AN: I have only little knowledge of any canon material about these two. I only started playing pokemon shield about a month ago and think they would make a cute couple, especially based on that one comment from an NPC about how they used to be friends and rivals. So, all of this here is based on headcanons and ideas that probably aren't working within any canon frame.

Glowing
It was a rough night out on Route 07, the wind howling and a light rain making being outside intensely uncomfortable. Most travellers had opted to spend the night at the inn in Hammerlocke and to make the way to Chirchester or Spikemuth in the morning instead of making camp somewhere along the road.
Of course, in Sonia's impartial opinion, that was a blessing. Not because she particularly enjoyed spending her nights in a flimsy tent during such weather, but because it meant nobody would hear or notice anything. Not the single black and yellow tent nestled against a stone wall, not the grim Charizard that suspiciously insisted on standing guard outside, and not the unmistakable noises coming from inside of the tent, either.
Even with the back of her left hand pressed to her mouth, Sonia wasn't able to fully muffle the moans and cries dropping from her lips, and a part of her hated it. One noise after the other, he drew from her, that smug git. And that she couldn't suppress them in the first place was the most infuriating thing of all. Even after years of heartache and learning to cope… she was still so weak for him.
"Ah—f-fuck!" she shouted, her other hand clutching at his hair.
"Mmmh, I see that's still a sensitive spot for you," Leon hummed, gently teething her inner thigh. It sent a shiver through her body, anticipation coiling tightly in her guts.
"Apparently, it is," Sonia huffed, though with far less venom in her voice than she'd intended. "So what?"
Leon's eyes sparkled as he looked up at her. "It's just nice to know. This really brings back a lot of memories." He chuckled, then leaned back down again where he lay between her spread thighs, tormenting her with his lips and his tongue.
Sonia mewled, head twisting to the side and her eyes screwed shut. Oh, yes, this brought back memories, indeed. His rough hands on her thighs, holding her in place, reminded her of the years she and Leon had spent travelling the known world, training and studying pokemon. His tongue caressing along her folds and pushing into her reminded her of all the nights they'd spent like this, with heated sex, sometimes for fun and sometimes more meaningful, and lovely cuddling afterwards. His lips suckling on her clit, slowly driving her into madness, reminded her of all the hopes and dreams she'd held back then.
Her approaching orgasm kept her from further gliding down that road. Oh, she was so close. Just a little more, yes, like that, there, yes—
With another chuckle, Leon slowed down, trailing a line of open-mouthed kisses along her thigh instead of sucking and licking at her clit to finally get her off.
"Nooo~" Sonia sobbed, and her fingers tightened in his hair as she tried to shove him back where she wanted—no, where she needed him. "No, please. Stop teasing me."
"Ah, but I so love to see you like this." His voice was rough, a low rumble against her skin. "So needy. Covered in glistening sweat. Trembling with want. I could watch you like this for hours, you know?"
Sonia whined, and she made another attempt at pushing him back down between her thighs, this time using her legs as well. Although, if he kept talking like this, she might even come just from that. Fuck, she still loved everything about him.
"Please, Leon," she begged. "I… I need—" She broke off, whimpering, when he placed another light kiss onto her clit.
"Don't worry. I know exactly what you need."
Sonia gasped as Leon pushed two of his fingers into her. She was so wet, there was hardly any resistance, the feeling of him inside her so wonderful she was nearly in tears.
It took him surprisingly little time to find her most sensitive spots, as if he still knew them by heart, and within less than a minute, Sonia was reduced to a writhing mess in his hold.
"Aaahh! Oh, f— Nng, haaa. Oh, p-ple-aahh-leas. Le…Leon! I… I can't— mmmhh…"
With both of her hands in his hair now, she lost track of whether she was tearing out individual strands or nearly suffocating him, her thighs a vise-like grip around his head. Deep inside, she hoped she wasn't hurting him, but also knew there was no way for her to loosen her grip, not now. Not when she was so close, so deliciously close, her body so tense it was close to breaking. But Leon only chuckled, a low vibration against her sensitive nerves, and kept building her arousal higher and higher. Licking and sucking at her clit, his fingers pushing in and out, pressing against her g-spot and setting her nerves on fire.
