Comet Tiamet soared happily through the sky. He had been away from Earth for a while, and he had started to miss it. As he glided through the atmosphere, he noticed the little humans looking up at him, admiring his ethereal beauty and filming him. "Ooh, I hope they get my good side," he thought.

Out in space, there were no living creatures to admire a comet's beauty. Space is empty and lonely. How he wished he could tell those adventurous humans that their dreams of exploring the universe and meeting alien life were all vanity. Couldn't they see that Earth was the best place to be? If he was a human, he would stay on Earth forever.

He rolled and sparkled for the humans. It filled him with joy to have so many people watching him this time. Last time he had passed by Earth, they had all been asleep and had completely missed out on his light show. Tragically, they were too distracted by the fall of Rome to pay much attention to him. "Nations come and go," he thought. "But a comet's beauty will stay with you forever."

"Papa, can we not stay with Earth longer?" said Tiamet's son, Chuck.

"No, Chuck," replied Tiamet. "Our place is in the cosmos. Earth may be the most dear place in the universe for us, but we must not deceive ourselves into thinking we belong here."

"But... It's not just the Earth..."

Tiamet noticed his son blushing. He looked directly down. They were passing over the sleepy little town of Itomori. In direct view of the comets was a beautiful young human girl. "So! My son is in love with a human!"

Chuck looked so despondent that Tiamet could not refuse him. "Very well, Chuck. But know this: you will be unable to return to me and to the cosmos. You will become a part of the Earth. Do you understand?"

"I do, Father. But a life without love is unbearable!"

"I understand, my son. Then you may go."

Tiamet embraced his son, Chuck, and released him to drop to Earth. Chuck twirled and somersaulted in midair as he fell towards the town of Itomori. The humans were in awe of Chuck's beauty, and it made Tiamet proud.

"I know you will bring everyone much joy on Earth, my son," said Tiamet as he continued on his heavenly trajectory.

Finally, Tiamet concluded his flight above Earth and made his way back through the solar system. "I will return in another thousand years," he thought. "I look forward to seeing how Chuck adjusts to living on Earth."
