Chapter One: Wow Factor

A/N: Hello everyone! With the new movie out, we thought we might give this fic a shot. You may find some familiar names, as we've posted this before.

A few things are different—for the purposes of the plot of this fic, Zach's role is a little different than in the movie as in this fic he's a new recruit to the ACU, and he's been aged up to 18 instead of being 16. We've also got a new oc, Adrian Grady, who is Owen's younger brother. Any other characters you recognise are canon!

Daisy Sattler stepped off the ferry and onto the dock of Jurassic World, sliding her heart-shaped glasses down so she could examine everything properly. Her heart hammered excitedly in her chest and she took in a deep breath of the humid Costa Rica air, shrugging her obnoxiously yellow backpack further up her shoulders. Her Dunlop Volleys squeaked in protest as she slipped through the throng of people, eyes searching the crowd.

As the niece of the renowned Ellie Sattler, it had been an honour for Daisy to be invited to Jurassic World to shadow some of the experts there, namely head veterinarian Paige Loxton. It also helped that Daisy had a popular vlog, Dinos With Daisy, which already boasted close to 50,000 followers. She hoped that number would more than double after her time on the island, and immediately set about snapping some photos.

Sweeping her caramel blonde hair behind her ear, Daisy kept an eye out for Dr Loxton. Instead, a guy in a uniform that had 'Asset Containment Unit' across it walked over to her. At a glance, he was probably around thirty, and actually really good-looking.

"Daisy Sattler?"

"Um, yeah." She raised her hand in an awkward half-wave. "Hi."

"I'm Adrian. Paige sent me to pick you up. How was the trip?"

"Pretty uneventful, to be honest."

Daisy had been more excited about arriving on the island, although she'd strived not to look like a kid on a sugar high about it. She was eighteen, after all. People already had the impression that she was mature because she'd graduated high school early, having already completed her first year of university.

"Excited to be here?" Adrian led her over to a Jeep Wrangler, and Daisy nodded fervently as she slipped into the passenger seat. She wasn't really used to the heat of the Costa Rican sun, but she'd packed for a warm summer as per the briefing she'd received from Dr Loxton via email.

"Yeah. Have you worked here a while?"

"Two years now." Adrian started up the car and started driving toward the park, the breeze comforting as it lifted Daisy's hair. "So, you're shadowing Dr Paige. She's one of our best. Currently doing a PhD on dinosaur behaviour with a specific case study on raptors."

Daisy nodded. She was extremely aware that part of her joining this program was probably nepotism, since anyone involved with dinosaurs would have heard of her aunt. Her cousin Charlie Degler, who was also her roommate, had strongly advised against visiting the park. The incident with Ellie had occurred in 1993, before Charlie and Daisy had been born. She was pretty sure things had changed in over twenty years.

Daisy's older brother Dylan had just been a baby at the time. He had absolutely no interest in dinosaurs. Their dad had taken them out hunting a few years ago for a while, which had been the only bonding experience Daisy really had with Dylan. It wasn't that they didn't get along, they just didn't have many similar interests. Dylan lived in Boston with his long-term girlfriend.

"She's a bit of a bitch. I'm sure you'll be fine though."

Adrian's words snapped Daisy back to attention.

"I think I will be." She grabbed the blue hair tie she'd kept around her wrist, looping her hair through it until it sat in a neat ponytail.

"I'll take you to the lab. Paige said she'd take you to your room later."

"Why did they get you to pick me up?" Daisy asked, before realising that it might not be an appropriate question. She tended to have a habit of blurting out whatever was on her mind. She was typically sensitive to others, but if she was lost in thought on something else, sometimes her mouth caught up first.

"She had an appointment with the raptors this morning."

"ACU is military," Daisy pointed out. She'd done her research. ACU acted almost like dinosaur bodyguards, making sure that if there were any issues with the dinosaurs, they dealt with it.

Adrian shrugged. "I owed her a favour."

It seemed like Adrian and Paige were probably friends, so when he'd called her a bitch, she assumed that he was joking. As much as Daisy wanted to take everything in as they sped along the gravelly road toward the main park, she also knew cataloguing it was important. She took a quick video of her surroundings, as well as several more snaps.

Her Dinos With Daisy followers were gonna love this almost as much as she would.

Paige Loxton let out a long sigh as she took notes down on the tablet in her hand, glancing back to the raptors from time to time. She had been actively part of their behavioural studies since their program had been developed, and was using it as the topic of her thesis for her PhD. It meant she often spent afternoons watching Owen Grady training them, and she had to admit she did find it amusing when the girls refused to behave.

Today was not one of those days, however, and they all scampered off happily after Owen whistled, signalling for them to go. She wandered over to him, offering him a grin. "Impressive."

"Thanks." Owen smiled, turning his attention to her as he walked off of the bridge that was over their enclosure.

"How's their training?" Paige questioned, smiling when Owen leaned down to give her a swift peck on the lips, keeping the affection levels down while they were in public. They had been together for close to three years, but the two still tried to keep their relationship as private as possible.

