A/N This chapter follows along closely with the last episode of the series in The Goliath Chronicles - Angels In The Night. I did my best to use dialogue from that episode and fit it in with the story. If you made it this far I hope you enjoyed it! It was a lot of fun for me to write.

Disclaimer: I do not own Gargoyles or any of its components.

Chapter 11

Brooklyn was unable to meet with her the following night. He had been dragged into a long patrol that lasted most of the night. They had just saved a woman from being mugged, what she was doing out there so late at night was anyone's guess. She still ran away screaming at them to stay away from her.

"That's gratitude for ya…" he scoffed.

He yawned as they glided for home. "Man, I'm ready to call it a night." He griped inwardly, he would much rather have spent the night wrapped in Aimee's warm embrace rather than save ungrateful humans. A nearby crash interrupted his thoughts. "Then again…" he sighed.

Goliath wanted them to take a look and they flew to a construction site of a new skyscraper. They heard the sound of a little girl crying for help. None of them noticed the sign out from that read: FUTURE HOME OF THE CASTAWAY CORPORATION.

Thinking a little girl had fallen into the foundation of the unfinished building they all hopped inside without a second thought. Everyone except Angela and Bronx. Angela had been patrolling elsewhere with Bronx as her companion.

Blinding lights suddenly illuminated the room. Before they could react a metal grid slid across the top. It was becoming painfully obvious that they had been lured into a trap. The voice of the child was a recording.

"Someone sure went to a lot of trouble to reel us in." Lexington said with a glare.

Goliath tried to break through the top but the metal was electrified and shocked him back down to the floor.

Brooklyn was panicking internally. "This is NOT a good place to turn to stone." Sunrise was fast approaching and there was seemingly no way out.

Broadway commented saying things were about to get worse as a panel then slid open revealing a bomb with one minute left on it. He called Angela on his communicator warning her to find shelter. She had refused and was trying to come rescue them.

Shit, shit, shit. Brooklyn could only watch in horror as he and his clan were about to be blown to bits. "Nooo!" he cried as he saw the sun's rays light up the sky. Aimee I'm sorry…was his final thought before they helplessly turned to stone.

Angela tried to reach them but she was too late, she turned to stone in mid-flight, skidding to the ground along with Bronx. The explosion was deafening, bringing the entire building down with it.

Two Quarrymen drove up and congratulated themselves on a job well done. Finally the Gargoyles had been destroyed. Castaway was going to be very pleased.

They reported the explosion, pinning it all on the Gargoyles. Pretty soon the site was swarming with fire fighters, police and TV news reporters.

Gabriel Stone who had been up early that morning, had just turned on the news when his eyes widened. He quickly ran to Aimee's room. "Aimee honey, wake up, you need to see this."

Aimee groaned sleepily, still exhausted from last night's efforts between her and Brooklyn. "Wha…what's goin' on?"

"The news, it's about the Gargoyles." He father said quickly.

The tone of panic in his voice roused her immediately and she followed him to the living room.

"-Claiming that the Gargoyles had entered the premises carrying a suspicious metal case just before the blast." The reporter was saying.

"That's a lie!" she cried. "They would never…"

"Also in question…the fate of the two surviving Gargoyles. Who now may be the very last of their kind."

Last of their…she turned to look at her father in shock. "What. Happened?"

There was an explosion early morning…they're claiming the Gargoyles bombed a building and got caught in the blast…I'm sorry sweetie…"

It was like she had been immersed in a bucket of ice water at his words. She shook her head covering her mouth with her hand. "No…no! I won't believe it! They can't be…he can't be…" tears forced their way out and she fell to the ground. "Brooklyn…"

Her father was there at her side, gathering her into his arms as she cried. "I'm so sorry…I never wanted this to happen."

She sobbed harder clutching her father's pyjama shirt, her heart shattering into a million pieces.

Elisa too, believed the Gargoyles were truly gone. She could not allow herself to grieve, she needed to deliver the terrible news to Angela and prove the Gargoyles were not behind the explosion.

The Assistant D.A. was completely convinced it was the Gargoyles who planted the bomb and intended to charge Angela with conspiracy and terrorism.

Elisa felt as if she was trapped in a bad dream. Tears threatened to fall. She nearly gave in when her cell phone rang...Mr. Xanatos had requested to see her right away.

Figuring she had nothing left to lose, she drove her red convertible straight to Xanatos Industries.

It was dusk when she arrived. A short elevator ride later the doors opened revealing David's assistant Owen.

