The Frenzy of the Lord of the Woods : Chapter 4

Ingo has a somewhat clear and slightly fuzzy memory of that day.

He was working on something, something with a pad and moving big metal box when his younger sister (she was still a little fuzzy, but Ingo remembered that she's his youngest sibling and her name is Ayla) came in carrying not even a year old Sylvern in her arms while a- is that jealousy? -scowl was on her face.

"I leave her too many times in your care if this is her first real words." Ayla grounded out with what was clearly jealousy in her tone of voice.

"What on tracks are you talking about Ayla?" Ingo had asked. Ayla's answer was to gave him baby Sylvern in his arms and said softly with a warm smile to her daughter, "Come on Sweetie, say it again."

Baby Sylvern with her big wide silver grey eyes which was their family hereditary and with her still short dark black blue hair with silver grey sheen and linings, looked at Ingo with a genuine happy smile and said, "Unca In-go!"

Ingo looked at the baby and then to Ayla and back again with a dumbfounded look on his face. Ayla just has a wry but proud smile on her face, "Congratulations 'Unca In-go', you are officially Sylvern's first words when they should've been 'Mommy' or 'Daddy'. You are banned from babysitting her until further notice." She was joking of course, but Ingo still has that dumbfounded look on his face and he was still speechless while looking at the source of it in his arms. Ayla can't help but to hide a laugh behind her hand.

Someone.. he doesn't remember who, but he was like him and loves to battle, whined a complaint from behind his shoulders, "What? Ingo got Sylvern's first words? That's not fair! Why not 'Unca -'? It was always Ingo as first words."

Ayla look confused but intrigued, "Really?"

The other man with white clothing nodded, "Your first word was 'Ingwo' before 'Ewmet', because of that Mother didn't let us babysit you until you learn saying 'Mom'. Father just laughed in amusement every time Mother failed and you just said 'Ingwo' even more. I swear Mother looked just like you by now when you looked at Ingo." He laughed and ruffled Sylvern's short hair.

Ayla just smiled softly in relent when she heard that and caressed her daughter's cheek softly, "So I guess you're just like Mommy after all huh? That's okay then, you can ignore - for now." His name.. it always escaped him until it reached the point as frustrating to him.

The white clothed man complained even more before another man, younger than them walked in, "Now come on Ayla. That's not fair for Brother - right?" He was Ayla's husband who sports a dark black blue hair just like his daughter. The baby's silver grey sheen and linings were from their side of the family seeing the three of them sported silver grey hair.

Wait.. the man has-

Ingo snapped out of his sudden memory. He can finally recall on the other white clothe man has silver grey hair just like him. Just- Just who is he? Why can't he remember him? Ingo has to stop the thought for now because he has other more urgent matter in front of him.

Sylvern was ordered by the Commander to quell the Lord of the Wood's frenzy.

Rei was sent up to the 3rd floor by the Captain to see if he can be some sort of help for Sylvern's new order. Rei was standing between relief and horror from hearing the order.

He was relief that he can help Sylvern somehow but it was a Lord Pokemon for sinnoh's sake! It was a very dangerous mission even for experienced adults.

Commander Kamado's defense was that Sylvern has to prove herself if she wants to stay here in the village and as a member of Survey Corps, because there still many people who were suspicious and wary about her existence after falling out from the sky.

Rei thought it was ridiculous while Ingo had never like the Commander since the first time he met him. Kamado never like an outsider, so when he knew Ingo was appearing out of nowhere the Commander was suspicious but he didn't dare to say it out loud because Ingo was a member of Pearl clan and has a Noble Pokemon, Sneasler, to vouch for him.

His niece didn't have that kind of assurance and has to prove herselfs.

She may not remember him but now Ingo at least knew what his purpose on coming to Hisui.

If it's not for helping his niece getting through this life, he didn't know what else and for whatever deity's out there who messed with their lives and try to mess with his niece's even more? Ingo would not let them.

