Synopsis: Uni and Nepgear run into some familiar faces while they are out questing one day, and a certain nosy little bug hunter sticks her nose where it has no right. How will Uni deal with the growing questions she can no longer answer? And hey why is there a gun being pointed around?
The land that stood as the borderline between Lastation and Planeptune was a strange almost ethereal land for most citizens of Gamindustri, for much of history, it served as a land for the dueling CPUs of the nations, with endless battles seemingly waged daily, making living in the area exceedingly difficult. As such, no major cities developed over the years, and over the last decades of peace nature had retaken the once scarred land. In short, the area was a vast wilderness, unchecked and dangerous to traverse. Only the bravest of adventures would dare take on the arduous task of taking on quests in the area.
Of course, that meant many of the tasks of keeping the growing monster populations in check were left up to the CPUs of the nations, much to the chagrin of a certain pudding-loving goddess. That is exactly what happened on the day we take our story upon, with the combined forces of Histoire, Nepgear, and Noire, they were able to convince (or maybe drag) Neptune out to begin population control on the hordes that populated the vast forests, with Uni expectedly tagging along.
In standard fashion, the 4 decided to split into two groups, the CPUs, and the candidates, however before either of the groups could set out, the candidates were sat down and given extensive safety instructions,
"And remember, if you even think you sense something more dangerous than you think you can handle, you fly either to grab us or as far away as you can, understand?" Noire stared at the two, her voice firm and almost patronizing, but that was what was to be expected with the black goddess at this point,
"I get it, Noire… You don't have to treat us like children anymore…" Uni whined, she understood, and even appreciated somewhat, that Noire was as protective as she was. But at the same time, she wanted to be seen on equal footing, in her mind she thought she had proven herself more than should be necessary to garner respect. And she was especially not appreciative of being treated like a child in front of the girl next to her…
"Oh c'mon miss abyssal heart, have a little more faith, last time I checked those two saved our butts on more than a few occasions" Neptune quickly decided to chime in, placing her hands behind her head as she casually pointed out,
"But… but…" Noire eyed around clearly not wanting to say what was on her mind, however, her mood was as easily read as ever by the d-clip adorned goddess,
"Let me guess 'i'm just really worried about you Uni, so please be safe'" Neptune laughed at her own quip and dreadful impersonation, garnering the expected reaction,
"Neptuuuune" Noire glared over at her partner for the day, and as the said goddess nervously chuckled, the last member of the group present quickly spoke up to try and diffuse the situation,
"Haa it's important to make sure we all follow proper safety guidelines, right?" Nepgear put her hands up as she tried to calm down everyone. Her sister had the habit of pushing the twin-tailed goddess way farther than any rational person ever would, so Nepgear often found herself playing the mediator role,
"Yea yea jabber and all that jazz, it's just mindless grinding at the end of the day, let's get to it Nowaru!" Neptune used all her energy to get herself motivated for the day as she enthusiastically grabbed the hand of the black CPU, rushing off into the forest… in the completely wrong direction of where they were supposed to be headed, and despite all the protest and yelling of the party being dragged, Neptune continued her warpath. Leaving behind the two exacerbated candidates,
"Do you think we should tell them they're going in the wrong direction?" Uni nervously asked,
"Haha Sis will calm down eventually and Miss Noire will lead her where they need to be… I think. Let's just get to our quests, ok, Uni?" Nepgear waved off the fate of their sisters, as she turned to her own partner for the day. Receiving a nod, the two soon made their way deeper into the forest.
Throughout the passing hour or so the pair would take on seemingly endless and random hordes of enemies throwing themselves at the more than prepared goddesses. The two, having worked together for so long, basically knew each other's fighting styles as well as their own, and the tandem moved along, tearing through the hordes with little resistance.
The two made up for each other's weakness well, a persistent punk cat managed to flank Nepgear? It soon had a bullet between its eyes as the long-ranged specialist expertly placed her shot. A pal shell closed a little too much distance on Uni? Nepgear quickly shredded the unprepared orb creature to shreds.
The unsuspecting monsters never stood a chance, even if their strength didn't quite compare to their sisters, Nepgear and Uni were no slouches. While Neptune showed unbelievably hilariously game-breaking raw power, and Noire showed finesse of an elite swordswoman, and possibly no tandem could possibly take on the purple and black CPU duo. The candidates held their own expertise.
