Flashback to September
The women had closed on a house before the girls birthdays, and when they got home from celebrating Harper's first birthday, they moved in. It was still close to work, but more importantly it was perfect for their family. The house had five bedrooms on the second floor, the master bedroom, one for each girl, and one they would make into the nursery; of course the babies would be sleeping with the mothers for a while, but the nursery would be ready for the twins when they ready. On the first level there were two guest bedrooms, a living room, dining room, a home office and a huge playroom. There was a three car garage with top of the line security: with four babies and a wife Casey spared no expense to protect her family.
The kitchen was absolutely incredible, Alex thought the penthouse kitchen was a chef's dream, but this was something else—the open floor plan was perfect for the family, they'd always be able to see the girls running around and entertain their guests. They could keep the breakfast bar as they had another kitchen island, but this one had a waterfall island that was a beautiful grey and white marble. The breakfast nook would perfectly fit their kitchen table, and overlooked the little backyard they had—it was enclosed, and although it wasn't the most amount of space in the world, it would be enough for a playset for the girls to play and run around in. Plus, Charlotte would be starting preschool soon—and with the winters, they wouldn't be outside all year round. Casey and Alex were planning the move with Charlotte starting preschool intentionally—by the time they were settled in their new home and comfortable, it would be time for preschool. They weren't starting her out full time right away, three half days until she was ready to go, and then she'd go for five half days for the rest of the year.
Casey was thinking about Charlotte's first day when she was pulled from her thoughts, "Babe?"
"Hmm?" She had been putting her feet up for a few minutes when Alex called out to her, the girls were down for their nap and Alex had been unpacking another box.
"Penny for your thoughts?" Alex said, sitting down on the couch next to her. They had hired professional movers to disassemble, and reassemble even the simplest of things, and Alex didn't know how much of a difference it would make until they walked into the house and saw everything all put together for them.
"Just thinking about Wednesday," Casey sighed. Today was Friday and their first night in their new home; although they could have started Charlotte on Monday, they elected to wait. It was the parents choice and they were welcome to start any day between Monday and Friday but with Charlotte only doing MWF, they choose Wednesday.
"She's going to do great, babe," Alex said, kissing her wife placing a hand on her swollen belly.
"I know, I'm just—it's my hormones. She's our first born, Lex," Casey said, wiping the tears away god these fucking hormones suck, just stop already! Casey cursed. "I know it sounds silly, but—"
Alex stopped her, "It doesn't sound silly, honey. I know exactly what you mean. I had the same conversation with my dad earlier when we went grocery shopping. I actually cried in the damn produce isle," Alex said, and Casey laughed. "Oh thanks, I didn't laugh at you."
"I'm not laughing because you cried, sweetie," Casey pulled Alex back when she tried to get up. "It's the way you said it, damn produce isle. It's like you're blaming the produce," she laughed, causing Alex to laugh as well.
"Well I tried to blame my dad but he wasn't having it, so then I blamed the strawberries I was holding because well, they're Charlotte's favorite, so yes! I'm blaming the damn produce isle!"
Casey wrapped her arms around Alex and couldn't help but smile, "God I love you, Lex."
Wednesday came and the family got up and ready for the day—nerves were running high, but Charlotte seemed to be very excited. She knew her little friend Ayla from her playgroup was going to be at preschool and she'd get to 'pway with her' all day long, so she was happy about that. Unfortunately, Ellie, their other friend, was attending a different preschool, but maybe they'd go to the same kindergarten next year. They dressed Charlotte in a pink button-front corduroy dress with a white t-shirt underneath—matching pink shoes, ruffle white socks, and pink bows. Casey had already informed her preschool teacher of Charlotte's size ahead of time—she didn't think 4 year olds would know how to pick on others yet, but she knew how adults could act, and so help the person who says something about her child—especially while she's pregnant.
After a yummy breakfast of crepes, they headed out the door to preschool—Casey trying to keep her hormones in check. "Momma can I bring el'phant too?" Charlotte asked from the backseat holding up her pink stuffed animal. Since day one, she never went anywhere without it—that and the blanket they got for her, but she really preferred her elephant.
"Yes baby, you can bring your elephant but don't lose it okay?" They already okayed it with her teacher who said the kids are allowed to bring two personal items from home as they only had a class of 10 with a teacher and a helper, and they stamped her name into the tag on both items, along with a lunch box that had a snack and sippy cup. Or as Charlotte would say, 'big dirl tup' because she's now too old for a sippy cup, which is true and they aren't sippy cups, but the phrase comes out easier than 'cup of water' to her.
"Otay momma."
They expected a few tears or for her to have a little bit of trouble saying goodbye; what they didn't expect was for their daughter to burst into full on hysterics and attach herself to Casey's leg and not let go. Alex tried to help, but she also didn't want to scare Harper who was watching her sister breakdown, so Casey told her to take her to the car. "Charlotte baby, you need to breathe for me baby," Casey said trying to soothe her daughter as she continued to scream.
Finally Charlotte let Casey pick her up and climbed up her mothers body impossibly close burying her body into Casey's neck and seeking comfort in playing with her necklace. Casey rubbed small circles on her back, "Deep breaths baby, there we go. Shh, shh, shh, momma's here sweet girl." The main teacher had come out to check on them again and Casey just mouthed 'we're okay' when she asked if they needed anything.
"You're going to have so much fun here baby. You get to meet new friends, and play with Ayla—don't you remember what we were talking about last night?" Charlotte nodded against Casey's chest. "How about I read you a quick story then you can go play with your new friends?"
Two stories later, Casey was leaving the preschool meeting her wife and daughter in the car—she peeked into the back seat and was thankful to see Harper had fallen asleep, "Fuck, that was—" tears just flowed.
Alex frowned knowing the emotional toll that took on her wife; at first Charlotte seemed like she really wanted to be there, and then she realized her mothers were leaving and that's when she lost it. Alex had walked out first because of Harper, Casey was just one step behind, but that one step was all it took for Charlotte to catch up and wrap her little body around her leg. "I'm so sorry babe, I wish I could have done more. I should have planned this better, had my parents come over to watch Harper."
"No, it's fine honey. Why don't we go home—it's a good thing we only live 15 minutes and I'm pregnant away otherwise I'd sit here until she was done."
Alex laughed then leaned over the console to kiss her wife—they drove home with their hands linked together: it's official, they have a little girl in school.
End of Flashback
It was now December 23rd and the Novak's were throwing a Christmas party—Casey was having it catered because she was 1 month and 1 day away from her due date, but with twins and being so small, Dr. Nickles was preparing the mothers for her to deliver early.
'Early? What do you mean early? No they need to stay in there and grow!' –was how Alex responded to the news. Casey was more than happy to hear the news as her back pain was getting worse and worse.