Owen spoke first. "Good to see you again Detective, Mr. Xanatos realizes this must have been a most difficult day for you."

"He has no idea." She sighed.

Owen led her to the room where Mr. Xanatos was waiting. "Thank you for coming right away." he greeted.

"I tried to see Angela but I've been barred from visiting her cell." She said sadly.

"Yes, I understand Ms. Yale has branded you a Gargoyle sympathizer." David quipped.

She cleared her throat. "hm, I guess I am." She sighed again looking at the darkening sky. "Any minute now, Angela will wake up to find out the clan's dead…the whole world is against her." Elisa said bitterly. "And she's all alone…"

"Not quite all alone." Xanatos said with a clever grin and clicked a button on a remote in his hand. The wall slid open to reveal the completely intact stone figures of the Manhattan clan. Almost immediately they roared to life, shattering their stone skin.

Elisa gasped in surprise, she had never felt so relieved in her life.

Goliath was disoriented for a second as he glanced at their surroundings. "What happened?"

Elisa rushed into his arms. "Goliath! You're alive!" she cried, smiling up at him as he gently took her hands.

It was then that Xanatos revealed he had known all along that the Quarrymen had planned this attack. He had secretly had a spy bribe the construction workers to install some modifications. He added a turning platform that allowed the Gargoyles to be transferred to a protective chamber, shielding them from the blast. Fake stone rubble replaced them and would make the Quarrymen think they had been successful.

Brooklyn was so grateful he could've kissed Xanatos but he was shocked at what he was suggesting. Since the city assumed they died in the blast it was a chance to start over new somewhere else. Brooklyn knew he could never do that to Aimee.

A chill suddenly ran through him. She would've seen the news reports...she probably thought he was dead!

Luckily Goliath disagreed saying they could not abandon that which they chose to protect.

They needed to rescue Angela and Bronx as well. Brooklyn suggested they show the police they were still alive but that idea was shot down by Hudson who argued that they would be locked up as well.

Elisa urged them to do nothing, explaining that Angela and Bronx were safe for now. She headed downtown to speak with Margot Yale, the Assistant D.A. in charge of the case against Angela.

After speaking with her, well forcing her way into her office to speak with her. Yale explained that they were moving Angela to a facility upstate since the streets were full of anti-gargoyle rioters. Elisa was to be head of security on the train.

Brooklyn was beyond frustrated. Here they were, stuck in the castle watching people refer to them as 'giant bats' while Aimee was probably beside herself with grief.

He switched the TV off with a frustrated sigh. "Did any of you think about Xanatos suggesting a fresh start somewhere?"

"I could definitely go for a place that would let me meet other Gargoyles." Lexington said.

"Other female Gargoyles you mean." Broadway smirked. "I for one am happy to stay right here. They've got the best pizza."

Brooklyn raked a hand through his hair. "I can't leave Aimee you guys, you were all right, she's my mate now and I love her."

Goliath's deep voice spoke up. "We deserve a place in human society. We have fought and suffered to gain acceptance, not because it was easy but because it was right. We will not throw that all away."

Elisa contacted Goliath then to tell him she was on the red-eye commuter train to Albany. Bronx and Angela were on the last car and she was hired on as security in case the Quarrymen attacked.

They all made the decision then to go after the train to make sure Angela and Bronx were alright.

Now that they had a direction Brooklyn said. "I gotta do something first. I have to let Aimee know I'm alive."

He left before anyone could stop him and flew straight to Aimee's apartment. He saw that her bedroom window was lit. He dug his claws into the side of the building and looked in. The sight before him broke his heart. Aimee was curled into a tight ball sobbing into a pillow. Judging by the redness on her cheeks and nose it looked as if she had been crying most of the day. He quickly tapped on the window, startling her.

"What…?" She slowly looked up and gasped in shock, shaking her head. "It can't be..." she took another look. It really was him!

"Oh my God, Brooklyn!" She jumped out of bed and yanked her window open. "You're okay! I thought you were…" her lip quivered again and she fell into his arms sobbing.

He held her tightly. "I'm so sorry you had to see that. The Quarrymen set a trap for us but Xanatos saved us from being turned into rubble."

"I could kiss that man." She hiccupped, wiping away her tears.

He chuckled slightly. "I thought the same thing when he told us what happened."

Aimee's father walked by her doorway then and nearly dropped his coffee. "Brooklyn?! ...I'm glad you are still with us." He said raising an eyebrow.

