Chapter 5
Aimee woke up the next morning feeling slightly disoriented but perfectly rested. She had been able to sleep in a bit due to her first class starting around noon. She was glad she could actually take her time getting ready. She thought back to last night. Despite all her fears the night had gone great. She felt all warm and fuzzy upon realizing that he'd put her to bed before leaving.
Maybe I should do something for him, she thought. Cook for him maybe, she wondered what kind of food he liked. She began to put together a date night and planned to cook something really tasty. She'd have to check her schedule to see when assignments were due and exams were scheduled.
She crashed back to reality at that last thought. Exam week would be starting soon and she needed to give it her complete focus. Not to mention she had a couple assignments due that she'd been neglecting for the past couple days.
With a groan she realized she was going to have to tell Brooklyn they would have to cool it for a while. At least until exam week was over. She hoped he would understand. Her education was important to her and she wanted to do well. She'd have to tell him tonight if he decided to visit.
At sundown however, he didn't visit right away causing her to assume he'd gotten caught up with something. She sat down with her laptop to get some work done while she waited.
Goliath had called an important meeting as soon as they'd woken from their stone sleep. Elisa had been there to greet them all. Happy as they were to see her, she brought with her grave news about the Quarrymen.
"There's been a lot of activity around the docks concerning illegal weapons shipments lately." Elisa explained. "We've had undercover cops staking out the area for days. We don't know what they're planning but there's enough ammunition to level a small town." She said.
Goliath's deep voice rumbled as he came to a decision, "We'll check it out, if we can catch them in the act then we may be able to prevent whatever they are planning."
Elisa nodded, giving him a smile. "That might be best, don't engage if you find yourselves outnumbered though. We're just a call away." She said giving him a wink. Goliath grinned back and put his hand on her shoulder.
"Thank you, Elisa. I'll be sure to do that." He said, lowering his voice an octave to speak the last part.
Brooklyn noticed this exchange it was subtle but the two of them were definitely flirting with each other. He was suddenly filled with hope that if they could do it, so could he. Goliath's next words however dashed any and all hopes he had about spending time with Aimee tonight.
"I'm going to need all of you tonight." He said, his eyes flicking to Brooklyn. "Yes, especially you." He turned to the others. "We leave in five minutes, ready yourselves."
Brooklyn suddenly pulled Lexington aside. "Hey, you got any extra communicators?" he asked.
His smaller brother thought for a moment. "Yeah, actually, why?"
He beckoned Lex to follow him away from the others. "I wanna give one to Aimee just in case she needs me, is there any way you can turn the frequency so it's only between me and her?"
"Hmm…" Lex said, deep in thought for a moment. "Yep! I can do that, gimme a sec." He dashed inside the castle returning a couple minutes later with a communicator strung around a black cord. "If she calls you on this only you will hear it."
Brooklyn smiled widely and gave him a brotherly slap on the back. "That's perfect Lex, thanks!"
"So things are going well I'm guessing?" Lex asked with a sly grin.
Brooklyn gave a low chuckle and returned a grin of his own. "You could say that…thanks again, I gotta go talk to Goliath for a sec."
As the others prepared to take off Brooklyn approached Goliath speaking in a lower tone. "No chance of stopping by Aimee's first is there?"
Goliath's gaze softened a bit as he shook his head. "Unfortunately we cannot wait for you to do that, however, if there is time afterwards you may be free to pay her a short visit."
Brooklyn sighed but nodded in the affirmative. "I understand Goliath, let's go."
From the castle five Gargoyles took flight. Hudson had stayed behind with Bronx just in case things went sour.
Brooklyn thought of Aimee and realized with a pang of guilt that she would be waiting for him. He hoped she understood and planned on making it up to her as soon as he could. He tucked the communicator into the inner pocket of his loincloth and took off to join the others.
It was a covert operation at the docks. Goliath had instructed everyone to lay low and observe. If they spotted any suspicious behaviour they were not to engage but to report to Goliath first.
There was little activity until around midnight when several members of the clan noticed a small group of Quarrymen gathering at the docks. They convened in an abandoned warehouse. The Gargoyles took up spots near the roof trying to listen in.
As usual their leader John Castaway addressed the group and went into his whole Gargoyles are monsters and abominations of nature lecture. Nothing they hadn't heard before. He began to explain that they were gathering weapons for a showdown. "We'll blast them out of the sky!" an overly enthusiastic voice shouted. There were more than 50 people; far too many for the gargoyles to take on themselves.
Finally the group disbanded, and only a small amount of people were left, John Castaway and a few of his most loyal members. He was speaking to them in lower tones; the gargoyles including Brooklyn had to strain his ears to listen in.
