Welcome to Chapter 3! Our characters share their first...oh you'll see. I definitely had to do some research on castles in Manhattan for this one.

Thank you for the reviews so far!

Chapter 3

It was close to 3am by the time Aimee finally clicked off her phone, letting her poor friend sleep. With a sigh she laid the phone down beside her and let her thoughts creep back to her earlier visit with Brooklyn. She remembered their hands touching and that intense gaze of his. Her stomach flipped when she remembered pressing her fingers to his mouth. An unbidden thought popped into her head. Did Gargoyles kiss each other? It seemed likely; they had a lot of similar human qualities. Did they kiss humans? Was that taboo? Her mind was suddenly consumed with the idea of kissing. An image of Brooklyn kissing her caused a tingly feeling to rush through her upper body. Kiss? Where the hell did that come from?

She made her mind up right then and there, she would ask him tomorrow night. After all, no harm could come from just asking right? It's not like he'd actually want to do that with her anyway. Finally willing herself to sleep, her dreams were filled with strong arms and leathery wings carrying her through the open skies.

Brooklyn had just returned to the castle when he was nearly ambushed by Lexington and Broadway. Angela was nearby but not nearly as interested in Brooklyn's whereabouts that night.

"Where were you so late?" Broadway asked, knowing full well from Lex that he'd been visiting that mysterious girl he'd told them about.

Brooklyn rolled his eyes knowing exactly what they were all up to. "It's really not a big deal, I just went to see Aimee again, she had a lot of questions about us and I had some questions for her too, that's all."

Pondering this for a second Broadway quipped, "So it was a date then?"

Turning to face his brother with an expression of disbelief. "It wasn't a date! There was no dinner or flowers, nothin' like that."

"No, he's got a point Brook." Lex added, "Look at the facts, you went and saw her, you guys got to know each other and I'm willing to bet you and her had some kind physical contact, am I right?"

With an incredulous look on his face Brooklyn was stunned for a few seconds. "N-no! We didn't kiss or nothing like that!"

Angela's cool voice broke through as she looked up from the book she had been reading. "Judging by your flustered mannerisms I would say you did not kiss but you definitely embraced her."

When Brooklyn had no response to this Broadway clapped his hands together in glee. "So it WAS a date then, congratulations buddy!"

"Yep, totally a date." Lex added giving him a knowing look.

Brooklyn gave an exasperated sigh and crossed his arms over his chest sitting down on the couch with a huff. "Whatever…as if she'd ever think of me that way."

His brothers moved to sit on either side of him. "Come on, don't be like that Brook, we were just teasing." Broadway said.

"She did hug you though didn't she?" Lex pressed.

With a sigh his brother answered, "Yeah…but that doesn't mean anything, she was probably just being friendly."

"Could be…but did she ask to see you again?" Broadway asked.

"She did actually, she wants to see me tomorrow." Brooklyn replied with a small smile.

Lex gave an excited squeal. "Yes! Right on my man! You need to bring her something tomorrow." He pounded his smaller fist into his hand. "Flowers! No…that would be too cliché."

"You could bring chocolates!" Broadway interjected. "I know that's what I'd like to get!"

"Actually" Angela piped up. "I think flowers would be perfect. You don't know enough about her to get her a specific gift yet."

Brooklyn pondered their suggestions. "Okay, right, I'll figure something out. Thanks guys." He left to exit the castle, hoping to have some peace. He knew he should be finding Goliath to tell him about Aimee but he couldn't bring himself to just yet. Every time he'd gotten his hopes up about a girl it had ended in disappointment. Besides, he didn't need the lecture from Goliath about keeping the clan safe. He was second-in-command and he'd grown up a lot since crushing on Maggie and Angela.

Dawn was quickly approaching. He climbed up to his perch and allowed his thoughts to run freely as he stared at New York skyline. This time he was going to do it right. If she had feelings for him he was going to find out for sure.

Aimee was having a terrible day; first she'd slept right through her alarm and was late to her first class. It was a heavy workday for her and she was exhausted. She had to attend three classes with only an hour break between them. The final straw being she received a less than stellar grade on her latest assignment and her last class ran late causing her to be unable to leave the university before 6pm.

The sky was getting darker and darker as she walked. Despite Brooklyn being a constant in her mind and the hope of meeting him again she still had some residual fear from her last time walking alone through the city at dusk. If she was attacked again what are the chances he'd come swooping in to save her again?

