Chapter 7: Food, music, and fun!
Warning* Heavy Fluff and Alcohol use *Warning*
lots of back and forth! Sorry!
The doorknob turned slowly as Frye turned around to speak with BigMan. "I don't know why you're so happy..."
"Hey guys." A soft voice chimed as the two laid eyes on a familiar face. "Shiver!" The Inkling dropped her bags as she ran up to the Octoling, scooping her up into a tight hug. "I missed you too!" Shiver giggled as she slowly wrapped her arms around Frye's neck. Yellow eyes sparkled as they met stunning red ones. "How was the trip? Are you hurt? Did you find what you were looking for?" She bombarded the poor girl with more questions as said Octo started to laugh. "Frye, please. One question at a time."
"Ok, ok! How are you?"
Pale arms pulled the inkling close for another hug. "Im great, thanks for asking. How are you two?" Shiver smiled as she watched BigMan slip past them. "Ay!" (Wonderful!) Frye placed her hands on Shiver's hips, swaying softly to her own rhythm. "I thought I was the one asking the questions?" She smirked as Shiver swayed along. "You are. Next question?" They added smugly.
"What took you so long?"
Shiver gave a soft smile as her eyes shifted in thought. "I found my brother."
The music in Frye's head stopped. She lifted Shiver off the ground with a spin. Her toes twirled happily as Shiver's smile grew. "I'm so happy for you! Did you bring him with you?"
"No, but he wants to meet you."
"Me? Why me?"
The Octoling tapped Frye's shoulder, silently asking to be put down which she obliged. "Frye?" They asked, slipping their hands into hers.
"Shiver?" She tilted her head curiously.
"Would you like to go out tonight?"
"So you do wanna hang out! I would love to!"
"Actually, I was thinking more like a date."
Frye's ears flicked up in alert, "A date?"
"If that's ok?"
"Of course that's ok!" Frye scooped up the octo, nuzzling into her soft tentacle.
"Frye!" She giggled happily as the inkling couldn't stop smiling. "Shiver you beautiful creature! Let's dance and never stop!" She couldn't help but twirl around happily, Shiver clinging tightly in her arms, ink slowly creeping up her face.
After calming herself down, Frye quickly ran into her room. "What to wear! What to wear!" She chanted as she slipped into the closet. "I wish i bought that dress! I don't have any fancy digs!" Clothes went flying! Baggy pants, crop tops, even bras were tossed around. With a sigh she plopped onto her hammock in defeat, sending a box flopping out of her so called bed. The lid popped off to reveal the dress she wanted. "Oh my cod! How...?" She picked up a note that was attached to the box.
Dear Frye,
I know it's not your birthday yet but I knew this would come in handy. I hope you two have a wonderful night! Don't get into any trouble!
BigMan
"Silly Manta ray. I owe you another, big guy." Frye quickly picked up her mess and grabbed a small makeup bag that looked fairly new along with her new attire. "I'm going to get ready in the bathroom! No peeking Shiver~" Frye shouted her tease down the hall. "Alright, than I'll use the room. You can peek if you want, I have nothing to hide~" Shiver called back with a playful bark in her tone. Frye could hardly believe what she heard, Shiver was flirting back?! Her ears fluttered in excitement as she hastily pulled off her shirt. "Tonight has to be perfect! I have to be perfect! She's so perfect." She leaned up against the door with a swooning sigh and smile.
It had been a long time sense Frye did her own makeup. They had a team to help her get ready for splatcast and performances, so she barely had a reason to practice. Her blush seemed a bit off and every time she added to one side the other seemed lighter. "Damn it! Just match at this point! I don't care how pink I look!" Frye growled at the mirror. Avoiding to look at the crooked pink lip gloss smeared along her lips. "Frye? Need any help?" Shiver lightly taped on the door in concern. The inkling hummed and took a few calming breaths. "No, I'm just out of practice. I'll be out in a second."
"Alright, just don't get yourself too worked up. You look amazing ether way."