"We've got to try a different angle to flush the creatures out of hiding." John was saying to his men. "Obviously the policewoman is out of the question, much too difficult to pin down."
Brooklyn could see Goliath visibly relax knowing that Elisa was safe from this madman.
"But what about other people they might have befriended…surely the Gargoyles have made other friends besides her." Brooklyn flinched at that comment.
"But Boss, no friend of the gargoyles is going to willingly turn them over." One of the henchmen exclaimed.
"Yes very true which is why we have to watch and wait. We offer up a large enough reward to anyone who's seen a human fraternizing with a Gargoyle and we use it as leverage. Besides, once we know who they are we all know we're not above taking a hostage in order to complete our goals."
Brooklyn immediately stiffened, clenching his fists at those words. A low growl rumbled in his chest. His protective instincts were threatening to take over. He had to stop himself from going down there and giving those men a savage beating for even thinking of such a nasty idea.
"Great idea boss, I'll get my guys on it right away." The meeting finally concluded and they made there way into an armoured vehicle.
Brooklyn was prepared to leap after them when Goliath's strong arm came across his chest preventing his movement. "No Brooklyn, there is no reason we should launch a pursuit at this time."
"But Goliath! They just gave an open threat to anyone who is seen with us. How can I protect Aimee now?" He growled, still fuming.
Goliath gave his second-in-command a sympathetic look. "My friend, I do not wish to tell you to stop seeing her but with this new threat we must be even more careful of our whereabouts. You must not be seen."
While Brooklyn was grateful that he had not been told outright that he had to stop seeing her, he knew this was going to cause some issues. "I understand Goliath." He answered. "I gotta give her something first." He said fishing out the communication device Lex had given him.
Goliath gave him a nod. "Good idea." To the rest of the clan he said, "You may return home now, let us go in peace."
When the others had flown off, Brooklyn set out for Aimee's residence building hyper-vigilant that he wasn't being followed. The lights were all off when he touched down and he knew she was asleep.
Instead of in her bed she was hunched over the side of her couch, her black laptop still on her. He stroked her hair for a minute and smiled when she emitted a happy hum. He placed the laptop on the table and gave her a gentle kiss on her forehead.
"Mmm…Brooklyn…"she said in a light, sleepy voice.
She was still asleep he noted with an amused smile. He crouched down beside her to continue to stroke her hair and let his hand slide down her back.
"Mm, tha-feels good." She murmured.
Getting a little more bold he gently gathered her into his arms and placed her in her bed, tugging the covers over her. He was about to leave when her hand closed around her wrist. "Don't leave me yet…" she mumbled.
Keeping his wings clasped upon his chest, Brooklyn climbed in bed beside her. He gathered her into his arms, wrapping one around her chest and curling the other around her belly. He let his face rest in her hair as he took a deep breath of her scent.
"Where were you tonight?" Her sleepy voice asked him.
He nuzzled her hair and answered, "Sorry…we all had to go tonight, had to stake out a Quarrymen meeting."
More awake now, she asked. "You didn't get hurt did you?" her hands grasped his forearm and bicep tightly.
"No, no, it was a reconnaissance mission. We didn't make contact with them." He pulled her as close as he could, relishing the feel of her in his arms. "I got some bad news though."
"I do too actually…" Aimee said with a sigh.
Brooklyn made a contemplative sound, his breath tickled her ear and she shivered slightly. "You go first then." He said.
"Well, exam week is coming up and I'm going to need to devote all my time and attention to studying and finishing up any assignments that are due. I'm not going to have a lot of time to see you." She finished sadly.
He gave her a quick squeeze and rubbed one of his hands up her arm. "Don't worry about it. It actually kinda works with what I was about to tell you. The Quarrymen are going to start targeting our friends in an attempt to get to us. If anyone sees us together they'll be offered a ton of money to provide information. That's why you can't tell anyone else that I've been seeing you. I know you already told Becky but you'll have to impress upon her how important it is that she keep quiet about this." Giving her another squeeze he added. "I couldn't live with myself if something happened to you because of me."
Aimee suddenly turned in his arms so that they now lay face to face. She unfolded her arms and wrapped them tightly around his body and pulling herself so that their bodies were flush with one another. She felt him reciprocate by wrapping both his arms and his wings around her she could hear the steady rhythm of his heart and feel the rise and fall of his chest. "I already told Becky to keep it to herself and she won't tell anyone, you can trust her. I'm so sorry Brooklyn…it's awful that they're doing that."