Rain began to fall as she finally reached her residence. All she could think of was having a hot meal and changing into some comfortable clothes. She hoped the weather would not be an issue for him. He wore just that one loin-cloth thing and she doubted he liked getting completely soaked. Oh well, she told herself, she'd need to be understanding if he decided not to show up.

Reaching her room, she unlocked her door and gave a small sigh of relief. She went about heating herself up some soup and changed into a comfortable pair of matching pyjamas. Cup of tea in hand she sank into her couch to wait for Brooklyn. The stress and anxiety finally melting away as she felt her eyelids become heavy. Before she had realized it she had fallen asleep.

Back at the castle things weren't a picnic for Brooklyn either. Everyone seemed to be getting on his nerves today. He still had to put up with Lexington and Broadway pestering him on bringing a gift for Aimee. He had again tried to avoid Goliath and ended up being forced to have a boring conversation about the Quarrymen and their latest attempts on ridding the city of the Gargoyle menace. To top it all off it was raining hard. Patrol was gonna be a bitch tonight, he just knew it.

"Brooklyn?" Goliath's voice snapped him out of his thoughts. "I asked you what you thought of the latest developments from the Quarrymen."

Brooklyn gave his head a shake and drew his attention back to Goliath. "Sorry, yeah, I think it's pretty bad, just like everything else they do. When do you think they'll make their move?"

Goliath placed his hand on his chin. "I'm not sure. They seem to be building up to something so we need to be ever vigilant. You may patrol alone tonight if you wish but wear your communicator at all times."

Brooklyn smiled finally something was going right for him. "Of course Goliath. I'll be careful, thanks."

The larger gargoyle gave his second-in-command a quick nod and went to give commands to the rest of the clan.

To Brooklyn's relief and despite the rain, he completed his patrol with relatively few encounters. It seemed that criminals liked rain no more than they did. Also to his luck he found some discarded carnations being very careful not to ruin them as he flew. It was still pretty early in the night when he came upon Aimee's balcony however, she was nowhere to be seen. Had she gone out? He hoped this wasn't creepy but he took a peek through her glass balcony doors just to make sure. He was relieved when he saw she had fallen asleep on her couch, a full cup of likely cold tea sat on the end table beside her.

She was only asleep that was okay, but what did he do now? Should he wake her up? No, that wouldn't be nice. Should he try again another night? He could but she might wake up and think he had forgotten about her. He wracked his brain for a moment trying to come up with an answer. Taking one more look around the room he noticed a small table with a landline phone and a small pad of paper and a pen. Immediately the idea struck him and he snapped his fingers.

He'd leave the flowers and write her a quick note. In and out and he wouldn't be an asshole and wake her up. Carefully sliding the door open he stepped inside. Creeping silently over to the phone he picked up the paper and started writing. He nearly had a heart attack when he heard her sigh softly and jerked his head over to where she lay. She only shifted in her sleep, her chest still rise and fell with deep, even breaths.

Finished with the note he left it on the coffee table with the carnations and silently slipped out the sliding door. He shut the door as quietly as he could and took one last look to make sure she was still asleep. Satisfied and with a small smile he took off into the night, it was still raining after all, he'd much rather get back to the castle where it was warm. As he flew, he thought he'd feel disappointed but he didn't. He felt at peace with his decision and hoped they could try again tomorrow night. Either way she'd know he cared.

Hours later Aimee jerked awake. It was still night, but a quick glance at her phone told her is was coming around 4am. She'd slept nearly all night which meant…Brooklyn! She'd slept right through the time where they'd met the two previous nights. She mentally kicked herself, thinking about how he'd probably shown up on her balcony and flown off again when she didn't show up. She was about to get up when a flash of pink caught her eye and she finally noticed her coffee table.

A small bundle of pink carnations and a small note folded over them. She picked up the note and read. A huge smile warmed over her face when she realized it was from Brooklyn.

Aimee

Just wanted to leave you a note to tell you I came by. You looked so peaceful I didn't want to disturb you. I found these flowers for you, I hope you like them. I'll come by tomorrow night.

Sweet dreams.

Brooklyn

P.S sorry for coming in without permission, hope that was okay.

She read the note and re-read it again before placing it down and picking up the carnations. The paper they were wrapped up in looked a little worse for wear but she was going to discard that anyway. She put the flowers in a glass vase and placed it in the center of the coffee table.