"Aaahh! L-leeeeooon!"
Her orgasm crashed through her like an explosion, wracking her body and her mind alike. Lightning crackled up her spine and made her see stars, his name on her lips turning into helpless moans. And he just wouldn't stop. Wave after wave of pleasure washed through her as Leon kept playing her body, toes curling and legs shaking until, eventually, she couldn't take any more. Mewling, she pushed him away, her muscles trembling at the effort.
Only slowly, Sonia regained her senses, her chest heaving as she tried to catch her breath. Oh, Leon was still so incredibly good at this, giving it his all, just like with everything he did. Right now, he was slowly working his way up her body, peppering every bit of exposed skin with light kisses. It tickled, but not in an uncomfortable way. Instead, it made her tingle all over, made her giggle and squirm, happily grinning up at him.
"Just as beautiful as I remember," Leon murmured once he'd reached her eye level, brushing away a strand of hair that stuck to her sweaty forehead.
Sonia's lips twitched. She didn't need to ask, knew what he meant. According to him, she always seemed to glow after an orgasm. It sounded silly to her, but she still enjoyed hearing him say so. Even though she shouldn't…
However, all such thoughts left her mind as Leon kissed her, his lips moving with her own provided an irresistible distraction. She couldn't even say whether it was hundreds of individual kisses or just one endless kiss. Either way, their lips never parted; not when his tongue delved into her mouth to tease here in the most exciting and frustrating ways, not when her arms wrapped around his neck and her hands moved into his amazing hair, and not when he wrapped one strong arm around her waist to hurl her even closer, either. She didn't even feel like breathing, never wanted these moments to end.
And for a while, her wish seems to come true. With their bodies intertwined, they made out for what seemed like forever, hot skin against skin, hands exploring what was once so familiar. Sonia's hands wandered down Leon's back, around and up his chest, over his shoulders and arms, finding scars both old and new. Never getting enough. With both of them naked, she could feel his cock poking against her thighs, her stomach, hot and pulsing. His hands on her breasts turned from gentle to firm, kneading, pinching, making her practically vibrate with want. Oh, how her body had longed for his touch, rough, yet tender. How her heart had yearned to be one with him, to feel his affection again, his warmth, his love.
But her mind knew better…
"Leon, wait!"
It cost her every shred of self-control to pull away, to roll them around until she was on top of him, and to sit up, bringing some distance between them. But even though the voice screaming reason inside her was buried deeply, it was still there. Reminding her of crushed hopes and of the pain that followed.
With eyes blown wide and dark with arousal, Leon gazed up at her in confusion, yet made no attempt to close the distance between them again. "What is it, Sonia?" he just asked, and her heart nearly melted at the honest concern in his voice, her resolve almost cracking.
But she had to do this.
Biting her lip, she gathered her courage, and after taking a shallow breath, she asked, "Why are we here?"
Leon blinked, his confusion growing stronger. "Uhm, what do you mean?" He stayed serious, took her concerns serious, didn't make a joke about how he'd thought it was obvious, and Sonia had to give him a lot of credit for that.
"I mean," she said without meeting his eyes. "What does this mean to you? Us being here, together."
Leon pushed himself up on his elbows, his expression unreadable. "I'm still not sure I understand. I'm… here because I want to? I want to be with you, here, in this tent. Catching up on old times." He trailed off, awkwardly shrugging.
Sonia's lips pressed into a thin line. Catching up on old times… That was just the problem, wasn't it? What did that mean to him? What had their time together meant to him back then, before he'd become the Unbeatable Champion? And did he know how she'd felt?
She had to tell him. If she ever truly wanted to find closure, one way or the other, she had to be completely open with him. Even though the prospect of telling him was more than just a little scary.