Alexander and Liz had offered to move in, but the mothers said it wasn't necessary. They are however staying for the holidays which will be nice so the girls can wake up with grandma and grandpa on Christmas Eve and Christmas morning. Liz and Alexander will be taking at least a week off after the twins are born to help with Charlotte and Harper—Emily hasn't gone anywhere, but they want to soak up all the baby love too and being in the house and helping won't hurt. It isn't everyday mothers jump from 2 children to 4, so extra hands won't get turned down.
They decided to have the Christmas party on the 23rd this year because the Novak's were hoping for a somewhat peaceful last holiday as a family of four—but didn't want to break the tradition they had of having their family and friends over; so here they were, entertaining a house full of guests. The party was underway and Alex caught Casey from across the room and couldn't help but smile—she looked stunning: 8 months pregnant wearing a burgundy ruched fitted front bow maternity dress with Harper on her hip laughing at something Fin was saying.
Abbie came up behind Alex and followed her gaze, "Damn woman, you got it bad."
Alex turned towards the brunette and laughed, "Hey Abbie, Merry Christmas. Where's your better half?"
"Right here," Serena said, also looking at Casey, "God Casey makes pregnancy look so good. Abbie why'd you knock me up with satan's spawn child?" Abbie's jaw dropped open and said nothing.
"Aww honey, you look great," Alex said, punching Abbie's arm. "RIGHT Abigail?" Alex gritted through her teeth.
The formal name kicked the brunette into gear again and Abbie recovered, "Yes baby, you look beautiful. So beautiful, like the most beautiful woman in the whole entire world beautiful."
Serena rolled her eyes, she was three months pregnant but her body wasn't doing so hot—morning sickness wasn't so kind to her, her mood swings were so awful she called the doctor herself, food aversions were so bad Abbie had to brush her teeth two times before kissing her, and the migraines had just stopped as she reached her second trimester. Casey and Alex felt awful for her but tried to explain in the end, getting to hold their baby would make up for everything.
Addison and Johnathan walked over and Abbie was very thankful for the fact Serena was now preoccupied by Addison's new accessory to remember how 'unflattering' she is. Johnathan proposed in September with a little bit of help from Casey and Alex, but hey, what are sisters for right? He asked to use their house in the Hamptons because it was truly one of their favorite vacation spots—like his sisters, he and Addison work very busy schedules and they don't have a lot of time to get away but when they do, going to the Hamptons is quick, easy and also a really beautiful place to go.
When Casey and Alex bought their house, it was a slice of heaven because even if they were up there too, there was plenty of space to seclude themselves: not that they wanted to anyways. But they got to utilize the house all the time, to the point where Johnathan asked them if he should pay them rent which made for a really funny conversation.
Anyways, to propose he went up to the beach house and set everything up before hand letting in his two most trusted friends. It's not as if he didn't trust his friends with the passcode, but he made a promise to his sisters to not give it to anyone for the sake of protecting his nieces and he never would. Plus, he wanted to set everything up himself—so they worked all day to set it up, and then he went back into the city while his friends went to hang out on the beach. He text them when he and Addison were coming back up which was later in the day—it was planned perfectly so that all his friends would need to do when he sent the final text would be to light the candles in the sand and run off to their car. Luckily the beach had another entrance which wasn't too far away, and it wasn't that late to where it was dark—there were rose petals in the sand in a heart shape with the letters J a plus sign and an A.
Addison didn't expect it at all, she just thought they were going for a weekend away, and was completely swept off her feet; she said yes then Johnathan literally lifted her into the air spinning her around. He realized then and there his sisters' words to be true, it didn't matter what he did, all that mattered was their love for each other. Alex loved hearing the story no matter how many times it was told, and seeing the reactions from their friends—she was listening intently until she saw her wife out of the corner of her eye.
Casey excused herself from Fin and Melinda and signaled for Alex to come closer, "You okay babe?" she questioned seeing Casey pressing on her belly.
Casey handed Harper to her wife, "Braxton hicks, and Harper is ow," Casey winced.
Harper signed hungry to Alex but the blonde missed it because she was so focused on her wife who was clearly in pain, "Casey!" she exclaimed. Alex put her hand on the redheads arm trying to steady her, as Casey hunched over.
Charlotte stopped playing with her toys and ran over to her mother and looked up, "Momma otay?"
"Momma's okay baby," Casey said, running her fingers through her daughters hair. She wasn't aware that everyone who was in the living room now had their eyes trained on her and the conversations had stopped.
The amount of police officers and doctors in their home was unreal and Alex's nerves should have been calmed down immensely, but they weren't. She knew Casey was just trying to make Charlotte feel better, but she wasn't okay. Alex turned and passed Harper to the first person who had their arms open, then focused back on her wife. "Honey you need to sit down."
"I'm fine, Lex. I think I was just standing too long, I'm okay really," Casey didn't want to make a big deal out of things especially in front of everyone at the party. She already felt badly considering they were hosting, and all eyes were now on here; she also didn't want to worry Charlotte.
Alex wasn't having it and saw Fin appear in front of her, "Can you get her some water please?"
"Sure thing baby girl, I'll be right back," Fin disappeared into the kitchen and went to get some water, he would do anything for his 'sisters'.
"Momma's tummy hurtin?" Charlotte asked, pointing to Casey's stomach, looking up at Alex. Casey's eyes were shut and she was rubbing her belly steadying her breathing—now it just felt like really bad back pain again.
"Yeah baby, can you do me a really big favor?" Alex asked, and Charlotte nodded. "I was going to make you a plate of food to put in your belly," Alex poked Charlotte's stomach causing her to giggle, "but right now I need to take care of momma, so do you think you can go with Uncle Johnathan and eat some dinner?"
"Otay mommy, but you havta take weally good care of momma! Pomise?" her green eyes sparkling bright up at Alex, long lashes and all.
"I promise baby," Alex said, placing a kiss to the top of Charlotte's head and saying a silent thanks to her brother.
Johnathan lifted the little girl up and Charlotte squealed, "Untle Jomfin!" as he picked her up and threw her in the air. Harper was taken by her mother, and she hadn't even realized when passing her back—but that worked out well. Fin came in with some water, and Addison was now in front of Casey asking her questions about how she was feeling.
Everyone else had cleared the room to give them some privacy and Casey felt awful for ruining the party—they all assured her she hadn't done that whatsoever, she is the one pregnant with twins, and she's the one who provided food for everyone.
"I really think it's just Braxton hicks—nothing more. I feel fine now that I've sat down," Casey looked over at Alex and cupped her cheek, "I'm sorry I worried you sweetie, I'm okay."
Addison nodded, she didn't think there was any reason to worry right now—convincing Alex of that was a different story, but she was eventually able to. "I'm just so worried," Alex said after Addison went in to make herself a plate.
