Having a plan, and that plan actually being any good were two very different things.

Miles slipped a honey bottle between his fingers, chugging it down without slowing his erratic path through the air. Scorched flesh sizzled back into place, fur poking out from a hole where an armoured pauldron used to be and, thanks to dentropy, would soon be once again.

In fact, all things considered this was a very bad plan. Miles had no control whatsoever over most of it, no idea when or if it would work and no time to even find any of the people in the plan to let them know. In fact, the only thing he could do right now was to trust his friends. And if everything somehow worked out, to hope that they could forgive him.

Sonic streaked across the clearing below, casting a worried glance up at Miles as he passed on his way beneath the outsider's body and out of sight. Miles spun his tails faster, climbing higher once more to spray a flurry of napalm paint pellets into the open eyeball of the outsider's palm. The creature loosed another rumbling cry of irritation, but four fresh glowing green eyes burst from the main body's burning surface all the same. Each was too slow by mobian standards to be a real threat alone, but they were as untouchable as the creature's main body, and they never stopped. Thick swarms coiled over one another in an endless pursuit, tendrils tirelessly reaching out in a bid to tear him limb from limb.

But he never needed to stop either, thanks to the emblem seared onto his chest. Perfect for his role in this plan:

The distraction.

Sonic passed by below again, faster this time, still worriedly glancing upwards as he accelerated beneath the outsider once again.

That was it. One more pass and he'd be at top speed. Miles' tails stopped dead, then inverted their direction, propelling him out of the sky as the outsider's forehead eye cracked open, already crackling with energy as it prepared to loose another sky rending beam at him. He hit the ground at speed, bouncing off the freshly cratered dirt to land with his back to his enemy.

Sonic streaked into view a moment later, his face grim with determination as he charged directly towards Miles at mach six, a metallic blue lance twice his height held locked steady in his grip, glinting in the growing light of the monster's glowing eye.

His secret weapon. A mobian could be likened to something of an organic cannonball, using their own body mass accelerated to high speeds to deal immense concussive force even to creatures or creations many times their size and weight. With its tapered point and dense construction, the lance took all of the energy and weight of a charging mobian and simply concentrated it onto an area a fraction of a percent the original. The cannonball became a bullet, and his tests showed that at his top, cake-enhanced, speed this simple design hit almost as hard as the physics-defying Prism.

Sonic, on the other hand, weighed almost twice as much as he did, and ran five times faster. Miles grinned, dropping low to the ground, his fingers laced together as he braced himself against the charging hedgehog. Razor sharp metal sliced past his ear with the blast of its accompanying sonic boom roaring around him. Sonic's grim expression intensified as he closed the gap between them in a fraction of a second, foot crushing down on Miles' fingers…

And Miles heaved upwards, redirecting all that force and supplementing it with his own strength to send Sonic slicing up through the air like a meteor, directly into the creature's open eye.

Miles didn't even have time for anticipate the impact before a world rending roar of pain pierced through his skull. He yelled out, unable to hear his own voice as his balance momentarily failed him, but spun his tails all the same, digging a groove through the dirt as he propelled himself quite literally at random, a rain of eyeballs crashing to earth behind him. Finally, sense returned and he righted himself, launching from the ground in a barely controlled spiral just as a beam of blazing white vapourised everything in its path behind him, including a dozen eyes.
"Sonic!"

The impact hadn't been enough. Sonic had actually managed to hurt it, but not enough to prevent its attack. Miles turned his view this way and that until finally he caught the telltale blue speck of blue against the backdrop of the creature's titanic chest, tumbling down through the air, smoke billowing from his body.

The speck moved, a white hand stretching out toward Miles.

He caught it just before Sonic hit the ground, accelerating skywards with his hero in tow.

"Thanks for the lift, Tails!"

"Sonic! Are you okay?"

"Lost my last ring. And it… destroyed the lance." Sonic's expression darkened as he looked down at the tentacled outsider below, its damaged eye currently squeezed shut as it raised its palms, sending a spray of flaming green projectiles scorching through the air at them in strange wriggling arcs.. Only a thin trail of blood showed that they'd managed to harm the chaos-empowered beast at all.

"Don't worry." Miles smiled, his eyes pointed in another direction. "Everything's going according to plan."

Below, standing at the entrance of the hidden palace flanked by Amy and Reason, Knuckles rested his hand atop the Master Emerald, floating unaided beside him, unnoticed by the creature thanks to their distraction. His eyes closed in deep concentration as he spoke.

"Chaos is power. Power is enriched by the heart. The controller is the one who unifies the chaos." The echidna's eyes opened once more as the Master Emerald blazed a brilliant green beside him. "Stop the Chaos Emeralds."

A sudden change in pressure washed over Miles in a silent implosion as the Master Emerald executed its purpose. The outsider's flesh turned sallow and grey as the emeralds in its flesh went dormant, eyes eyes losing their glow and dropping from the sky in droves as they no longer had the energy to give chase.

"Way to go, Knux!" Sonic was already revving his feet to charge back into the fray as Miles dropped him beside his friends.

"Tails! How did you-"

"No time!" Miles hovered above, slipping the Prism from his hammerspace as he stayed hovering above, dropping the Whammer and the Meteorite Cannon Mk II as an afterthought. "The big eyes are its weak spot! We'll need to take it down quick!"

Knuckles pressed his fists together with an audible crack, crouching low.

"It's time for you to get your ugly mug the heck off my island."

They charged.