"You don't even know what I'm wearing." Frye smirked as her blush finally equaled out.
"I don't have to know. You look good in anything."
Heat began to radiate under the artificial color on her cheeks. Frye quickly applied more lipgloss and sprayed herself in her usual perfume. "Ok, I think I'm ready." The yellow inkling slowly opened the door and was Aw struck when her eyes landed on Shiver. The blue octo had pulled her back tentacles into a bun, and a silky blue and silver kimono wrapped around her torso. She looked like a princess in Frye's eyes. "Shiver you look..." She stopped when she saw Shiver's eyes widen. Now she felt a panic rushing to her head, 'Do I look bad?! Why is she staring at me like that! Too much blush? Are my fangs pink?!'
Shiver's breath hitched when Frye opened the door. Orange and yellow hit her eyes as she took in the inkling's new look. 'She looks like a goddess!' Shiver screamed in her own head as Frye nervously fumbled with her own yellow tentacle. Shiver didn't quite catch what Frye said so she quickly cleared her throat, "Sorry, I was a little distracted."
'Distracted?! By what?! My fangs are pink aren't they!?' Frye quickly turned her head and licked her long sharp fangs. Shiver turned the other direction and seemed to be checking herself for any imperfections. "Sorry, do you think I overdressed?" Shiver swayed her hips a bit, making Frye's brain melt at the sight. "I... um... no? You look amazing!" She was able to get out as she gently placed her hands into Shiver's. "And you're nothing less then stunning." Shiver's words hung on her breath as Frye leaned in slowly. 'Wait! Frye you dummy, you don't kiss before a date! You'll get your lipgloss all over her!' Frye snapped herself out of the trance and quickly rushed to the front door, forgetting she had a grip on Shiver's hands.
Evening is a wonderful time to get out. The lights on the billboards glowing softly as the sun paints the sky In beautiful shades of yellow and red. Inklings and Octolings stopped and stared at the two idols that walked past in their stunning outfits. "Shiver? Where are we going?" Frye asked quietly as she tightened her grip on the Octo's hand. "You'll see. Don't worry, I made a reservation in a private booth."
"Private booth?" Frye's mind wondered into dangerous territory. This was only their first real date and Frye was trying to keep herself under control. Little did she know that Shiver's mind was just as chaotic. "Y-yes? So fans can't interrupt us. I only want my eyes on you." The Octoling quickly realized what slipped out of her mouth. "I mean!? Tonight is about us, and I want to spend it with just you."
"Aw~ Shiv, that's so sweet! I feel the same way."
The couple stood outside the fanciest looking restaurant they had ever seen. "Shiv! This looks too expensive!"
"Don't worry about it. I was only told good things about the food here, and being a famous idol has its perks." Shiver answered with a smirk. They made their way inside and quickly a server greeted the two celebrities. The inkling waiter led them to a curtained off room, with an assortment of appetizers and a couple bottles of wine and champagne for their choosing. "Shiv, this is way too much."
"You can have whatever you want. Don't worry it's all on me."
"I don't need fancy food and drinks to fall for you Shiv. I'm already flat on my face in love with you." Frye didn't realize what she said until she saw Shiver's reaction. The Octo smiled as she tilted her head down. Red eyes still locked on yellow, trying to read her next move. "Frye, I'm not trying to buy your affection. I'm trying to show you mine. Now relax, or you're going to have a hard time dancing later."
"Dancing? How much have you planned?"
"Just food and dancing. I know you well enough to plan a good time."
"Burgers and Fries would have been good enough for me."
"I know, but maybe I wanted to try something new. This date isn't all about you, you know."
The two smirked at one another before Frye pulled out a the chair for Shiver. "My lady?" She teased, not expecting Shiver to peck her on the cheek before sitting. "Thank you, how thoughtful."