"I know Lex, but ready or not these babies are coming within the next month," Casey laughed, then held her stomach as Alex's eyes went wide with fear. "Relax, I just have to pee."
"Oh thank god," Alex laughed as well. "Well, let me help you up then."
Casey went off to the bathroom and Alex went into the dining room to check on her girls, "Momma otay?"
"Yes baby girl, she's okay," Alex smiled and placed a kiss to the top of her head, "she just has to go potty," she whispered into Charlotte's ear knowing her next question would be 'where's momma?' and the rest of the dinner guests didn't need to know that. Charlotte giggled and looked up at her mother.
Alexander winked at his daughter, he knew the stress this pregnancy was recently causing his daughter as they spoke about it almost everyday this past month—since Alex found out the babies would most likely come early his daughter has been a nervous wreck. Casey has always been a godsend to her, but since hearing that news, more so than ever—being her voice of reason, her everything. Casey is the one carrying the twins, yet Alex is more concerned about the early birth than she is. Although, they are both worried about what it means for the twins health—Casey listened to what Dr. Nickles has said though, when she suggested she stop going into work completely, she did—stop driving, she did, anything to keep the babies healthy.
Dinner went by well, everyone enjoyed the meal and desserts that were served. Presents were to follow for the kids, the Stabler children along with Charlotte and Harper while the adults did a Yankee swap. About halfway through, both Novak girls were crashing and the mothers could tell. Elliot's kids were much older and were preoccupied by opening what Casey and Alex had gotten then, but Maureen and Kathleen each brought the girls over to their mothers and thanked them for the gifts they received, clothes and some gift cards as they were older now.
Casey kissed the top of Harper's head and brushed a strand of hair out of her face cuddling the baby into her body the best she could against her pregnant belly; Charlotte immediately curled into Alex's arms and started to play with her mothers necklace burying her face into her neck, chest against chest. It was 6:50pm and the girls had staggered bedtimes, 7:00pm and 7:30pm, but they had a long day and were both sleepy now. That being said, they could both sleep through anything and the mothers were happy to be surrounded by their family and friends knowing they'd be able to relax for the next few days so Alex and Casey let them sleep in their laps.
Once everyone was gone, the mothers put the girls to bed and were both thankful for the fact there wasn't much of a cleanup. Catered parties meant minimal cleanup after—no dishes, no leftovers as Casey and Alex made sure to send everything home with whoever wanted it, Elliot and Kathy put their children in charge of picking up wrapping paper from their gifts and the Yankee swap so there wasn't anything there to worry about there, it was just straightening up the blankets and pillows the way they liked them. They said goodnight to Alexander and Liz, then headed off to bed themselves. It was truly a fantastic night surrounded by the ones they loved the most.
Christmas morning had arrived and Alex knew this because it was 5:00am and Casey was wide awake.
"Casey, I swear to god you better have a good reason for waking me up so early. You are not exempt from the rule of not waking up before the babies just because it's Christmas," Alex grumbled, not opening her eyes. If Casey was in labor, she would be up in a heartbeat and there would be much more noise—but right now, there wasn't any noise—she just felt light kiss to her cheek.
Casey was standing on Alex's side of the bed and pushed a strand of hair away, planting a kiss next to her ear then husked, "Santa came early for you…"
Alex's eyes opened her jaw went slack, and her mouth went dry at the sight before her—Casey was in front of her wearing a red maternity floral lace tie front sheer robe lingerie set, with skimpy thong underneath. "Merry Christmas to ME!" Alex said, flinging back the covers and holding out her hands. "Oh my god! Wait, I need to take some pictures of you, fuck this should be illegal."
"Lex, my hormones don't have time for you to take photos," Casey said, pushing the blonde back down on the bed, "Plus, I already did," she whispered before capturing her lips.
Alex groaned god I fucking love my wife. Casey straddled the blonde and kissed down her neck the best she could with her belly getting in the way—nibbling when she hit Alex's weak spot. Alex moaned and arched into her wife, her hands finding their way towards Casey's breasts that, as she predicted only got bigger and more sensitive as her pregnancy went on which the blonde loved. Casey tipped her head back not being able to control it, a rush of wetness filling the tiny thong she had put on for her wife. God why did I even bother with that? Now it's just in the way. She felt her wife's hand traveling to where she really wanted it, "Please Lex," she said breathily. "I need you, baby."
They switched positions, Alex quickly stripping Casey of the thong but wanting to keep the lingerie on then spread her legs to take in the site of her beautiful wife, "Fuck you're beautiful," Alex breathed out, placing a lingering kiss as Casey whimpered.
Alex continued to kiss her, slowly dragging her fingers through her wife's wet folds; Casey bucked into the touch and grabbed onto the blonde for support. Alex gathered some of the wetness and brought it up to Casey's swollen bud circling around it using a light pressure; she knew it would almost bring her wife there, but would drive her wife crazy because it wouldn't be quite enough.
"Lex, please, I need more," Casey was writhing beneath the blonde.
"Tell me how you want it baby," the husk in Alex's voice sent another wave of anticipation through Casey.
"Fuck me Alexandra!"
Alex couldn't help but groan, she nearly came from hearing her wife use her full name in bed and wasted no time pushing three fingers into her wife while circling her clit. Casey arched her back a high pitch moan escaping—Alex curled her fingers as she picked up her pace, "Don't stop, oh god fuck! Just like that!"
"Cum for me baby," and just like that, Casey came, screaming out in pleasure while Alex helped her ride out her orgasm, then crashed their lips together once she settled. "I love you babe."
"I love you too, Lex." When she recovered fully, she was able to show Alex just how much. "So umm—"
"You don't have to honey, you're carrying two tiny humans," Alex smiled.
Casey rolled her eyes, "What I was going to say so it's been a while since we've done this particular position but how would you feel about sitting on my face?" she smirked.
Alex choked on her own saliva. "Yes Lex, you heard me correctly now come on," Casey encouraged tapping her wife's thigh. The blonde wasted no time and carefully straddled her wife's face, there's no way of hurting her this way she thought to herself.
She wasn't given much to time to think because Casey had already began greedily exploring every inch of her center. She wrapped her mouth around her wife's clit sucking lightly, "Oh fuck!" Alex screamed, gripping the headboard, she knew she wouldn't last long because she was still soaked from the second she saw Casey in the lingerie.
Casey smiled with pride against Alex's hot wet entrance bringing one hand up toying with the outside of her entrance, never entering fully. Every time Casey put her fingers in, Alex would use her inner muscles to pull them in deeper, but she wouldn't give in; Casey teased her entrance, her mouth never leaving her clit. All at once, Casey slammed three fingers into Alex setting a fast unrelenting pace that her wife loved to much.