"Which is why I brought you something," Brooklyn fished out the communicator and showed it to her. "This will let you contact me and only me. If anything happens to you, or…you just wanna talk, press this button. If you need me, don't care where I am or what I'm doing, I'll come for you." He said, gazing intensely into her eyes.
Overwhelmed by this display of affection she quickly pulled his face down to hers and kissed him deeply.
He barely had time to drop the communicator on her nightstand before she attacked his mouth with hers; he reacted by wrapping his arms around her once more, pushing a hand into her hair, letting her overtake his mouth. It was more intense this time. Before, the kisses they shared before were sweet and mostly for learning purposes. This one was raw, desperate and needy. He growled into her mouth as he felt hot tongue graze his and her hands rubbing up and dawn his back, follow the path of his spine.
Aimee knew this was crazy, they were still getting to know each other, they shouldn't be getting this close yet but she couldn't stop herself. It felt so good and she wanted this so badly. She pulled away to catch her breath and gave a slight moan when she felt his lips move from hers and down pressing several open-mouthed kisses into the hollow of her neck.
Brooklyn liked that sound; she absolutely needed to make that sound again. He nuzzled her neck and placed kisses down the column of her throat working his way back up to her lips. He moved his hand rubbing down her back let it dip under her shirt needing to feel bare skin.
Aimee's skin tingled as it made contact with his and she made an 'mmm' sound against his lips. She moved her hand from his back to let it rest on his well-toned stomach; she slowly moved her hand up to his chest, relishing the feel of those strong muscles beneath her fingers. She felt rather than heard him moan, the noise rumbled through his chest as she continued exploring his upper body. She grabbed the hand that was under her shirt and brought it up to her stomach, just below her breasts.
Brooklyn was desperately fighting for control. The air had changed between them and he could smell her arousal. His mating instincts were on high alert: take her...claim her.
Ripping his mouth from hers he stilled her hand and took a few steadying breaths. "W-we gotta stop." He said, his voice thick with arousal.
Shocked for a minute, Aimee nodded numbly trying to push down the sting of disappointment and the feeling that she'd done something wrong.
Sensing that she was upset he continued, stroking a claw down her cheek, "Because if we don't I won't be able to stop."
Hurt gave way to confusion then. "I didn't do anything wrong just now?" she clarified.
Brooklyn gave her an incredulous smile. "Oh babe…you did everything right. It's just my mating instincts were screaming at me…and I know we're not ready for that yet."
Realizing what he was talking about she was struck by the reality of the situation. "Oh…OH, you mean sex…I guess that answers that question…"
He chuckled, "What question, can we have sex? How do you think I came to be?" he asked unable to resist teasing her a bit.
She blushed, "I don't know, I thought maybe you were brought to life by magic or something."
He laughed again. "Magic actually is a thing but no, I hatched out of an egg. In gargoyle clans, well larger ones, they have mated pairs and when the females bear their eggs, the young belong to everyone. You never know who your mother and your father are, instead whole clan watches over you. In our case though we don't have enough females. Our leader Goliath was reunited with his biological daughter last year. It's pretty plain to see that she is his daughter but that's a unique case and she's already mated to my brother Broadway."
She nodded; it was fascinating to learn more about the way his kind lived. "So…sex isn't off the table then." She said grinning.
He fixed her with another intense gaze. "Absolutely not, our leader is in a serious relationship with a human. She's a good friend of ours. But…we should probably wait, take things slow, plus we're gonna have to be careful now on."
"You're right, I'm sorry I let things get a little out of control tonight." She said, "Thank you for the…thing, I'll call you."
Brooklyn gave her a soft kiss on her forehead and chuckled. "You did nothing wrong and it's a communicator. You can wear it around your neck, just make sure you keep it hidden." He moved then to get out of the bed. "I should let you get some sleep now."
She threw her arms around his neck once more almost causing him to fall directly on top of her. "I'll miss you," she said, "Please, please be safe."
He held her tightly. "You too." He rubbed his hands up and down her back. "I'll let you know when it's okay for us to meet."
She released him finally and watched him step toward her back door. "Goodbye Brooklyn."
Turning to take one last look at her he said, "Bye Aimee, good luck with your tests and stuff." He slipped out her back door then and was gone.
Aimee sat in bed and tried not to cry, it was ridiculous, it wasn't like he was gone forever. She picked up the small round communicator and hugged it close to her chest. There was absolutely no denying it now, she definitely had feelings for him and judging how close they'd gotten, he felt the same way.
