University Journal Entry 1: My name is Tajiri Nishinomori; my life revolves around how Pokemon as a species disappear, change, and can become more than what they currently are. I guess it's a family thing, being named after two major figures in these fields. But it also helps that I had something to do other than what I've got. I teach at a university here in Galar, out of sight of Professor Magnolia and her assistants. What do I teach? Anything they assign me really. If anything, I'm still pretty much a student. I wonder if this is how the trainers feel after getting the badges.
If I had to guess where my journey started, it was when an egg hatched and my first Pokemon was a Pikachu. Not a Pichu as I first anticipated, but a Pikachu. I dared not go into the details of how and why it happened. So I got into my family's research on evolution.
Between internships with Professors Elm and Rowan, I found correlation with something beyond the standard metamorphosis. Some generations of Pokemon from times long ago had baby forms. A few Meowth for example seemed to have had them. Only unlike the strange cases with Snorlax and other incense breeders, there was no way to discover them.
Hence why I began my theory. I believed that Pokemon were developing ways to better survive conditions. In the case of Snorlax for example, its prevolution Munchlax's, stats and behaviors left it vulnerable to predators. Partly due to how these Baby Pokemon often need affection at a high enough level to evolve. As for the ones that retain their baby forms like the Electabuzz line, I'm not entirely sure.
This brings me to my next observation. Barring Mega Evolution or the Maxing forms, Pokemon are limited in how many times they "evolve" (really need to change that phrase, going forward). Aside from the experience mechanisms to progress and survive, the ones that require outside sources seem to tap into the energy through conduits. Prof. Rowan tried to identify where this energy comes from, but it seems so far away. Like, even though its biological/environmental, wherever that energy comes and goes is out of reach.
Which brings me to another theory. Some Pokemon require environments and enough generations to metabolize energy for the process of this metamorphosis. Since Pokemon can't evolve more than twice, it's safe to assume some species are trying to find ways where they aren't completely vulnerable. Thus coming back to my friend. Pikachus and Pichus are very rare in most regions, like they can't be in more than one area. Whether it was a forest, Safari Zones, or an island town full of tourists.
I eventually found where my friend came from, a region nearer the planet's equator. Funnily enough, it's also the place where to find some authentic curry. Apparently, Ohm as I've come to call him, was a gift from my family's colleagues. Only they didn't seem to know much other than that. What I can find meanwhile is a higher average of thunderstorms. Somehow I doubt Ohm would need a Thunderstone to change given the electricity his species have been exposed to. I never tested the theory because I just kept getting more questions. If that was the case, does that mean that Ohm would have a form more advanced than Raichu? Plus if that was the case, what other Pokemon would be around? There'd have to at least be a predator of some sort so that Pichu would be a thing of the past. Frankly this raises way too many questions.
I don't have enough answers and it's not like I can get a trip to this region. The university makes so many cuts, I'd need something revolutionary. I guess I could try to get a Pokemon Trainer as an assistant. But who would work with a nobody?
University Journal Entry 2: I sent out the application and after a while I'm meeting a surprising candidate. His name is Jin Kiryu, a veteran vagabond trainer with an interest similar to mine. Like me, he has a theory on evolution, but his involves stats. When it came to a resume however, he's risking a lot on a presentation to me and me only. Wouldn't I know it but it involves a Tyrogue.
University Journal Entry 3: I accepted Jin after a successful test. Tyrogue metamorphed into a form I've never seen before from passively raising its accuracy as though it was a permanent stat. Jin has asked that we keep the form a secret. I don't really understand why, because with this discovery, he could make himself a professor no problem. But he insisted on just being my assistant. Better yet, he's bringing a friend in as another assistant. Well its a Pokemon but they don't consider themselves part of Jin's party. One that people are more familiar with but for whatever reason, are rarely seen. In any case, we'll be working on getting funding for travels. I haven't felt this excited since I was a kid. It feels like coming into something that was waiting for me and others to find. I can't wait to get through this.
