Wendy stood upon a bridge, looking over at the rushing waters beneath, admiring its beauty. She wore a baggy blue sweatshirt and skinny jeans, along with yellow heels
She turned as she heard a squeaky child's voice call out to her. "Mommy!" She turned and felt her heart burst into joy as she noticed her son running across the bridge and towards her, Stan watching from a few feet from the scene, smiling wide.
Wendy knelt and had her arms wide open for her son to jumped into, but right when the mother and son were about to embrace, both Sterling and Stan vanquished into thin air, which caught Wendy off guard.
Then the entire landscape turned black as an echo began to run in Wendy's head. "I WILL NEVER FORGIVE YOU!"
Wendy awoke with a start as she lay on the bed in the room her friend Bebe offered her. She began to breathe easily as she began to realize it was all just a dream...or perhaps, a trailer for the event that may come, with Stan forgives her and they become a happy family, or she will live with the idea of her being an absolute failure of a mother.
Wendy laid her head back onto her pillow as she began to fight back the tears, mentally berating herself for everything she had done to practically ruined every relationship she had in her life.
"What do you mean you want to get back together with her?!" Sharon hollered as Stan returned back to his parents' home to pick his son up.
"She's trying, so there is no reason I have to reject her pleas. It's not like she is doing this for any other reason than to be back in the picture with Sterling and me."
Randy marched into the living room and stood next to his wife, crossing his arms. He sighed. "Stanley, you tend to be the most merciful man in this entire family, especially if we compare you to your ruthless sister." He chuckled but then continued. "Jokes aside, I believe you should move on from Wendy."
Stan shot his father with a stern glare. "Dad, I can't just move on from her that easily."
"Why not?" Sharon almost screamed. "She rejected the hints that you had a crush on her during grade school, she broke your heart many times during middle school and high school, dated you throughout college and got drunk, got pregnant and left you with her child...and you find there to be a possibility that she can redeem herself?"
Stan was quiet. He didn't want to give in to her mother's point. The fact is, he still loved Wendy, even after everything she put him through. The heartbreaks through school and the emotional hardship he went through for an entire year without her. But the truth was...he only chased after her because he knew she had a heart. That there was something in her that would shine through all of her past mistakes, and her being here was Stan's chance to see the real Wendy...the Wendy he viewed as a child and fell in love with.
Stan simply picked his son up from his mother's cradled arms and walked out the door, his tail somewhat between his legs, if you can feel the hint that he felt a bit ashamed for the difficult decision he was about to make, but he knew, as well as his family and all of his friends, that it was the best decision.
He was going to take Wendy back, step by step.
Wendy spoke with Dr. College as he scribbled in some notes of their session so far. She had confessed about the nightmares she was experiencing that could predict the result of her failing as a mother, and that being separating from her lover and her son forever.
The elderly man looked up at Wendy and smiled. "Ms. Testaburger, I see you have made some intense progress. Getting a job, a new car, building friendships...but those nightmares are still haunting you, right?"
Wendy was still silent as she gave him a gentle nod, trying to mask the shame that was fighting the blank expression on her face.
"What could be pushing you towards this degree?"
Wendy sighed. "Well, both of Stan's parents are still reluctant for having him forgive me and take me back, though I don't blame them...I did leave both their son, as well as my own."
"Is Stan thinking about forgiving you?"
Wendy shrugged. "He has been tolerating me a lot more over the past few weeks, but even one of his closest friends can't help by mention about how I 'fucking betrayed Stanley'," she spoke, mockingly using air quotes over those three words. "I just want to protest and say that I disagree with them, and prove them wrong, but..."
"Ms. Testaburger, excuse me for interrupting but you are implying that Stan is letting you back in, right?"
Wendy shrugged again, scratching the back of her head nervously. "I guess..."
Dr. College snorted a bit and spoke. "I personally advise you to focus on regaining his forgiveness, as well as strengthening your relationship with your son. Those should be your top priorities right now. What Mr. Marsh's friends and parents think should not be of your concern at the moment, because if Stan's parents could see that Stan has forgiven you, then they would come to terms to forgive you as well."
Wendy thought for a moment, taking in what the doctor himself to her. She put on a determined smile as she stood up. "Thank you."
Sterling giggled as his father had him in his arms. Stan sat at the living room couch after a long day at work and began throwing his son in the air and catching him with ease, something Sterling thoroughly enjoyed. This is what kept Stan sane throughout the entire duration Wendy was absent. He felt as if he was destined to be a father, regardless of whether his son was born out of wedlock. He felt like his entire life now revolved around Sterling, and everyone else on this entire planet felt less significant than Stan's son.
Just then, the doorknob turned. Stan help his son as he stood up and watched as Wendy entered with the groceries Stnan requested. He felt since Wendy is going to be a mother, she might as well provide like a mother. Wendy looked exhausted from the long 10-hour shift Nichole put her through as revenge on bailing out on her during a crucial board meeting with one of their clients. Wendy's hair was in a sloppy bun as she was still in her pink blouse and slacks that she wore to work. Stan couldn't help but smile. This may sound sadistic, but he found it satisfying to see Wendy understand the true hardship of being a parent...something she put Stan through for almost a year.
Wendy looked up at Stan and chuckled at his smug expression. "Wipe that smirk off your face, I just got used to this."
Stan laughed before setting his son down on the carpet near his toys so Sterling could play. He had the decency to help Wendy carry some of the groceries to the kitchen. After doing so, Wendy collapsed on the kitchen table. She was completely exhausted, and Stan still couldn't help but be entertained by the hardship she faced throughout the entire day.
As Stan was putting the groceries away one by one, a thought crossed his mind. He had a discussion with his father as he went to pick up Sterling after work.
"Stan, please, all I want is for you to be free. This girl has kept you in a prison of emotions almost the entire time you have known her. Am I wrong to say that she is too much of a sellout and a bitch for you to forgive her?"
Stan thought for a moment and figured that the answer was yes, his father was wrong. After everything, Wendy had put him through, he still loved her. Despite her leaving him and his son to fend for themselves, he still loved her. Despite how she thought he was weird and quickly was drawn to him through high school, the fact that she is destined to redeem herself was something Stan loved the most about her. It felt weird, but there was an odd connection between Wendy and Stan. Stan felt like Wendy belonged to him and that no matter what he would always love and cherish her, in a way that a family member would love another despite their differences.
Stan knew there was something he had to do.
"You know, I can turn the basement downstairs into your personal bedroom if you don't mind."
Wendy's head shot up as she glanced over at Stan. "Y-you-"
Stan smirked. "Yeah, I believe it could make being a mother easier for you if you lived under the same roof as your kid. Plus..." he paused for a moment as he opened the fridge to take out a beer. He then walked over and sat next to Wendy, looking deep into her eyes. He sighed as he spoke. "I don't want to live like this. I don't want to live my life resenting you."
Wendy bit her lip and spoke. "Sometimes, Stan. I don't think that I deserve another chance."
Stan smiled. "Well, regardless...I'm giving you one right now."
"What...what about your parents?"
Stan frowned and scoffed. "I am an adult...I can make my own decisions."
Wendy felt tears form in her eyes as she chuckled in disbelief. She couldn't believe that after everything she had done to Stan...he would still forgive her. Enough to allow her back into HIS house.
"I-I promise I won't let you down," Wendy choked out.
Stan smiled. "I have known you long enough to know that you won't."
Please review. See you next time.