Because Sylvern is his family, his niece, and like his only child he would never have.

Sylvern was confused when everyone stiffened at Commander's orders for her. What is the Lord of the Woods? A Pokemon? Or something else maybe? What is even a frenzy that he was talking about? And why does everybody look so worried? It was confusing, so she asked the first question in her head,

"What is the Lord of the Woods?"

Irida look affronted which made Sylvern even more confused and took a step back. Fortunately, Rei was there to explain things for her.

"There are 10 Noble Pokemons here in Hisui who were said to be the descendants of the hero legend's companion who were blessed by Almighty Sinnoh itself. Every Noble Pokemon helps protect Hisui and it's occupants, that's why every Noble has their own Warden who helps to look after them. Mai here is a Warden of Wyrdeer, while Ingo is a Warden for Sneasler. The Lord of the Woods is a title of one of the Noble Pokemon which was Kleavor and his Warden is Lian. Got the gist of it for now?"

Sylvern nodded. Those were all new things for her and not a single thing rang any familiarity with her except for 'Ingo'. So she still didn't know what's so dangerous about them.

Rei caught the questioning curious glint in her eyes and said, "Noble Pokemons have the size even bigger than alpha pokemon Sylvern. And Lord Kleavor was said to be on frenzy which means he isn't himself for the moment and already hurt some people from both clans."

"So they are.. aggressive?" Sylvern asked.

"Our Lord Kleavor was not aggressive!" Irida said with a frustrated glint in her eyes. Sylvern jumped back and partly hides behind Rei whom has stiffened himself at Irida's tone.

"Miss Irida, I don't think Young Sylvern knew about the nobles yet. She was just asking for the unknown." Ingo said calmly. His tone calmed both Irida and Sylvern whom stays beside Rei and wasn't really hiding anymore.

"Right.. Our clan's Lord Kleavor was not aggressive. Well.. not usually. Something was bothering him I'm sure about it. So that's why we were asking for the Galaxy team if they knew what cause it and how to stop it." Irida explained.

"Why us? Can't.. Warden Lian do it?" Sylvern can't help but asked.

Irida sighed, "Lian had tried. But even Kleavor didn't want to meet him for the past few days. his conditions are getting worse. I'm afraid none of our clans knew what to do with it anymore.. That's why we are asking for Galaxy team's help."

Sylvern rubbed the back of her head with a confused frown on her face, "But.. What can I do?"

"That, I think the Professor might have some ideas for that Sylvern. Don't worry we'll get the bottom of this." Rei said for some assurance but Commander Kamado looked at him pointedly,

"Do not attempt to do her work, Rei. You have your own work to finish as well."

Rei gulped, standing rigid at the ice in Kamado's gaze, "Oh- uh- I'm- Yes, Sir."

Commander Kamado turned to Sylvern whom almost look defiant with her gaze when she saw the Commander had scared Rei, "You have your orders. See to it that you complete it."

Sylvern was not scared. She's curious, and she will do anything to see Rei calm and happy again if that means she has to glare up to the Commander,

"Yes, Sir."

Ingo wanted to talk to his niece more, but Sylvern was dragged by Rei to Captain Cyllene's office for more briefing and Irida was going to Grandtree Arena to tell Lian about the meeting while Ingo has to follow her.

But before he steps out of the Galaxy Hall's doors, Sylvern was waving at him, catching his gaze and smiled brightly,

"I'll see you soon Uncle Ingo!"

Ingo sent her a small smile and a nod before following Irida out.

He'll see her soon. He's sure of it.

After Ingo left, Rei can't help but said, "I don't know why you insist on calling him 'Uncle' Sylvern, but it isn't polite to ask that when you first met someone."

"But that's just it Rei. I don't think this is the first time I met him. And 'Uncle' just suits him and it clicked." Sylvern explained and shrugged when Rei sent her a questioning glance.

"You're just full of surprises, aren't you?"

