I do not own any of these characters.
Enjoy!
Stan crossed his arms as he watched Wendy with eagle eyes. Wendy had decided to give another try connect with her son. He watched cautiously in case Wendy were to do anything compromising. Why? Stan couldn't find a valuable answer to that question. The thing was, ever since that dreaded day he came home and found that letter, he just couldn't find himself to ever trust Wendy again. She was just here to develop a relationship with her son, but her relationship with Stan was now just water under the bridge.
Stan looked into his phone and realized it was time for Sterling's nap. He walked over to the living room and picked his son up, much to Wendy's disappointment, as she was just starting to have fun watching her son play with the blocks that were scattered all over the floor.
After tucking his son in bed, Stan changed from his working attire to his traditional clothing, which consisted of dark jeans and a purple plaid shirt with a white tee shirt underneath. He walked down the hall and sat with Wendy in the living room.
Wendy took a deep breath before speaking up. "Can you please stop making this difficult for me?"
"Really, how so?" Stan asked innocently.
"Listen, Stan," Wendy began, feeling agitated. "I am trying my best, okay? I know you are still peeved for what I put you through for almost a year, but now I am back, alright? I have done everything you wished for me to do. I have spoken to a therapist, I have obtained a job, I am living with my friend and starting to become more healthy, both physically and mentally, and you are the only barrier between me and success!"
Stan laughed sarcastically. "You really think that is difficult," he barked with a glare. "Do you really understand how DIFFICULT it had been for me the entirety that you were gone! All the sleepless nights I have spent either worrying about Sterling's health, the thought of me failing as a father without you by my side, or the thought of never seeing you again! And to add the cherry on top, the nightmares I endured of Sterling being miserable without his mother...you put me through all of that by simply not being here. When you promised you would never leave my side."
Wendy felt tears brim in her eyes after hearing the confession from what she thought was her true love. She wanted to apologize, but she couldn't find the right words to express sympathy for what she put Stan through. She just only had one thing to say.
"Please, just...give me a chance."
"I don't know if I can," Stan said softly with a sad frown.
Wendy looked up. "You will never know if you can ever trust me unless you give me a chance. I promise, if I screw this up, I will endure the consequences. If you shun me out afterward, then so be it. I am not doing this for anything else besides the love from you and Sterling. I...I want to give this family thing a try...please."
Stan looked deep into Wendy's bright blue eyes and thought to himself 'is it really worth shunning her out? I mean, she is trying.'
After careful consideration, he sighed and spoke with a smile. "You got one shot...don't mess it up."
Wendy smiled. "Trust me, I won't. And you won't regret this."
"You better hope I don't."
"Are you serious, Stanley?!" Sharon shrieked as Stan dropped Sterling off at the Marshes' residence. "You are seriously taking her back, even after EVERYTHING she put you through?!"
"Mom, I am NOT in the mood for this discussion!" Stan barked out as headed towards the door, waving goodbye at his father, who sat on the couch. "And besides, I am not taking her back. I am simply giving her a chance to redeem herself.
"What if she leaves you again?" Sharon exclaimed, crossing her arms.
Stan took a deep breath to keep his frustration in check. He turned and frowned at his mother. "Mom, please...I have already talked to both Wendy's parents, and they have already informed me that she had been speaking to a therapist for the past few weeks. Right now, my son needs a mother."
"Alright, then why don't you come back over later tonight and meet my friend Mary and her daughter, Ruby."
"Isn't she a convicted felon?" Stan asked, narrowing his eyes. That question immediately shut his mother up. He put on a wicked smirk and said. "My mind is made up. Now if you will excuse me, I got to get to work." He said, before walking out the door and getting into his car.
It was Spring Break for Kyle Brofloxski. Law school was being a drag for him nowadays. He had been supporting his best friend ever since Wendy had given birth to Sterling. He would drop by, even when Wendy was gone, just to watch over his "nephew" while Stan was either cooking food, cleaning the house, or doing work from home. Stan wanted to repay Kyle for everything he had done for him and Sterling, but Kyle insisted that what he had done was just a friend being there for another friend...something they joked Eric Cartman would never do.
He pulled his new Subaru Impreza (it was used, of course) beside his friend's apartment and joined Stan inside.
"Hey, Stan!" He greeted with a smile as his friend welcomed him inside, but his smile faded as he saw Wendy sitting at the kitchen table with Sterling. "Oh...hey Wendy."
Wendy avoided looking Kyle in the eye, making it clear she found the situation quite awkward. "Hey, Kyle." The weirdness was so thick in the air, either one of these three adults could cut it with a knife.
Stan decided to bring his friend over to dinner as spring break was extremely short for law students. Stan had made succotash for dinner, and even brought some wine, which Kyle refused, as he would be driving back home, so Stan brought Sprite for his friend instead.
Sterling sat at his high chair between Kyle and Wendy. He giggled as Kyle began making faces at him. Even Wendy had to admit, she even chuckled as Kyle pretended to choke on something and sake around like an animated cartoon character.
Wendy looked over at her son's smiling face and sighed. Without thinking, she reached over to caressed Sterling's cheek, but a second later, instantly pulled her hand back as she noticed Kyle frowning at her.
"Sorry," she muttered.
Kyle shook his head. "No problem. You're trying to reconnect with him anyway."
With that, Stan entered with the tray full of the succotash. He filled a tiny bowl full of the succotash for his son. Stan kissed Sterling on the forehead as he laid the bowl in front of him. He then sat between Kyle and Wendy as they all filled their plates up. Kyle looked over at both of his old friends noticed the eery silence between them. He decided to spark up a conversation. "So...Stan, how's work?"
"Decent," Stan plainly answered.
Kyle didn't even think for just a moment before asking the other question he had in mind. "So are you guys getting back together?"
Both Stan and Wendy looked at Kyle as if he had grown 10 heads before they both looked over at one another. Kyle cursed silently as he instantly regretted bringing that topic up. But then Stan answered with a sigh. "Not anytime soon."
Kyle sighed in relief before he nodded his head. "It's okay, dude. I understand."
Even though that sentence was indirect, Wendy could feel her nerves being compromised by every word her ex-lover's friend was spewing from his mouth. Kyle did not notice the stern glare Wendy was giving him. The girl put her fork down and folded her hands. "What do you mean by that, Kyle?"
Stan mentally begged Wendy to not start a commotion, but then Kyle spoke up. "Well, I mean, you can't just disappear and expect Stan to forgive you pretty easily."
"I am trying, you jerk," Wendy barked, which caught Kyle by surprise. Stan had his hand over his mouth as he soon began to regret inviting Kyle over here. He looked over at the redhead man, who stood up and looked grumpy towards Wendy.
"I see my presence is futile and also quite the controversy," he spoke before walking towards the door. "As is yours." He muttered loud enough for Wendy to hear.
Wendy's head bowed down. She was ashamed to be seen by Stan at that moment. She was ashamed to have even returned at all. After having abandoned her own child and the responsibility that was bestowed upon her as a mother, she could not find a way to redeem herself...so why even try? Why try if everyone is going to give you shit for your past?
She ignored Stan's pleas for her to stay as she stood up from her seat and grabbed her purse before walking out the door. The tears streamed down her face as she began to think. Coming back was a waste of time. Why even bother? Good job, Wendy Testaburger, you have destroyed your relationship with the boy who loved you for so long, and you have stained every relationship you had in your life. Sterling deserves a better mother than you.
To be continued. I hope this got you guys hooked.