Wherein Neptune would prefer to smash enemies to smithereens, Nepgear showcased honed battle skills with patience and balance that allowed for more flexibility in battle. While Noire showcased raw skill matched by few, if any, in Gamindustri, the precision and efficiency of the sniper was crucial in the well-oiled machine that was the tandem of Planeptune and Lastaions' candidates.
After dispatching her umpteenth fodder mob, Nepgear looked at her surroundings, and seemingly the duo had exterminated the last of the monsters in the general vicinity. With a smile and a nod, she turned to her long-range support,
"Do you want to take a short break, Uni?" She asked pleasantly, taking a seat with her back on a nearby tree, Uni scoffed as she took a seat nearby,
"Hmph if you insist" In actuality, she was more than happy to give her body a rest, but she couldn't let Nepgear know that, right? She didn't know why but she just felt like she had to act strong in front of her fellow goddess in training. Of course, knowing full well the antics of her friend, Nepgear simply chuckled as she summoned two water bottles from her inventory, offering one to Uni, who gladly accepted the bottle,
"That's fine, it's ok to rest every now and then you know?" Nepgear sighed as she sipped out of her bottle, relishing in the refreshing liquid filling her system, letting out a contented sigh as she quickly polished off her bottle, she looked over before speaking once more, "And besides if I didn't make you, you'd run yourself into the ground" She gave a coy smile to her comment as she saw the expected haughty look in her partner's eyes, perhaps it stood to reason some of Neptune's nosiness and cheekiness rubbed off on her.
"And what is that supposed to mean?" She narrowed her eyes on the lilac woman,
"I'm just saying that I worry about you is all silly~" Nepgear gave her friend a beaming smile, and Uni could only look down as she took a gulp of her provided water, Uni couldn't help but look into the words. It warmed her heart to know she was worried about, especially by the woman in question. She had long since been searching for anything to confirm to herself what the beam saber wielder thought about her, but it proved to be a more arduous process than she considered.
It was easy to over-analyze every little thing the overly nice goddess did, but that was just it, wasn't it? She was simply a nice person. She worried about all her friends right? That was what Uni liked so much about her, but at the same time, did that make her any special in her mind? Was Uni as important as anyone else? Rom or Ram? Her human friends she had met? Her sister? Uni had no way of knowing, and it was beginning to eat at her.
The whole string of consciousness of the raven-haired gun enthusiast only took up but a few moments, and as she sat still looking to her feet, she quietly added, "No one asked you too…"
The other girl could only tilt her head, giving her partner a quizzical look, "Hmm? What was that, did you say something?" She swore she said something but Uni had spoken so quietly she couldn't deduce the words,
"Nothing! Say don't you think we've rested long enough, let's get back to it!" Uni quickly shot to her feet, pulling up her fellow goddess, who could only offer a slight 'eep' as a response.
"But we barely even took a break…" Nepgear whined,
"We'll never get done with that attitude!" Uni chastised as she began surveying the surrounding area, before looking back for Nepgear, who was simply taking a sip out of a bottle of water. "Wait a minute… didn't you finish your…" Uni quickly put the pieces of the puzzle together as she looked to where she had left her bottle, noticing a distinct lack of plastic contained water. "H-hey! That was mine Nepgear!" She quickly marched over and snatched the water, didn't Nepgear have any decency? Besides Uni had put her own mouth on that bottle, didn't that airhead see the implication!
"Awww but you said we were moving on…" Nepgear pouted, she was still parched, as the frontliner of the group she had to work her tail off to ensure nothing got past her.
Uni froze as she stared at the damned creation. Now the implication was on her, she had rudely snatched the bottle from Nepgear, who likely assumed that Uni herself wished to finish it. Gulping she could feel herself freeze as she unwillingly gave her best impersonation of a tomato. Using all of her honed senses, and years of intensive training Noire and Kei had given her, she stared down the boss that lay in front of her, downing the rest of the bottle.
As she reopened her eyes, she saw Nepgear nowhere in her sight, not that she expected a rousing applause for her valiant slaying of the beast, but she didn't expect her to vanish. Looking around, she saw Nepgear had taken the liberty of making her way deeper into the forest. Doing her best to fight the feeling in her gut, Uni called out as she closed the gap, and soon the two were off again.
