "I told them fighting wouldn't solve anything though."
She nodded. "Those three have done things like that to the other students too," she said. "I'll have a talk with them about their behavior." She then smiled. "On a more positive note, I am very proud of your work in class today and glad to have you as a student in my school."
Jamie smiled, seeing Toriel was a strict, but kind teacher. "Thank you, ma'am," he said politely.
She smiled. "You may go now. I'll see you tomorrow, Jamie."
He nodded. "See you tomorrow, Miss Toriel," he said.
With that, he headed outside, looking over at Asgore's work in the garden when something hit him in the side. A bit startled, he looked to see it was a Frisbee and picked it up, glancing around.
"Hey!" A voice called out in a friendly manner and he looked to see the same three kids he had sat next to in school were in the field and waving to him.
"Can you throw it back over to us, please?" The goat boy asked.
Smiling, Jamie threw the Frisbee back over to them and the reptile kid caught it in his mouth. The kids then looked at each other and waved the boy over. He nervously walked over to them and they smiled. "You got a good throw," the girl said with a smile.
"You're the new kid, right?" The reptile monster said.
"Yeah, I am," the boy said. "I'm Jamie."
"I'm Asriel," the goat boy said.
"I'm Frisk, Asriel's sister," the girl said.
"And I'm Monster Kid, or just Kidd," the reptile monster said.
"What to play with us?" Frisk asked with a smile.
Jamie hesitated for a bit before taking a deep breath. "Yes," he said.
He didn't regret his decision. The four of them had a blast together hanging out until they took a break. Frisk wiped at her forehead. "Oh, man. We should have brought extra drinks with us," she said. "It's so hot today."
"And we drank all our juice at lunch," Asriel said.
Jamie remembered something and reached into his bag, pulling out an extra bottle of orange juice that he carried with him. "I've got some orange juice, if you guys want some," he said.
Kidd grinned. "Dude, you're awesome!" He said.
"Thank you, Jamie," Frisk said as the boy filled their water bottles half full each. She then noticed the bruise on the boy's face. "Hey, Jamie. What happened that you got that bruise?" She asked in worry.
"Oh, I was just a bit clumsy on my way to school," the boy said.
"Are you sure?" Asriel asked. "And are you okay?"
"Yes, I'm okay," Jamie reassured them, though it was a lie.
The three felt that their friend wasn't telling them the whole truth, but let the matter go before Kidd suggested they play more Frisbee. "Here comes my Super Mega Throw!" He said, spinning in place five times before letting the Frisbee fly.
But it flew too high and got stuck in a tall tree. "Oh, no," Frisk said.
"How are we going to get it down?" Asriel asked.
"I'll get it," Jamie said. "I'm a good climber."
His three friends looked at each other. "Okay," Kidd said.
"But please be careful," Asriel said.
"I will," Jamie promised.
The boy carefully climbed up the tree, successfully grabbing the Frisbee and tossing it down to his friends, who cheered happily. But before Jamie could climb back down, a soccer ball came out of nowhere and hit him square in the chest, knocking him out of the tree. He landed on his back with his left arm trapped under himself. "AAAAAAHHHHHHH!" He cried out in pain.
"Jamie!" Frisk cried out as she, Asriel, and Kidd ran up to help him.
Laughter reached them and they saw the bullies from school sneering at them. "That's what a monster loving freak like you deserves for tattling on us to Toriel," the leader said, glaring at them.
Asriel and Kidd stood in front of Jamie protectively. "You guys hurt him earlier," Asriel said.
"You gave him that bruise on his face," Kidd said.
"So what if we did?" The leader sneered.
The two monsters were about to approach the bullies, but a voice stopped them. "Guys, stop," the voice said softly.
They turned to find Jamie looking at them while Frisk helped him up. Though tears were running down his face, the boy stood strong and looked at them. "Fighting isn't right. It doesn't solve anything. No matter what someone has done, hurting them back isn't the answer."
The two monsters and Frisk were surprised and even more surprised when they saw a green heart come out of Jamie's chest, but it quickly vanished. Frisk then looked at her brother and friend and nodded. "He's right," she said. "Come on, guys. Don't fight them."
Asriel and Kidd nodded before the goat boy looked at them. "Jamie's right," he said. "You guys aren't worth it."
