So I know everyone has been waiting for an update to Jailbird and I'm happy to tell you that I just started writing chapter 16. In the meantime, I decided to start a series where we take a look into Sasuke's time in jail before Naruto came. Think of it as a prequel to Jailbird.
DISCLAIMER: I do not own Naruto. This is a work of FICTION. Some scenes in this story may be triggering to certain individuals.
"Has the jury reached a verdict?" The judge of the 45th District Criminal Court of Konoha asked the jury of 6 men and 6 women that were charged with deciding if 16-year-old Sasuke Uchiha was guilty of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of a firearm and for the murders of Ritsu Kai and Jin Matsuda. It was a case that captivated the town of Konoha. Sasuke, who was homeless after running away from an abusive foster home, was accused of shooting two people. His court appointed lawyers argued that the boy did it in self-defense, trying to rescue his friend Ritsu from getting abducted by Jin and his accomplices. The state, however, was arguing that Sasuke lied about being friends with Ritsu. They claimed that Sasuke was dealing drugs and that Ritsu was trying to short change him, so Sasuke shot him. They also argued that Jin was only there because he heard arguing and wanted to see what was going on, and Sasuke shot him because he didn't want any witnesses to go to the police. It was a tense 4 weeks of presenting evidence and today was the day the jury would deliver the verdict.
"We have, your Honor." The jury representative replied. Everyone in the court room stood up. Sasuke, who was wearing a red jumpsuit from the Konoha Juvenile Detention Center was nervously standing next to his lawyer. His dark hair was combed as best as he could manage it and his eyes had dark bags under them from lack of a good night sleep.
"On count 1 of the inditement, we the Jury find Sasuke Uchiha guilty of Possession of a Controlled Substance. On count 2 of the inditement, we the Jury find Sasuke Uchiha guilty of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm." Sasuke's lawyer lightly squeezed Sasuke's shoulder, knowing that the next two verdicts will decide the rest of the young boy's life. The court room was deathly silent as they waited for the final verdicts.
"On count 3 of the inditement, we the Jury find Sasuke Uchiha guilty of the murder of Ritsu Kai." Loud murmuring broke out in the courtroom as the verdict was read. Sasuke tensed up as the judge banged his gavel to quiet the Courtroom. "On count 4 of the inditement, we the Jury find Sasuke Uchiha guilty of the murder of Jin Matsuda." A loud cry broke out from Jin's widow as the final verdict was read. Sasuke slumped down in his seat, a look of shock on his face. His lawyer slammed his fist down on the table in frustration.
"I'm so sorry Sasukeā¦" The lawyer whispered in the young boy's ear, lightly rubbing Sasuke's back. The slam of the gavel silenced the now noisy courtroom.
"Defendant, approach the bench." The judge ordered. Sasuke stood up, a little shaky on his feet. He and his lawyer walked over to the judge's bench. The judge looked down at Sasuke, a serious look on his face.
"Son, I don't know how you got those pills and gun or why you shot those two people, but I'm not going to take it easy on you just because you are a teenager. I'm sentencing you to life in prison, with a chance of parole after 60 years or possibly earlier with good behavior. You will serve your time in Konoha Maximum Security Prison." With a bang of the gavel, Sasuke's life was now completely changed. The bailiff put a hand on Sasuke's shoulder and started leading him out of the courtroom. On the way out, they passed Jin's widow who had tears running down her heavily made-up face.
"MURDERER! HOW COULD YOU MURDER MY JIN IN COLD BLOOD?! HE WAS A GOOD MAN AND A LOYAL HUSBAND!" She screeched. Sasuke stared at her.
"If you only knew the things he did, you wouldn't be calling him loyal." Sasuke replied.
"I HOPE YOU BURN IN HELL, YOU BASTARD!" She cried, having to be restrained by multiple family members because she was angry enough to leap over the seats to get to Sasuke. The bailiff pushed Sasuke away from her and out of the courtroom. Once they left the court, the bailiff handed Sasuke off to a guard and the two headed down a long hallway to a holding cell, where Sasuke would wait for the bus to take him to Konoha Maximum Security Prison. The holding cell was small and only had two long concrete "benches" to sit on. The guard led Sasuke into the cell, uncuffing the handcuffs. Before he left, the guard put his hand on Sasuke's shoulder.
"Son, I ain't gonna sugar coat it for you. You're about to be a little fish in a large pond full of sharks. The SECOND you show any type of weakness in there, they're gonna pounce. You gotta be strong, not only physically, but mentally. But most of all you gotta be smart. One wrong decision and you end up six feet underground. Don't be a little fish. Be a shark." With a soft pat, the guard left the holding cell and locked the door behind him.
A few moments later, Sasuke Uchiha sobbed.
Here's the first chapter! Like I said in the beginning, I AM working on the next chapter of Jailbird. Hopefully, I get if finished this week. Please review and tell me what you think of this story and if you're interested in me continuing it.
