The Restless Spirit
I always wanted to go to Lavender Town. I knew Pokémon Tower was Kanto's burial ground for Pokémon. I also knew it was haunted by both actual ghosts and Ghost-type Pokémon. I loved Ghost types.
One night, Leaf and I decided to visit Lavender Town. After we rested in the Pokémon Center, we stopped by the Poké Mart so I could stock up on Dusk Balls. We left the store and walked around town for a bit. A woman approached us.
"Do you children believe in ghosts?" the woman asked.
"Yes!" I said.
"Yeah," Leaf said.
"Ah, so there are other believers out there!" the woman said with a smile.
Leaf and I heard from the other locals that the soul of a Marowak killed by Team Rocket haunted the upper floors of Pokémon Tower. The villains were trying to capture a Cubone for its valuable skull, but Cubone's mother stepped in and saved it.
Leaf grew uneasy about me going to Pokémon Tower. She questioned if I really wanted to go to a haunted cemetery at night. I said I could go alone and wouldn't try to force her to do something that made her uncomfortable. The thought of me exploring an unfamiliar place by myself bothered her even more. She stuck with me.
We went to the tower. On the first floor, the receptionist greeted us. There were a few other people who came to pay their last respects to the deceased Pokémon.
When Leaf and I reached the third floor, light purple fog appeared out of nowhere and filled the room. We thought it was creepy, but I also thought it was cool. She glared at me. The fog remained as we traversed the rest of the tower.
A Gastly, Haunter, and Gengar materialized right in front of us when we reached the third floor. This scared her, and she screamed. I caught all three Pokémon.
Not long after, they popped out of their Poké Balls and opted to follow us. This scared her even more. I placed my hand on her shoulder and told her it was okay to be scared. I also assured her everything would be alright. Marowak's ghost showed up on the sixth floor.
"Get out!" Marowak said.
Marowak struck me on the head with her bone. I was knocked out. Haunter and Gengar poked my forehead, but there was no reaction. They looked at each other and frowned.
"Jermaine!" Leaf said.
Marowak readied her bone for another hit. Gastly, Haunter, and Gengar put themselves between Leaf and Marowak. Marowak's child Cubone jumped out from behind a gravestone.
The child and mother hugged, which calmed down the latter. After Marowak caressed Cubone's face with her hand, she faded away and departed for the afterlife. Leaf rushed to my side.
"Please wake up, Jermaine. You can't die on us," Leaf said.
She was on the verge of tears. Gastly, Haunter, and Gengar looked on with frowns. I regained consciousness a couple minutes later.
"Hey, Leaf…," I said.
"You're alive! I thought I'd lost you," she said.
"I'm not going anywhere," I said.
She wiped her nose and blushed. Gastly, Haunter, and Gengar cheered. We left the tower and returned to the Pokémon Center to recover from our ordeal. As we sat in the lobby, she looked at me for a long time but didn't say anything.
"What's wrong, Leaf?" I asked. She looked down at the floor and back up to me.
"I was really worried about you," she said. Tears welled up in her eyes. I put my hand on her shoulder.
"Leaf, thank you for being concerned about me," I said with a smile. She hugged me as tears streamed down her face.