The two chatted as they glanced at the menu. Frye made a joke on octo pie that made Shiver flustered, but they giggled it off. Frye ordered a fancy looking fish dish and Shiver settled for a salad. "You came here for a salad?" Frye joked. "No, I came here for the desserts and drinks." Shiver smirked as she popped open a bottle of red wine. "Wait, they have desserts?! I should have picked something smaller!" Frye grumbled. "Darling, it will be fine. We can take something sweet togo and eat it later. Don't stuff yourself silly, like you normally do." Shiver tilted the bottle to Frye who nodded in return.
Sitting back in her seat, Shiver watched Frye slowly try to control her eating pace. Shiver had already ate her salad and was nibbling on the leftover appetizers, sipping on her forth or maybe fifth drink. She lost track after she opened the second bottle. Frye protested, but Shiver rarely got to relax like this. Frye had drank a few glasses but stopped when she was halfway done with her meal. "Don't force yourself. I can tell you're getting full." Shiver slurred as she chuckled playfully. "Says the drunk princess." Frye snarked back as she toyed with her food. "Aw~ my French Frye is being salty~ maybe we should get some dessert."
Frye's ears flickered as Shiver leaned up against the table seductively. "Ok! No more for you!"
"But we can't waste the bottle! Let me at least finish it!" Shiver reached for the bottle but Frye was quicker.
"My dear Sharky, please cut back on the wine. I promise to help you finish it before we leave." Frye gently used her free hand to rub small circles on Shiver's. "Mm~ alright, but only because you asked nicely."
It took a while for Frye to finally clear her plate, but Shiver didn't mind. She was too focused on the conversation to even notice. "So Shiv, what kind of sweets did you want?" Frye asked as she pushed the plate aside. "I'm partial to cake, but if you want something else..."
"I love cake! Who doesn't like cake? You can even make ice cream into a cake!" The yellow Inkling jumped happily in her chair, earning herself a soft chuckle. "Chocolate?"
"Yeah! With maybe some strawberries on top?"
"When could you read my mind?"
"Maybe I saw you looking at the advertisement." Frye pointed at the picture on the back of the untouched dessert menu. Shiver's eyes grew wide before she began to laugh. "You sly inkling! I knew there was a reason I liked you!" She joked between chuckles. Frye stood up and walked over to her companion, slowly pulling the chair away from the table with a smirk. "Is that all you like about me?"
"Of course not, but the club will be closed if I start my list now."
Frye's hearts skipped, 'She likes me that much?!' Screamed at the back of her head. "Maybe later then."
Shiver stood up with a stretch as she wrapped her arms round the willing inkling. "Frye? Maybe I drank a bit too much."
"You feeling alright?" A loving hand slid up and down the smaller one's back.
"Yeah. Just a little wobbly. I'll be fine after standing a bit."
"Just hold onto me whenever you need to."
"Mm~ what if I just want to?"
Flustered, the inkling looked away. "What's with all the flirting? Normally you just criticize me."
"Because I'm happy. I found out that a part of my family is alive and well! Not to mention the Inkling I asked out said yes."
"If you're so happy, why drink?"
the Octo walked forward with her arm wrapped around Frye's. Shiver walked them to the desk and payed for everything, including the togo dessert. "Ignoring me now?"
"Hu? Oh no, I'm not. Sorry what was it?"
"Don't worry about it." The inkling sighed heavily as Shiver tried to catch up. "Oh ya! No I drink to relax. There is always so much in my head and dinking slows everything down. If I say something weird just let me know."
"You needed to relax? Am I too much to handle Sharky?"
She giggled, "No~ You're just so hot, my mind overloaded."
"Shiver..." Long pointed ears drooped down and a small chuff caught the Octo's attention. "Frye?! Did I say something weird?!"
"N...no." The inkling raised her head with tears rolling down her cheeks and a big bright smile that warmed Shiver's cold blood. "Honey, are you alright?"
Shiver tensed up when Frye smacked her lips against her own, but quickly leaned into the passionate kiss. Arms holding onto one another on the sidewalk as others passed by, definitely starting up some rumors. Shiver looked into the bight yellow stars, before she ever realized it was Frye's pupils. The warm hands cradling her felt better then any blanket she ever curled up in. Hums escaped them both as they parted. "Sorry... I've been wanting to do that for a while now." Frye laughed off her nervousness. "No need to apologize, now let's put that energy to good use."