With that, they walked away while the bullies looked mad for a moment before walking away and laughing at Jamie, but the four paid them no mind.
Kidd looked worried. "I know I'm still learning about humans and don't have arms myself, but that looks really painful," he said, indicating to Jamie's arm, which was bruised and the boy was wincing as he tried to move it.
"We should get you help, Jamie," Asriel said.
"But all the teachers have left the school," Kidd reminded in worry.
"Mom's still here," the goat boy said. "She can help."
"But Mom's in a meeting with the other teachers from the other schools," Frisk replied. "She won't be out for a bit."
Her face then lit up as she knew who could help. "Let's get him to Dad. He can help and his house isn't far."
"Good idea, Frisk," Kidd said.
Asriel nodded. "Okay," he agreed.
The three formed a barrier around Jamie, keeping him safe as they led him down the road to where the siblings' father lived. "By the way, Jamie, did you really mean it about how fighting people is wrong?" Frisk asked.
"Yes," Jamie replied. "Violence isn't the answer to anything. Humans and monsters alike should talk things out calmly instead of trying to prove who's right by hurting each other."
The girl smiled. "I think the same way, as do Asriel and Kidd," she said before looking at her brother and friend. "But they sometimes get a bit carried away when their friends get hurt."
"Hey!" Asriel and Kidd cried out, but smiled, knowing Frisk was only teasing them.
Jamie looked at them. "You guys really consider me a friend?" He asked in surprise.
Asriel put a friendly arm around Jamie. "Of course we do," he said. "We may not have known you long, but we can tell you're a good person with a heart filled with Kindness."
The siblings and Kidd all shared knowing looks at that while Jamie just managed to hold back tears at their kind words, telling himself not to cry over someone besides his cousin/big sister seeing him as a good person.
They soon made it to a modest, yet nice-looking house. "Frisk, Kidd, can you guys help Jamie into the living room? I'm going to go get Dad," Asriel said.
"Sure thing, Bro," Frisk said.
"You got it," Kidd said.
Jamie was grateful that they helped him and Frisk smiled. "I wish Chara was here, but she's away at boarding school on a scholarship," she said. "She would have liked you and no doubt gone after the bullies."
"Protective sister?" Jamie asked.
"Big time," Kidd said, with a smile.
Suddenly, Jamie heard a familiar voice. "Who's this friend that needs help, son?"
The boy looked up to see Asriel walk in with Asgore behind him. "Mr. Dreemurr?" Jamie asked in surprise.
Asgore looked up in surprise at the familiar voice. "Jamie?!" He asked in shock before seeing the boy was cradling his left arm. The male goat monster at once rushed over. "What happened?" He asked.
"You've met Jamie, Dad?" Frisk asked in surprise.
"Yes," he said. "We met at school this morning. Jamie came into the garden while I was tending to it."
He then turned back to the boy. "What happened?" He asked again.
Jamie took a deep breath. "After school, the four of us were playing Frisbee when it got stuck in a tree. I climbed up to get it, but before I could get down, the bullies threw a soccer ball at me and made me fall out of the tree. They claimed that's what I deserved for telling on them," he said.
"We stopped the bullies from doing more damage, but Jamie fell on his arm when he fell out of the tree," Asriel said.
"I hope they get what they deserve," Kidd said.
"I'm sure they will," Asgore said before looking at Jamie. "Can you straighten your arm, Jamie?"
The boy tried, wincing as it hurt. "It hurts a lot," he admitted as he managed to straighten his arm.
Asgore nodded. "Looks like you only sprained your arm when you fell on it," he said, grabbing a sling and carefully placing it on Jamie so that his left arm could rest. "Alright, keep your arm in that for an hour or two and it should recover. In the meantime, is there anyone I can call to let them know where you are?"
Jamie nodded. "My cousin, Rachel, works at Grillby's," he said.
The kids and Asgore looked at Jamie in surprise, not knowing that he was the girl's cousin. "That explains why you were in her house yesterday," Kidd said.
"Rachel's your cousin?!" Frisk asked in amazement. "That's so awesome!"
"Totally," Asriel said with a smile.
Asgore chuckled. "Kids, will you call Grillby to let Rachel know where Jamie is?" He asked.
