Victor, Sierra, Oscar, November, and Echo slowly walked towards her to follow the others dressed like themselves.
The woman smiled kingly at them, "Good morning, Victor. Sierra, Oscar. Hi November, your clothes are in the changing room. How are you Echo?"
"Fine, thank you." Echo said, trying to hide her nervousness and stay with the others.
She caught up with the others as the woman continued on her way to continue her morning greetings to the others. Victor looked at her questioningly.
"That's not my name." Echo told him.
"Not names, codes." Victor explained, "Military."
"Who uses those besides… are we government prisoners?" Echo questioned.
He never answered her and they continued to follow the others. A staff member opened a door and revealed a beautiful and luxurious open area that looked similar to a Spa. Some people were doing yoga at the center of the room, lead by a staff member.
"Whoa…" Oscar said, looking around in shock, starting to question if they really were prisoners.
It sure didn't look like it.
Echo looked around in confusion, "Everyone does look peaceful."
"M-maybe something bad happened to us. And they're helping us heal." November offered.
"That makes sense." Oscar agreed.
A staff member stopped when she noticed them and spoke to them with a smile, "Good morning. We're having banana pancakes for breakfast today."
The girl they had heard earlier being called Tango walked by them without even looking at them, "I like pancakes."
Victor stared blankly for a few moments before nodding to himself, "We're all going to die."
Echo and Oscar sat down alone for lunch together. Tango almost sat down with them, but ended up sitting next to some other people.
A male staff member wandered over to them, "Echo, is there something wrong with your hand?"
"No, it's fine." Echo said with a small shake of denial before giving him a small smile.
"I don't think so. May I see it?" The man continued.
Echo showed him her hand and he closely examined it.
"I'm going to need to take you to see Dr. Saunders now." He said to her calmly before gently helping her out of her seat.
Echo slowly stood up and glanced at Oscar.
"I like bananas. They're naturally sweet." Oscar told the man with a blank happy look.
Echo was shocked by how well he could act, he seemed to be very good at blending in with the others.
The man paused before smiling at Oscar, "Yes, they are. Echo will be back soon Oscar."
He then lead Echo away into a doctor's office before he walked away to go help others.
"Hello?" Echo questioned as she wandered inside.
Dr. Saunders closed the file she was looking at when she noticed her, "Echo? What's wrong?"
"Uh, they made eye come see you. About my hand." Echo explained.
"Oh no, what happened?" Dr. Saunders asked while rushing to her side.
"Oh my God! Did they do that to you here?" Echo said, unable to keep quiet once she saw the scars on the woman's face.
Dr. Saunders briefly looked away before giving her a strained smile, "Echo please, sit."
"No. I want to know." Echo argued, "What the hell happened?"
Dr. Saunders quickly led Echo to sit down, "Don't… They're watching."
Echo quickly glanced around before noticing a camera hidden in a corner of the room ceiling. She slowly looked away before turning to the woman.
"You work for them. Who are they? Where are we?" Echo questioned.
Dr. Saunders continued to work on her hand silently. Echo stared at her for a few moments before pleading for her to answer her.
"I'm not your friend in here, Echo. I'm sorry. I can't help you." Dr. Saunders whispered to her quietly.
She quickly bandaged her hand before sending her away. Echo, Victor, Sierra, November, and Oscar went about their day. They never even stopped to speak amongst themselves in fear of being discovered. Eventually, it was time to take a shower and they all changed out of their clothes and into bath robes.
Victor leaned in slightly to whisper to Echo, "I noticed that girl, Tango, being taken somewhere upstairs by what looked like security guards. Nothing I could do to help, just glad Oscar hadn't seen it happening or he might have tried to help her and gotten noticed."
"She might be okay. The doctor might be on our side." Echo said.
"She is?" November asked with a small smile on her face, relieved that someone might be on their side to help them.
"You told her?!" Victor whispered back in outrage, "She knows we're not like the others?"
"She warned me. About the cameras." Echo said while glancing up briefly to a camera in the corner of the hall they were in, "Keep walking."
The others followed her into a room full of showers. They were all surprised to see men and women taking showers together.
"Coed showers?" Sierra said in shock, "I don't believe it.
"But we have to do it." Echo said.
"So? No big deal?" November said with a small smile before going to take a shower.
Oscar shrugged before going to join her without a second glance at the others, "I agree with her. It's not a big deal, nothing to be shy about."
Victor took in a deep breathe before following the others into the shower area, "Okay. New York starting lineup 1986, first base: Keith Hernandez…"
He watched nervously as November and Oscar confidently stripped off their robes and handed them off to a staff member.
"Second base: Wally Backman. Shortstop: Rafael Santana." Victor continued to whisper to himself as he took off his robes.
"Keep your eyes where they are." Sierra whispered harshly to Victor as they both entered the showers naked.
Victor rubbed his face before continuing his chanting and going into the shower with the others, "Mookie Wilson: left field. Third base: Ray Knight. Catcher: Gary Carter. Center field: Lenny Dykstra."
They all finished bathing before leaving to the sauna so that they could make an escape plan away from the security cameras. A blond man was inside the Sauna so they couldn't speak about any plans until he left.
Oscar smiled before sitting next to him, "Hi. I'm Oscar."
The man smiled back blankly, "I'm Mike, you're very nice."
They waited a bit longer before the man, Mike, got up.
He turned to look down at the seated Oscar, "I'm going to swim in the pool now. I do 30 laps everyday, it helps me be my best."
"It's important to exercise." Oscar replied back with a blank smile.
Mike then left the room quietly and November closed the door behind him.
"You are scary good at acting." Echo said in barely concealed awe.
Oscar smirked, "Like these strangely blank people always say: I try to be my best."
