Eddie picked up the remote and turned the volume down low, being mindful of the man who'd fallen asleep with his head in her lap, just over 30 minutes ago.

She glanced down and assessed his features. The bags under his eyes were darker and the worry wrinkle on his forehead was more evident than usual. He would jerk every few minutes but would immediately be calmed by Eddie running a reassuring hand through his hair. The investigation was still ongoing so all they could really do now was just sit and wait.

She knows he hasn't been sleeping, especially since she's found him awake for the last four out of five nights. He would always give her a small sheepish grin when she would catch him, kind of like a child who was caught staying up past his bedtime.

"Sorry if I woke you up," he said.

"Don't apologize," she replied, taking a seat next to him on the couch. "And you didn't wake me up."

"You don't have to sit out here with me, Ed. I'm okay."

She placed a hand on his thigh and gave a gentle squeeze, "I want to. So, what are we watching?"

She would stay up and keep him company until finally convincing him to go back to bed with her. It would only work for awhile because she would eventually feel him get out of bed again.

This morning, the exhaustion had seemed to finally hit him. They had agreed to finish a movie that they'd started a few days prior. She would look up at him every few minutes and see his eyes fluttering. He would immediately stop when he felt her eyes on him and insist that he was okay.

A little while later, it took her by surprise as he took a pillow and placed it in her lap then laid down. It wasn't very often that he did that but when he did, she knew that he was truly tired. She reached down and ran her fingers down the side of his face, hoping to lull him off to sleep even more.

"I know what you're doing…" he suddenly said.

"Oh yeah?" she replied. "Is it working?"

He nodded slowly as his eyes closed, "Mhmm."

She smiled to herself, "Good."

His snores filled the room soon after. There wasn't much that she could do in this situation to help Jamie but if the only thing she could do for now was to provide him a place to rest his head for awhile, then she would do just that.
