This is for Vallygirl. Jo is her favorite character and she loves my Patrick so I thought of a little story where these characters meet. It's quite random but hey anything is possible in SPN lol. Set in season 2 let's go :D

Jo found it strange to be in other bars. She was raised in the Roadhouse her whole life so she knew how to run a bar. Being raised in a bar can make you quite critical when it regards other bars. For starters she's already complained about the overall layout of the bar she couldn't help but point out the peeling paint from walls, the counter's rough texture, chairs that looked like it was standing on it's last legs and the stains on the pint glasses. The staff were quite rude as well. The Bartender was sucking chewing gum as she prepared Jo's drink.

"Enjoy." The Bartender sighed as she puts the glass of lemonade down in front of the hunteress.

Jo didn't want to drink any alcohol as she was driving tonight. She cups the lemonade and looks inside. She then sighs.

"No ice." She looks over and raises her hand. "Excuse me?"

The Bartender comes back. She made that annoying chewing sound again with the gum.

"What?"

"Can I have some ice please?"

"You pay extra for the ice."

Jo frowns.

"What?"

"Yeah we don't give anything away for free round here. I gotta make a living you know."

"Are you..." Jo shakes her head. "Are you kidding me?"

"Do I look like I'm kidding miss?" The Bartender raises her eyebrow. "You either pay up or no ice for you."

"Are you seriously selling drinks without ice? You have to pay for the ice. You are ripping people off."

"Look if you don't want it don't drink it but we don't do refunds here." She flips the towel over her shoulder and rubs her hands. "Anything else?"

Jo sighs and again shakes her head.

"No."

The Bartender turns her back on the hunteress and goes off to another customer. Jo rolls her eyes.

"Nice very nice."

She sips her drink and runs her hand through her hair.

"Well well well what's a lovely lady like you doing in a place like this?"

Jo didn't have to look to know the man behind her is drunk. She can the smell alcohol on his breath. The man then leans forward.

"Say...Is this seat taken?"

" I'm fine thank you. " Jo quickly shut him down.

"Now now no need to be like that." The man slurred. He points his finger in her face. "I was only asking a question."

"And I already gave my answer." She smiled at him.

His face twitched at that. Jo slowly clenched her fist. Her mother taught her to handle herself in these type of situations. Jo has dealt with many drunks in the past she knows how to kick their ass. She will get physical if things escalate. As the man goes to open his mouth a woman quickly comes over and slides into the seat next to Jo.

"Sorry about that." The woman puts her lipstick in her bag and laughs. "I lost track of time." She then turns her head towards the man. "Is he bothering you?"

The woman stared the man in the eyes. The man suddenly became uncomfortable. He then lowers his head.

"I...I was just leaving."

He quickly backs away and leaves the bar. The woman smiles and returns to her handbag.

"Hey!" Jo glares at her. "Who the Hell are you?"

The woman frowns at her.

"A thank you would be a nice?"

" I never asked for your help. I can handle myself. "

"I believe you." The woman nods. "But still...us ladies should stick together."

"Why did you help me? You don't even know me?"

The woman smiles brightly at her.

"I'm Lia. The woman who saved your bacon back there."

"You didn't save my..." She stops and sighs. "Jo."

"Lovely to meet you Jo."

"Are you here alone?" Jo asks.

"Oh no. My partner is over there."

Jo follows Lia's line of sight. Across the room sat a man. He had black hair and he wore a black leather jacket. He looks up and waves in their direction.

"You should join us." Lia stands up. "As they say more the merrier."

"Oh no I'm fine."

"I insist."

Lia wraps her arm around the hunteress and guides her towards the other table. Her partner is busy shuffling a pack of cards. His smirk turned into a loving grin as the two women approach him.

"Hello sweetheart."

He is Irish. Jo wasn't expecting that.

Lia bends down and gives him a kiss on the lips.

"You took your time." He mumbled into the kiss.

"I'm here now." She grins. "And I brought company. Jo this is Patrick my beloved. Patrick this is Jo."

The smirk returns to his face as he eyes Jo up and down. He then sticks out his hand.

"Patrick!"

Jo shakes his hand. Patrick noticed Jo's eyes on the cards.

"Ah." He grins. "You play?"

Jo shrugs.

"I done a few rounds in the past."

"How does Texas Hold em sound?"

He raises his eyebrow and waits for an answer. At first Jo is quiet. The couple didn't appear threatening they didn't raise any red flags. Patrick is very cocky and confident Jo has dealt with guys like him before. It made her mind wander to a certain guy who always wore that cocky smirk on his face. His green eyes always lit up along with his smile.