The gesture was so sweet she thought her heart would burst. She would absolutely have to thank him for this the next time she saw him. She'd set an alarm next time just in case but she was not going to miss him again. Since it was still dark out she tried to go back to bed and catch a couple more hours of sleep before her next class.

She met up with Becky for lunch that day since her friend was free that day. They had just settled into a coffee shop booth and she was bursting to tell her the latest thing Brooklyn had done for her.

"He left me flowers Bex, how sweet is that?" She said sipping her caramel frappuccino and giving a dreamy sigh.

Her friend tossed her brunette hair and laughed. "Ignoring the fact he snuck in while you were sleeping then yes it's very sweet." She sipped her own coffee. "So this sounds like it's getting serious…" she said raising her eyebrows.

Aimee blushed. "It's probably not like that, he's just being nice. We barely know each other anyway."

Becky looked unconvinced, "You can't fool me Ames, you get the exact same look whenever you get a crush on a guy, ever since high school. Guess it doesn't matter if the 'guy' in question has red skin and flies around at night fighting crime." She said ending the last part in a harsh whisper.

Aimee glanced around to see if they were relatively alone and lowered her voice. "I do not have a crush on Brooklyn…besides he probably wouldn't go for me, I'm just a lowly human, I'm nothing and no one." She finished, eyes cast down to her drink.

Pushing aside the fact that this whole thing was crazy, Becky placed her hand on her friend's drawing her attention back up to her. "Hey, you're not nothing okay? You're worth it and if this gargoyle man can't see that then he's not good enough for you anyway."

She grinned back smiling widely. "Thanks Bex but I promise you, it's innocent I swear. I don't even know enough about him to attempt that. They're like us but different in a lot of ways too…"

Her friend sat back in the booth and nodded with interest. "Well I'm invested now so you gotta keep me up to date on what happens tonight. Just…are you sure you know what you're doing?"

Aimee nodded resolutely. "I have to see this through, I'll be safe, I know he won't hurt me."

"Okay…I trust you." She took a few more sips of her coffee and realized her cup was empty. "Oh damn, guess I gotta go for a refill."

Aimee suddenly grabbed her hand before she could go back to the counter. "Speaking of trust…you haven't told anyone about this right? There's that crazy group that wants them all dead." She said anxiously awaited her friend's answer.

"No, I didn't tell anyone." Becky said with a smile. "I doubt they'd believe me anyway."

Aimee felt relieved as she watched her friend go order more coffee. She didn't even think about Brooklyn and his family's safety the first time she told Becky. She figured a lot of people would have had experiences being saved by Gargoyles and assumed it would be a one-time-thing. Now however as it seemed to be into developing into something more she'd have to be careful. All it took was one phone call and the Quarrymen would know exactly where to find Brooklyn. She shivered slightly thinking his safety could be compromised because of her. Thankfully, she knew she could trust Becky; the two of them had been friends since public school. They were best friends and if anyone could keep a secret it was her.

It was clear that night. Aimee was determined not to miss him this time. When midnight started to approach she heard the sound of footsteps and a breeze ruffled her curtains since she'd left just the screen part of the door closed. Her stomach flipped as she walked over with nervous excitement.

A familiar smooth voice called out softly "Aimee?" she could see his silhouette in her doorway and grinned.

"Here, Brooklyn, I'm awake this time." She went to let him in pulling the screen door open. She surveyed his body as he walked across the threshold. She tried to tell herself that she was just checking for injuries but she let her gaze linger up his toned legs, across is lean chest and over each lightly muscled arm. Finally her gaze fell upon his face, his silver mane, prominent beak and lastly his deep brown eyes.

Finding her voice she breathed, "Thank you for coming. Glad you're not hurt this time."

He too had given her a good long look as soon as he'd walked toward her. Her sandy blond hair was over her shoulder in a loose braid and she wore a comfortable-looking pair of pyjama shorts and tank combo that hugged her slight yet curvy frame. Letting himself look upon her lightly freckled face he saw that she'd taken the time to put on a touch of makeup. The whole look screamed adorable in his mind.

"Uh, thank you for the flowers." She said, hurriedly when he didn't answer right away.

Brooklyn snapped back to reality at that. "You're welcome, I um, I'm glad you liked them." He admired that she'd taken the time to put them in a vase. They were still in pretty good shape due to her careful attention.

