Elena moved slowly towards the place where Tyler had captured her. She needed to find Dwayne. There was no doubt in her mind that Tyler must have killed him but he had died for her, protecting her even if it was because of a sire bond and not the goodness of his heart but it was for her. The least she could do for him was at least make sure that he gets the proper burial rights. Elijah had followed her to protect her he had said but she doubted that was what he meant. She still didn't know how she had just run away from that place leaving another to die in her place. Maybe it was because of being scared or still shocked about who Tyler had turned to or maybe it was just because of the startling revelations that had taken place. The old Elena Gilbert would never have done that she would have rather die than let another be harmed because of her. But the old Elena Gilbert was dead, parts of her had died one after the other, one, when she had seen her parents die the other when she had woken in the hospital with her brother's hand tightly clutching her own, one part of herself had died in the fire when she was killed, where she saw her aunt being murdered in front of her, another one had died at the same spot as she had looked at her lover from her altar praying that Klaus wouldn't kill him, and the lasts parts of her had drowned along with her brother in that lake as Damon's arms encircled her pulling her to the surface as she let her last family drown. The least she could do to honor the old Elena Gilbert was to bury the body of the man who had died for her.

When they finally make it back to the cabin, Klaus was already there.

"There you are!" Klaus greets them with mock enthusiasm. "I see you've rescued our wandering stray."

Elena looked at Klaus noticing his clothes which appeared dirty. There was a dark stain on his shirt and jacket. He and Tyler must have fought. Was Tyler alive? Elena thought. She was too afraid to ask but she had to know. As much as she hated him now, she certainly didn't want him dead.

" What did you do to Tyler?" Elena asked

"Really now, love? After everything he's done to you, you're concerned for that tosser?" Klaus snorted derisively. "He's fine. Still in one piece and breathing, anyway. His ego might be a bit wounded, I'm afraid. He does hate me. Poor lad. I don't know if he'll ever recover."

"Now back to what I was asking? Perhaps you could shed some light on the situation. This would appear to be the body of a hybrid."

"His name was Dwayne." Elena interrupted his monologue.

"Whoever he was, I didn't sire him. Any idea how that's possible?"

Elena couldn't help it she laughed a low breathless disbelieving laugh. She was so angry and so tired to be any angrier. " I can't believe it, I really can't believe it. " She made a move to step forward but Elijah grabbed her hand and pushed her behind him. Klaus noticed the moment and tilted his head to the side.

"Ah. Look at that," Klaus said, his voice cold. "Aren't you two fast friends? Go on, then. What horrible accusation have you conspired to levy against me."

"Tyler Lockwood brought Elena here to test a theory," Elijah says. "That the blood of her child could be used to sire hybrids. He claims you knew that. Furthermore, that you intended to use this knowledge to build an army. Just like you always use your family for your own vile and manipulative purposes."

Klaus's voice simply grew more inhuman after Elijah's words and Elena could almost swear that she could see a layer cold as ice enter his eyes.

"And of course you assume it's true. I mean, why else would I show any interest in my own flesh and blood?" Klaus replied looking around

"A heartbroken little cry baby points his finger at me and my own brother, fall in line, eager to believe it. How quickly you assume the worst, especially when it comes from her." Klaus said his eyes not leaving Elijah before he turned to Elena, " and You, you should know that he doesn't care about you, he had fallen for every woman that he knew who bore your face, all of them. And do you know why? Because they all bear the same face of his once beloveds, our once beloved Tatia. She even chose him you know all of them chose him. "

Elena said nothing merely frowned.

"Oh, spare me your indignation, Niklaus. When have you ever demonstrated any kind of concern towards Elena or her child beyond your own selfish pursuits? What was it that you once said to me? Every king needs an heir." Elijah interrupted and turned his voice mocking when he was quoting Klaus words.

"My big brother," he said the words coming out of his lips as though drenched in something vile. "So, you doubt my intentions. Well, I can't say I'm surprised. I've seen the way you two scurry around the house together. Elena goes nowhere without your diligent eyes on her. Standing beside the noble Elijah, how can I be anything but the lesser brother? A liar, a manipulator... A bastard. That's all I am to you, isn't it? And to Rebekah. And judging by the way Elena hangs on your every word, it's clear she feels the same way. No doubt my child will as well." By this time there was no more than an inch of distance between the two originals and Elena feared that Klaus would do something bad.

