The Lightning Lieutenant
One Friday morning, the Vermilion City Gym Leader Lt. Surge invited me to the Kanto Power Plant for a friendly rematch. Leaf tagged along. My Pikachu sat on my shoulder to watch the battle.
He called out an Electrode, and I called out my own Electrode. Our Electrode were evenly matched in speed. They knocked each other out with Explosion attacks.
He sent out a Jolteon, and I sent out my own Jolteon. Our Jolteon were evenly matched in power and speed. The two Pokémon exchanged Shadow Ball moves until his Jolteon was knocked out.
He called out an Electabuzz. I recalled Jolteon and called out my own Electabuzz. Our Electabuzz were evenly matched in speed and power. My Electabuzz knocked out his with Focus Blast and Psychic attacks. My Electabuzz was hit with Brick Break, Fire Punch, and Ice Punch attacks in the process, though.
He sent out a Magneton. I recalled Electabuzz and sent out my own Magneton. Our Magneton were evenly matched in power and defense. My Magneton knocked his out with only one Ground-type Hidden Power move.
He called out a Raichu. I recalled Magneton and called out my Alolan Raichu. Our Raichu were evenly matched in speed and almost evenly matched in power. My Raichu knocked out his with Focus Blast and Psychic, but not before getting hit with two Quick Attacks.
"Absolutely shocking! Looks like there's still a gap between our skill levels that I need to close, kid!" he said.
A few minutes later, a Zapdos flew in from the other side of the plant. The commotion from our battle disturbed its rest. I had to use my entire party, sans Electrode, just to battle Zapdos.
I chucked multiple Ultra Balls at Zapdos before I caught it. I now had every Kanto region Electric-type Pokémon registered in my Pokédex. They were impressed I managed to catch a Legendary Pokémon.
"You're special, kid!" he said as he patted me on the back with enough force to almost knock me over.