The three went to do so and the large male goat turned back to the boy. "Jamie," he said, his voice gentle. "Are the bullies the reason for that bruise on your face from this morning?"
The boy hesitated and the goat monster noticed. "Jamie, please tell me the truth," he said, his voice firm, but still gentle.
Jamie looked at him. "Yes," he said. "They tried to get me to fight them, but I didn't want to. It's wrong to hurt people."
No sooner did he say that, Asgore saw the same bright green heart that the children saw earlier appear in front of Jamie before it quickly vanished and his eyes widened in surprise before he sat next to the boy on the couch and gently lifted him up into his lap.
"It's good you see things that way because you are absolutely correct that it's wrong to hurt people and that fighting isn't the answer to everything," he said, seeing the boy look up at him and he smiled. "You also have a lot of Kindness in your heart and those traits make you a good person."
Hearing that Asgore thought that highly of him along with his friends standing up for him with everything that happened that day, Jamie couldn't hold back his tears anymore and the dam broke, beginning to cry.
This worried the goat monster. "Jamie, what's wrong?" He asked, gently wiping away the boy's tears with his furry hands.
The boy sniffled. "No one but Rachel has ever said something like that to me before," he admitted.
Asgore was shocked, but wrapped the boy into a hug, gently rocking the boy and shushing him calmly. The gestures helped the boy calm down. Just as he fully calmed down, the three kids came back. "Hey, Dad," Asriel said. "We just got off the phone with Rachel."
"Boy, was she mad when we told her what happened," Kidd said, shuddering a little.
"She asked if you could bring Jamie to Grillby's, Dad," Frisk said.
Asgore nodded. "Yes," he said. "Come, I'll give you all a lift in my car."
Thankfully, Grillby's restaurant wasn't far and it was a quiet time with no customers until the dinner rush would happen a couple hours later. Asgore entered with Jamie beside him, along with Frisk, Asriel, and Kidd.
Rachel looked up from her work of getting new place settings ready when she heard the bell on the door and saw them. "Jamie," she said, catching the attention of three skeleton monsters and a monster made of fire as she ran over to the boy and pulled him into a hug, being mindful of his arm. "Are you okay?"
He nodded. "I'm okay, Rach," he said, hugging her back with his good arm.
Toriel, who was visiting the restaurant to talk with the skeletons, came over and looked a bit upset. "Those bullies will get another talking to and a proper punishment for this," she said firmly.
Rachel looked a bit upset too. "I was hoping you wouldn't have to deal with bullies, bro," she said to Jamie. "Next time I hear someone bullying you, believe me, they won't know what hit them when I find them."
The firm tone her voice took showed the others how protective she was and one of the skeletons chuckled. "Easy, Rach," he said. "I know you were born with red hair, but no need to get all fired up."
"Sans!" Another skeleton scolded.
Rachel paused a moment, trying not to smile, but failed as a grin appeared on her face. "I was seeing red, but now I'm cool as blue," she said.
The third skeleton chuckled. "Not bad," he said as the second skeleton groaned, but Jamie could see he was smiling.
Just then, two other monsters came out from the arcade that was in the back. "Woo-hoo!" A fish monster with red hair cheered.
The fire monster sighed and looked at Alphys, who looked a bit nervous, but gave him a reassuring look. "D-Don't w-worry, Grillby," she said. "T-The m-machines are st-still in one p-piece."
"Thank you," the fire monster said.
Jamie cocked his head to the side curiously. He guessed the fire monster had to be Grillby, but he didn't know who the others were.
Seeing his curiosity, the young woman smiled at her cousin. "Come on, bro," she said. "Let me introduce you to them."
She led the boy up to the table where the skeletons were. "Guys, this is my cousin, Jamie," she said before gesturing to each skeleton. "Jamie, these three are Sans and his brothers, Papyrus and Gaster."
"Greetings, young Jamie," Gaster said with a smile. "Rachel has told us all about the young boy she considers to be her brother."
Jamie looked a bit bashful at that. "Oh, yes," Papyrus said, beaming as he hugged the boy, surprising him. "We've been looking forward to meeting you."
"Sup, kid?" Sans asked with a smile.
Rachel smiled before seeing the other three monsters come up to them. "This is Undyne and Alphys, and last but not least, my boss Grillby," she said.