"Hu?"
Hands clasped together, the two entered a brightly lit up building with music blaring out every entrance. A board looking octoling guarded the front door. "Welcome to club Blue Waters, I need to see your identification before..." Shiver had her's at the ready as Frye fumbled around for her's. "Shiver and Frye Hu? Those names sound familiar." He slurred, not really looking interested in the conversation he technically started. "We're just here to dance, if you don't mind." Shiver calmly wrapped her arm around Frye's as the Octo showed them in.
They couldn't hear anything over the music, but they were use to that. Shiver found them a nice little spot just for the two of them. Without a word, hands clasped and hips swayed. It didn't take long for them to outshine the other patrons, and made their presence known.
"Hey." A couple of Inkling boys stepped up to the idols as the music faded into a new song. "Hello." Shiver turned her head as Frye placed a claiming hand on the Octo's waist. "May we help you?" Frye lifted a brow as her arm pulled Shiver closer. "You're from DeepCut right? We love your music!" One boy smiled as the other smirked and added, "We didn't mean to startle you. We just wanted to ask you two for a dance."
Frye looked down at Shiver, "What do you think?"
"They asked both of us, it's not just my decision. Besides, I don't know how jealous my girlfriend can be quite yet."
Ink colored Frye's cheeks as her grip loosened. "W..well... with you calling me girlfriend I could relax a little."
The boys looked to each other then back to the girls. "So? Is that a yes?" "It would be a great honor!"
A chuckle escaped Shiver's lips. "Alright, but keep your tentacles to yourselves. Fair?" She looked at the boys then at her date for confirmation. "Yes of course!" "Wouldn't have it any other way."
"Frye dear?" Shiver ran a hand down the yellow ones arm. "Y...yeah. That's fine."
Shiver's smile dropped, "Frye, it's just one dance. For our fans. I promise the rest are all yours."
"Promise?" Frye smirked.
"Absolutely." Shiver softly stoke Frye's cheek as they parted. She was approached by the taller teal colored Inkling, as Frye reluctantly followed the peppy purple one. They stayed close, so close it looked like all four of them were dancing together. That made them both feel a lot better.
When the song was over they happily signed a few autographs for them and slinked back into their personal space. "Now I'm all yours. Just like I promised." Shiver purred as her arms wrapped around her girlfriend's neck. "Good! I like having my girlfriend to myself... wait, is girlfriend alright with you? I know you're not big on gender labels." Frye asked in concern. "Girlfriend is fine. You can call me whatever you like."
"You sure?"
"Yes Frye. If I respond to you calling me 'Sharky' then girlfriend is definitely alright."
Frye sighed in relief, before noticing the lights behind the stage flickering on. The music quickly cut off and an announcer hopped onto the stage. "Is everyone having a good time?!" The Inkling yelled to the crowd. Shiver shuffled in Frye's arms as they tightened around her waist. "We have some very special guests here tonight!" The Inkling continued.
"You didn't plan this... Right Shiver?" Frye asked with concern. "No! I swear! I didn't want this kind of attention tonight." She defended herself.
"Give it up for Off the Hook!"
The crowd went wiled as Frye and Shiver sighed in relief. Lights started to flash as two silhouettes emerged from the light. "Is everyone ready for a rocking time?!" The short one struck a pose as the tall one chuckled. "Come on Pearlie, let's get this party started!" The curtain raised to show the short white pink inkling holding a mic enthusiastically, and a black teal Octoling beginning to sing.
Shiver smiled as Frye jumped for joy. Her orange dress poofed up around her in excitement. "I didn't know they would be here." Shiver smirked at her hyper girlfriend. "This is so cool! Let's get closer and mess with them!" Frye's eyes sparkled with mischief as the other tried to hold back a laugh. "You're gonna to get us kicked out." She managed to say, but she was already getting dragged to the front.
