Shattered

What ist he worst one human being can do to another How do you not break a bone in someone's mind but their very soul? And what if Silva is not just talking about what he could do to Bond but actually goes one step further…

Kind of an alternate universe with all my favourites in it - Bond is Daniel Craig's Bond, M as portrayed by Judi Dench, young quirky Q, Tanner and Moneypenny - hope you enjoy it!

James was lying stark naked on the cold stone floor, his back pressed against the wall furthest from the door in the darkest corner. He was curled up into a ball, his eyes staring blankly at the door. His whole body was rigid, taunt like a bowstring and ready to spring at anything that moved. His muscles ached from the uncomfortable position and everything his torturer had put him through but he did not relax, he could not. At least the cold stones were providing some kind of relief to the pain he felt radiating through his body. His bluey eyes were watery and red-rimmed but he hardly blinked and never closed his yes for long. The pain in his body was nothing compared to the agony his mind created as soon as he dared to close his eyes for just one second. Blood was trickling from a couple of cuts and other minor injuries, tinting the stones red beneath him.

Suddenly the door was kicked open and men stormed inside. They were carrying machine guns and for a moment Bond thought his torturer had decided to repeat his little game and jumped to his feet, ready to defend himself or die trying. He had already grabbed one of the rather startled men and almost knocked him down when a clear voice rang out. "Commander Bond." It said and without any word needed he let the man fall to the ground and backed up against the wall again. They were British. They were here for him. The relief washed over him like a wave, threatening to drown him in it. Using every ounce of strength and faked confidence he possessed and could muster he stood tall, staring the men down.

"We have found 007." These four words crackling over comms brought a sense of almost palpable relief over everyone at MI6 who heard them. Even M allowed herself to relax her rigid posture a tiny bit while Tanner actually smiled and Moneypenny let out a breath she had not known to be holding. "Bring him back to London. Tell him I await his report." M said calmly. "We will, Ma'am." The connection was broken, and M got up from her chair to walk over to the large window facing the city of London. Staring at the river and the buildings beyond she allowed herself to feel the relief that washed over her like warm water. She kept telling herself this relief stemmed mostly form the fact that Bond was a much too valuable agent to lose him to anybody – he knew too much, the information he possessed could prove extremely harmful to MI6 but there was a little voice inside her nagging that this was not the only reason she wanted him back in London, on safe ground as soon as possible.

"Bring the man some clothes." The one in command apparently barked out and one of the soldiers hurried out and returned a short while later with a black overall. Not his usual tailored suit but better than nothing he quickly grabbed the garment and rushed to get dressed, pulling the zipper up high. His hectic actions had made him almost lose his footing and he stumbled but when one of the man made a move to grab him, Bond's arm shot out and he pushed the man back against the wall, landing a well-aimed kick at his torso just to be sure. The soldier toppled over and groaned but Bond did hardly notice the shock and confusion on the other faces. He stood straight again, taking a deep breath to calm his hammering heart and again showing a confidence he did not feel. "Get me out of here." He commanded but his voice held none of his usual steely edge. It came out almost pleading. The commanding officer nodded and careful not to get too close to him or touch him in any way, they led the way back to a waiting helicopter. Inside Bond pulled a helmet over his head and sat in the place furthest from the other men who were already eyeing him suspiciously. As soon as the helicopter took off James allowed himself to slump against the wall behind him. Still, he did not close his eyes for one moment on the helicopter flight, nor on the flight to London that followed.
