" I can't believe that something this beautiful exists in the bayou," Elena exclaimed as she still looked around in wonder, it was a beautiful place indeed.
" I know, I was surprised myself when I found it." Diego said, " Shall we leave now?"
" No problem," Elena assured, " I loved it. I think I will come here again,"
He chuckled at that and said," Me too."
" Ahhh" Elena screamed suddenly, Diego was immediately cautious as he smelled blood,
" What happened?"
" I don't know, I just felt a prickle on my neck," Elena said, as she glanced sideways and saw veins appearing on her partner's face, " I think it is nothing must be something sharp that fell from the trees."
" Let's leave from here, I have study to do,"
" Ah, yes still a college student," Diego said teasingly apparently having gotten his blood lust back in control, " You didn't tell me where do you live," he said,
" Oh, I actually live with a friend, she does not fancy visitors and I will be kicked out if I bring back a boy older than me with me," Elena said calmly as they both trekked back to Diego's car all the while her mind was whirling with how Sophie must have got attacked.
"Try not to scare me again, will you? I thought something serious happened." Rebekah told Elena as she inspected the wound on her neck.
"I think this is Sophie related, that witch is not even careful when she knows she is linked to a pregnant woman."
"Do me a favor and don't die on my watch, I will never hear the end of it."
" My sincerest apologies if my being in pain has caused you any discomfort," Elena said sarcastically,
" No worries, I am doing this for family, Although it is time for the demons spawns to snack,"
" I really wish you wouldn't call them that," Elena said,
" I am sorry have you decided on another name yet, Take one of them, the plantation is lousy with them," Rebekah said, holding a basket of apples to her.
" Thanks, you know you are not as bad as I first thought you were," Elena said, biting into one of the apples,
" Well, that's sweet of you to say. Do remember to tell me nieces and nephews about me when I am gone,"
" So you are going away,"
" You don't seem surprised?"
" Because I am not, I thought that you would leave as soon as Elijah was undaggered, it was nice of you to stay for some more time, I did found a friend in you."
" I just, want to be free," Rebekah said as a way of explanation,
" And there is nothing wrong with that. There is one more thing I have to say to you, I am sorry for daggering you and pretending to be your friend. I never really apologized for that." Before Rebekah could say anything in reply, Elena groaned and put her head in her hands the apple dropping,
" What happened?" Rebekah asked crouching down beside her and putting a hand on her forehead
" I don't know, morning sickness," Elena said,
" Oh no you are burning up actually," Rebekah replied looking quite concerned and worried.
"What happened?" Elijah asked Sabine as he gave her a hand which she helped herself to get up while Klaus watched from the door looking quite impatient.
"It was Agnes," Sabine replies with a grimace. "Her men took Sophie."
"Day one in charge, brother, and already the witch link to Elena has been abducted by zealots," Klaus commented.
"Where is she?" Elijah asked, not looking amused.
Sabine shakes her head. "If I tell you where Agnes is, you'll just kill her."
"Oh, is it that obvious?" Klaus questioned
"Look. I know she's a little cuckoo, but she's our last living elder. That might not mean a lot to you but it means plenty to us. The elders are the only ones who can do important spells."
"Like completing the Harvest ritual?" Elijah stated.
Sabine's eyes widened and she questioned, "You know about that?"
"Oh, You'd be astounded by the things I know," Elijah replied.
" Allow me to entertain with today's list of priorities," Klaus began as he walked into the kitchen in a way some might call casual but to someone who knew him it was every bit the stance of a predator with his prey, " Number one - Unlink your friend Sophie so she no longer controls the fate of the woman carrying my children. Two, convince my brother to accept my heartfelt apology for some recently dodgy behavior. Three," here Klaus looked up and pretended to think," there is no number three."
"I believe what my brother is attempting to communicate here is that neither the life of this elder nor the Harvest ritual nor your coven's connection to magic is of any relevance to him whatsoever. Now talk."
Klaus cannot guarantee he won't lose his temper and do something which he will terribly regret if his hands get anywhere within reach of Sophie Deveraux, so he stands back and lets Elijah break her free of the chains Agnes put her in. Aside from having been a little roughed up by her fellow witches as they dragged her here and immobilized her with the chains, Sophie looks fine. This makes no sense as their younger sister had informed them that Elena's fever is getting worse and worse.
"Agnes stuck me with a needle," Sophie explains, rubbing her bruised wrists. " Cursed objects were created a long time ago we use them so we don't get busted by Marcel for doing magic. The one she used is called the needle of sorrows. It was cursed in 1860 when "
"Jump ahead a few decades and tell us what it does love?" Klaus asked impatiently.
"It has one purpose to kills a child in utero by raising her blood temperature."