Undyne grinned. "So you're the punk that this punk girl won't quit talking about, huh?" She asked, her yellow eye gleaming.
"Undyne!" Alphys said in horror before looking at Jamie, looking worried. "S-Sorry, she m-means th-that in a n-nice way."
Jamie looked up at Rachel, who smiled. "Don't worry, Undyne's a tough warrior, but she's got a good heart," she said before looking at the fish woman. "Yup, this is my cousin/little brother that I'll protect from bullies and will boast about to my friends."
The boy smiled before jumping a little as Undyne caught Rachel in a headlock and gave her a noogie, making the young woman laugh and playfully try to fend her off. A warm hand rested on Jamie's right shoulder and he saw it was Grillby, who smiled at him warmly.
"Welcome, Jamie," he said. "It's nice to finally meet you. Rachel has spoken highly of you and told us you were coming to stay with her."
The boy nodded. "It's nice to meet you guys too," he said before seeing Undyne had Rachel in a wrestler hold and the blonde-haired woman was trying to escape. "Um...," he began, looking worried.
Sans chuckled. "Don't worry, kid," he said, ruffling Jamie's hair. "Just watch."
As Jamie watched, he noticed skeleton hands glowing with purple magic go over to Undyne and poke her in the underarms, making her yelp in surprise and loosen her hold on Rachel, who used that to her advantage and spun around, pulling the fish woman to the ground and locking her legs around the monster's legs, pinning her down.
Rachel smirked and Undyne looked up at her. "No fair getting outside help," she said without heat as a smile crossed her face.
The girl shrugged. "I didn't know Gaster was going to do that," she said, smiling before letting Undyne up. The fish woman sent a playful glare at Gaster, who smiled innocently.
Alphys giggled as she had recorded the moment and Undyne swooped the dinosaur up in a hug. "If I see that posted on social media, you are in for the biggest tickle torture ever, Alph," the fish woman said half-serious, half-joking. "I'll even get Mettaton to help me."
Rachel chuckled at this, to which Jamie smiled before looking curious. "Who's Mettaton?" He asked.
"He's a robot celebrity who's famous for his songs, movies, and television shows," Grillby said.
"He can be a bit dramatic, but he's alright," Sans said.
"Sans, Mettaton is amazing!" Papyrus said. "You can't say you didn't like some of his movies."
"They were alright," the short skeleton said. "A bit dramatic, but not bad."
Rachel chuckled. "Mettaton's got a flair for drama, but he's actually decent for a celebrity," she said. "In fact, he was created by Alphys. She's a wizard with electronics and science."
Alphys blushed at that as Jamie lit up. "Really?" He asked. "That's really cool."
The monsters smiled at that before Grillby cleared his throat, seeing the four children look at him. "How about I get you kids some food?" He asked. "On the house."
Jamie saw his friends' faces light up and he smiled. "Yes, please," he said. "And thank you."
"You're awesome, Uncle Grillby!" Frisk said happily, hugging the fire monster, who chuckled and ruffled her hair playfully.
The kids all took seats at a nearby table and Jamie noticed his arm wasn't hurting as much, so he went over to the male goat monster. "Hey, Asgore, is it okay if I take the sling off?" He asked. "My arm feels a lot better now."
"You sure, bro?" Rachel asked, looking a bit worried.
"I'm sure."
Asgore looked thoughtful. "Let's see how you do without the sling," he said, carefully removing it.
Jamie moved his arm and smiled. "It still hurts a little, but not like before," he said.
"Alright then," Asgore said with a nod. "Just remember to take it easy."
"And be careful when moving your arm," Rachel said gently. "If it starts hurting more, let us know, okay?"
"Okay, I will," the boy promised, going back to sit with his friends just as Grillby brought their food out.
Rachel finished setting all the tables and Sans motioned her to come sit with them, having ordered her a soda while Papyrus went into the arcade with Undyne and Alphys. "Thanks, Sans," she said, joining them.
"No problem, Rach," he said with a smile.
Gaster smiled as he saw the children getting along well. "Jamie has the same open-mindedness that you do, Rachel," he said. "He didn't even flinch when you introduced us."
"Jamie doesn't judge others by appearance," the young woman said. "Though he may appear nervous, it's only because he's a bit shy."
"Shy?" Asgore asked in surprise.