Pearl was doing her thing, waiting for her cue as usual but a yellow inkling slipped into her sights. She instantly recognized her. Frye wasn't sure if Pearl even knew who she was but she got her attention alright. She sent up a playful smirk as she copied the rapper's movements. Shiver on the other hand leaned up against the wood of the stage and sang softly with Marina. The Octoling noticed Pearl missed her window, so quickly she had to cover it up. "Nice save." Shiver complimented using only her lips. Marina tipped her head in 'thanks' as they continued the show.
"Looks like this club is poppin! Who knew DeepCut was going to crash our party." Pearl bent down to Frye and offered her a hand. The yellow inkling smirked, "You think we're good enough to sing with y..." Frye choked when she saw Shiver hopping up on stage with Marina's help. "Come on Frye! You asked for it." Shiver smiled, letting go of the other Octoling. Frye chuckled as she jumped onto the stage without any help. Her dress magically flowing around her as she landed. "That's my girl." Shiver chuckled.
"Let's make some noise!!" Pearl shouted as Marina started singing. Shiver joined Marina as Frye and Pearl fought for the spotlight. Back and forth the Inklings rapped as the Octos sang in harmony. Pearl glared at Frye who playfully smirked in victory. Both Inklings where surprised when their respective partners took their hands. Frye turned to Shiver, entranced in her deep red eyes. Pearl practically jumped into Marina's arms, still rapping while Frye was distracted.
Backstage, the four of them popped down on the furniture. Shiver and Frye happily cuddled on the couch as Marina and Pearl took over a chair. Marina on the cushion, Pearl perched on the armrest. The pink Inkling swung her legs playfully as she spoke. "How exciting! What are you two doing here?"
"Dancing of course!" Frye cheered.
"And getting everyone's attention apparently." Shiver sneered.
"Don't get jealous! They love you too, but not as much as I do of course." Frye leaned back.
"Say that again?" Shiver sat up, eyes sparkling as her heartbeat quickened.
"Woh woh woh! Are you two together?" Pearl jumped in.
"How adorable!" Marina swooned. She wrapped an arm around her Pearl and snuggled closely to her side. Of course Pearl rebelled for a moment, but quickly relaxed. "This is our first date, but I hope so." Shiver turned back to Frye for approval. "Y-yes! Of course! I wouldn't want it any other way!" Frye pulled Shiver closer as her lips gently pecked the top of the blue tentacles. "Kisses on the first date? Lucky!" Pearl rolled her eyes but jumped when she caught Marina's glare. "What?!" She shouted. "What do you mean lucky!? It took YOU forever to kiss me!"
"Rina! You're too tall for me to kiss you like that!"
"Well don't make it seem like my fault!"
The two bickered as Shiver and Frye turned to each other lovingly. "Are we gonna fight like that?" Frye asked. "Probably, but after awhile I'll probably cave if you don't first."
"What's that suppose to mean?"
Shiver ignored the question and sat up. Frye followed, still questioning her date. Shiver stood up and before Frye could follow, she quickly pushed her Inkling against the sofa. "It means I can't stay mad at you. You're too pretty for my own good." The octo quickly locked lips with the Aw stricken Inkling.
"Damn... That's kinda hot." Pearl commented before her girlfriend pinched her cheek. "Rina!?" She mumbled through the pain.
"What were you thinking Hu?! Am I not good enough for you!?" Marina choked up in tears as her grip loosened. "What?! No!Rina, you're the best thing to ever happen to me! I was only ... here."
"Hu?" Marina's eyes widened as Pearl slipped into her lap. Her arms wrapped around the Octo's neck and roughly pulled her into a long kiss. Both couples embraced their partners and sooner or later they were given orders from the stage manager. "Off the Hook? Be ready in five minutes!"
"Ok... ok... lets... get ... ready ...mmm~" Marina tried to part from Pearl, but the Inkling was too infatuated to stop. Shiver on the other had already stopped her inkling takeover and calmly sat in her lap. "Frye darling, I think I'm done dancing for tonight. Are you ready to go home?"