"I'm so sorry for worrying both of you but I can't stay. The Quarrymen think we're dead but they know Angela and Bronx are still alive. They're on a train to Albany and we know The Quarrymen plan to attack her. I need to go." He said quickly.

She nodded and pulled him in for a kiss. "Be safe." Then she gripped his biceps and said. "Don't ever…do that again."

"I promise…I love you Aimee." He removed her hands kissed her knuckles. Then crouched in her window. "This ends tonight." He vowed.

She barely had time to say "I love you too…" before he was gone.

Once he was out of sight, Aimee barely had enough energy to make it back to her bed. Although she now knew he had survived, her body was spent from the emotional overflow of the day's events. This, she realized was the hard part about being with someone like him. From now on, she would made a point to never take anything at face value ever again. She would believe in him.

She clicked on the TV in her room to listening to the news. So far it was still anti-gargoyle.

She settled in her bed waiting for a news report to come through about Quarrymen attacking a train. She also called Becky to relay the rollercoaster of events she had been through.

He arrived just in time, the clan was already heading out of Penn Station following the tracks to Albany. The train loomed ahead. The Quarrymen were already there. Damn bastards were not even concerned for the human passengers aboard the train.

The Quarrymen were outfitted in high-tech armoured suits outfitted with rocket boosters and the latest laser-gun technology. They were focusing their fire on the very last train car; of course the one where Angela and Bronx were being held.

One of them set off a barrage of shots, penetrating the metal like it was nothing. Goliath growled and body-slammed the man forcing him to drop his gun. The rest of the Gargoyles managed to incapacitate the men already fighting on the train.

John Castaway was following along in a chopper getting increasingly more frustrated and furious that his plan had failed. He ordered more Quarrymen to join the attack and they flew from the chopper above.

Brooklyn and the others were about to engage them when a huge explosion rocked their eardrums. The bridge ahead had been completely destroyed and there was not not nearly enough time for the train to stop.

Broadway dropped in on the last train car to rescue his mate and Elisa. Angela tearfully hugged him while Bronx licked his hand happily. Ms. Yale tried to prevent them from leaving threatening to add aiding and abetting to the list of charges. Elisa was done with her behaviour. "You're a true romantic, Ms. Yale." She sighed.

At the same time, Castaway had hopped aboard the train and hijacked the main car to make sure the train crashed. He captured the two workers and took the throttle and increased the speed, pushing the train past its limit.

Everyone yelped as the train shuddered and jolted forward. By now people were observing the fight from the windows. They could see that the Gargoyles were actually defending them from the Quarrymen rather than attacking them. They were confused and frightened being trapped on the runaway train.

Even Ms. Yale was unable to understand why Broadway and Angela were choosing to stay rather than leave. They both jumped out of the train car to help.

"I can explain it in two words: Gargoyles protect." Elisa said.

Poor Broadway did not get very far; he was hit in the crossfire and crashed through one of the train cars occupied by people. He was unconscious when Elisa hopped the train cars to come to his side. She tried to revive him and rubbed his forehead with a handkerchief.

The people now had come to an understanding that the Quarrymen were the real villains here and not the Gargoyles. Several of them approached Elisa saying they'd like to help. One of them was a doctor who checked Broadway's body for injuries.

Goliath had chosen to stand against Castaway alone. He was shocked and horrified that this man would choose hatred for his kind over the innocent lives of the humans aboard the train. Castaway laughed evilly as he shot the electrical panel on the train ensuring it would never be stopped.

Goliath took a few hits but he managed to knock Castaway out. He grabbed his body and threw him to the previous train car. He then destroyed the couplings to the main car. There was still not enough time for the train to slow down.

Brooklyn, Hudson and Lexington glided up, each holding an unconscious Quarryman.

"Brooklyn! Save all you can carry off the train!" Goliath cried.

"I have an idea to save them all!" Brooklyn said. "Just follow my lead!" He removed the rocket booster from the man's suit and dropped him. The man fell like a rock to the ground below.

He took the rocket and shoved it through the side of the train. "Jam them in good and tight guys! Make sure they're facing backwards!" he called to the others.

They did as he told them to. Hudson thought the idea was ludicrous. "Whatever you're doing, you better do it now!"

"Fire your engines!" Brooklyn cried and activated the rocket. Lexington and Hudson did the same. The rockets blasted against the speed of the train. It was working! The thrust from the rockets was slowing them down. It screeched to a stop just at the nick of time, right on the edge of the broken tracks.

