Katt's sitting with her head in her hands at the bar and lamenting her latest mistake when an irritatingly bright voice suddenly says, "Ah, why do you look so glum? It's a fine evening and we are all here together to drink and be merry, non?"
"Jean." Katt sighs. "Weren't you talking to Sten?"
"Et maintenant, I'm talking to you," says Jean, taking a seat on the barstool next to Katt's. "Is it Ryu and Nina who have you looking so sad?"
"No!" Ugh! "Look, they got together as soon as we were done with the whole demon-slaying quest, it's fine, I'm over it-" mostly "-the problem is that every guy I've tried dating since has been such a total dirtbag! Spineless and sleazy!" Katt whacks the bar with her fist. "What's a girl gotta do to find a guy even half as decent as Ryu, huh?"
Jean hums. "What is it you look for in a lover, then?"
"Well…" It's not like Katt has thought about it, exactly. "He's gotta be decent in a fight. I don't wanna have to fuss over him all the time. And he can't be an asshole, obviously. And…"
Katt slowly realises that as far as her requirements go, the bar might literally be on the floor.
"…and, I don't know, I'm tired of blue-haired guys. With ponytails."
Jean strokes his chin. "I see, I see… then perhaps what you should do, is find someone who is entirely unlike our dear Ryu!"
"What does that even mean?" Katt wrinkles her nose. "He can't be too different either – we gotta have something in common, you know!"
"Hmm… then what about someone like me?"
Katt looks at Jean. "Like you?"
"Oui, oui," says Jean. "In my fair homeland are many young men who are quite different from say, Ryu or Bow. Perhaps trying your luck with one of them would be nice, non?"
"Hmm," says Katt blandly and keeps looking at Jean. Really, for a Creeping clansman, he's not bad looking. And he doesn't look the least bit like Ryu. Katt's seen Jean handle himself in plenty of fights, and yeah – they've been travelling together for years now, so Katt knows they've got things in common to bond over.
Honestly, why hasn't she considered Jean before? Did she just fail to see him behind Ryu?
"You might be onto something," says Katt. "Say, why don't you buy me a drink?"
"But you already have a drink…?"
"Ugh, have you never flirted in a bar before? You buy me a drink and then you ask me to leave with you."
"Oh," says Jean, and seems to look at her like he's never seen her before.
Perhaps Jean has never thought to consider Katt in a romantic light before, either.
"I can do that," says Jean, finally, and calls for the bartender to bring 'the lovely miss Katt a drink'.