"Do you wanna come sit down?" She asked. "Unless you had something else in mind?" Oh God, she regretted those words as soon as they left her mouth. She blushed heavily at the implication.

She couldn't have meant…no, Brooklyn stuttered for a moment. "Uh…I don't…hey! Why don't we go for a glide somewhere?" he rushed out. "I got some pretty nice places we can go."

She blinked and smiled widely. "Absolutely! Let me just change into something a bit warmer." She breathed a sigh of relief that he hadn't picked up on her earlier slip. She quickly changed into some sweat pants and a hoodie in the bathroom and went back into the main living room area.

Brooklyn was already on the balcony waiting for her. Still cute, he thought with a smile noting her outfit change.

Aimee eyed him up and down. "I noticed you don't wear much else, don't Gargoyles get cold?"

He shook his head with a chuckle. "Not really, Gargoyles don't feel cold and extreme temperatures like humans do. Plus tonight it's pretty warm out." He gave his arms a stretch and unfurled his wings. "You ready?"

She nodded, "Yeah, let's go." She stepped closer feeling a tiny shiver as he slipped his arms around her body and hoisted her up against his chest. Her arms wound around his neck holding tightly.

"Hold tight." He said as he jumped off, spreading his wings to catch the strong breeze lifting them high above the building.

That initial drop she decided was something she would never get used to. She kept her eyes open this time though again admiring the lights and sounds that the city had to offer. "So where are we going?" She asked, raising her voice.

He smirked and flew on. "You'll see, I think you'll like it! It's actually pretty close to your place!"

Not long after he said that, she could see they were descending towards Central Park. A castle soon came into view. He brought them right up to the top spire and set her down gently. "Welcome to Castle Belvedere." He said proudly. "It's a pretty good example of the type of place I live in except mines a lot older."

Aimee had heard of this castle but had never had the opportunity to go. "This is amazing!" she said as she took her time walking around the area in which they landed. There was a great view of the park but also the surrounding buildings. "This is so cool," suddenly she launched herself into his arms again wrapping her arms tightly around his neck. "Thank you for bringing me." She said, her voice slightly muffled against his neck.

Brooklyn allowed himself to hug her back, holding her a bit tighter this time being mindful of his claws. "You're welcome," he said with a small chuckle. "It sounded like your kinda thing."

She released him, beaming. "Absolutely, old castles are definitely my thing." She walked toward the stone barrier and rested her forearms on it.

Brooklyn mimicked her behaviour leaning beside her. "Maybe one day you'll get to see Castle Wyvern." He said in a quiet voice.

She turned to him. "Is that the name of your castle?" she asked.

He nodded, "Yeah, it's been our home since before we came here. You'd love it."

Aimee shifted closer playfully bumping her shoulder against his and grinning. "Well I hope I get to see it someday."

Again he nodded in agreement. "Someday." He said smiling wistfully as he looked at the view down below.

After a while Aimee could feel her head starting to droop. Without meaning to she felt herself lean against his broad shoulder, covered with his wings that he'd clasped to his chest. She felt him stiffen a bit at the contact but felt his arm wind around her waist as she leaned a little more heavily on him. His wings were like the softest velour she had ever felt.

"You gettin' tired?" he asked in a soft voice.

"Yeah…but I don't wanna go back just yet." She drummed up her courage; she had to know about what she had been wondering about earlier. "Do gargoyles kiss?"

Brooklyn jumped slightly, her question catching him off guard. Clearing his throat he answered. "Yeah…we do…" His follow-up question hung in the air, she wanted to know this because…?

Her voice lowered as she spoke again. "Does it feel good like it does for humans?"

Man she was asking some tough questions tonight. Where had this come from? Deciding he might as well be honest with her, he shifted his body so he could face her better. "…I wouldn't know; I've never kissed anyone before."

Aimee lifted her head from his shoulder and let her eyes meet his. She couldn't help but be a little shocked. "How come? Aren't there girl gargoyles around?"

He let out a bark of laughter followed by a snort. "Actually less than you think. The only female we have in our clan currently is Angela and she's mated to my brother Broadway." He scratched the back of his head huffing in embarrassment. "I…haven't had too much luck finding a girl yet."

Aimee's lips formed an 'o' as she suddenly realized that she might be one of the first girls to ever show an interest in him this way. Throwing caution into the wind she gently touched his forearm bringing his attention back to her. "You can try with me." She said giving him a shy smile.

