This has been a pet project of mine for some time now. I absolutely LOVED the Uncharted movie. It was a great original adventure story and could be seen as a great origin story for Nate and Sully. But one of my favorite things about it was Nate and Chloe's chemistry and the potential they had as a couple. But when I came to find some NatexChloe fics, I found diddly!
So now, I'm jumping into the Uncharted fandom with a Nate/Chloe Fic. It follows Nate and Chloe from the plane to the end of the movie. Enjoy it!
***The Philippines***
Chloe Frazer woke up at daybreak. She was a little sore after yesterday. Dodging bad guys, bullets, falling out of a plane, it'll do that to you.
Looking over her shoulder, she saw her friend, Nate, sleeping soundly.
She couldn't help but smile at him. What a man he was. Not just physically, even though that was definitely the reason, obviously. He was hot and surprisingly ripped. And his brown eyes that just-
Chloe mentally slapped herself. She was doing it again. Ogling Nate, but she couldn't help it at times. Wasn't her fault Nate looked good.
But aside from the physical aspects, she also admired his moral compass. He was the kind of guy who looked out for his friends, the kind that wouldn't leave you or hurt you. And she liked that about him.
Not wanting to wake up up, Chloe slowly slipped out of bed and unto her bathrobe she had already grown attached to. She then made herself a cup of espresso and walked about the room, sipping as she did.
The sky outside was beautiful as the sun rose above the island. Truly breathtaking.
Taking another sip, Chloe's eyes lingered to the table next to her when suddenly, something caught her eye.
A slip of paper laid on the table next to Nate's phone. And on the paper we're numbers.
Setting down her coffee and picking up the paper, she examined it more closely and realized the numbers were coordinates. It dawned on her that they were the coordinates to the treasure. Nate must've figured it out!
This was it! She could go and get the treasure, and be set for life. Finally, she had her shot!
But with all of that hope and excitement, Chloe felt something. Some...light poke in her heart. Whatever it was, it made her look to the bed and to the sleeping man within.
It was then she realized that the feeling was guilt. She was getting early flashes of guilt for betraying Nate. For the second time! But there was something else. Something...deeper. Like a feeling of care for him, not wanting to hurt him.
And then it hit her. She liked him! She had a crush on Nathan Drake. After this small time, she had grown somewhat attached to this man. This...this handsome weirdo.
Chloe set the paper down and sat down and ran her fingers through her hair. What was she doing? What a time for her conscience to kick in.
She let out a light scoff, smiled, and shook her head. "Come on, Chlo. Come on." She whispered to herself.
Was she really going to let all of this go? For a man? Even though he was a good man. The first good one she had meet in a really long time. One who hand tried to trick her, hurt her or- there she went again.
Chloe shook her head and laughed at herself. Damn, she had it bad. And then another feeling came in. She didn't want to leave. Nate. She didn't want to leave Nate. He never hurt her, and now, she didn't want to hurt him.
Now, she knew what she was going to do.
Standing up, she got dressed, took the paper and walked out of the room.
A little later, Nate stirred thanks to the sunlight hitting his eyelids. Letting out a yawn, he slowly say up and looked to the sun and beautiful island outside.
Now that was a sight to wake up to.
He then looked to the spot on the bed next to him and noticed it was empty. That and it was quiet in the room.
"Chloe?" He called out as he tossed the covers back and getting out of bed.
But there was no answer. Walking into the living part of the room, he noticed something was missing from table.
The coordinates he wrote down!
"Chloe?" He called again. Still no answer.
She was gone. Just as he had predicted, Chloe had taken the coordinates to the treasure and vanished.
Even though he somewhat expected this, he still felt hurt...again. Once again, Chloe had-
"Oh, hey, you're up!" Someone said behind him.
Turning around, Nate saw...Chloe?
She was walking in, smiling, wearing a bikini that was just a tad darker than her and a pair of shorts with a tie-on skirt around her waist. All of which Nate noticed almost immediately. In her hands, however, was a paper bag that held something that smelt great, and a cup of coffee from the hotel cafe.
"Uh...yeah." Nate replied. He didn't exactly know what else to say.
"I brought breakfast!" The tan girl smiled, handing the bag and beverage to him.
He took it, still bewildered, but grateful. "Thanks. Thank you."
As he set it on the table, Chloe could tell something was up with Nate. There was a strange vibe about him.
"You alright, Nate?" She asked.
Nate stood straight again and paused for a moment. Finally, he answered. "Uh, yeah. I just, uh...I'm just a little surprised you're still here, I guess."
Chloe furrowed her eyebrows at that.
"Well where else would I be?"
"Well, uh...I...I, uh..."
Nate fumbled as he tried to think of the best way to put it, but Chloe saw it right away.
"You thought I left you here. Didn't you?"
It was the truth, but Nate didn't expect it to come back in his face like this. Feeling defeated, Nate lowered his head and nodded.
Chloe, understood how Nate felt right now. Truthfully, she wasn't entirely disappointed. He'd caught on and was getting better at smelling double crosses. So really, she wasn't offended. But she did feel something. Something she was slightly afraid to admit.
Deciding to take the reigns, she walked over to the room's couch and sat down.
"Nate?" She called to him. Nate looked to her and watched as patted the spot next to her for him to sit.
Nate did as she asked and say down. Not too close though, he didn't want to make her feel uncomfortable.
A few seconds of silence went by and Chloe finally spoke up.
"I saw the coordinates." She said.
Nate looked to her with a confused look. Not at her words, but what they led up to. Still, he listened.
Chloe nodded at him. "Yeah. I did. And I won't lie to you, I did intend on leaving at first. And I'm sorry to have to tell you that..."
Wow, that was something.
It wasn't entirely the confession that shocked Nate, though he was a little surprised by Chloe admitting it, it was more so the remorse she was showing about it.