"Engines off!" Brooklyn said once the train had stopped.

Hudson breathed a sigh of relief and glared at Brooklyn. "Could you have cut it a little close laddie?"

Brooklyn shrugged with a smirk; he saved them didn't he? He jumped back up to the top of the train to join the others. They all glided down to the other side.

Goliath looked upon his clan proudly. He told them as much before the people on the train burst through the doors, shouting and cheering. It was a wonderful sound and an even better feeling.

Later, news reporters had arrived and were taking footage of the destroyed train and the Ms. Margot Yale was personally thanking the Gargoyles for her efforts.

Once again Aimee had fallen asleep. Her father gently shook her awake and turned the volume up on her TV. "You'll want to see this." He said with a smile.

She rubbed her eyes and focused on the blond woman on the screen.

And after personally witnessing the heroic efforts that saved every man, woman and child aboard this train, It is my duty—no—my privilege to announce the people's charges against these noble creat—these noble beings have been dropped.

She let out a happy squeal at seeing Brooklyn and his clan in the background with people, actual people around them. She felt tears come to her eyes. "He's okay, they're all okay!" She jumped up and gave her father a tight hug.

"I know, sweetie, it's hard to believe the day began the way it did and ended like this." He said. "He truly is a hero. They all are."

She wiped her tears. "It's about time that people realize that."

Aimee thought she would have to wait until the next time to see Brooklyn but she was surprised to see him tapping at the window about an hour before dawn.

"Brooklyn!" she cried softly. She shut and locked her bedroom door and then went to the window to let him in. "What are you doing here? The sun will be up soon."

He enveloped her in a tight hug, drawing a claw down her cheek. "I had to see you…" he murmured.

"I saw the news reports, apparently it was your idea that stopped the train." She grinned.

He chuckled, trying to appear humble. "Yeah…not trying to brag or nothin' but yep totally my idea."

"Wow, you're smart AND brave." She joked, remembering when he had praised her writing.

He kissed her then, long and deep, pulling her flush against his body. He wanted her so badly in this moment.

She must have felt the same way because she ground hard against his length with a wicked gleam in her eye. "Do we have enough time?" she whispered.

"I think we can manage." He smirked.

Clothes were hastily discarded and Brooklyn found himself lying on his back with her beautiful body above his, straddling his legs just below his erection.

Brooklyn stared up at her; long golden hair falling around her face and shoulders giving her the appearance of a Goddess. "God, you're beautiful."

"Am I?" She teased and closed her hand around his length giving him a few pumps.

He hissed in pleasure. "You keep that up I'll be done before we get a chance to try it this way."

She quietly snickered and released him. "I'll stop, I don't want to miss out on my favourite position." She lifted herself up and slowly lowered onto him sighing in pleasure as she went.

His hands found their way to her hips and he groaned at the feeling of her soft, wet, heat surrounding him. Yes, yes, yes.

Aimee moaned softly as she started to move, using the leverage from his hands guiding her up and down.

Brooklyn very much liked it this way. He got a wonderful view of her body and was able to tease her breasts and nipples heightening the pleasure even more.

Pretty soon she wanted it harder and faster. They were both covered in a sheen of sweat now and he could see she was beginning to tire. Being extra careful of his claws he took her hips again and gave her the strength she needed to reach her climax.

She tried very hard to stifle her moans as she came, her back arching and her head thrown back in pleasure. He followed next, coming hard with a low growl, spilling himself into her.

She collapsed on top of him panting. Their hearts beat together as one while they both came down from their high.

After a while she noticed the room getting progressively lighter.

"You better get dressed…" she murmured into his chest. "You don't want to turn to stone with your dick out." She laughed.

He couldn't help but burst out laughing, trying to muffle it to keep quiet. "Guess we can't have that can we?" He gently shifted her off of him and retied his loincloth securely fastening it on his hips.

She pulled on a shirt and a pair of underwear and went to stand with him by the window. "I'll see you a sunset?"

He kissed her one last time. "Yeah, just don't be shocked when I wake up. It's…kinda intense." He said and added. "Have a good day Aimee."

"I will now that I know you're safe, I love you." She said.

"Love you too." He replied and faced the dawn. He realized he would need to have another conversation with her about how Gargoyles take mates. Now that they had joined together the bond was complete in his eyes. He needed to see how she felt about it. The first rays of sun were now appearing.