Brooklyn just stared in astonishment. Did she just offer what he think she offered? Finding his voice finally he said. "You-you want me to try…with you?"

She gave him a nervous smile. "Sure, then you can see what it feels like. Better to try with a friend, right?"

Still stunned he gave her a slow nod. "R-right." He turned to face her but he had absolutely no idea how to proceed. "How should I…"

Realizing she'd have to take the reins on this she stepped closer into his personal space. "Follow my lead, when I start to lean in you do the same." Hands on his forearms and heart pounding she let herself move closer, aiming for the very end of his beak.

Brooklyn thought he was going to die right then and there. Here was this beautiful girl attempting to give him a kiss. He did not want to screw this up. Gently placing his hands on her shoulders he moved in closer like she said. Please don't hate this was the last coherent thought he had as their lips touched.

Aimee's eyes slipped closed as she felt him lean into her grasping her shoulders and trying to angle his lips on hers. It was different for sure but a good different. His wide mouth fit almost perfectly on hers and she felt a pleasant buzz forming within her stomach. Her hands gripped him tighter as she pulled away and moved in again trying a new angle. It felt good…really good.

Brooklyn thought his heart stopped the moment her soft lips touched his. She felt incredible and there was an urge to pull her closer. He was desperately fighting it, not wanting to scare her. His heart sank when he felt her pull away slightly but was floored when she touched his lips again, tightening her grip on his arms. This new angle was even better and he wanted more.

This was going way better than she thought it would. She needed to try something else, and hoped he would follow her lead. Pulling away slightly she latched onto him again and moved her lips against his, flicking her tongue at he entrance of his mouth.

Brooklyn's eyes nearly shot open in surprise and he had to suppress a groan. This was too good, way too good. He knew what she was doing; he'd seen enough sappy romance movies with Angela to know she was attempting to give him a French kiss. That was an excellent idea he decided and wound his arms around her a bit more tightly. This type of kiss required him to open his mouth slightly and flick his tongue against hers. He felt her shiver in his arms.

All coherent thoughts were leaving Aimee's head as she felt his tongue meet hers. Her arms seemed to move on their own accord winding themselves around his neck as her body pressed closer against his. She let her tongue tangle with his and caught his lower lip and sucked. A deep groan rumbled through his chest causing her to pull back in surprise.

Too good, too good, he couldn't help the sound he'd made and hoped he didn't scare her. The two of them stood for a second breathing heavily still entangled in each other's arms. "Wow…" he breathed. "That was…"

She nodded, her cheeks flushed pink "I know…for someone who's never kissed before you're pretty good at that…" She slowly let her arms slip from around his neck but kept them on his forearms giving him a shy smile.

He let her take a step back and gave her a slow grin. "I guess I had a good teacher then."

The words tumbled out before she could stop them, "I could do more than that." She said and blushed harder. "I-I mean, with kissing, there's more to it than that." She said thinking she could die of embarrassment right then and there.

Brooklyn gave her an amused smile and tried to act cool about all of this. He could not believe his luck and but as unbelievable as it seemed there was no way in hell he would say no to her. "Babe, that would be amazing."

Letting out a breath she gave him a relieved smile. "Tomorrow night then."

"Tomorrow." Without warning her he suddenly swept her into his arms grinning when he heard a sharp intake of breath and felt her grab on tight. "It's late I should get you home."

A short flight later they stood on her balcony to say their goodbyes. Aimee took his clawed hands in her own and leaned up to kiss the side of his beak. "Good night Brooklyn, thank you for everything."

He scoffed, "I should be the one thanking you. You were amazing tonight. Sleep well okay?"

She rubbed her thumb on the back of his hand, "You too." She said and watched as he leapt away, only turning to go back inside once he was completely out of sight.

Securing the door she took a few deep breaths and laid down in her bed. So…that really happened. I actually kissed a gargoyle and it felt amazing.

Her last thought before she felt asleep was, 'I'm in trouble.' A good kind of trouble…

End Chapter 3

A/N Oooh the first kiss. I need to point out that I know Brooklyn's beak would make it appear that kissing would be difficult or impossible so artistic liberties are taken here and I made him have lips at the end of his beak for the sake of this story. In the show he uses his beak to talk, smile and do everything the others can so I can only assume it's flexible enough to kiss.