It wasn't as if she hadn't meant to talk to him about it all, though. She just wished she'd found the courage to start this topic sooner. When he'd asked her whether she wanted to accompany him on this little journey, maybe, or when they'd decided to make camp together. This now, with both of them naked and with her straddling his hips, all but sitting on his cock, was definitely not how she'd envisioned this conversation to happen. But it couldn't be helped now.
"There's something I need to tell you," she eventually said.
Leon, probably sensing how tense she was, just nodded, and he looked at her expectantly.
"I… Back when we travelled the world together, we did it as friends. As rivals, too. We kept pushing each other to higher goals, always trying to one up the other. It was a great time, all of it. The training, seeing the world. The fun we had, night and day."
Leon smirked as she paused, clearly recalling those days—or rather, those nights. "I remember," he said, grinning. "It really was a great time. But… that's not what you wanted to tell me, right?"
Sonia bit her lip and dropped her gaze.
"Come on, Nia. What is it that's eating at you? You know you can tell me everything."
Sonia all but whimpers as he used his old nickname for her. Oh, yeah, she was still absolutely and helplessly weak for him.
"I've been in love you," she blurted out. There, she'd said it. "I know I shouldn't have been. We were just friends, after all. Just travelling companions. But…" she trailed off, unsure of what to say now.
Looking up again, Leon's lips had parted, but it took him a few moments before he replied. "Why did you never say anything?" There was no accusation in his voice, only calm earnestness.
Sonia took a deep breath. "Because I know that wasn't what you wanted. Your dream, your goal above everything else, was to become the Galar Champion. To prove yourself and to help make the Galar trainers stronger. That was all your efforts focussed on, and I always just wanted to help you. To be the challenging rival you needed. And I know that everything else would only have been a distraction." Again, Sonia lowered her gaze. She didn't want to see pity in his eyes. Holding back her feelings for him had hurt, yes. But it had still been her decision.
"Oh, Nia…"
Slowly, Leon sat up. Sonia trembled as he brought his hand to her face and, oh, so carefully brushed a strand of hair out of her face. Without really wanting to, she leaned into his touch, thriving in his warmth.
"You were right," he murmured eventually. "Becoming the champion was my goal, and I never thought of much else."
Sonia flinched. She'd never expected anything else, but his words still stung. So she'd been right about not telling him about her feelings. She should have just kept her mouth shut now, too.
"However," he went on, lifting her chin so his eyes found hers again. "This dream I chased… It was the dream of a boy. That doesn't make it less valid, just…"
"Just what?" Sonia asked when he didn't go on, her voice nearly getting stuck in her throat.
Suddenly, there was a somewhat forlorn look in Leon's eyes, an expression she wished she could wipe away somehow. "Just… that the boy grew up. That he realised what a blessing it was for his dream to come true, and in such a spectacular manner no less. But also, that this dream wasn't how he wanted to spend his entire life."
He took a deep breath, then slowly let it out again. His free hand landed on her waist, lightly, but it was enough to make her heart beat faster.
"I never meant to stay the Unbeatable Champion for so many years. It was a good time, all in all, but I barely got the chance to be myself, always had one appointment after the other, always had to be what the people wanted to see in me."
Sonia nodded. That was why she'd eventually given up on staying in regular contact with him. He'd had countless fans, still had them now, and by far not all of them admired him for being an amazing Pokemon trainer. How could she compete with literally thousands of ambitious fans? More importantly, however; he'd barely ever had the time to visit his family. How could she've expected him to have time for a simple friend then?
When Leon went on, his hand cupping her face was trembling. "But even though there were always so many people around me, I found myself to be… lonely. And… and I missed you." He paused, his gaze growing more intense. "You asked why we're here and I told you the truth. Once, I was too late in realising what I felt for you, but I hope we can still catch up on what we had. Because I loved you, too. And I still do. So, if there's anything of those feeling left, if you're willing to give us a second—"
He never got the chance to finish his sentence.