And so the duo found themselves once more assuming their fighting stances, quickly and efficiently plowing down the many monsters in the area, as they made their way deeper and deeper through the forest. The idea was that the 2 groups consisting of Uni and Nepgear, and Noire and Neptune would set off in varying directions, and meet back at a designated point after making their way through the forest in one direction. The idea was that the CPUs would take the longer and more dangerous path (although they originally set off parallel to the border, not in the direction they were supposed to, which was towards Lastation) leaving the shorter path towards Planeptune for the candidates. With the expectation that the expedition would only take 3 hours at max, or at least that's what Histoire had estimated.
They were making good pace, but it still took somewhat longer than was originally theorized, and the duo was running slightly behind pace. But with the relative ease of the monsters they were facing, this didn't particularly bother either, and they continued, however, they soon stumbled upon a seemingly random clearing in the forest, looking around the two seemed slightly confused by the odd space,
"Huh, this is a little odd, what do you think, Nepgear?" Uni asked as she surveyed the area,
"Hmm, maybe this was the location of a big battle long ago? Maybe it just hasn't recovered yet?" Nepgear pondered out loud,
"Ya think? I don't remember reading about any big battles in this area" Uni pointed out, and the two talked for a bit longer, discussing the origin of this strange nook, however, the answer soon made itself known as the two heard a loud roar ring out. Looking in the direction of the disturbance, they soon saw a less than pleased ancient dragon staring them down,
"Oooh right, ancient dragon," The two said in somewhat synchrony, giving each other a look. It did make sense, I mean the lizards had to live somewhere, and they were pretty huge, so it made sense they caused large ecological disturbances. Letting out a sigh they looked back at the overgrown lizard, they weren't particularly thrilled with a boss fight, it's not like it would be difficult more annoying than anything. But they had to do what they had to do, with a nod they focused their will,
"Prepare yourself!"
"Keep your eyes on me!"
In a bright flash, the two activated their HDD transformations, and were soon replaced by the (smaller) form of Black Sister, and Purple Sister respectively.
The dragon (who showed the courtesy of allowing the duo to transform as was standard) quickly took the initiative, swinging his giant fist aimed right at the pair, who read the attack easily, dispersing, with Nepgear flying closer to engage the dragon, and Uni retreating to line up her shots.
Seeing that the dragon was focused on the closer of the two, swinging wildly with great force in an attempt to hit the candidate, Uni used to opportunity to line up a shot, loading her paralysis rounds, ensuring her partner was not in the line of fire before pulling the trigger, Uni made sure to yell out in order to communicate with Purple Sister,
"That's enough swinging out of you, stay still!" Uni felt the recoil as her shot expertly hit its mark, and the beast tensed up as the acting agent in the bullet froze it for just a moment, but a moment was all that was necessary when dealing with goddesses,
"Thanks, Uni! Take this, robot of justice Nepgeardam!" She raised her hands as she summoned the robot, and like every time she had done it prior the ridiculous form and funny face of the robot served to shock her (seriously she just patched that, how was it back?). Shaking the thoughts, Nepgear took control of her robot, using its large frame to clobber the lizard with numerous punches, before activating the robot's ultimate technique, and the robot soon obeyed shooting out the damaging beams from its eyes, leaving behind an explosion.
As Nepgear flew back slightly following her attack, eyes trained on the smoke cloud that had been generated, she asked out, "Say did we get it?"
"Of course not, when is an enemy ever defeated if it's surrounded by smoke!" Uni chastised, seriously how did anyone fall for that anymore, it was every time.
"Haa you might be right" Training her eyes, and focusing on the figure in the cloud, she soon saw the beast rise to its feet, proving Uni's earlier hypothesis correct, taking her battle stance, Nepgear prepared to take on the dragon once more, but as she looked forward she soon saw the beast slump to its knees as she heard a few gunshots ring out, and the beast dissolved into pixels, signaling the end to the battle, "Wow nice shot Uni" she complimented as she released her transformation, turning to face Uni, who had done the same. The only problem was that Uni looked confused with the turn of events, with a raised eyebrow she pointed out,
"What do you mean? I didn't shoot it, I thought you did?" The two stared at each other for a moment, before quickly turning to face where the dragon once stood, and soon a voice called out,
"Yooooo, sorry for stealing your kill! But I figured that no one should really be out this far anyway n' people can always use support, y'know?" The voice was loud and energetic, but as Nepgear and Uni looked over they couldn't help but notice that the smoke concealed two figures. It didn't help their confusion that the voice sounded awfully familiar, but they just couldn't remember who it belonged to, exchanging a look, Nepgear spoke for them,
"Ooh uh don't worry about it, we're just here to thin out the hordes anyway" She called out, and Uni and Nepgear could see the new arrivals look at each other before she heard the voice call out again,
"Gearsy! Gearsy is that you!?" As the smoke settled the two were revealed to be none other the Uzume, accompanied by the Neptune of the Ultra Dimension, seeing this Nepgear quickly ran over to greet the duo,
"Goodness! Uzume and Sis, what are you two doing out here?" Nepgear quickly brought the two into a tight hug, it had been a little while since she had seen the pair, as they had a habit of simply disappearing, sometimes without even telling anyone where they planned ongoing.
