Till Death Did We Part

Tonight was the two-year anniversary of Hayate Gekko's gruesome death. Konoha continued to move along and within these two years, peace had formed between Suna and Konoha. One that secretly angered Yugao knowing that this peace had prevented any further investigation into the death of her lover. She was upset but kept those thoughts to herself just being a cog in the shinobi machine that kept things running in Konoha. She tried to numb herself to all things especially on a day such as this. Today her numbing agent was alcohol, and boy was she drunk.

Yugao had just gotten back from a mission tonight and didn't listen to Kinoe when he begged her to just go home. She insisted she was fine and just wanted to go out and enjoy the night breeze. Kinoe sighed and told her to come home soon and knew it wasn't worth a fight with her at this hour. As soon as she got out of his sight she took off her armor and strolled right into the liquor store asking for their best stuff, saying she was celebrating. The seller smiled and agreed to get her the best stuff being none the wiser of what she might do.

Now two hours later she had downed almost the full bottle and was slowly losing her chakra control. Her feet got wet every now and again as she got her footing again. She would take a swig and then pour one out into the river. "This one is for the girl we should have had love." She said this pour reflecting on the life she should have had with Hayate. "This is for my father walking me down the aisle while all our friends watched on." She said taking the next swig from the bottle and then pouring one out. Her speech started getting slurred and she burped loudly. "This is for the last conversation we had." She started to cry and only focused on her pity. Being consumed in her own pity she began to lose all control of her chakra and she started to sink into the water.

All of Yugao's senses had been lost to the alcohol and the pity and she could not remember how to swim. In a panic, she started to try and paddle but it wasn't working and the river water started choking her. She was helpless and drowning in the water looking around in the darkness and seeing no one. Panic filled her very core and she felt like her body was sinking. In her last moments of water retention, she looked up at the moon and thought she saw Hayate's face. She was drowning. How pathetic was this, she thought. A kunoichi refugee from the land of waves made to be able to swim. Yet here she was drowning.

Yugao closed her eyes and gave up the fight wanting to finally end her suffering. Within her own mind, she saw her body go deeper under the water and caught sight of Hayate coming towards her. "Yugao, please don't give up. You have to keep going, please for me." Hayate said, holding onto her as she watched her body begin to die. "But Hayate, please. I just want to be with you." She said crying Hayate held her closer and brushed her hair. "I know my love, I wish I had you with me but you deserve to have a future. That's all I want for you." Yugao looked up at him with tears in her eyes. "I love you so much." "I love you too," Hayate said before kissing Yugao. After that kiss, Yugao's world was turning to darkness as she saw a figure grab onto her drowning body.