"They're quick learners." Owen beamed at her, and she could feel the pride coming off of him in waves. He always had taken great joy in raising the raptors, even with all the bites involved.

"Unlike you." She smirked, chuckling to herself when he scoffed at her joke, following her down the stairs. "Adrian picked up my new shadow."

"Aw, you didn't wanna go get her yourself?" He teased, although he had to admit he was surprised she'd managed to convince Adrian to collect the child.

Paige shrugged, heading back towards her car, waving to Barry as they passed him. "I'm here to observe the raptors. I had it booked in so I didn't have time to get her."

"So you sent my brother?" Owen raised an eyebrow. He was fairly certain his brother had better things to do than collect children, considering he was training a new recruit and one of the ACU leaders. "Isn't he training the new kid?"

"Not today he's not." She had checked with Adrian to make sure that he had been free before asking him to pick Daisy up, but he also did owe her one. "Sign please."

Owen took the tablet from her hands, glancing down at the notes she had made before signing off on the observations. "Aw, I'm sure he can bond with the teenage girl."

"He's good with people." Adrian was good at charming himself in and out of situations, and it didn't help that he was easy on the eyes. Paige occasionally joked to Owen that she picked the wrong brother, not that she would pick differently if she had her time over. "I've got to get back to the lab."

"Alright." Owen nodded, opening the driver's side door of the car for her, leaning down to give her another kiss. "Love you."

"Love you too." Paige smiled, leaning in to give him another light kiss before sliding into the car, rolling the window down after turning it on. "You're cooking tonight. Don't forget."

"I won't." Owen assured her with a chuckle, stepping back from the car. "Have fun."

The harsh lights and pristine condition of the lab was a stark contrast to the peaceful outdoors that Daisy had so fallen in love with, but she figured that was okay. Lugging her floral suitcase along behind her, she headed into the lab, a little unnerved by the silence. There was only one person there at the moment, a dark-haired woman in her late twenties who was sipping a cappuccino.

"Um. Paige, right?"

"Yes, hi!" The woman pushed herself away from her desk. She didn't seem at all the serious type that Daisy had pictured. "You must be Daisy."

"Yeah, that's me." Daisy cracked a slight smile. "Adrian dropped me off."

"I'm glad to see you here in one piece." Paige gestured for Daisy to follow her across the lab. "Come on in. I'm just finishing up my notes."

Daisy noted several photos around the desk, including some of raptors that caught her attention. Her information booklet had described four raptors at the park. Although Daisy was more of a herbivore fan, the raptors still excited her.

"You work with the raptors?"

"I just study them." Paige waved a dismissive hand. "My partner is the one who raised and trained them."

"Oh, nice." Daisy wasn't certain if she meant partner in a professional or romantic way, and didn't really think it was her business to ask.

"So. What are you most wanting to see while you're here?"

"I don't know." Daisy was overwhelmed by the amount of options she had. "I just really love dinosaurs."

"Herbivores or carnivores?"

"Both."

"Fully grown or babies?"

"Usually babies."

Paige nodded slowly. "Okay, we can work with that."

"What did you want me doing first?" Daisy asked, eager to get started. Ellie had her reservations about the park, and Charlie had made his doubts known as well, but no one had been able to dissuade Daisy once the offer had come in.

"Let's go look at some dinosaurs." Paige grabbed her bag. "Need anything before we go?"

"I think I'm all good." Daisy checked her backpack to make sure she had her water bottle, clear with daisies printed all over it. Hydration was important, especially in a place as humid as Costa Rica.

"Alright, cool. Let's go." Paige handed her a pass, which Daisy clipped to the hem of her shorts with a thrill of excitement. It was a VIP pass and everything, which meant she would have access to more places than the general public.

"What did you think of Adrian?" Paige questioned as they headed back out into the sunlight. The question threw Daisy off, but she realised that Paige and Adrian must know each other quite well.

"He's…interesting. He said you were a bitch."

"Ah, typical." Paige seemed amused and not in the least surprised. "He's my partner Owen's brother. Makes sense he'd try and paint me to be scary. He's a nice guy when you get to know him."

"He's kinda hot," Daisy blurted out, before feeling mortified at how inappropriate a thing it had been to say. She wasn't there to drool over attractive men. She scolded herself for not having more focus. Now Paige probably thought she was some idiot teenager about to get giddy over hanging around Adrian.

"He's 30." Paige raised an eyebrow. "Isn't he a bit old for you?"

"Maybe." Daisy was immediately self-conscious, cheeks flaring with heat. She hadn't meant anything by it. "I don't know, I'm just looking."

Paige just grinned. "Come on. Let's go take a look around."

Paige sighed happily as she let herself sink lower into the hot water of the bath, the bubbles floating around her neck. It had been a long day, although she had enjoyed showing Daisy around the park more than she thought she would have. The girl was smart and had a willingness to learn that Paige appreciated.

"Hey." Owen's voice drew her out of her thinking, and she glanced towards the doorway where he was happily leaning.