"Brother, if I ..." Elijah began but was cut off

"We have said all that needs to be said, Brother" Klaus then moved back from Elijah raising his hand in a mocking gesture of surrender. There was a beat of silence before Klaus said,

" I will play the role I have been given." There again was a beat of silence that Elena had learned till now to be wary of. For after every silence there is a storm either small or large but a storm nonetheless. And true to her prediction, the storm happened as Klaus turned around. It was like watching an explosion in slow motion. Klaus' eyes turned golden as the darkest part of his anger broke free. He charged at Elijah like a lightning bolt, sinking his teeth into his brother's neck.

Elena's eyes bulged in horror, too shocked to even scream. Klaus pushed his brother to the ground, stepping away, his lips twisting up into an ugly smirk, his lips tinged with the deep red of Elijah's blood as Elena bent down on her knees and helped him up.

" You two enjoy each other's company. You will have much to bond over. Once the hallucinations and dementia set in. Consider that bite my parting gift" Klaus said as he made his way from the two while his brother catered his neck. Suddenly he stopped and grabbed Elena by her hand holding her close to him his hands on her neck, he stared at her. Elijah made to move but Klaus merely raised his hand,

" As for you, I deeply enjoyed killing your aunt tasting her blood and ripping her heart out, absolument delicieux," he said. To her credit, Elena didn't falter under him and merely gazed at him with disgust and loathing.

Klaus left both of them to their own devices fuming with anger and hurt.

" You don't have to help me," Elena said," I can dig through the werewolf antique show on my own. You should rest."

Elijah looked at her and smiled," The bite won't kill me. Like Niklaus himself, it is a bit more of a nuisance than anything really."

Elena chuckled at that, " I know. Thanks, by the way for staying out here you don't have to."

" I know," Elijah said," But you said that the people of this village are all the family that you have left. I can relate. "

It was at that moment that Elena could truly understand Elijah's motive to build his family back together. Something was better than nothing. And everyone should always have a home that they could return to, a place with people who loved and accepted them for who they were. It was kind of ironic, how the originals had broken countless people and many other strong bonds. But when someone sees them, really sees them, see past the monstrous allusion that they have created around themselves one would realize that they were themselves broken.

" You are thinking about Klaus," Elena said.

" Perhaps I was too willing to condemn him. Throughout the thousand years, my brother has committed numerous unspeakable acts. But then again, so had Rebekah, so have I. "

Elena said nothing for some time, before saying, " We all have demons to deal with. Nobody can be entirely good like nobody can be entirely evil. We all do bad things monstrous things unspeakable acts. But no one is born evil. You are made that way, life makes you that way. I guess for those who live longer the list just goes on and on, till the time we are defined not by our bad deeds but our good ones. But all your actions are yours only, you cannot compare your actions with that of another to justify yours or theirs, nor I think you can blame someone for what you do. I think in the end you just have to own up to what you do. Maybe you were hasty in agreeing with whatever I was saying but for me, that is what I see Klaus as for you, he is your brother, your blood but he is still the same person you have known for a thousand years. You knew he was capable of doing what we thought he was going to do and that's why you agreed with my assessment. So don't blame yourself. You only summed him up with what he portrayed himself to be. Guilt gets you nowhere."

There was a brief silence as Elena excused herself and went out of the place both she and Elijah were searching through. She looked around before her gaze fell on her feet. Just in front of them was a book with a black cover which she was pretty sure had not been there before. She picked it up looking around again uneasily. Her mind darting back to the wolf she had seen that day before she heard the creaking of the door as Elijah came out. His gaze too also landed on the book in her hands,

" Someone left this there." she offered an explanation to his unanswered question as she continued flipping through the pages.

" What is it," Elijah asked.

" I think a bible with a family tree, that goes back generations," Elena replied.

" What are these names? Why is Elena written on the pages?" Elijah asked. Elena traced the last entry of the bible with her fingers.

" I think that they are referring to me. That's my birth date. Elena Andrea Labonair. My birth mother in her diaries mentioned that my father wanted me to be named Andrea."

Marcel leaned across the table and crossed his arms.

"Listen, kid," he looked him up and down before meeting his eyes, "if you want to make a deal with me then you gotta offer something. I already know about Elena, the werewolf girl. So what else do you got?"

"What if I told you that werewolf girl is carrying Klaus' child?" Tyler smirked when Marcel leaned closer. "And, if that baby is born, it'll mean the end of the vampire species."

"Go on," Marcel leaned back and sipped his drink. His eyes remained glued to Tyler.