With joy surging up like a tidal wave inside her, Sonia all but threw herself at him, sealing his mouth with her lips and her arms thrown around his neck. He loved her. He grunted but quickly caught himself again, his arms wrapping around her waist and holding her tight. He'd always loved her. This time, it was Sonia who dominated the kiss, nipping at his lips or dipping her tongue into his mouth. As if she needed to reassure herself that he was real.
At first, there occasionally were giggles every now and then, bursts of happiness from both sides. But after a minute of three, the kiss grew deeper. Hotter. When kisses weren't enough anymore, their bodies followed, grinding together in search of closeness. Remembering how they were both still naked, desire blossomed anew in Sonia, in her chest and in her entire body, and this time, no thought of logic or caution would hold her back.
With a wet smack, she pulled her lips away from Leon, earning herself a needy whine as he tried to follow. The expression on his face was pure longing when she lifted herself up on her knees, somewhere he couldn't easily follow in his current position. Then his eyes widened, his lips parting as if he wanted to say something. But all that left his mouth was a deep groan rumbling from his chest as Sonia reached down to steady his pulsing cock. A quick shared look, a second of wordless communication. Then she sank down again, taking him in.
Oh, fuck, that felt good!
Sonia all but sobbed at how full she felt with him inside her, realising just how much exactly she'd missed this. Missed him. Because it was about more than just being filled with a hot cock. Nothing would ever compete with being one with him.
"N-nia…"
Leon's eyes were dark, blown wide, his fingers digging into her ass cheeks where he held her. He was trembling from holding back when, clearly, all he wanted was to buck his hips, to feel more of her wet heat around his cock.
Grinning, Sonia pushed against his chest until he was lying on his back again, gazing up at her through hungry eyes. "My turn," she hummed, then started moving her hips. There was no need for a slow build-up, but she enjoyed teasing him just as much as he did. Just listening to his needy groans, feeling him buck beneath her, hoping to spur her on. Delicious.
Eventually, slowly grinding and rotating her hips turned into more pronounced bouncing. Leon's hands were on her thighs now, clinging to her as if she was all that kept him sane. She loved the little grunts and moans he let out as signs of his arousal, how his head twisted to one side and the cords in his neck stood out when he was close. How his fingers dug even deeper when she slowed down, and how his cock noticeably twitched inside her as if demanding attention. High on emotions, it made her giggle.
When the tension reached his jaw, his teeth gritted, she showed mercy. With her hands on his broad chest for balance, Sonia lifted herself higher only to slam down on him again, over and over. She liked this position for the sense of power it gave her and for how well she could watch her partner beneath her—and for the view she gave with her bouncing tits, the awestruck look on their faces. But while it felt good for her, it wasn't a position she could come in. But then, sometimes, that wasn't necessary, anyway.
"F-fuck, Nia," Leon growled through gritted teeth. He was only seconds away from release; she still knew his signs so well. So she again heightened her pace, grinning. His pleasure was hers.
Leon wasn't loud when he came, only groaned, long and deep. His hips lifted off the ground as he pushed into her even deeper, his hot come filling her body. Sonia sighed, riding out his orgasm with him. Prolonging the wonderful moment she'd dreamed of for so many years.
. o O o .
A little while later, they lay side by side, still a little breathless.
"I assume that's a yes, then?" Leon asked, his eyes closed but with a huge grin on his face.
Sonia giggled as she cuddled to his side, her head resting on his shoulder. "Whether I'd like to give us a chance? It is. There's literally nothing I want more than being with you and seeing where it leads us."
Leon opened his eyes, and the look he gave her made something inside of her melt. It spoke of deep admiration, of longing, of joy and relief. Of love. But also of guilt and regret. "I'm sorry," he murmured. "For… for not acting when I should have. And that it took me so long."
Feeling generous with how happy she was in his arms, she gave a light shrug. "All that matters is that we're here now," she said, but then added with a smirk, "Although, we could've been here way earlier. Nobody forced you to stay the Unbeatable Champion; you always could have lost on purpose."