"Hey." She smiled at him, continuing to play with the bubbles. "How was work?"

"It was good. How's your little friend?" Owen questioned her as he moved back into the bedroom, stripping off his own dirty clothes from the day. "Heard Adrian told her you were a bitch."

"He did. The asshole." Paige rolled her eyes, sipping the wine she had poured herself before climbing into the bath. "As for Daisy, she's good. Quite smart."

Owen chuckled at her insulting his brother, grabbing some clean pants to tug on before leaning back in the doorway. "Nice bath?"

Paige nodded, letting her eyes roam over his now naked chest. "Amazing bath."

"And the wine?" He raised an eyebrow, gesturing to the drink in her hand.

"Got another paper published." She grinned proudly. It marked her third published paper since she had started at the park when it had first opened. She had been top of her class at university, and had worked hard to get where she was. "On behavioural patterns in juvenile carnivores."

"Congratulations." Owen smiled, leaning down to kiss the top of her head. He was always proud of his brainiac girlfriend, even if she could run rings around him intelligence wise.

"Thank you." She hummed happily, pushing herself to her feet and grabbing her towel before stepping out of the bath and following him into the bedroom, searching for clothes while he stretched out on the bed. "How was work?"

"Long and tiring." He answered, watching as she tugged on some pyjamas.

"Aw, baby." Paige pouted at him, sitting down in his lap, her hands resting on his shoulders as he shifted to sit up. "Life is so hard for you."

Owen slid his hands up her legs, letting them rest on her hips, mocking hurt. "You're being mean."

"I'm always mean to you." She pointed out, leaning forward to kiss him. "You love me though."

"Hmm, sometimes." He countered, pulling her closer to him and kissing her again, letting his lips linger against hers for a moment. "When you're not mean."

It had been a whirlwind of a day so far. Paige had taken Daisy to see the baby herbivores, and they'd ended up spending most of the morning there. Adrian came to pick Daisy up after, as Paige had some other work-related matters she needed to take care of. Daisy hadn't expected to spend so much time with what was essentially the park's security division, but they were all friendly to her so she didn't mind.

"How are you liking the place?" Adrian asked as he handed Daisy a can of Cherry Coke from the fridge in the ACU headquarters.

"It's really cool." Daisy opened the can and took a sip. The only other person at headquarters at the moment seemed to be a brown-haired boy probably around Daisy's age, who milled in the corner quietly. He looked a little young to be ACU, but if he was eighteen like her then there was nothing stopping him from being part of it.

"I'm glad you like it." Adrian gestured to the boy. "That's Zach. He's our newbie."

Zach waved. "Hey."

"Hi." Daisy offered him a bright smile. It was nice to actually see people her own age around, considering both Paige and Adrian were at least a decade older than her. "I'm Daisy."

A smile ticked at the corners of his lips. "Nice to meet you."

"What were you doing today?" Adrian asked, leaning against the kitchen counter and folding his arms over his chest.

"Saw some baby dinosaurs." Daisy perched on one of the chairs at the dining table. It was kinda nice just hanging out at ACU headquarters, because she often felt out of her depth with Paige. The woman was super smart and although Daisy was clever enough to have graduated a year early, she didn't think she was that clever.

"See the baby allosaurs? Paige is obsessed."

"What do you think of them?" Daisy questioned, taking another sip of her Coke. The condensation on the can felt nice in her hand, considering how clammy the humidity made her feel.

"I don't mind dinosaurs, but I don't get her and Owen's obsession." Adrian admitted with a shrug of his shoulders. She guessed that he was probably ex-military or something, so he was more focused on the whole security thing rather than the dinosaur thing. "Your blog is cool."

"Thank you." Daisy couldn't help but blush, tucking a strand of blonde hair behind her ear. She had a bunch of followers, but always went a little modest when someone she knew in real life checked it out. "You've looked at my blog?"

Adrian nodded. "Yeah, Paige showed me."

Daisy smiled shyly. Dinos With Daisy had been a project she'd worked on since she was fifteen, and she supposed being the niece of someone as prestigious and involved with Jurassic Park as Ellie Sattler meant she had developed a bit of a cult following. Daisy had featured her aunt once or twice, a feat in itself considering Ellie's reluctance to revisit everything that had gone down at the park.

"You're with Zach and I tomorrow."

Daisy perked up. She thought she would have been spending most of her time tailing Paige, but it seemed like something big was happening at the park that meant Daisy was spending time with other people as well.

"What are we doing?"

"Patrolling the park. Keeping an eye on the dinos."

"Sounds like fun." Daisy glanced at Zach, who had remained quiet throughout most of the exchange. He seemed like he was probably a bit shy. "Are you excited?"

"It'll be fun." He avoided eye contact with her, making Daisy frown slightly. He was pretty awkward around her, like he didn't really know how to talk to her. She was hardly an intimidating person, and considered herself quite friendly, so she couldn't have said what that was about.

Boys were weird, and she thought she understood dinosaurs more than them.