"Oh that… Were lost~" Neptune spoke for the pair as Nepgear detached herself, and the lilac haired adolescent could only look on with a sweat drop falling down her face,
"Yo-you're lost?" She asked in bewilderment,
"Hmm yeppers~" Neptune, harboring no shame in her body, responded gleefully, and Uzume could only rub her neck at the lack of tack exuberated by her longtime partner,
"I know, totally lame, but we heard rumors about a castle that an ancient CPU still dwells in, and we've been trying to find it for… How long was it again, Crosty?" Uzume explained, before deferring to the entrapped tome, who was quickly brought out by the busty purple-haired woman,
"3 freakin weeks! You two dipshits couldn't find the damn bathroom without getting lost!" The tome angrily explained, and Neptune could only pout in response,
"Wow, way past mean Crosty… We just wanted a little adventure"
"And you got us lost! For 3 weeks! How is that even possible!"
"Haha, so you guys were looking for LAN Castle?" Nepgear quickly tried to change the subject, and she saw the glowing eyes of both women instantly trained on her, chuckling nervously she continued, "Yea we all visited there when we were dealing with ASIC and the Deity of Sin, we met with an older CPU named Uranus"
"Huh from what Histy told me, that's who came right after me right?" The tome didn't explain much about the CPU, either because she herself didn't recall, or she didn't feel like trudging up the memories.
"Yes, she was the CPU before Sis, but I don't think she ruled very long as she and her fellow CPUs fell to Arfoire" Nepgear explained the fate of her predating CPU
"Huh, I guess that makes sense considering there are humans alive that lived during my reign" Uzume cupped her chin as she thought out loud. At the same time away from the two Planeptuian goddesses' conversation, Uni simply fiddled with her weapon as she awkwardly stood away from the group. She was quickly noticed by the adult Neptune, who made her way over to the young goddess, with a wave she energetically started,
"Hey, Uni was it? How goes it?" In truth, the two had rarely, if ever, had sat down and talked one on one. Neptune knew she was close with her younger not-so-sister, but that's about as far as her knowledge on the young woman went. Nepgear always spoke glowingly of her when given the opportunity, so Neptune figured now was as good a time as ever to get to know her.
"Oh uh hi Miss Neptune, I'm just making sure everything is in tip-top shape…" Uni nervously explained as she propped up her rifle. This Neptune was always an enigma to her, the circumstance of their first meeting had been… odd to say the least, with Neptune seemingly working with the hate-filled Kurome, only for Uni and Nepgear to stumble upon her later strung out and being hunted by Afroire. This Neptune, while still a goofy ball of energy, had a more serious aura about her, and Uni didn't know quite how to handle it. Uni didn't know how to speak with her, although, she supposed, this Neptune did have an appreciation for firearms so there was that,
"Oh c'mon I know my adorable younger self might be a big shot, but I'm just a lowly human, no need for this 'Miss Neptune' business" Neptune giggled as she gave Uni a hearty pat on the back,
"Oh… Ok M- Ahem Neptune," Uni fumbled with her words, and Neptune couldn't help but chuckle a bit, this girl certainly was cute, and she could see why Nepgear was so fond of her. Taking a moment to look the girl over she noticed the raw expertise she exuded with how she maintained her weapon, with no wasted motions she expertly checked every piece of the weapon. With a whistle, Neptune gave her compliments, "Wowzers you sure are good at that ain't ya? Say, you mind taking a look at this ol pea shooter of mine? It's been acting up a bit recently" Neptune amicably asked, drawing her pistol, sure she was a quite good shot in battle, but maintaining the weapon had long since been a difficulty for the bug hunter,
"O-Oh uhh sure, let me see…" Gently taking the weapon from the mature woman, Uni quickly performed her checking of the weapon. The model was more than a bit old, but it still was relatively standard, and as Uni examined the gun she couldn't help but click her tongue. This poor baby! Just what had the older Neptune put it through!?