"Oh god!" Alex cried out loudly, "Fuck! Don't stop baby, fuck, fuck right there yes, yes, yes!" Alex was metaphorically falling and Casey was right there to catch her. Alex twitched as she came down for her high then fell to the side mindful to not hurt her wife on the way down, "Oh my fucking god."
Casey rolled to her side and crashed their mouths together, Alex moaned at the taste of herself, "Merry Christmas beautiful."
"Merry Christmas baby," Alex smiled into the kiss.
They quickly changed getting into their Christmas pjs, and 'pretended' to be sleeping when Charlotte came running into their bedroom at 6:15am. She no longer wakes up at 4am, but without a doubt is in her mothers bed every morning at 6:15am wanting to snuggle. Sometimes she even sneaks her way into bed with them and get under the covers trying not to wake them, although they do wake up and pull her close.
It may have been a rushed morning of making love, but hey, they'll take it because they had plenty of it the night before. Harper slept until 7am requiring a full twelve hours of sleep which gave the mothers an extra 45 minutes with Charlotte a day—until the twins come. So for now, it was just the mothers and Charlotte per usual.
"It's Chrismis!" Charlotte squealed jumping on the bed. Last night they told Charlotte she could come in and jump on their bed, being careful of momma's belly of course.
Casey couldn't keep up the pretending anymore when Charlotte kissed her cheek and caught the little girl off guard when the redhead wrapped her arms around her "Merry Christmas baby girl!"
"MOMMA! You scareded me!" she laughed, then felt Alex pull her close and tickle her sides, "Merry Christmas sweetie, did you really think we could sleep with you jumping on the bed like a little monkey?"
Charlotte continued to laugh as Alex tickled her sides and Casey got off the bed again groaning, "Babies, give my bladder a break."
Charlotte was straddling Alex's stomach looking into her mothers eyes and smiling. "Mommy I'm firsty pease, can we go downstairs and eat pease?" she asked, her little hands in the blondes as she raised them to her lips to kiss them both.
Alex kissed Charlotte's hands and nodded, "I know baby, we can go make some breakfast once momma goes potty." Since moving into their new house, she loved the fact their refrigerator had a water dispenser inside of it and that she could 'press da button' to fill her own water bottle—it was one of her favorite things to do, and every morning she looked forward to it. The simple things, right?
Casey came out of the bathroom and smiled seeing Alex and Charlotte together in their matching Christmas pjs, it was absolutely adorable. It was earlier than Harper normally woke, and Casey didn't want to mess with her routine knowing they could block Charlotte's view of Santa's presents they had left out and keep her busy until she ate. "Already Charlotte, are you ready for some breakfast little miss?"
"YES!" she screamed, her body buzzing with excitement; she loved her food, but doesn't eat much of it—still drinking two pediasures a day, three meals sometimes even three snacks, she just has so much energy she burns it all off. Dr. Molly has run another set of her own tests and the mothers have even seen two different specialists who have given her a clean bill of health, she's just small wearing her 24month clothing proudly and bouncing around like a jumping bean. Harper is tiny too, wearing 9-12 months at 18 months now—they are bound to have little babies with their sizes, both women are very tall but small.
"Okay sweet girl, let's go!" Alex said, lifting her in the air and off the bed loving the fact that the girls pjs were zip up onesies that matched their own, these jammies are just so dang cute! Alex carried her downstairs covering her eyes so she couldn't see the unwrapped presents Santa left out for her, then took her into the kitchen where they found Liz and Alexander already waiting.
The four of them made breakfast and Charlotte told them how excited she was for Harper to open the presents she picked out for her, it was so adorable—Alex and Casey had taken her shopping after one of her OB appointments to pick out a few gifts for her sister, and it was the 'bestest day'. She couldn't wait to see how excited Harper got when she opened them; each mothers also took her out to get presents for the other as well, but she wasn't allowed to talk about those gifts because they were sitting right there with her at the table. Alex also shopped for the grandparents while they were out, which Charlotte was excited about as well—she may not be huge on getting gifts, but she sure did love giving them. However, the mothers were really hoping she would love her gift from Santa this year especially because it would be a huge transition for her when the twins came. Harper was always laid back, even when she was a newborn, but with another baby and especially two, the mothers couldn't be so sure—this gift could really be great for Charlotte.
Harper woke up and once she ate, the mothers led the girls into the living room hearing Charlotte gasp when she was met with her big Santa gift. She squealed then looked up at Casey and Alex, who both nodded and ran up to the it: a beautiful white teepee tent for kids with a padded mat for comfort, pink pillows inside, there was a little rainbow dream catcher hanging off of it, but the dream catcher was the actual shape of the rainbow that made it that much cuter. Inside the teepee there were little pockets that held new books on one side, and on the other were two new stuffed animals—it could be closed if she wanted it to be, but also opened as well. It was her perfect little 'Charlotte's space' and she ran right inside looking around, pulling out her favorite book, 'Baby Star'. They had two copies of the book already but they purchased another just for her teepee.
"Hawrp come read wif me!" she smiled, waving her sister over. Harper smiled and pitter pattered over to her sister, nearly falling on top of her. Alex and Casey loved how Charlotte called Harper a nickname, 'Harp' was perfect—the mothers said it as well, it was adorable, the r sounding more like a w but she was getting there.
Alex wrapped her arms around Casey's belly gently lifting to relieve the weight as she did so often, hearing her wife sigh as the redhead tipped her head back onto her shoulder, "It seems like this is as far as we're getting into presents for a while," Alex said.
"That's fine," Casey hummed, not being able to think now that her wife's hands were working their magic on her belly.
Alexander and Liz just smiled from their seat on the couch—their granddaughters were huddled together in the teepee, and their daughters were lost in their own world. "Casey honey, are you in a lot of pain?" Liz asked.
"Nothing more than usual, Liz," Casey turned to smile at her mother-in-law. Alex released her wife's stomach and led her over to the couch so they could sit down then massaged her lower back; she was doing everything she could to help her feel better and relieve some of the pain—it wasn't this bad with Harper, but there was only one baby. Casey keeps telling her 'it's fine, Lex—I'll take all the pain in the world because it will be worth it in the end' but it doesn't make her feel any better seeing her wife in pain.
Liz frowned, she knew what it was like to carry a baby, but not twins. "Sweetheart, why don't you pass out some presents for everyone," she said, tapping her husbands leg. There was a Christmas movie already playing in the background, everyone had coffee, juice, or water—and presents were being handed out. The girls were still preoccupied in the teepee looking at books, giggling about something only they knew, but that made it so much more perfect.