This poked at his curiosity.
"Why didn't you?" He asked.
"I guess my conscience kinda kicked in. I was holding the location and then I looked at you, and...I just couldn't do it. I felt bad about betraying you...again...sorry about that hit on the head, by the way."
At that, a teasing smile came to Nate's face as he remembered something. "I thought you said you wouldn't apologize." He poked.
Chloe's sincere look was replaced with a smirk and she playfully slapped Nate on the shoulder. "Shut up! I'm trying to be nice here!"
"Sorry, haha," Nate laughed, rubbing his shoulder where she hit him, "I had to. The moment was perfect."
"Yes it was. And you just shot it in the foot."
The two laughed at that and the moment was restored, though it was never gone to begin with.
"But seriously, Nate. I am sorry. You're a good guy. A really good guy. I know because you haven't tried to double cross me or hurt me yet."
"And I never would." Nate cut in with a calm, sincere voice.
Chloe nodded and smiled at that before putting a hand on Nate's bare shoulder. Her touch sent a shock through him that gave him goosebumps and made his arm hair stand.
Chloe noticed this and it instantly reminded her of another reason why she stayed. The thought of it made her giggle, which Nate immediately noticed.
"What?" He asked with a curious smile.
"Nothing." The tan girl replied swiftly, not doing a good job of hiding her laughter.
This made Nate even more curiousas he started laughing with her. "Chloe, what is it?"
"I, uh..." Now it was Chloe's turn to stutter. "...there was another reason why I didn't leave."
She was extremely nervous now. Crazy to think how after all she's been through, including yesterday with driving out of a plane and landing in the ocean, she was nervous to explain her feelings.
"Oh, so you could find the treasure with me?" Nate queried.
Chloe scoffed at the and shook her head. No, that's not it."
"Well then what was it?"
Letting out a big sigh, Chloe took a breath and looked right at Nate. Right in his eyes. It was a look that should've made it obvious. But...
"What is it?" Nate asked again.
It took everything in Chloe not to roll her eyes or laugh. Instead she just deadpan her face and nodded to the young explorer.
"Wait, me?" He exclaimed, "You stayed because of me?"
Chloe nodded. "Yeah."
"Because I have the map, right?"
Okay, she couldn't help it anymore. Chloe let out another scoff and laughed. This boy was so cute, so handsome, so smart, and yet, so dumb.
"No, Nate. It's not because you have the map. I could've taken that, remember? No, I stayed because...(sigh)because I like you... I like you, Nate...there, I said it."
She stood from the couch and walked out to the room's balcony, leaving a dumbfounded Nate sitting there.
Chloe leaned on the rail of the balcony and let her head fall. She had finally confessed how she felt and was beginning to crawl back into her shell, her walls would soon come up again. This was the first time she had ever been THIS vulnerable with someone, to open like this. This...was a whole new monster.
From the couch, Nate watched as his friend...if he could even call her that now, stood there with shame. But she had no reason for it and he knew that. Plus, he had a secret of his own. He couldn't let her be alone.
Standing up from the couch and walking out to her, Nate stood there and looked at the girl. He wondered how he was to approach this. Going with his gut, he put a hand on Chloe's shoulder and lightly turned her to face him.
But when she did, Nate was shocked to see tear streaks on her cheeks and puffy eyes.
Instantly, he was moved with care for her.
"Oh, Chloe," he said, pulling her into a hug. She immediately returned returned hug and buried her face in Nate's shoulder.
"I'm sorry," She whimpered, but was met with calm, loving empathy and sympathy from Nate.
"Shhhh. It's okay, I've got you."
And he did have her. And for the first time in a LONG time, Chloe felt safe. She felt safety in Nate's arms, and she knew he would always make her feel that way.
"Thank you."
"Of course. And hey?"
She looked to him with her big brown eyes to his equally dark brown eyes.
"I...heheh, I like you too."
Boom! He said it. And with a straight face and smile too.
Hearing this, a smile pricked st Chloe's lips and soon blossomed into a pearly white showing. Her heart began to race with glee at his words. "You do?"
Nate nodded and smiled nervously.
Full of excitement, Chloe acted on impulse and leaned forward and kissed Nate, right on the lips.
The action surprised him at first, but he soon leaned into the kiss and returned it, which Chloe liked.
A second later, they broke apart and leaned their foreheads against one another.
"That was...wow! Haha!" Nate chuckled nervously.
To which Chloe did the same. "Yeah, definitely 'wow'."
She giggled a little, which Nate found cute. She was just so great. Now that they were being open and honest with each other, he could see how great they could possibly be together. He actually wanted to do kiss her again. But there was something that had to be done first.
"Just promise me one thing?" He said, cupping Chloe's cheek.
He had her full attention as she looked him straight in his eyes, waiting for his next words.
"From here on out, we work together as a team. No more tricks, double crosses, just partners."
Though she was happy to agree, Chloe couldn't help but take the moment she was provided with to have a little fun with Nate.
"Just partners?" She repeated with a teasing smile, leaning in a little closer.
Realizing what he said and what she meant, Nate let out another nervous chuckle but soon found his words.
"Well, heh, maybe a little more than 'just'."
"Deal, Nate. No more. I've got your back from now on."
"And I've got yours, Chlo."
Chloe smiled at him calling her a nickname, and she leaned in once again to connect her lips with his.
But this time, she slid her hands up Nate's chest and slipped them around his neck, while he leaned into Chloe's kiss and snaked his arms around her waist.
And just like that, their promise was sealed with another kiss. Only this one was better than the last. Rather than quick and over fast, this one was longer and held a promise with it.
Now they were a team. Nate and Chloe. Adventurers. Partners. Lovers.
What a pair.