"It's for a miscarriage." Elijah deduced. Sophie nodded weakly as Klaus tries to control his temper,
" So how much time do we have to fix this?" Elijah asks, keeping his voice cool. But Klaus can see the worried lines on his forehead, the way his shoulders tense. His brother is about to snap, too. These witches are playing with fire.
"It'll do what it's meant to by tonight's high tide," Sophie explains. "And believe me, it will work. I saw her use a similar object on a kid who went mad and killed a bunch of priests." On hearing, this Klaus seemed to have lost his battle against restraining himself and moved towards Sophie,
" I would like to have a little chat with this Agnes, Where can I find her?" Klaus asked.
"You can't. There are a thousand places she could hole up to wait it out." Sophie replied as if it was obvious
. "That's precisely why we need to unlink you from Elena. No more putting her or the child in danger."
"What? No!" Sophie protested, standing to her feet. "If I'm not linked to Elena, I lose my leverage on you. We had a deal."
"We are not on the same side, Sophie Deveraux. Our deal no longer stands," Elijah said, his voice gaining a dangerous undertone as both the vampires left the place. It was only when they were outside did Elijah gave Klaus the piece of paper Elena had given him earlier who took it and went in search of Agnes intending on using the human faction to make his passageway to her easier and to even avenge Camille.
While Davina struggled to perform the unlinking spell, Rebekah on the other hand took care of a very ill Elena,
"Stop fussing, will you? " Rebekah said, trying to lower her temperature by sponging her as Elena tried to draw in a few shaky breaths, "Elijah will be here at any minute," she said.
" I feel like I have been microwaved," Elena said weakly trying to take deep breaths,
"Just because you're carrying a baby, doesn't mean you get to act like one. I am sure my little niece is healing you up as we speak." Rebekah said as she tried to stay positive something she wasn't good at. Elijah suddenly burst into the room along with the witch as Rebekah got up from the bed and watched her brother looking at Elena's state with worry.
"What the hell is she doing here?" Rebekah demanded when she noticed Sophie Deveraux.
"I'm trying to help," Sophie replied
"Help?" Rebekah asked incredulously," You're the reason we're in this bloody mess," she spits out, then turning to Elijah like her brother has gone completely insane. "Why aren't we unlinked with this witch already, Elijah?" she demanded.
"Rebekah let her do what she can," Elijah said his voice thick with tension and it was enough that Rebekah remained quiet.
"I may know a way to slow the fever down, but I'm gonna need some special herbs. I'll text you a list," she told Rebekah who looked angry and ready to protest when she notices the silent plea on Elijah's face and Elena's struggled breaths,
"Fine. Happy to play the fetch girl," she said bitterly and rushed out of the room but not before pushing the towel she was holding in her hand to her brother a gesture that expressed her displeasure rather acutely.
Elena tries to not pass out as she sits beside the edge of the pool taking deep breathes willing herself to be strong for the babies but she knows she is fighting a losing battle as she struggles to breathe. Somewhere in the back of her mind she prays to whatever deity she remembers, she had already lost her family she couldn't lose her children too,
"She's burning up," Elena hears Elijah say from somewhere behind the back of her head, "We need to do this now." and there is a rustling of fabric and a gentle hand touching her back before she hears the sound of water splashing as Elijah jumps up in the pool,
"Get her in the water," Sophie commands.
And the original brother helps Elena to get in the water who is now barely conscious. She goes without a hint of a protest, as though she's hardly controlling her body anymore.
"How's a midnight swim supposed to help here?" Rebekah asked, partly to distract herself and partly because she was confused.
"Her temperature is sky high, and the water, with the help of the herbs, should cool us down."
Sophie transfers the herbs into a different bowl, mixes them with water, and then jumps in the pool after them. "Here," she says, pushing the bowl to Elena's lips. "Drink this." Elena obliges with the command and swallows it. However, after a moment starts coughing up blood.
" Why is this happening?" Elijah asked, desperately
" She is just human her body cannot deal with all this. You are gonna have to get her heart rate down."
"And how do you suggest I do that?" Elijah asks, sounding clearly annoyed.
"Hold her. It's a natural human remedy to slow the heart rate and reduce blood pressure."
Sophie stopped what she was saying as Elena began screaming clinging to Elijah as blood started coming out of her mouth down on the crystal clear water,
"This is never going to work," Rebekah muttered as the last shreds of hope she was clinging to begin to dissipate and she feared that tonight there will be three lives lost two of the unborn Mikaelson children, and one of the last remaining alive female of the Petrova bloodline.
"Davina will break that link", Elijah says, but he might be trying to convince himself more than Rebekah as he looked at the state of the girl in his arms, " We just need time." But unfortunately, time was something they both didn't have.