Rachel looked sad and nodded. "Yeah," she said, biting her lip. "Sometimes I wonder if it's because my uncle isn't always around and Jamie's been picked on for that and other things."
The monsters looked at her. "Jamie's father isn't around?" Gaster asked in surprise.
"He's always busy with work, so he doesn't really spend time with Jamie," the girl said. "Jamie actually called me to tell me that his father was going to go overseas to work, but wasn't going to take Jamie with him. That's when Jamie called me and told them the situation and I told my uncle I would look after Jamie."
Asgore didn't look too happy at that, but took a deep breath. "Why does Jamie's father feel work is more important than him?" He asked.
Rachel shrugged. "Don't know," she said. "But Jamie's here now and I'm going to do my best to help him and be there for him."
"You both seem really close," Gaster said thoughtfully.
She smiled. "Jamie is like the little brother I never had," she said. "He's the best cousin/little brother I could ask for."
"He certainly seems kind," Sans said.
"That reminds me," Asgore said. "When I was helping Jamie and we were speaking about the earlier incident, he said he felt fighting was wrong and when he said that, I noticed a bright green heart appear from him, but it vanished quickly."
The two skeletons looked up in surprise. "A green heart?" Gaster asked.
The goat monster nodded. "Yes," he said. "I think he's the new soul of kindness."
"It could be possible he is," the scientist skeleton said thoughtfully.
Rachel, having learned about soul traits from Grillby and Sans, nodded. "Jamie does have the traits for it," she said.
"There's only one way to know for sure," Sans said, his right eye going dark and his left eye lighting up blue and yellow. He looked towards Jamie, seeing his stats come up a moment later.
Name: Jamie
LV: 1
HP: 25
AT: 5
DF: 15
EXP: 0
LOVE: 0
Is filled with kindness. Lonely until he moved to the urban city near Mt. Ebbot. Had never met monsters before, but knew about them thanks to his cousin/older sister, Rachel. Had no idea moving to a new city would give him a new family and friends, but is happy to have good friends.
A bright green heart became visible and Sans nodded. "Yup, he's the new Green Soul, alright," he said.
Rachel chuckled. "I'm not surprised," she said as they watched the kids for a bit longer as the young ones made plans to hang out over the weekend.
Gaster happened to look at the clock and smiled. "Rachel, I think your shift ended," he said.
She glanced at the clock and nodded. "Thanks, Gaster," she said with a smile before going up to Grillby, who smiled and wished her a goodnight and that he'd see her in the morning. She bid him the same before she and Asgore went over to the table where the young ones were.
"Come, children," Asgore said gently.
"Time to go home," Rachel said, her voice also gentle.
Kidd's parents came to pick him up and he bid his friends farewell before heading out. Frisk and Asriel went with Toriel while Asgore went to his car. Before he got in, Jamie ran up to the large goat monster and glomped him, almost knocking him down.
Asgore, though surprised, wrapped his arms around the boy as the boy buried his face into Asgore's chest. "Thank you, Asgore," he said. "For everything."
The male goat gently nuzzled the top of the boy's head. "You're welcome, Jamie," he said. "Don't forget what I told you."
"I won't," the boy said as Asgore scooped him up, hugging the boy a bit longer before gently setting him back down on his feet.
"Oh, and one more thing," the goat monster said, smiling. "Always keep kindness in your heart, Jamie."
The boy nodded and Asgore got into his car to head for home while Rachel grabbed her things. Jamie then turned and smiled at Grillby. "Thank you again, Grillby," he said.
"You're welcome, Jamie," the fire monster said warmly. "Come visit anytime you'd like."
Jamie nodded and waved goodbye to everyone else before heading out with Rachel to her car. She smiled at him. "So, what do you think?" She asked.
"I think I'm gonna like living here," the boy said as a green heart appeared from his chest.
The young woman smiled. "I'm glad to hear that," she said as a yellow heart appeared from her chest, indicating she was the Yellow Soul of Justice.
As they got in and Rachel began driving them home, a white dog appeared and watched them drive off, letting out a curious bark when he saw the two souls. Growing even more curious, the dog made up its mind and then headed off, panting happily.
Fun fact: My OC Rachel was born with red hair that turned blonde when she was little, which is why Sans made that joke. :)
