Summary: The moon-landing had changed the course of history when human made first contact. It opened Earth up to space-travel, exploring the solar system and their now allied planets. Chiron Academy is the leading high school training future space explorers.

Percy Jackson grew up dreaming of one day traveling the stars. When he gets into the academy, he makes a lot of new friends, among them his new crush the half-Plutonian Nico.

Things change when Nico confides in his friends that he is actually the prince of Pluto – and that Pluto is in the middle of a horrible war. Together, the group of their close friends, they decide to ditch school, steal a space-ship and go out into space alone and unsupervised to help.

The Prince of Pluto

A Journey to the Stars

Chapter 19: Arriving on Neptune

They essentially held their breath as they passed Jupiter's orbit and crossed into the most dangerous parts. No one laughed or joked, they all just poked their food nervously. No games were being played. Most stayed close to windows, tried sneaking onto the bridge. Percy insisted on pulling double shifts, he wanted to be there, just in case. They didn't even argue with him on it.

Tensions were high and tempers grew shorter as everyone was short on sleep. They had multiple close calls during the journey, thankfully their ship was small and managed to hide in the rings of Saturn. The distance was long, it took them nearly a full week to get past Uranus.

"We're so close to Pluto", whispered Bianca, her voice a mixture of dread and excitement.

"We're not going to Pluto. Not right away", interjected Percy seriously.

Many of the crew members were on the bridge, or lingering outside peeking in. Those were the nerves, showing in nearly every one of them. Nico could see it in the tense lines of his sister's body and wings as she stood close to the front window, staring ahead. Or, at least she had been until Percy spoke. She whirled around, a glare on her face and her wings raised high.

"Who do you think you are?", asked Bianca, voice loud and angry as she got all up in Percy's face. "We – my siblings and I – are on this mission to get home. We're nearly there and you say no-"

"Listen up, princess", interrupted Percy rather unimpressed, crossing his arms over his chest and straightening up to loom just a little bit over Bianca. "We're not on Pluto yet. This is my ship. And I am the captain, that is who I think I am. It's a miracle we made it this far without actually putting ourselves in danger. Pluto is directly under attack, far as we know. Landing there unprepared is a suicide mission and none of us signed up for that and I will not let you, or your siblings, run head-first into this either, just because you set your mind to it. Long as you're on my ship, I outrank you so sit your ass down and listen to me, di Angelo."

Quite a few of the bystanders blinked stunned at that. Bianca was not just royalty, she was an alpha and she was a year above Percy, but the omega didn't just not back down, he stood his ground and he put Bianca into her place. Nico should not find this as hot as he did, but oh he did. Percy speaking up not just for himself, but against Bianca, in a way Nico would never dare with his big sister? Damn.

"Bia, calm down. Listen to him", grunted Luke as he grabbed her by the arm.

Thalia had Bianca's other side, both effectively holding her back from jumping Percy. To his credit, Percy hadn't even flinched, he still stood his ground, glaring her down very calmly. Nico had never been as turned on in his entire life. Biting his lips, Nico leaned against the wall, watching.

"We've been talking about this for days", whispered Annabeth next to Nico. "Percy, Luke and me. Playing out different scenarios, routes to take. What to do."

Nico hummed curiously, his eyes on Percy, watching his gorgeous omega, standing there like the leader he was, waiting for Bianca to calm down so he could explain. It took Bianca a few moments, deep breaths, to lower her wings and begrudgingly stare Percy down.

"It's a miracle we made it this far and that's thanks to our relatively small vessel", started Percy. "Pluto is currently under attack. Our vessel isn't that small though; we would draw very unwanted attention if we tried to land on a war-riddled planet right now. Not to mention we have no idea what we'd be getting into. There are no news being leaked, not to Earth, not that detailed, and it's been weeks since we left now. We need information before we can do anything."

"So, what's your great plan then?", asked Bianca, eyes narrowed.

Narrowed in that way that indicated that she saw the reasoning but didn't like it. Nico knew that look, he always got it when he was right during an argument. Grinning a little, Nico crossed his arms and relaxed. He liked where this was going. Not that he wasn't also very curious to hear the plan; he had been quietly worrying about this for days now.