Laying back down in her bed she knew sleep would not come easily. She was still extremely turned on from their previous actions and made the quick choice to relieve some of her tension. She wondered if Gargoyles did the same and giggled slightly to herself. She concluded that if they could have sex then they probably knew how to pleasure themselves as well.
She couldn't have been more right; the first thing Brooklyn did when he got home was head straight for the bathroom. Gargoyles did not usually need showers, the stone sleep pretty much took care of that, but tonight he was going to have a cold shower, or a hot one. He decided on hot, shedding his loincloth he stepped under the spray and tried to work out how close they'd come to actually doing it…
He groaned slightly as he remembered her soft body pressed up against his and her clever hands exploring his chest and back. It felt so damn good. Just the thought of the sounds she had made when he'd kissed her neck were enough to get him hard.
Splaying one hand on the shower wall he hesitated for a moment. He was no stranger to using his hand to let off some steam but it was different this time. Before it was just the thought of doing those things that got him turned on, now he had an actual had a face, body and all the wonderful sensations that went with having a girlfriend. He was also no stranger to pornography either, it was not something he would seek out but he'd seen it and read about it. There were some very descriptive books in the castle library. They all paled in comparison to her, and he hadn't even seen her naked yet!
Biting back another groan he took himself in hand and hissed in pleasure. He thought of her beautiful face her unique eyes and how they had darkened after he'd kissed her senseless. He fell into a slow rhythm, moving his hand up and down. He thought about how good it would be to feel more skin, to see what her breasts looked like. He wanted her to have her show him what she liked. Where and how she liked to be touched. He quickened his pace when he imagined her showing him, and how she would look writhing in pleasure as he brought her to her peak.
He let out another long groan; he was getting close now. Thinking back to their earlier activities he recalled the sharp tang of her arousal. She had wanted him just as much as he wanted her. That, coupled with the hard press of her breasts and the little sounds she had made was enough push him over the edge. He let out one final moan as he pumped himself a couple more times, his whole body tensing in pleasure as he rode out his orgasm. He took a couple of ragged breaths, splaying both hands on the cool tile of the shower wall.
Not seeing her for a while was going to be harder than he thought.
In the following days, everyone seemed to be on edge. Brooklyn had not heard from Aimee. It was both a good and a somewhat depressing. On one hand, he was glad she was safe and putting all of her energy into her studies. On the other, he really missed her and it was unfortunately causing him to be moody and short-tempered.
He hadn't told the others how close they had came the other night. He was not the type to kiss and tell. Plus it would just make him miss her more. To his added irritation there was no new development with the Quarrymen. The trail had gone completely cold.
Goliath still expected them to go out each night and help where they could but they were not to linger. They were to do nothing to call attention to themselves. Brooklyn also noticed that Goliath had been spending an increasing amount of time with Elisa. Jealousy curled its around him as he watched Goliath glide off yet again to go see her. He couldn't help but feel how incredibly unfair it was that Goliath could go see Elisa and he wasn't able to go see Aimee.
Broadway and the others and noticed the shift in Brooklyn's mood but they were waiting for him to open up to them. They knew he liked to keep to himself on these types of things.
It all came to a head a couple nights later. Brooklyn was stalking around the castle like a caged lion. Broadway had been carrying a glass of cola and accidentally collided with Brooklyn spilling the drink all over the both of them.
"Hey, Watch it!" Brooklyn yelled in irritation, shaking liquid from his arms.
Broadway had grown sick and tired of his brother's moodiness and snapped back, "You were the one who wasn't looking, you've been distracted for days!"
Brooklyn shoved past him, "Just leave me alone," he growled.
"Why? So you can go brood some more about Aimee? Newsflash Brooklyn, it's been awful for us too. We've all been cooped up so stop acting like you're the only one who's in a bad mood here!" he said knowing he was hitting him where it hurt but enough was enough.
Brooklyn bristled when Broadway mentioned her name and turned with a glare. "Then how come everyone else is able to spend time with their significant others and I'm stuck here day after day with nothing?!"
Now Broadway's anger melted away into confusion. "But, Goliath said you could still see Aimee if you were careful so why haven't you?"
"Because she-she hasn't called me." Brooklyn said with a sigh of defeat. "She's got school stuff and she told me she was going to be doing exams or something like that but I probably freaked her out about the whole Quarrymen thing. Stupid! I'm such an idiot!" he said punching the castle wall in his frustration.
"Whoa buddy…calm down. I think you better walk me through your last visit with her." Broadway said gently.
Brooklyn groaned slightly. "Ugh, fine, but we talk on the top turret, I don't want anyone else listening in."
Broadway nodded and swooped up to the top of the castle following Brooklyn there.