However, she didn't need to see the pained look on his face to know how wrong her words were. In theory, Leon could have forfeited any fight over the last years, but she knew all too well that, practically, that had never been an option. Leon's respect for the pokemon, their trainers, the battles, and overall Galar and the people living here was too strong for him to give anything but his best at any occasion—and she respected that. In a way, it was also part of why she loved him, after all.
But she made a mental note to thank Hop's friend again. Even though they'd never know it was for more than merely their help with Zacian and Zamazenta.
Pecking Leon's bare chest as a sign she wasn't holding any ill will against him, Sonia shuffled up a bit to better look at him. "So, what are we're going to do, then? After we got out of this tent, I mean," she added with a slight twitch of her mouth. "What are you going to do now?"
Something in Leon's eyes grew even softer than before, and he reached up with one hand to caress along her face. "Well, as you know, I want to finish my tour of visiting all the gym leaders. Saying goodbye, and all."
Sonia nodded; that was how they'd ended up here, after all. She'd agreed to accompany him, for old time's sake, and the idea of travelling these routes on foot once again had been nostalgic and a lot of fun, so far—even without the events of this night.
"And after that," Leon went on, shrugging with a small smile on his lips. "I don't really have any plans. Except…" He let his thumb glide over her lower lip, making her shiver.
Oh, how she wished she could say the same… "I… agreed to take over my grandma's work," she said without meeting his eyes. "I'll be spending some time at the lab, but mostly, I'll be travelling. A lot!" She sighed. Leon probably wanted to catch up on time with his family. They could meet when she was at the lab, sure… but those times would be busy working time for her.
Typical. Now that he had the time and freedom for a relationship, she was too busy. Maybe, they weren't meant to be, after all.
However, Leon's smile just deepened. "Sounds good to me."
"It… does?"
"Sure. Travelling around and exploring the world and its pokemon with you; I'd love that. I… probably won't be of much help with the research aspects, but I could still help you. As something like your assistant, maybe?" He winked. "At the very least, I and Charizard can chase away bandits or aggressive pokemon, keeping you safe."
Sonia's eyes grew wide. "You'd… come with me?"
Leon's expression turned serious, his eyes capturing hers. "Sonia… I had a lot of time to think about this, and I'm serious. I want to be with you. For real. And if that means following you through the entire known and unknown world, then I'm all up for it. That is… if it's all right with you? We can go about it slower if you want? I have all the time in the world now," he added with a small laugh.
Sonia gasped out a laugh as well. "No. I mean, yes! Of course, that all right with me. I…" She trailed off, her head spinning. Was this really happening? She could hardly believe it. She'd agreed to this trip out of nostalgia and the hope of getting some form of closure for her unrequited feelings and hopeless pining. But this?
Leon loved her.
And he wanted to come with her.
To be with her.
Overcome with joy, all she could do was kiss him. Her lips, stretched into a stupid grin, pressed against his as laughter and giggling bubbled up inside her. Chuckling, Leon wrapped his free arm around her, his hand buried in her hair at the nape of her neck. There really was no way she could be any happier at this moment. And even though the kiss had started out lightly, it quickly grew deeper, more heated. As if the truth of their feelings for each other finally settled in, as if their minds finally accepted the soul-deep longing and let their body give in.
Leon pulled her closer against him, her chest flush to his, and to her, there was no telling where her lips and tongue ended and his began. They were moving as one, exploring, demanding and yielding, claiming what so far had only been a dream. Hungrily longing for more, deeper, more.
Sonia moaned as he rolled them around, remarkably gently given how passionate their making-out was, and she felt his cock against her stomach, hot and hard again. Oh, she was so ready for this, more than ready. She practically ached to feel him inside her again, so much more meaningful than ever before, even than her riding him just now. Parting her legs, she twisted into a better position, beaming inwardly when Leon broke the kiss for a second to look at her. Asking a silent question. Sonia nodded, then pulled him back down against her lips.
His hips moving steadily, he slipped inside her as if it was the most natural thing in the world. And maybe it was. At least it felt like it, as if they were made to fit together like this. Sonia couldn't help the grin spreading across her face at that thought, and she wrapped her arms around his neck, holding him close. It felt so right.