"Jeez, just what have you been doing to this thing! A couple of the parts are completely busted, and have you ever even oiled this thing?" Uni, no longer as shy and awkward as she had been, chastised the purple-haired human, before begrudgingly handing back the weapon,
"I told you you need to take care of your weapon, dumbass" Crorie spoke up from her place in Neptune's pocket,
"But I don't know hooooow…" Neptune whined, not bothering to defend herself, and Uni could only sigh,
"Well, if you want to I guess I can show you how to perform routine maintenance" Uni offered, honestly she didn't know how much she looked forward to teaching any Neptune, but she refused to let a firearm be handled like this, it was a crime! Neptune, on the other hand, squeaked out as she crushed the expert markswoman in a tight hug,
"Yippie! See this is why my lovely younger sister loves you so much~" Neptune energetically spoke, and Uni could feel her heart thump loudly in her throat,
"H-Hey get off me!" Uni tried to wrestle free, and eventually, Neptune loosened her grip, looking over the girl once more, she put a finger to her chin as she looked behind her, seeing Uzume and Nepgear gleefully discussing whatever it was they were,
"Say, Uni? What're you doing over here like some extra anyway? Aren't you like one of the leads of these stories?" Neptune pointed out, and Uni looked down, judging as this was Neptune, she figured she couldn't just lie her way out, and if she tried to avoid answering, shed just badger her until she got an answer out,
"I- I just don't belong is all, I mean Nepgear and Uzume are so close, and I don't know Uzume is all… especially considering how our first meeting went down" The last part came out as a whisper, but was nonetheless still heard by Neptune. But the words Uni spoke held more meaning than the bug hunter could have known, it circled back to the root of Uni's troubled thoughts; how close was she exactly with Nepgear? How could she possibly tell? As the thoughts wormed her way in her heart, Uni quietly added, "And besides, Nepgear seems plenty happy without me anyway…"
Neptune scrunched her face at this, so she was dealing with a girl who needs more confidence eh? Quickly thinking of what she should do, Neptune spoke up after a moment, "Hey now, don't be too hard on yourself, you don't know what she says about you when you can't hear, and besides friendship isn't a contest" Neptune gave a pat on Uni's back to reassure her, but to Uni this didn't help her.
After all, wasn't it her problem that she didn't know what Nepgear thought of her when she couldn't see? And of course, she knew that it wasn't a contest, or at least she could rationalize that it shouldn't be, still… still, why did she feel she had to win? Did that make her a bad person? Didn't that make her conceited? The thoughts spiraled around in Uni's mind, as the other woman present continued, unaware of the inner turmoil of the young goddess,
"And besides, Uzume is like the nicest coolest person I know, she'd totally look past an awkward first meeting, say I don't remember her telling me about that, what did you do? Have spinach in your teeth or somethin?" Neptune obliviously asked, and Uni could feel her face heat up. The last thing she wanted to do was to have to talk about that again. You know, sticking a gun in the CPUs face and all.
"Oooooh uhhh nah it was nothing don't worry about it!" Uni stammered out, and Neptune narrowed her eyes at the candidate. Thinking for a moment, she soon concluded this could solve all the adolescents' problems. She wasn't sure if she fit in with Uzume and Nepgear? Well, then Neptune would just drag her in. With a mischievous smile, she stood up, ignoring the quizzical look she received, before loudly making her way over to the other group,
"Heyy! Uzume! Uni here told me her first meeting with you was super awkward, but she won't tell me what happened, spill!" She rushed over, and Uni could only look on in abject horror, before shooting up trying to catch up to the pesky woman.
"Hey! Get back here!" She yelled, but to no avail, as Neptune had already garnered the red-haired tomboy's attention, Uni huffed as she arrived on the scene, "You're just as much an ass as your other self you know?"
"Teehee~"
"That wasn't a compliment!"