Soon enough, Alex was able coax them out so they could open some more presents—they only opened three gifts each before Johnathan and Addison came over, two more gifts before Emily and JJ rang the door bell; by nap time, there was a pile of unopened gifts and the mothers realized maybe next year they'd stick to Santa gifts only. Between the presents from Santa, grandma and grandpa, aunts, uncles, along with all their other friends and family, the girls got more than they knew what to do with. Their Christmas was amazing, Harper's favorite present was one of the toys her sister got her: a Fisher-Price laugh and learn smart stage teddy to 'teach Hawrp when I'm at school' is what Charlotte said. They spent most of the day in Charlotte's teepee snuggled up together, even opened some of their gifts in there as well. It was a great day: they relaxed, had yummy food, opened great presents, many laughs, lot of smiles, and an amazing last Christmas as a Novak family of four.
That night they all snuggled in Casey and Alex's bed to read a bedtime story together as both girls were exhausted after a day full of excitement; Harper snuggled in Alex's lap with her bottle, Charlotte in the middle of both her mothers snuggled against Casey's side with her little hand on her baby bump while drinking her sippy cup of warm milk.
"…no matter where you go, no matter where you are, no matter how big you grow, and even if you stray far, I'll love you forever, 'cause you'll always be my baby star."
Casey looked down to see that both girls had fallen asleep, Charlotte's hand still on her belly preventing her sippy cup from falling out of her mouth—Alex was running her fingers through Harper's silky hair placing kisses to the top of her head smiling at Casey.
"I can't believe we're going to have four babies soon," Alex whispered.
"Novak party of 6," Casey smiled.
January 7th 3:11am and the grandparents were being called in a panic. Casey wasn't panicking, but Alex was. Casey flashed back to her pregnancy with Harper, getting out of bed to pee but before she got to use the bathroom her water broke all over the floor and called out for her wife; Alex came flying into the bathroom, almost slipping in the process. Alex started the shower, raced out to get her phone to call her parents, then helped Casey wash her body: this was it—there babies were coming. OH MY GOD. How the hell is my wife so calm? She's about to give birth, and I'm the one freaking out. Alex was pulled from her thoughts when Casey cried out in pain.
"Ow fuckkk," she winced doubling over. Her hair had been tied up so it didn't get wet in the spray of the shower, god forbid my stunning wife looked any less perfect giving birth to our babies, but I'll do anything for her. She's doing the hard work here, not me, she said to herself as she blocked the spray of the shower as Casey was still doubled over. In actuality, it was really a simple request Casey had—'don't let my hair get wet, no matter what, I want to look somewhat human when our twins are born' but Alex couldn't get over the statement; her wife is drop dead gorgeous fresh out of the shower, she didn't need her hair still done from the day before. Woman.
Alex massaged her back, shaking her head of the thoughts racing through her own mind. "I'm here baby, I've got you," she soothed.
"Oh god Lex, it didn't hurt this much last time," Casey cried. Alex didn't know what else to do so she helped Casey out of the shower and dried her off, then sat her down on the bed, slowly dressing her. She knew the bags were already in the car ready for them to go, so she only had to focus on getting Casey out the door once her parents got there. Maybe we should have had my parents stay here, she thought as another contraction passed through.
"I'm sorry," Casey said, her hand gripping Alex's like a vice—she knew she was most likely hurting her wife but it hurt.
"Don't apologize baby, I wish there was something more I could do," Alex stood up after slipping on Casey's shoes and gave her a kiss. "Let me throw on some clothes and we'll head downstairs, my parents will be here any minute okay? I love you so much."
"I love you too, Lex."
Alex got dressed as fast as humanly possible then they stopped into the girls rooms quickly—Casey kissed her fingers and pressed them to Harper's head, and headed into Charlotte's room. When the moved, they upgraded her bed—it's still a toddler bed and has safety railings because she's so little, but it's now a little bigger, a matches her big girl room perfectly which still has her pastel rainbow theme. Casey carefully lowered herself, even though her body protested, and pressed a kiss to her forehead knowing she wouldn't see either of her little girls until after the babies were born.
Alex helped Casey up, and off they went down the stairs happy to see Liz and Alexander waiting there to greet them. "Don't worry about the girls, we have everything taken care of. We'll bring them whenever you give the word, even if it's to spend some time in Alexander's office for a while, he has plenty of their toys in there to play with—they can even sleep on the couch for a while. We all know how long giving birth can take," Liz smiled.
"Thank y-OW! Fu—" Casey winced again.
"Okay mom, that's enough we really need to go," Alex rushed out, starting to head for the door, her dad racing ahead to help. She helped her wife into the car, thanked her parents and off they went holding hands the entire way: the twins were really coming.
4:25am: Maternity Suite Room 704
"Well ladies it's a good thing you came in so quickly, I can see why you're in so much pain Casey you're already at 7cm," Dr. Nickles said when she finished checking Casey. Alex's eyes went wide and she looked at her wife, my god she's superhuman! I would have been screaming bloody freaking murder by now. "We can have the epidural administered now, okay?"
"That sounds perfect," Casey sighed in relief. Her and Alex knew it was possible she'd need a C-section, but the way Dr. Nickles was speaking, she would be fine. Of course Casey would do anything to keep the babies safe, but she would prefer to not go under the knife especially with two toddlers at home as well.
Alex held Casey's hands while she was given the epidural and was in awe again—when she watched it the first time with Harper, she almost couldn't believe it but this time it was just…she was speechless. Casey is the bravest woman she has ever met; she was put through hell as a child all up through her teen years and turned out to be the most amazing human—then continued to provide for others. She's done nothing but make Alex feel safe from day one, not only safe but loved, supported not just in general but of her dreams and of their life together. Once they met Charlotte she did everything to make sure they could provide her the best life possible consulting doctors and psychologists to make sure they were doing everything right for the little girl. Then Harper came, but their love was never divided because their was plenty of love for each of them—Casey told Alex you don't divide love, you share it. Just like her heart, it didn't split in two when Charlotte came into their lives, she shared her heart with Alex and Charlotte, and then Harper when she was born. Now, they are sharing their hearts again with the twins.
Casey looked up as the epidural was now done and saw her wife crying, "Honey what's wrong?"
"Nothing babe, I just love you so much," Alex leaned in and kissed her.
"I love you too, Lex."
6:07am "Alright Casey another big push," Dr. Nickles said.
Suddenly all of Casey's nerves hit her like a ton of bricks and she looked from Dr. Nickles to Alex, "I can't do it babe, I'm not strong enough. Nope, I can't do this, I changed my mind they need to stay in there I'm not ready yet."
"Case, baby you're doing great—we're both ready honey. You more than me," she laughed and kissed her forehead. "Come on baby, one more push let's meet one of our babies."
Casey closed her eyes and squeezed Alex's hand, pushing one more time—then the beautiful sounds of newborn cries filled the room. This time was different though, instead of the baby being placed on Casey's chest right away it was taken away by a nurse—Alex was torn, do I follow my baby or stay with my wife? We still have an unborn baby, what do I do?