"I love you, Leon," she mumbled into his ear, the need to finally say it overwhelming.
A shiver ran through his body at her words, noticeable even to her. "Nia," he whispered, just that, just her name. But it was more than enough.
With his weight on top of her, pushing her down into the futon mattress, Leon's movements were casual, deliberate, his hips rolling slowly. In and out, hitting her perfectly. After earlier, neither of them was in any hurry, and so they just relished in being together, so close as if they were one.
Their kisses, openmouthed and hot, turned distracted, low moans interrupting. A shiver ran down Sonia's spine as Leon switched to let his lips run along her jaw, to kiss down her neck, to nibble at her collarbone. Oh, he still remembered all her sensitive spots, knew her so well.
With slow motions, he took her apart, unhurried, thrust by thrust. The way he hit her perfectly, the friction along her nerves; Sonia felt high on all these sensations.
"L-leon," she groaned, her head spinning. She could feel the tension growing now, coiling tight. Her fingers dug into his back, her legs wrapping around his hips as she moved with him, trying to urge him on.
Leon grunted and readjusted his knees, his movements growing even more intense. Quicker. Harder.
"I'm gonna c-come," Sonia moaned, her orgasm building deep inside her.
"Yes!" Leon all but growled, fucking her relentlessly until he pushed her over the edge with one particularly powerful thrust.
Screaming as the pleasure overwhelmed her, Sonia lost touch with reality for a moment. There was only Leon, his still so familiar scent surrounding her, his drawn-out groan as he came only seconds after her, his touch and his heat all around her. Inside her. Clenching down on his pulsing length somehow made her orgasm immeasurably more potent, intense, almost bordering to painful. It was a feeling she never wanted to miss again.
When she regained her senses a few minutes later, she found Leon propped up on his elbow next to her. He was watching her with a strange expression, his eyes a little misty.
"You okay?" she asked in a slurred voice, heavy and tired. She didn't worry but was more curious, remembering how emotional he sometimes could be. Something she doubted many people had seen over the last decade.
With a serene smile, Leon nodded. "Yeah. I'm just… I wasn't sure how you would react after all these years. And… I guess I was afraid. Of having missed my chance, of you wanting nothing to do with me anymore. Of never seeing you glow like this again."
Sonia rolled her eyes but chuckled. There it was again, his soppy post-sex self. But even though she'd never admit it out loud… she'd missed this. There was just something in the way he looked at her, as if she was the sun or the moon, as if there was nothing else worth looking at. Just like she'd looked at him for all her life.
"Well, I guess that's cleared up now," she said, lightly but with underlying sincerity. Rolling around to face him, she placed a hand to his chest, over his heart. "I think I can live with having you around more regularly again."
. o O o .
When the sun rose the next morning, the uncomfortable dribbling and the wind were gone. Slowly, travellers from Hammerlocke City trickled along the path on their ways to Chirchester or Spikemuth, eyeing the tent nestled against the stone wall with mild curiosity. Nobody dared to bother the sleeping Charizard lying in front of it, though, which was probably for the best.
Inside, Leon was unable to take his eyes off Sonia sleeping next to him. There were just too many emotions whirling inside him, and a small part of him probably still feared she might turn into mist if he only so much as blinked, that last night had been nothing but an amazingly vivid dream.
I love you, Leon.
But no. Those words, they hadn't been a dream. She'd really said them, nearly making his heart explode with joy. Besides, the scratches on his back were proof enough, burning reminders of how real this moment was. Despite all his worries, she'd agreed to give them another chance, and even though he wasn't so foolish as to believe everything was fine now… Well, he at least had all the time in the world now to make it up to her. Again and again and again…
Outside, the sun rose higher, and the route grew busy with more and more people being on their way again. Inside their tent, however, Leon and Sonia didn't even think about getting up and going—or even about putting on clothes again. After all, they could continue their journey just as well on the following day, right?
. o O o .
So, that was that. I hope somebody enjoyed this, and I'd love to get some feedback. ^.^