Jo then quickly shakes her head and pushes the image out of her head. This wasn't the time for daydreaming.

"Jo?"

Lia raises her eyebrow. Jo clears her throat.

"I uh I..."

A few rounds can't hurt right.

"Sure. "

Jo goes to get her purse out but Patrick stops.

"Not money."

Jo could have sworn Lia gave him a stern look. Patrick smiles.

"I have better idea. If I win I ask you a question if you win you can ask me a question. "

"Why?"

"That would be a lovely idea." Lia beamed. "A perfect way in getting to know each other."

"And it's fun to." Patrick gets out a box of toothpicks. He slides one into his mouth and smirks at Jo. "So what do you say?"

Jo wasn't keen on sharing information. For all she knew the couple could share stuff that are completely false. However part of Jo wanted to experience the thrill of a game right now. She felt confident she can win a lot of rounds. She has beat other hunters in the Roadhouse in the past.

"Okay." She sits down in the chair opposite him. "I'm in."

"Excellent! Can I offer you a drink?"

Jo grimaced as she thought of the Bartender. Patrick chuckles at her reaction.

"Aye this place is not up to scratch I will admit. It was the only bar around. Hey better than nothing I guess."

He bites down on his toothpick and quickly shuffles the cards. He splits the cards between them. Lia watched from the sidelines as Patrick and Jo studied their cards. Then both of them submitted their cards.

Patrick won the first round.

"So?" He gives her a curious look. "What's your favorite color?"

Jo frowns.

"Favorite color?"

He nods.

" Aye! "

"Umm...Green."

"What type of green?"

"Are you serious?"

"There are many shades of green." He shrugged.

"Umm...Apple green."

Like his eyes.

"Nice. "

He goes back to shuffling the cards.

Jo won the next round. She asked how the couple met. Jo couldn't help but smile as Patrick shared his story of his first date with Lia. He looks at his partner with love in his eyes. He spoke with such happiness. Patrick subconsciously intertwined his fingers with Lia. After the story Lia kisses his cheek.

"Darling contain yourself." He smirked at his partner. "We have company."

Lia rolls her eyes with amusement then she leans back and sips her drink.

Jo and Patrick went through a few more rounds. Jo found herself relaxing as the game went on. She quite enjoyed herself. Patrick's questions continued to be simple just silly questions like favorite song? favorite food? Jo's questions were more personal she asked where the couple are from and their jobs Jo wanted to use this as a opportunity to build a profile. Patrick didn't mind he was quite happy to answer the questions. Jo ended up learning a thing or two about Ireland.

Patrick won a round. He studied Jo's cards for several moments.

"Fascinating." He slides his toothpick along his tongue and smirks. "You are quite a strong willed individual I see."

"Is that a question?"

"More of a statement actually. The cards they can tell you a lot about someone's personality and life."

"Like tarot cards?"

"Something like that. This one the clubs it represents fire that means this person has fire in them they have passion and they are very determined. However this person is also eager to please they want to show the world what they can do but..." He taps the other card. "Certain relationships are holding them back. The hearts has been the most common out of your pack throughout the game which makes me believe that relationships are playing a key role in your life. So my question to you is who is holding you back?"

Jo blinks.

"Um..."

"Come now. Rules are rules you have to answer the question."

Jo sighs.

"My mom."

Patrick gestures with his hands as to say carry on. Jo rubs her sweaty palms on her jeans and again sighs.

"My dad died when I was young. I...I want to follow his footsteps but mom won't allow it she doesn't want me to get into their line of work instead she wants me to go to college and study but...I can't that...that is not me that is not who I am. I told her but she won't listen! She keeps treating me like I am kid. I'm sick of It! I am old enough to make my own choices now! I know what I want I have known for a long time what I wanna do with my life but she can't accept it. I hate it when we fight I do but it's her fault she's won't let go of the past. In the end I had to make the decision to leave."

"You are in this job right now?" Patrick asks.

"Yes."

"So you have what you want. You achieved your goal yet the cards tell me something different. You're mother is still holding you back. You said you fought with her?" Jo nods. "And you left?" Another nod. "You ended on bad terms with her?"

Jo bit her lip. Jo can still picture her mom's hurt expression as Jo packed her bags and left the Roadhouse.

"I never wanted to hurt her." Jo admits. "But like I just said she wouldn't listen."

"Was your father's job dangerous?" Lia asked.

"You could say that yeah."

"Ever thought your mother is just only trying to protect you?"

"Yes but..."

