Discovering something
Asterix V star-ship, interstellar space, 3445 AD
"Doctor..." Yaz said seriously. But the Doctor was already walking away, the look on her face distracted as she noticed an irregularity and a door. She walked away from Yaz, her face pointed towards the door, it was locked. Yaz held her hands up in annoyance and rolled her eyes. She paused for a second wondering whether she should even bother following, but then something twinged in the back of her mind and she took a step forward. The Doctor's hand clutched around the small rectangular panel on the wall, it needed some sort of pass to get through. One quick sonic later and the space ship doors shuck shucked open. The Doctor's eyes squinted through the chasm, she hesitated. Nerves were wracking through her like the blood she couldn't stop from flowing. There was something croaking her throat, she'd been avoiding it for so long. Talking to Yaz was going to be hard, she never was any good at goodbyes and the thought that she could face saying goodbye after everything they'd been through recently. She didn't think of everything Yaz had gone through alone. Yaz waited four years, travelled through time - the long way round - with nothing more than a hologram. When the Doctor had taken the quick route.
The Doctor pushed her doubts, worries and nerves to the back of her mind and pressed on through the room. It was a control deck, there were computer screens facing towards a window into space. The stars glowing through the glass. Even after all these years the stars still made her stop and stare. She stood, wondering what the first thing she would say to Yaz was going to be. The many possible scenarios that could happen, that might happen ran through her head simultaneously, a brain too big.
Yaz stood and stared at her for a moment. She saw the pacing up and down in front of the window, the deep sighs, the nervous clipping of her nails. The Doctor had no idea what she was going to do. The opportunity was laid bare in front of her, so she didn't take it. When the Doctor worked it out, she would tell her, she'd waited long enough, waiting a bit longer wouldn't hurt. People waited for the Doctor. That was just what was done. So she walked through the open door and looked at the monitors, "hey have you seen this?" She asked with a smile on her face, distracting the Doctor with a problem couldn't hurt.
The Doctor walked over to where Yaz was standing gave the monitor a quick scan with the sonic and stood back as an apparition appeared in the air before them. Each line was a strand of something wrong, something that'd broken down and at which date. Each line gaining more and more height as the dates got closer to the present. They were all little things - small faults that could be easily explained if this had been a human controlled ship, but here they were, and here no one else was. "Something is wrong Yaz." The Doctor stated, she had that curious but worried look on her face and Yaz knew that there was going to be no talking for a while. The Doctor walked around the room for awhile, tapping her chin and looking down at her feet every now and again.
Yaz left the room and called out to Dan, who appeared after a few minutes and the pair stood in the doorway waiting for instructions. "Do you want us to have a look around?" Yaz asked, folding her arms over the chest. The Doctor's eyes picked up, she squinted then took a bright step forwards, springing into action.
"Ok, Dan you go and check out the hibernation pods - see that all the passengers are still asleep." She said, pointing towards the man in the room, he left down the hall in a contented stroll, on his travels around the ship he'd already checked the hibernation pods and everyone was ok, so he went down to the hold. "Yaz, um I don't know, I'm going over to source of that weird noise that's beeping right in my ear. Maybe go back to the TARDIS and look for something to repair the ship with, there's a box under the console." The Doctor reeled off, too much information in one go but then she stopped.
"What's wrong with the ship? And what noise?" Yaz asked, but the Doctor rushed past her, her shoulders arched as usual and sonic in hand.
"I think there's a meteor in the engine room. Time Lady noise thingy - just go!" She shouted over her shoulder heading down the corridor with a quick strut and quickly disappeared around the corner.
"Stop sending me away!" Yaz called after her, but she'd gone and now all there was to do was to get the supposed repair box from the console room. She trod off alone into the blue box, her thoughts jumbling as she continued her wonderings as to what the Doctor needed to tell her. She walked over the metal, hand gliding across the handrail as she came to the glowing console. It was her home, but it was still such a mystery to her. She took her time, gathering the box from under the console. It was a large carboard thing with flaps hanging down at either side. Inside were the contents of many circuits and wires that could connect in some sort of fashion. On top was a fez.
Yaz picked up the red hat and placed in on her head, imitating the Doctor. "I wear a fez now, fezzes are cool." She mocked, the TARDIS made a shuffling noise - like a laugh. Yaz brushed it off, shaking her head as she dropped the box on one of the steps and walked into the heart of the TARDIS, mumbling as she walked. "If she doesn't need me, then I'm going to find something else to do." She said, taking to one of the long winding corridors and heading for her bedroom.
She walked quietly, but a simply tapping behind her felt wrong and out of place. The shiver ran down her spine before the tap on her shoulder made a visual shudder. Yaz turned on her heels and saw herself reflected back out of the air. She didn't trust her own eyes, as no one does. "What- what?" She stuttered, reaching out for the version of herself she didn't recognise.
"I am the visual representation of Yasmin Khan. You are Yasmin Khan. Do you wish to access your records?" The Teselecta spoke.
