The Old Soul

One night, Elite Four member Agatha invited me to the top of Pokémon Tower for a friendly rematch. Leaf and I were a little hesitant to go because of what we went through the last time we were there, but we went anyway.

"So, you've come. Since Professor Oak's taken a lot of interest in both of you, I thought you'd be completing the Pokédex," Agatha said after Leaf and I arrived.

We told her we divided our time between completing the Pokédex and battling. She scoffed.

"Pokémon are just for battling!" Agatha said.

Agatha grabbed a Dusk Ball and called out an Arbok. I pulled out a Dusk Ball of my own and sent out a Gengar. Gengar outmaneuvered Arbok and knocked it out with one Psychic attack. She called out a Golbat. Gengar out-sped Golbat and knocked it out with a single Thunderbolt attack.

She sent out an Alolan Marowak. It reminded me of the Marowak ghost from before. I froze for a few seconds. While I was caught off-guard, Marowak hit Gengar with a Shadow Bone attack and did a lot of damage. Gengar responded with a Shadow Ball attack and knocked out Marowak.

She called out a Weezing. Gengar knocked it out with one Psychic. She sent out her own Gengar. Our Gengar were evenly matched in power and speed. They exchanged Psychics and Shadow Balls until her Gengar was knocked out.

"Not bad! Small wonder Oak's taken such an interest in you. He and I used to be good rivals, but that was decades ago. That old duff was once tough and handsome. He's a shadow of his former self," Agatha said.

Leaf and I cringed. Agatha grinned and cackled.

"When you grow older, don't you dare go soft like that coot! Be like me, and keep battling on!" Agatha said.