"Hu? Oh, yes! As long as you don't run off again."
Shiver giggled at the comment, "I promise to wake up next to you every morning from now on. If that's alright."
"Shell ya that's alright!"
"Pearlie...? S...stop!" Marina tried to order between kisses. "Need a hand?" Shiver chuckled as she stood up, helping Frye up afterwards. To her surprise Marina had it covered. The octo slipped her hands to Pearl's sides and ruthlessly started tickling her. Pearl flung backwards in laughter as drool dripped down her chin. "Never mind. Nice form." Shiver praised. "Thanks, she does this all the time. I do give her a chance though." Marina shrugged. "Ok ok ok! I only wanted to show you how much I love you Rina!" Pearl snarled.
"Aw~ I love you too Pearlie!"
"Break a leg you two." Shiver smiled as she took Frye's warm hand. "Night you two!" Frye called back as well. "Wait!" Marina gently got up, helping Pearl to her feet, and stepped up to them. "I wanted to ask if I could get your numbers? It's hard to find friends in this kind of profession." She asked. They all eyed each other before Shiver nodded, handing the other octo her phone. "Maybe we can double date sometime. I could really use some pointers."
Frye lifted a brow. "You're asking for pointers? Who are you and what did you do with Shiver?" She joked, handing over her phone as well. "It's just that, I've never had to think about these kinds of things before." Shiver shyly took back her phone and typed Marina a quick 'Hi'. "I would love a double date! Right Pearlie?" Marina called back to her partner. "That's fine I guess. As long as you don't expect me to pay for everything." She huffed, not expecting everyone to laugh and nod. "Of course not, I can pamper my own girlfriend thank you." Frye tightly took hold of her Octoling's hip. "Thanks you two! It was a pleasure meeting you both." Marina smiled, opening the back stage door. "Hope to see you soon!" Shiver answered as Frye nods in agreement. "Make sure to treat her right Frye! Octos are sensitive!" Pearl Called out. Making the rest of them flare up in bright bushes. "Pearlie!!!" Was the last thing Shiver and Frye heard as the door slammed behind them.
"That was more fun then I thought." Frye walked with a little pep in her step, making it hard for Shiver to keep up. "Was it not good enough before?" She remarked. "What?! Of course it was! I just didn't expect to get into a rap battle with my gorgeous girlfriend singing beside me. You know I love your voice." Frye cooed into Shiver's ear. "Frye?"
The Inkling stood up straight as Shiver took a step in front. "Are you alright Shiver?"
Said Octoling looked down as she took hold of Frye's clammy hands. "Frye, I had a good time tonight."
"Me too."
"It might be a bit early but... Frye I think I'm in love with you. You're voice is like music to my ears, you're touch makes me weak in the knees, and there is just so much more I could list off but that could take forever. I would love to hang out like this more often, if you don't mind my company."
Frye's gaze softened as she pulled her companion into her arms. "Shiver, of course we can! You didn't have to butter me up. I would do anything for you. I love you Shiver, no doubt to be had."
"You really mean that? Or are you trying to outshine me?" Shiver lifted a brow playfully.
"I don't just kiss anyone, and no one can outshine you." The inkling leaned in slowly and when Shiver closed her eyes, Frye filled in the open space. Placing a firm but loving kiss on the Octoling's perfect pink lips. A cold hand slid behind the taller one's head to gently pull her impossibly closer. Her sharp pointy ears flutter with excitement. 'I could get use to this.' They both thought as the moon shown above them. Shiver was the one to pull away. "Now let's eat this cake before I forget about it." Shiver pulled the Togo box out of her inventory as Frye continued to cling onto her. "Feed me?" The inkling teased. "Mmm~ alright, but let's sit down." Shiver slipped out of the hold. "Wait! You mean it?!"
"Don't make me change my mind."
"Coming my love!"
~The End?~