Sylvern just grinned, "Happy to make your life interesting Rei."

"I will have my hands full as your mentor, you know that right?"

Sylvern just laughed.

Captain Cyllene and Professor Laventon was waiting for them in the Captain's office. Professor looked worried while Captain Cyllene was her usual stoic face.

"Before you go off and quell the Lord's frenzy, I suggest you study him more first before doing anything rash. This could be a good opportunity for you to study more about Noble Pokemon that the two clans protect and serve." Cyllene said to the young child whom look at least excited and curious to what she suggested.

"Ask Lian more about what you need to know with Kleavor my dear. If anyone knew about Kleavor, it's his warden." Professor Laventon added.

Sylvern nodded, expecting that much after the conversation in Commander's office.

Cyllene nodded to Sylvern, "Off you go then while the daylight is still there."

"Best of luck Sylvern. Rei will accompany you until you reach our Heights base camp then you can make tracks to Grandtree Arena from there." Professor Laventon said a little concern.

Sylvern was confused, "I'm going to go alone?"

"Not really. Grandtree Arena was just a little ways from Heights camp. I've got some other work around there, when you were done I'll pick you up okay?" Rei said.

Sylvern nodded. It will be just like what she did yesterday, it should be fine. She should be happy that they allow her a free reign as well for today.

Then why did she has some bad feelings about this?..

Irida had asked Ingo to go back to Pearl Settlement first since she and Lian will be the ones to wait for Sylvern. He wanted to wait for her too but then he has to explain it to Irida and he didn't know where to start or if he should explain it at all. So he settles on waiting for them at Heights camp.

When Rei and Sylvern arrived at Heights Camp, the child had waved at him again before going on her ways to Grandtree Arena while Rei robed him into helping his work so he could finish it faster and pick up Sylvern on time. For the main reason seeing Sylvern again later, Ingo complied and helped the young teenager on his work. The other reason, well- Rei looked to be stump on his own survey work, and Ingo can't help but to help out when he saw the almost defeat look on his face.

Rei's work with the help of Ingo went well that he was able to finish early. It was when they waited at Heights camp that they heard the bad news.

Lian came running to them with horror and look terrified out of his life. Ingo had never seen that look on the talented child's face.

"Somebody brings a healer! That girl, Sylvern, Kleavor- Oh for sinnoh's sake she's bleeding badly!"

Ingo and Rei's face paled considerably. Rei was frozen with shock while Ingo quickly snapped out of it and grabbed Lian's arms tightly and desperately, "Where is she?!"

Lian stuttered, "Sh-She's still at Grandtree Arena. Kleavor- she- she's managed to get him out of his frenzy but the bleeding- We're afraid to move her, she's losing so much blood from the cut-"

Ingo had released his hold from Lian before shouting, "Lead the way Warden Lian! We can't be delay anymore!"

Lian nodded and quickly led the way, Ingo and Rei quickly followed with a sprint.

Arriving at Grandtree Arena, there were considerably a crowd where Sylvern laid.

All three of Sylvern's pokemon were out and very worried for their young friend and charge, Luxray was curled up around the bloodied form of Sylvern while Rowlet and Vaporeon were around her, preventing the might be wild pokemon from attacking the girl. Irida and Adaman were there, arguing on the best way on how to move her without worsening her condition. Lord Kleavor was there as well, looking very guilty and worried for the young human child.

Right after Ingo and Rei arrived, Mai came in from the back of Wyrdeer yelling, "I got the medicine! All of you move and give her some space! We don't have time for this!"

They all moved, even Luxray. This was a very serious condition and no one wants to make it worse by getting on Mai's way who quickly kneeled down by Sylvern's side and prepared some plant ointment to apply it on the big gash on Sylvern's left arm.

"Shh, it's okay Sylvern. It's okay. You're going to be fine alright? This will stings. Can someone-?"