"Goodness Uni, calm down it wasn't that bad" Nepgear pleaded with her friend as Uzume pondered for a moment before speaking,
"Oh, me and Unisy? Say how did we meet? Oh yeah!" Uni let out a very loud audible sigh as the goddess began spilling, "She pointed her piece in my face and was all like 'freeze bitch!' It was pretty funny looking back!" Uzume gave a hearty chuckle as she explained the details, and Uni could only feel her embarrassment grow,
"It was a tense moment ok!?" She defended herself, only adding to the laughing of Uzume, who was joined by Nepgear after a short while, and as she tried to stop the laughing fits of the two goddesses, eventually she turned to face Neptune, whose face bore an unreadable expression before she eventually spoke,
"Say Uzume, she pointed a gun in your face?" Neptune spoke and quickly all parties stopped their laughing, she didn't seem quite pleased with this development,
"Ohh uh yeah, I guess" Uzume nervously scratched her neck as Neptune narrowed her eyes, soon it was Nepgear who spoke up,
"O-oh Neptune it's fine it was just a really tense situation, other Sis and the CPUs just got kidnapped by Kurome, and Uni was just confused is all," She tried her best to explain the context, but still, Neptune kept her look,
"Still don't like hearing people were pointing guns at Uzume is all" She calmly explained,
"Jeez it was a while ago, just let it go" This time it was Uni, who made the mistake of speaking with barely hidden annoyance, after all, it was Neptune that trudged it up in the first place, she was, however, not expecting the next thing as she soon found her eyes staring down the barrel of Neptune's quickly drawn pistol, finger on the trigger "Eh?" was all Uni could manage out,
"Woah Nepsy what the hell!?" A shocked Uzume recoiled at the sight, this was not like her friend in the slightest,
However, before any words could be spoken, a blur right beside Neptune knocked the pistol out of her hand, and soon Nepgear stood in between the women, beam saber drawn, and by the looks of it, she too was not particularly thrilled. But before the situation could dissolve into something everyone there would regret, Neptune's face returned to her usually beaming smile, as she spoke,
"Just kidding~" She bent over, grabbing her pistol, pulling the trigger a few times, "Not even loaded~" Before either of the candidates could question what the hell had just happened, Neptune grabbed Uzume and with a wave, the two sped off, "It was great catching up, you two don't have too much fun now~"
As the duo made their way down the worn path, the events that just transpired finally accumulated in Uzumes mind, halting their progress she gave a harsh stare to her partner, "Ok seriously, what the hell was that!"
"Oh just a little acting, our dear tsundere just needed a little reassurance of her place in my dear little sister's solar system~" Neptune cheekily explained, only receiving a stare from the redhead,
"What?" She still wasn't getting it, weren't there like, at least 10 ways to accomplish that that didn't involve pointing her gun at someone, loaded or not that was beyond stupid!
"Oh, don't worry about it, besides it was a little payback too, I don't like the idea of anyone pointing a loaded gun at you, I'd Nep up anyone who threatens my Uzubae" Neptune warmly smiled as the two made their way down the path, unbeknownst to either, was that they were walking in the wrong direction.
Back in the clearing both of the girls could only stare blankly at what had just transpired, that had to be one of the oddest things either had ever witnessed, after a few minutes of doing nothing, it was Nepgear who spoke first, sheathing her blade, and turning to face Uni,
"I'm really sorry about that Uni…" She looked down, and with the way she spoke it almost sounded like she held herself responsible, and Uni could only chuckle at how in character that was for her friend,
"Jeez, you act as though it was you who pointed the gun at me, it's ok, I kinda deserve it no?"
"But- but" Nepgear seemed conflicted for a moment before relenting, but under her breath, she added, "I don't like it if anyone points a gun at Uni…" She pouted, and Uni's breath hitched for just a moment, there it was again.