Aimee gasped slightly as his body turned to stone before her eyes. She ran a hand over the smooth rock. It was as if he was now the perfect carving of a Gargoyle. "Amazing…sleep well Brooklyn."

Aimee showered and noticed with amusement some red scratches on her hips. They stung a bit but they weren't very deep, she applied some anti-bacterial cream and a couple band-aids. After she was clean she discarded her soiled clothes and re-dressed. Still exhausted from the previous night she drew her curtains shut and fell asleep instantly.

She woke up close to noon to the slight tapping on her door. Groggily, she remembered she had locked it and pulled herself out of bed to open it. Her fully dressed father was on the other side. "Sorry for waking you. I just wanted to see how you were…" he nodded in understanding seeing Brooklyn's stone form by her window. "I guess that answers that." He said with a smile.

She yawned. "Yeah, Brooklyn is going to stay here for today. Hope that's okay." She looked up at him pleadingly.

"Of course. You don't have to do the puppy eyes." He laughed. "He deserves his rest after last night, you as well."

"Thanks dad, oh, Becky is coming over later as well." She added.

"Okay, I have to get back to the office, see you later." He waved and headed out.

Later…

"So…you both thought each other was dead am I getting that right?" Becky asked as she sat on Aimee's bed with her.

Aimee nodded so Becky continued. "And you've had sex?!" she squealed.

She blushed. "Twice..."

"So how was it?!" Becky asked enthusiastically.

Aimee buried her face into the pillow she was hugging. "Really, really good." She said muffled. "Best I've ever had."

Becky squeaked happily. "I'm so glad!"

"It can get a bit pokey at times though." She said, showing her the bandaids on her hip.

Becky shrugged. "You can't have everything I guess."

"Well it was either me or the sheets. They need to invent Gargoyle-proof sheets." Aimee laughed.

Becky laughed as well. The two of them had been talking so long they didn't notice the sun had gone down. Suddenly they heard a cracking sound.

"What is that?" Becky asked.

"Brooklyn!" Aimee cried as the cracking continued and Brooklyn roared to life, shooting bits of stone skin everywhere.

Becky shrieked in surprise and Aimee's gasp turned into laughter. Soon they were both laughing so hard they couldn't stop.

Brooklyn turned to find the two girls laughing hysterically on the bed. "Did I miss something?" He had an amused look on his face.

Finally getting her laughter under control, Aimee said, "Sorry Brooklyn, it was Becky's reaction and just wow, that was something and sorry Becky, Brooklyn warned me that it might be intense when he woke up." She said, wiping her eyes.

He chuckled. "Sorry Becky, that must have been a shock."

She waved it off. "It wasn't that bad." She hopped off the bed. "Well, I'll leave you two lovebirds alone, I gotta get going."

"See ya," Aimee waved, Brooklyn as well.

When she had gone, Brooklyn sat down next to her on the bed. "There's been something I wanted to talk to you about." He said, taking her hand. "It's uh…about Gargoyles and 'mating'."

"Oh." She nodded in understanding. "Right, we're mates aren't we?"

He swallowed nervously. "Uh, yeah, I just wanted to explain the whole process to you. So when we take a mate, there's a bonding process that takes place the first time we you know, 'mate'. I know it works differently for humans but to me you are my mate and Gargoyles mate for life…well usually. The mating bond can be broken if the two Gargoyles fall out of love." He finished.

Aimee took a moment to process all of this. "So it's like marriage? Gargoyle marriage?"

"I guess? I'm not trying to scare you or pressure you into anything." He rushed out. "All it means is that there is no one else for me. In my eyes you are my mate and I will protect you, care for you and love you till my last breath. Sorry if that sounds corny."

She giggled and touched his face. "It's alright, I'm not scared and yeah maybe not ready for 'marriage' just yet but I already told you I was fine with being your mate." She said, winking at him.

He pulled her into his arms and gently stroked her hair. "That's all I ever hoped for." He whispered. "We also refer to our mates as 'my love'."

She shivered slightly at his velvety words. "I think I can deal with that...my love."

He drew her in for a kiss and the two of them just held one another for a while. It was nice to just relax and be at peace.

Gargoyle/human relations had been improving ever since the train rescue and without their leader The Quarrymen were becoming less and less. Aimee still planned on testifying against John Castaway in court. Brooklyn would keep good on his word and dote on her with all the love and support that a mated Gargoyle should. They didn't know what the future held but it seemed to get brighter every day and that was enough.

The End.

A/N There is an epilogue after this!