She was pulled from her thoughts by Casey's hand on hers, "Go with the baby, Lex—then come back." Alex nodded, giving Casey a kiss and took off to see the baby—her eyes welled with tears as she watched the nurses work, it was such a different experience, not seeing the baby on her wife's chest this time and instead handled by unknown hands. She didn't like it, and as much as Alex didn't want to leave the little one, she knew her wife needed her.
"Mommy and momma love you baby," Alex said, then walked back over to Casey.
Alex grabbed Casey's hand and smiled, "Absolutely perfect," the blonde said wiping her tears, then her wife's.
6:17am "Alright Casey, time to do it again," Dr. Nickles said.
"I'm here baby, you can do it Case, push sweetie let's meet our babies twin," Alex said, brushing Casey's hair out of her face. She could hear the cries of their baby in the background and as much as she wanted to go soothe the baby, she needed to be there for her wife. There were two nurses with the baby so Alex knew they were safe, being measured, cleaned off, and taken care of.
"You can do it honey," Alex coached, leaning down to place another kiss to Casey's temple. "You've got it, one more big push and we'll be a family of six, baby."
Newborn cries filled the room for the second time and Casey's head fell back against the pillow as she told Alex to go with the baby and be with the other one as well while Dr. Nickles finished cleaning her up. It was a completely different birth than Harper's and she wasn't a huge fan of the fact she couldn't have them immediately placed on her chest, but did understand why. She knew they were born prematurely and needed to be checked over along with the fact having a baby on her chest while trying to push would have definitely distracted her from doing anything—she wouldn't have been able to pop out another child ten minutes later, there's no possible way.
Alex looked back at her wife with tears in her eyes, then down at the twins: they are perfect, oh my god. I can't even believe it.
"Congratulations, mommy," one of the nurses smiled at her.
"T-thank you," Alex said, completely overwhelmed by her own emotions—Casey hadn't even seen the babies yet. Gosh how is that fair? But look at them? God they are so perfect! Casey needs to see them! They were now both swaddled up, but Alex had no idea how to bring them over to her wife—how do I pick up two babies at once?
"I can help you," the same nurse said; she had seen Alex eyeing the bassinettes and knew she wanted to hold them but didn't know how to adjust them in her arms.
"Thanks," Alex laughed, picking up one of the twins, aww Harper definitely wasn't this small. Then the nurse handed Alex the other twin, positioning them in Alex's arms. Holy, this takes some getting used to. She turned to face Casey smiling with her eyes wide.
"I'll come back in a bit to see if we can get them to latch," the nurse said. Alex thanked the nurse again and watched as she left the room then went over to her wife.
"Oh my god baby," Alex said as Casey took on of the twins out of her arms; Alex repositioned the other one and sat down on the bed so Casey could see them both. "I'm so proud of you, Case."
Casey couldn't help the tears, "Lex, they're so beautiful. I can't believe how stunning they are—actually, yes I can, they look like you."
Alex gently nudged her wife, "Now you know how I feel when I see Charlotte and Harper," she turned to place a kiss on Casey's cheek.
"Charlotte looks like both of us," Casey said, turning her head to kiss Alex properly.
"Those eyes though, babe—she could get away with anything by looking at me with them because I'm a sucker for those emerald greens eyes that I love so much." Casey laughed at Alex's comment.
They took a bunch of pictures and then the nurse came in to make sure Casey could get the twins to latch; Taylor, the nurse was pleasantly surprised when both twins latched right away and her job was done. Alex looked down at her phone and saw she had a few missed texts from her parents checking in to see how Casey was doing and decided to let them know the babies were born and they could bring the girls as it was now 9:30am.
Babies are here! We're in room 704 see you soon, tell the girls indoor voices. Love you.
Oh honey, we can't wait. The girls are so excited, as are we. Love you too, xoxo mom, dad, Charlotte and Harper. ps Gray says meow.
Alex smiled then pressed a kiss to Casey's lip—they knew tonight wouldn't be the first time the girls were away from them and they even got to stay in their own home but neither mother liked it very much. Luckily it would only be one night and the Novak family would all be under one roof again tomorrow night. Johnathan and Addison were also going over there tonight for dinner and to spend some time with the girls, so that would be fun for them.
"I want to call Owen before the girls get here just to make sure he will be available when we announce the names," Casey said.
"Absolutely," Alex said, she knew how important this was to Casey and wouldn't have it any other way so she handed over the phone to her.
It was 6:30am in Seattle and if Owen didn't have to be into work, he wouldn't be awake this early, "Lexie? Oh my god is Casey okay?" his voice said through the phone. Oops…wrong phone.
"Owen, it's me," Casey said. "Sorry, Lex handed me her phone instead of my own," she laughed looking at her wife's horrified face. "I'm fine."
"Oh thank god!" he sighed.
"But, I do have some really great news…" she paused hearing Amelia shuffling in the background, "The twins are here!"
Casey held the phone away from her ear as she heard both of them screaming, "Oh Case, how are you feeling? How did everything go? Are you okay? Are the babies okay? Do you need anything? Have Charlotte and Harper come to visit yet? Wait what time is it there?" Clearly Casey had woken both of them up with the phone call and she laughed.
"Owen focus, I was calling because the girls are coming now with Liz and Alexander—when they get here we're obviously revealing the genders along with their names and I want you to be apart of that…Amelia too—but Owen," Casey started to choke up, "W-will you have some time in I don't know twenty-thirty minutes to hear the names?"
She could hear her brother sniffling as well which didn't happen much, "Yeah Case, anything for you—just give me a call back okay? I love you so much. You too Lexie! Give those babies kisses from us."
Casey hung up the phone and laid her head on Alex's shoulder. "I love you so much, Lex."
"I love you too, babe. Thank you for providing us with the most beautiful family."
The girls came running into Casey's maternity suite just to be stopped by Alex who heard their giggles—Alexander and Liz were steps behind them holding the balloons they had picked out for their momma and the babies. Alex scooped them both up in her arms and peppered kisses all over their faces as they squirmed around, "Mommy!"
"Hi my sweet girls, oh I missed you so much!" Alex smiled, Liz and Alexander were both waiting in the doorway trying to peek but the twins weren't dressed in anything that revealed their gender. "Okay little ones, I'm going to put you on the bed with momma but we need to be extra gentle with the babies promise?"
"Pomise mommy! I want to see the babies! Hawrp be nice too she pomise," Charlotte nodded enthusiastically in her mothers arms.
Liz and Alexander watched as Alex carried the girls over to the bed, "Momma! The babies out of your tummy now!"
Casey had a twin in each arm and smiled at Charlotte, "I know baby," she laughed "they are out of my tummy now." The mothers exchanged a look, loving the little girls excitement, Harper was much more reserved, but she was still young.