"I'll hold her." Ingo was quick to moved before anyone objects and kneeled down, putting his niece's head softly on his lap before holding her small frame steady while letting the hurt arm out for Mai to work with.

"Whatever you do, don't let her go Warden Ingo." Mai warned before applying the ointment on the gash wound.

Sylvern's reaction was immediate.

"No!" Sylvern started to thrashed around from the agonizing sting in her arm, but Ingo's hold on her was firm and steady while Mai tried to make quick work on it, "No! Please let go, Please, it hurts!"

Sylvern's pained pleading was agonizing for everyone to hear. But no one can do anything about it. Nothing to lessen the pain except the warm assurance and soothing from Mai and Ingo both. Rei was too frozen in shock to say anything.

When Mai was done, Lian gave her some clean gauze-like cloth to wrapped around Sylvern's left arm. By then, Sylvern's pained pleading had stopped, leaving the child in tears and soft sniffles, hiding her face in Ingo's garment taking whatever comfort she can get from it.

Ingo had loosened his hold but didn't let the girl go. He drew the girl closer to his chest, letting the girl cry while rubbing her back softly in comfort while Sylvern hides her face further. For Ingo has remember that Sylvern was never a big crier even when she was a baby. Her premature lungs can't take it sometimes and will leave her coughing for minutes that led to hurting her lungs and blood coughs.

That was an experience in Ingo's memories that no one wants a repeat of.

Adaman was the first to gave the first move on how to get Sylvern back to Jubilife Village. Even if Ingo wanted to bring her back to his place, the Pearl Settlement was too cold for the child, especially with her injury.

"Warden Ingo, you need to give Sylvern to Mai." when Adaman saw Ingo's hold tightened around the girl's small body, he sighed, "Look, Mai can ride on Wyrdeer's back to get her back to the village faster. The rest of us can walk on foot to get there but she's the top priority right now."

Ingo's hold loosened at that. He knew that. He really knew that Mai was the fastest option. But seeing that the second he let his niece out from his sight after he met her then she got hurt from doing the Survey Corps work, Ingo has a hard time putting his trust on anyone when it concerns Sylvern's safety.

But being stubborn about it was not an option as well. Sylvern's travels to the village cannot be delay any longer. She needs a healer to look at the wound and fast.

So Ingo with worried and heavy heart gave Sylvern's small frame to Mai's hold whom quickly climbed on Wyrdeer's back and dashed quickly to Jubilife Village.

The second they out of sight, everyone sighed with concern for the small child.

Rei had gone concernedly quiet while he tends to Sylvern's pokemon, explaining softly that they have to follow him on foot since their pokeballs were still in Sylvern's satchel. Luxray gave Rowlet and Vaporeon a ride on his back for faster travels before following Rei walked back to the village.

Irida had asked Lian to calm Kleavor down for now before she, Adaman, and Ingo followed Rei's lead to Jubilife Village.

The only one who dare to break the heavy silence on the group was Irida when she can't help but to say, "She's just a child. I told you she's just a child."

Everyone was too worried to object and to be honest? Irida was right. Today's events won't happen if a child didn't do adult's work, especially dangerous work like this.

Commander Kamado has a lot of explaining to do.

Sylvern was rushed back to the Healer's hut to be treated further. Mai stayed with them along with Sylvern's pokemon and Wyrdeer while Rei wordlessly went to search for Professor Laventon and Captain Cyllene to give them the news.

The rest of them went straight to Commander Kamado's office.

After hearing the story from Irida who saw the whole thing with Lian, Commander Kamado just sighed and said, "Well that was unfortunate.. but Kleavor's frenzy was finally quelled?"

"I- Yes. It did, but didn't you hear what I just said? Sylvern got hurt because of it. She's a child! She can't do adult's work!" Irida protested.