One there the two sat side by side as Brooklyn recalled the night he had given her the communicator.
"…and then we made out for a bit in her bed and things kinda got hot if you know what I mean." Brooklyn finished.
Broadway was grinning ear to ear. "No way! Did you…" he asked, raising his eye ridges twice in a suggestive manner.
Brooklyn chuckled at his display. "No, we didn't, but I wanted to…hell, I could tell she wanted it as well but it was too soon. Anyway, after that we said our goodbyes and now here we are a week later almost." He sighed. "Did I mess things up?
Broadway gave a quick shake of his head. "No, Brooklyn I don't think you did anything wrong, I think I know what's going on here." He placed his hand on his brother's shoulder. "You're scared for her, so you're not calling, and she's scared for you, so she's not calling. Also it is possible she is just completely swamped with work." He dropped his hand. "Get it now?"
Brooklyn nodded, feeling lighter than he had in days. "That makes a ton of sense actually, thanks for that."
"No problem, buddy. Now I hope you'll be a bit more pleasant to be around from now on." Broadway said with a grin.
Brooklyn gave a light chuckle. "No promises." He teased. "I'm sorry though, about before, it was hard watching you and Angela spend time together, and Goliath has been going to see Elisa a lot. Even Lex has his online friends; he's actually found other Gargoyles. I couldn't help but feel a little jealous." He admitted.
"Totally understand, buddy. I'm sure you'll see Aimee again soon." Broadway said, patting him on the back a few times.
"Oh yeah, so that's the thing, do I keep waiting for her to call me or do I call her?" Brooklyn asked.
Broadway pondered this for a moment. "I think waiting is best, but do whatever feels right. At least you know she's safe, right?"
"Right," Brooklyn agreed telling himself that he would try his best to improve his mood from now on.
Unbeknownst to him, Aimee was having just as tough a time spending day after day without seeing him. She'd called Becky over on a night where they both were free for the time being.
She almost felt like crying when she opened the door to reveal her friend's kind face giving her a sympathetic look.
After the initial catch-up, both girls sat on her couch with a hot cup of herbal tea. Coffee only would have made her more jittery at this point.
"It's been six days Bex…I should not be this upset but I am." She said, frowning into her teacup.
Going for the obvious question she asked. "Then why haven't you called him? He gave you a way, why haven't you used it?"
Aimee released an exasperated sigh. "Because, what if someone sees him and the Quarrymen come after him? What if they figure out it's me and use me to get to him, to hurt him? I couldn't…" she trailed off remembering his words. "…live with myself if he got hurt because of me."
Becky have her friend a quick nod. "I get it, you're stuck in a rock and a hard place when you'd rather be stuck under him with his hard place." She finished with a wink.
Laughter bubbled out of her before she could stop it. "Becky!" she cried, looking at her aghast.
Becky calmly sipped her tea, "What? It's written all over your face. I know you've felt it."
Aimee blushed. "I haven't felt it without clothing…we had a pretty heavy makeout session the last time we were here but he stopped us before we went further. He thought it was too soon." She said.
Becky raised an eyebrow. "Okay, different. Usually it's the girl who says stuff like that but go on."
"Well, he had a point, we hadn't known each other that long and I still don't know a lot about Gargoyle mating practices. Apparently they have strong instincts and once they get started they can't stop." Aimee said, laughing a bit at her friend's shocked expression.
"Wow, okay, wasn't expecting that but I guess it was good he put on the brakes then, also guess that answers my question of whether they can have sex or not." Becky said with a breath.
Aimee gave a vigorous nod. "Yep, absolutely they can, no idea though if pregnancy could be a factor, or how rough things can possibly get but we can figure that out later." She released a sad sigh. "I just really miss him."
Again going for the obvious Becky said, "Just call him then, if you're both so worried about safety then he doesn't have to come over just talk, jeez you two are ridiculous." She finished.
Aimee hadn't considered that. "I never thought of it that way…"
"That's because you overthink all the possible ways things can go wrong, you ignore the logical options." Becky said. "Just call him and let him know you're okay, I'm sure he's missing you just as much."
Aimee sipped her tea giving her friend a grateful smile, "Okay, I'll try that, thanks Bex."
Later, once Becky had left, Aimee had completed her bedtime routine and was now in bed. She took the communicator in her hand and pressed the button down just as he taught her. "Brooklyn…?"
End chapter 5
A/N So...hopefully that was okay? I wanted to explore the possibility that Gargoyles would use self-pleasure...they're human in many ways. Anyway please leave a review if you liked the chapter as a whole.