"They wook the same," Charlotte said as she scooted closer, Harper stayed closer to Alex as she watched her big sister go up to the babies. Right now, she just wanted to observe—but that was Harper's personality; once she figured out what was going on, she would be fine.
"They do look the same honey, because they're identical twins," Alex said, running her fingers through Harper's hair. The grandparents exchanged a look, they didn't realize the twins were identical and now they really wanted to see them but were giving their granddaughters time to visit while standing off to the side.
"What are they?" Charlotte really wanted to know, and already picked out names she thought her mommies should use. 'Cupcake', 'Daisy', 'Butterfly', and 'Minnie Mouse'. Alex and Casey told her they loved the names, and would definitely consider using them.
Liz and Alexander took a few steps closer when they heard the question and Alex turned around to see the anticipation on their faces; Casey nodded at her wife so they could say it together, "Twin girls!"
"Botf of them?" Charlotte questioned, and when she saw Casey nod she squealed, "Yay! I'm so happy. I wanted more sissys."
Casey made sure both of the twins were supported then reached out to cup Charlotte's cheek, "I'm so glad baby, I missed you so much this morning." Then looked at Harper, "You too peanut," she winked.
She could see Charlotte shifting, itching to get even closer—Alex made sure Harper was situated between Casey's legs for just a minute then positioned Charlotte next to Casey. She helped Charlotte hold out her arms correctly and put one of the twins in her arms making sure to support the baby's head—watching as Harper crawled up closer to see the babies as well.
"Baby," Harper said pointing to the one in Casey's arms.
"Yeah Harper, that's right, two babies," Alex smiled.
"I know you're both patiently waiting over there to meet them," Casey smiled, "Come on grandma, grandpa there's room for two more."
Liz and Alexander walked closer to the bed and Liz couldn't help but cry, the twins looked so much like her little Lexie when she was born. Although, there were parts of the twins that represented Casey as well. Alex looks exactly like her father, but there were parts of her that she got from her mother as well—the twins look exactly like Alex, but there were parts of them that looked like Casey even though she isn't related to them biologically. That being said, Harper is the same way with her mothers. She looks exactly like Casey, but there are parts of her that look like Alex even though she isn't related to her biologically.
"What are their names?" Alexander questioned, as he watched his wife slowly touch one of the twins cheeks. He wasn't close enough, but he could see both of them and they were beautiful. It reminded him of the day his little princess was born. If he didn't distract himself by asking a question, he was going to cry with all the emotions he was feeling. He loved becoming a father, Johnathan and Alexander are extremely close they love sports games together, cooking, and share their love of the medical profession. But when he found out he was having a little princess, dance recitals, gymnastics, daddy daughter dances, trying to learn hair do's, dress-up, Alexander was all for it. Even when Lexie loved to wrestle with her brother in her tutu, it was so adorable.
Casey looked up at Alex, the reason she hadn't passed the twins to the grandparents yet was for this reason—she wanted to call Owen. When they realized Casey was pregnant with twin girls, it didn't take long for them agree on the perfect names; each had reasons behind the names they picked, and the second they mentioned the name to the other, they fell in love with it.
They knew Charlotte and Harper wouldn't understand the meaning, but the grandparents and Owen would. After giving Charlotte a few more minutes to hold her sister, Alex picked the baby up while Casey called her brother. After exchanging hello's, telling him and Amelia the babies are girls, showing them the baby in her arms and Alex's—she nodded at Alex.
Alex was going to go first and handed her father the baby, he was confused as to why until he heard the name, "This beautiful little girl is Blayke Alexandria," she watched as her fathers eyes welled with tears right away, and then heard Charlotte's voice in the background, "Bwayke!"
"Yeah baby, Blayke, do you like it?" Casey asked, kissing the side of her head.
"B!" Harper said, clapping her hands.
That caused a laugh from Alex, Casey, Owen, Amelia—how cute is that? That's a great nickname for Blayke. Alexander hugged his daughter careful not to squish the baby and kissed her forehead. "I love you princess."
"I love you too, daddy," she said, wiping her own tears. She chose the name because of her father; growing up she was always daddy's little princess, he has always been her best friend. They were going to use Alexander if they had a boy, but didn't see themselves having another child and Alex really wanted to represent her father the way she did her mother with Harper. Casey said she didn't need an explanation, she loved it—of course the name was perfect. Once the tears in the room subsided, and the blonde nodded, she knew it was her turn.
"Okay Owen, do you have your tissues ready?" Casey teased. In actuality, she would need her own tissues, and reached for the box that was on the table in front of her that Alex brought over. She had the other twin in her arms still, Charlotte sitting next to her, Harper next to her.
Blayke was still in Alexander's arms, Liz placing kisses on her head where there was the slightest bit of blonde hair. They both looked up to listen, anxious to hear the name of their fourth grandbaby.
"I won't need them," Owen said confidently, "My nieces are there, and my wife is here with me," he smiled proudly.
Alex sat on the side of Casey's bed thankful for the fact it was so large and her wife and daughters were so small, "This beautiful little girl is Avery Lennox," Casey smiled, placing a kiss to the baby's head.
She watched as Owen's face turned from happy, to sad, back to happy, then he completely lost it. Amelia's arms wrapped around him and he cried in her arms as Casey put her head on Alex's shoulder, "…b-because of y-you," she hiccupped.
Amelia smiled at her, she knew the meaning of the name—she was the only one in the room besides Alex who knew the meaning of the name Lennox. "We love you, honey," Amelia said.
After a few minutes Owen finally spoke, "Case, I love you more than you'll ever know."
"I love you too, Owen. I'll call you later."
Casey hung up the phone and smiled—her heart felt so full. She placed another kiss to Avery's head and handed her over to Alex so Alexander could hold her, Liz now had Blayke in her arms. Casey could tell Harper was getting tired and pulled her into her lap, bringing Charlotte closer as well—within twenty minutes, Harper was asleep and Charlotte was almost asleep.
Liz and Alexander knew there was a story behind the name, just like Charlotte's middle name—but they didn't think Lennox was a naptime story: this went much deeper than that. Neither of them wanted to ask, but at the same time, both of them wanted to know.
Alex was cuddled in bed with Casey and smiled, she looked down and saw such a familiar site her two girls sleeping soundly; then looked to her right and saw her parents holding their newborn twin girls. How is it that our babies are over there, and our toddlers are in the bed? I guess four hands isn't quite enough for four of them.
She was pulled from her thoughts when she heard Casey speak, "Now that the girls are asleep, I'll explain Owen's reaction to the name," Casey addressed Liz and Alexander.
"You don't have to, honey," Liz said, even though she really did want to know.