"Enough!" Kamado said sternly, "What happened today was an unfortunate event for Sylvern. But she had done what she needs to do and did it. If I need to remind you Irida, is that everyone needs to do their part in the village. Sylvern needs to do more as Survey Corps Member because she's a girl who fell from the sky. She has done her work and I will give her the rest time she needs to recover. That is final. We'll discuss this frenzy problem further after Sylvern is fit to give a debriefing."

With that, the two leaders and Ingo left the Commander's office with frustration clear on their faces. Adaman went to search for his sister, Mai, to get whatever news about Sylvern's condition. Leaving the two Pearl clan members at the steps of Galaxy Hall. Ingo wanted to follow Adaman, but Irida wanted to talk to him for a moment.

Seeing the impatient look on his face, Irida cut to the chase, "We've done everything we could, Ingo. More if we have to and will. I don't know why you were so attached to Sylvern Warden Ingo but please, whatever you do, don't do anything rash or it will bring war between Pearl clan and the Galaxy Team." Ingo stays silent contemplating Irida's words. She can only sighed and said, "I'm going back to Grandtree Arena to give Lian the news. You can stay here for as long as you need to, I will give Sneasler the news tomorrow if you haven't come back yet."

Feeling grateful for Irida's consideration, Ingo tipped his hat politely, "Thank you, Miss Irida. Now I have to depart to Young Sylvern's place. I will bring you the news later after I speak with the healer."

Irida nodded and let out a small smile, "Please do. Good night Warden Ingo. Stay safe and give my regards to Sylvern okay?"

Irida and Ingo part ways at Canala Bridge where Ingo hurried to the Healer's place. Thankfully, they were all allowed to see Sylvern who was already asleep. Luxray waste no time to curl around Sylvern while Rowlet and Vaporeon snuggled to his fur. They were careful not to touch Sylvern's bandaged arm before falling asleep as well while Luxray lay down and took guard on the child.

The kind old woman was one of the village's healer aside from the Medical Corps at the Galaxy hall named Tomma. She had brought Sylvern to her quarters because the Medical Corps Office was full with other patients. They don't have any extra bed so they brought her here to rest and tend to her wound more to lessen her pain.

"Poor girl was finally asleep after I put on some cooling ointment on her arm. She was exhausted, but the wound was a clean cut so it will probably heal in a week or two. However.. the wound would probably leave a scaring there for a long time.." Tomma said sadly but assured the three adults that Sylvern will recover.

Adaman, Mai, and Wyrdeer left after making sure that Sylvern is really okay before going back to Diamond Settlement. Ingo stayed with Sylvern's pokemon after Tomma left to stay on her neighbour's place, making sure his niece is alright when Professor Laventon, Captain Cyllene, and Rei came shortly after.

"Is she alright?" Professor Laventon asked with a whisper.

Ingo nodded, "Healer Tomma said she will recover."

Professor Laventon and Rei sighed in relief, even Captain Cyllene look less stiff than usual.

"Are you staying here for the night Warden Ingo?" Rei asked after Professor Laventon and Captain Cyllene left to their quarters after making sure that Sylvern is alright.

Ingo nodded, "I will stay here until she is fully recover." Rei smiled gratefully at that,

"I knew she has a good character judgement, and she trusts you so much after she just met you. Maybe you do have some connections with her." Rei then left while Ingo thought about his words.

Even without her memories, Sylvern has unconsciously latched on to the familial connection she has with Ingo.

Looking at his niece's soft undisturbed face, he can hear her soft snores indicating a well-needed rest. He caressed his niece's soft cheek, making sure that she was really alright.

Luxray didn't do anything to stop him since he can smell a faint scent of Ingo on Sylvern and recognized him as her close family, so he trusted him and let Ingo what he needs to do.

Sylvern, sensing her uncle's hand on her face in her sleep, leaned on to it looking for comfort she knew she'll get.

Ingo had stayed up and only sleep beside Sylvern's bed when Luxray assured him that he will stay on watch since no one can escape Luxray's sight.

Ingo and Luxray have made a promise.

I will protect her even more, no matter what.