"Your mother already lost someone in her life she doesn't want to lose you to. Losing a child is the worst pain you can go through. I lost a child once..." She gives a sad smile. "I had to bury her. No mother should have to bury her own child. It's...it's not right."

Patrick gently squeezes her hand. Lia took strength from her parther. She takes a deep breath and blinks back the tears that threatened to form.

"I'm..." Jo gives Lia a sympathetic look. "I'm so sorry for your loss."

Lia smiles.

"It's been a while now. The grief is bearable now yes but it never goes away completely." She gently dabs her eyes with a tissue. "You have to put yourself in your mother's shoes see this situation from a mother's point of view if you can see how she feels about this then maybe you would understand why she is acting the way she is. She is not doing this out of spite she is doing this because she loves you."

"I know she loves me." Jo shakes her head. "But she has to let me live my life and let me make my own decisions."

"A mother would want what's best for their child." Lia again nods. "She would want you to be happy."

Jo snorted at that.

"Right."

"Why not just talk to her tell her how you really feel."

"Already tired talking, it always ends up in a argument."

"Maybe for once try to have a civil conversation. Tell each other how you feel, listen to each other."

"Lia is right." Patrick agreed. "No one can stop you from fulfilling your dream you are entitled to make your own decisions. For once rather than think about yourself think about your mother and her thoughts and feelings about this. Both of you can talk it out and maybe...maybe your mother might come to her senses like Lia said a mother wants her child to be happy."

Jo processed what the couple told her. Jo always thought about what she wanted to do with her life. She never considered about the possible pain her mom could go through. Bill's death hit Ellen hard. Ellen didn't want to lose another loved one to the hunting life. Memories of her mom flashed across Jo's eyes. Memories of the time when Jo was young and her mom was drinking heavily. Jo remembered her mom crying in her room as she grieved her husband's death. Eventually her mom resumed her duties at the bar however the pain and loss never left her eyes.

Jo closes her eyes. She didn't want to her mom to go through something like that ever again. However Jo couldn't bring herself to give up the hunting. Hunting is her life it's what she always wanted to do. If she gave up and decided to follow the route her mom planned out for her she would never be happy it would only cause her relationship with her mom to crumble even further.

"Tell each other how you feel, listen to each other."

"Both of you can talk it out and maybe...maybe your mother might come to her senses like Lia said a mother wants her child to be happy."

Jo runs her hand down her face.

"I didn't like how I ended things with her. I...I want to make amends. "

"You can call her?" Patrick smiled.

"Yeah." Jo nods. "I will."

Lia beamed at that.

"I'm so glad to hear that. It's never good to end things on a bad note you never know what's gonna happen next life can be very unpredictable. "

Jo agreed with her on that.

"Before I go. " Jo gestures to the pack. "One last round?"

Patrick smirks.

"Sure."

Jo won the round. Patrick frowns as he looks at the card.

"Something wrong?" Jo asks.

"The Six of Hearts represents selflessness and sacrifice. This person makes a sacrifice for the ones they love."

"I...I haven't made any sacrifices? "

"Doesn't have to be now. This one could be for the future."

"So what you are psychic now?"

Patrick smiles.

"It's all in the cards my dear. I'm just reading what I am seeing."

"Huh. Well umm it was nice meeting you both."

Jo goes back with surprise when the other woman wraps her arms around her.

"Stay safe." Lia smiled. "And good luck."

Jo hugs her back.

"Thanks."

Patrick gave her a salute. Jo nods at him and smiles.

"Well...Goodbye."

Jo waves at the couple before leaving the bar.

Jo goes to her car and gets in. She sits down and sighs heavily. She then gets out her phone and finds her mom's number. She presses it and waits for it to ring. After a few rings a voice comes through.

"Hello?"

"Hi mom."

"Jo?" Her mom becomes worried. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah I'm fine hey umm I was wondering if we could um maybe meet up and grab a bite to eat...maybe...maybe we can talk as well."

it was silent for several moments. Then her mom answered.

"Yes. I would...I would love that very much."

" I'm not far should be able to reach you tomorrow around...noon? Is that okay? "

"That will be perfect. I will see you then. Jo."

"Yeah mom?"

"I...I love you. You know that right?"

Jo smiles.

"I know and I love you too mom. I will see you tomorrow. "

"I look forward to it."

The mom and daughter eventually wished each other goodbye then the call ended. Jo leans back in her seat. She suddenly felt better and she had a feeling things are finally going to start looking up. Forgetting about Patrick's future warning Jo starts up the engine and reverses out into the car park.

She then drives off into the night.