"I want to, Avery is your grandchild, and you already know about my life," Casey said, and watched as they both nodded. "When Owen found he was getting a little sister, he said it was the best day of his life—he was only two when Jake was born and didn't know what was going on; but when I was born, he beside himself." Casey smiled at the memory, Cassidy may not have been happy to be pregnant, but he was exited about it as was Jake.
"My grandfather Lennox, who passed along Novak and Co. to us," Casey saw Liz and Alexander's lightbulbs went off, they didn't know Lennox was his name but they knew Casey's grandfather left her and the brothers the company. "He was so excited to have a granddaughter, but he died before I was born. I can see by the way you're looking at me you're both confused because I inherited a third of the company when I was 18 not before then, and that's correct—however, that's when Owen thought I'd be able handle the business side of things. He kept up with my third until I turned 18 knowing it's what our grandfather would have wanted—for me to focus on my studies. So that's what I did, not knowing about my stake in the company until I was 18, anyways—"
"Before my grandfather died, he passed along a lot to my brothers, but even more to Owen—they were very close and because of this Owen wanted to name me Lennox; he gave Cassidy and Chase a letter my grandfather wrote to them on his deathbed stating how sorry he was to miss his granddaughters life and teach her the importance of family, how a little love makes all the difference, to treat everyone with respect no matter what, and at the end of the letter he signed it, little baby Lennox."
Casey wiped her tears and continued, "They told Owen he was hopped up on pain meds, didn't know what he was talking about, and wouldn't name their daughter Lennox—but the first time Owen told me that story it stuck with me. I knew if I ever made it out of that house and found someone to spend my life with—one day maybe we'd pass the name along." Casey took Alex's hand in her own and kissed the back of it.
"Now all our babies are named after the most incredible people in our life," she looked down at Harper then over at the twins in Liz and Alexander's arms then back to their oldest. "Except for this little cutie who is named after the life she was saved from, which is beyond perfect for her," Casey smiled, and kissed the side of Charlotte's head. They truly wouldn't have it any other way.
"Your grandfather sounds like an incredibly wise man, Casey—I can say he would be extremely proud of the woman you've become," Alexander beamed.
Casey's hormones couldn't handle it and the tears flowed freely, Alex quickly grabbing a tissue and wiping them away, "It's true baby," she said kissing her wife. "I love you, so much."
"I love you too, Lex."
Before Liz could speak, a nurse came in and was thoroughly confused—she was expecting to see two babies in the bed, and while she did see two babies in bed, they weren't the correct ones. She looked over and saw the correct ones in the arms of the what she could only assume were the grandparents.
"Bless your hearts, do you have four under 2 now?" the nurse asked trying to do the math in her head, seeing the size of the girls in the bed with the mothers.
"Four under 4, these two are just teeny," the four adults laughed as the nurse visibly relaxed with a hand over her heart. She had seen a lot of crazy things in her day, but wow, that would be insane.
"I'll say," she peeked down at Charlotte and Harper and smiled, "They're adorable, you two make gorgeous babies. I hate to do this, but we have to move these two. The twins need to feed."
"It's no problem," Alex said as she stood up, "Can you take them up to your office?" she asked her father.
"Sure thing princess."
Casey kissed both toddlers, and they made the transfer—Casey felt so helpless watching everyone lift babies from her arms and place babies into arms but knew they didn't want her up and about yet so she just let everyone help her. Within a few minutes it was just her, Alex and the twins; each of them latched quickly, looking up at Casey as she cradled both of their heads. Alex was watching in awe looking between the two trying to pick up on any differences to tell them apart and the only thing the mothers have noticed so far was a teeny tiny freckle on corner of Blayke's palm. Their facial features were identical; of course they would be able to tell the girls apart with a little more time but they were only about 7 hours old and for now, the hospital bracelets were coming in pretty handy.
"Avery's a little bigger isn't she," Alex commented, stroking the babies cheek.
"That's Blayke, Lex," Casey laughed. "Hardly though, honey. 5lbs 11oz and 5lbs 9.5oz. But they seem so much smaller than Harper was when she was born."
"I know, I don't want to break them! Gosh I was so afraid I'd break Harper, but now there's two of them and they're even smaller!"
"Babies are much stronger than you think, sweetie. You know that," Casey turned her head and gave her wife a kiss. "God my heart is so full, I can't believe they're really here. We can finally say their names out loud and not worry about who hears."
"We sure can baby," Alex agreed, giving her wife a kiss on the lips.
Avery and Blayke were finished feeding, burped, and now settled; Alex could tell while Casey was feeding them she was exhausted, I mean why wouldn't she be? She gave birth to twins earlier today. Alex stood up and brought the bassinettes closer to the bed, transferred them both into one, then snuggled up with her wife.
Alex leaned close to kiss Casey's cheek, "I'm so proud of you babe. Thank you for giving me the most beautiful children in the world, four beautiful healthy babies. I love you so much."
"I love you too, Lex," then drifted off to sleep.
Alex sent a quick text to her parents to let them know Casey had fallen asleep and asked them to feed the girls and they agreed to come visit again later. Alex's last thought before she drifted off to sleep was: I love my beautiful wife and children.
Alex woke to soft cries and was thankful Casey was still sleeping, she needed the sleep after everything her body went through this morning; Alex carefully got out of the bed and went over to the bassinette to find only one of babies was awake, "Hi little…" damn who are you? she had drawn the blinds before climbing into the bed with Casey, dimmed the lights, and now had no recollection of who was on the left, and who was on the right, "Hi my little Blayke Alexandria," Alex picked her up and went to sit down in one of the chairs.
"You're already so loved. Do you know that? You have two big sisters at home who can't wait to teach you everything there is to know about life, and dress up," she laughed. "You aren't even a day old yet and you're already a big sister too, she's your twin—that's pretty special. The bond you two share is undeniable, and I know you'll always have each other's back, even if you did make your grand entrance into the world a full ten minutes before she did. Avery Lennox is officially the baby of the family, but don't you worry your pretty little heart Blayke, you and all your sisters are mommy's babies. Momma's too."
Alex spent a while talking to Blayke before she heard Avery crying and soon enough, she was cradling both babies in her arms, "Let me tell you two a story."
She kissed both of them then started, "A little over three and a half years ago, I met the most beautiful woman in the whole world: your momma. I had just walked out of grandma's office after listening to her drag on yet again about how I was working myself to death in the DA's office—she told mommy that I could settle down and make a life for myself, but stubborn me, I didn't believe that would be the case. My excitement of the week used to be grocery shopping, and taking a bath," she laughed as Avery made a slight noise, "I know, pathetic right? I couldn't wait to get out of the office that night and saw the elevator doors shutting so I called out to whomever was in there for them to hold the door. Little did I know, on the other side of that door would be the most breathtaking woman I've ever seen."