Was that it, was it her that no one was allowed to do that too? Well, surely that was the case, but was she any special to her? Uni could feel herself growing more and more frustrated by the thoughts, why did it even matter!? She just had a friggin gun pointed at her! Although, in retrospect, she should have known it wasn't loaded considering she had checked said gun not 5 minutes prior. But still! Gritting her teeth, Uni forced her mouth into action, she couldn't take this anymore,
"Say… you acted real quick back there, didn't you?" Uni tentatively asked, receiving a nervous chuckle from Nepgear,
"Oh, did I really? I guess my body just acted on my own…" She scratched her head as she tried to worm her way out of the questioning,
"Acted on its own huh? Typical I guess…" Uni said semi dejectedly, trying her best to force her face into a smile, she was just looking too much into things again.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Nepgear asked concerned, Uni had a habit of not saying what she actually meant, which left her to dig through all the hidden meanings,
"Nothing don't worry about it, I was just being stupid again, looking too much into things" Uni tried to wave her friend off, but her tone betrayed her, as Nepegar soon turned to look her right in the eyes, a determined look on her face,
"That means Uni is hiding something again, tell me!" Nepgear looked straight into Uni's soul, and if for only a minute Uni wished that were the case, if it were then she wouldn't have to say her next words. For she knew there was no way out of this situation for her, Uni couldn't even face the planeptunian as she forced out the words,
"It's just… what am I to you Nepgear?" Her voice was quiet, fragile, and did little to hide the confusion and fear in her heart. And for a moment Nepgear was taken aback by the state her friend was in, but for only a moment, as she quickly brought her in close, wrapping her arms around her.
"Uni, why would you ask that?" She asked gently, clearly, this wasn't an isolated issue because of what Neptune had done, this had to have been building for a long time for Uni to be acting like she was,
"Y-you have so many wonderful people around you a-and I-I'm just a shy workaholic who can't say what she actually means I-I-I I just want to be close with you b-but how can I even compete?" Uni's voice shook as she finally let out everything that was swelling in her heart, laying it out for the world to see. She could feel herself shaking, but only felt the arms around her tighten,
"Goodness, who said you had to compete?" Nepgear sweetly spoke as she attempted to calm Uni down,
"B-but if I lose… I-I just want to be close with you… I-I'm just a no-good bad selfish terrible…" Uni had devolved into full-blown tears at this point, not even knowing what words left her mouth,
"Uni! Uni!" Nepgear backed herself away as she looked at Uni with fierce eyes, "Who said any of that about you! It wasn't me, how can you say that about yourself!"
"B-but…"
"No buts! Do you want to know what I think of you? Uni, you're one of the most wonderful people I've ever met, you're motivated, kind, sweet, always there, super cool, reliable, cute, and if I ever need someone I can rely on I always call you first. And you know what else Uni?" Nepgear spoke fiercely as she starred Uni right in her eyes,
"W-what?" Uni responded quietly
"If it were a competition, you already won…" Nepgear, deciding to leave no doubt, pressed her lips against the lastationette, and Uni could feel her heart melt, and all the worries and burdens she had needlessly put on herself felt lifted…
Well only for a moment, as….
"Nep Jr! Nowa Jr! Where are you tw-" The Neptune of the hyperdimension called out, as she sped along the path, stopping when she spotted the pair in question,
"EHH!?" Both girls immediately retracted themselves as they stared at the goddess, who only looked on, an absolute shit-eating grin plastered on her face,
"Oh ho ho so my innocent adorable little sister is taking smoochie breaks when she's supposed to be hunting baddies is it?" She smugly pointed out, "Don't you know how lewd that is~" She hugged herself as she continued laughing maniacally,
"Neptune! Thi- this huh isn't what it- well it is, but I mean, we just start- I mean we just…" Nepgear spoke more words per minute than should be humanly possible, as her partner was still short-circuiting from all that had just happened, her mouth agape.
"As an older sister you know I'm supposed to test all potential suitors of my lovely Nep Jr~ And what better way than to interview the very twin-tailed tsun mess that knows her best! Oh, Nowaruuuuuu!" Neptune turned and began sprinting back into the thick of the woods, leaving behind the beyond embarrassed candidates. Who both shot up, and began their pursuit, even though they both knew that somehow this would be in vain… maybe if they hid in the forest they would never be found and have to deal with the consequences of-
"Nowaruu! Your sister totally violated like all the international treaties and stuff!" Or maybe not, as Neptune had already spotted Lastations CPU, and was eagerly explaining what she had witnessed,
"Uni did what!"
Yea the woods weren't sounding too bad at the moment…
It is I again, here to enlighten you all once more,
Gigarot- only Peashy can brute force her way through every situation, and perhaps that's all the excuse Nepgear really needed, and if this chapter was any indication, then yes, Noire definitely received the photos lol
end5- Well I'm glad you enjoyed my Peashy stories, other than these they might be my favorite stories I've written, so im glad to see someone enjoyed them. As to the first part, I don't know why I'm the only one who's thought of Uni and Nepgear babysitting Peashy, it's like the cutest possible thing ever.