"We're a bunch of kids, Bianca", said Percy, searching Bianca's eyes. "All of us. We're kids. Walking into an active war-zone as it is would be ridiculous, with how little information we have even more so – but we are also all kids. So, what we're going to do is we're going to get some adults, we're also going to get some information and then we make a serious plan."

"And where do you propose we get these helpful adults with the info from?", asked Bianca.

"Neptune", replied Percy patiently. "Neptune is allied with Pluto, I've kind of formed a friendship with Rhode and I hope that will give us a bit of room with them. If nothing else, they'd be able to give us information on what is going on with Pluto right now."

The look of begrudging agreement on Bianca's face darkened even more and Nico smirked. His omega was so clever. After a moment, Bianca nodded and heaved a sigh. Finally, Luke and Thalia let go of her, exchanging a look behind Bianca's back.

"That one was all him", whispered Annabeth. "I didn't think landing on Neptune was even an option, because... well, all life is beneath the surface. As soon as we land, we would most likely get shot first before we can even explain ourselves. I hadn't considered that Percy's connection to Rhode might give us... safe passage."

Nico's wings twitched a little with how eager he was to run over to his omega and hug and kiss him. However, considering how wonderfully Percy had just presented as the captain and leader, he felt like smooching him in front of the crew might undermine Percy and Nico wasn't about to do that. So he just stood there, tensely, waiting for the room to clear out – aside from the essential personal. Everyone else was reading the situation and also understood the implications of them soon landing on Neptune. Finally, getting off this ship again. It had been close to two weeks now that they had been stuck here since Ceres – and even the stop on Ceres had only been leave for a limited amount of people (three. Everyone else was still pouting just a little to have missed out on that). The idea of getting off the ship again, touching ground, it made the crew buzz with excitement.

"You. Are. Amazing", whispered Nico lowly as he finally approached Percy.

He wrapped his arms and wings around his omega and pulled him in for a kiss. Percy giggled a little as he got nuzzled by his alpha, his own arms slowly winding around Nico's neck.

"Yeah? I gotta admit, I was kinda... nervous, about this. Speaking up to her. She is older than me and an alpha and we are doing this for her – and you and Hazel. But..."

"But she's been driving herself mad", interrupted Nico, peppering Percy's neck with kisses. "I haven't been able to speak up to her either and I thought her single-minded focus is... too intense. I know she means well, I know she is eager to get home, I know that this feeling intensifies the closer we're getting, I can feel it too. All I want is to... to get home, to hold our parents. But we can't rush into anything. And you came up with a very clever plan, my very clever omega."

Percy tried to hide his smile by burying his face in Nico's neck. "Stop snogging the captain!"

Both turned toward a very amused looking Chris. Flustered, Percy ducked out of the room, tugging Nico along. The two headed back toward their room, where Nico went to sit down on the bed. He kind of expected Percy to follow him, however the captain walked over to the screen.

"I'm calling Rhode", explained Percy as he dialed. "I know we don't want to let the school know where we are. Annabeth encrypted all outgoing messages and I trust Rhode."

"You don't need to justify yourself, babe", said Nico with a chuckle.

He smiled to himself as he watched Percy. Truly, considering just how much Percy had protested to being captain, he had really grown into that role. The call connected, drawing Nico's attention. Rhode looked absentminded for a moment before she realized who was calling.

"Percy! Percy you're alive, oh I am so glad you're alive, I was worried sick. Your mom—well, she wasn't as worried, she was very convinced that you are alright, she has an unwavering faith in you which I find admirable. But I was just... going crazy with worry. You are all in such trouble-"

"Hi, Rhode, it's nice to see you again", interrupted Percy with a small smile.

"Oh. Yes. Right. Hello. I'm sorry, I just... I was a bit frantic", sighed Rhode, brushing her hair out of her face. "How... How are you? Where are you? Are you alright?"

"We're alright. Minor bruises but they're nearly healed by now too. And... the where... that's why I'm calling. We're close to Neptune and I was hoping to ask you a favor. Can you... call your family, request safe landing for us?"

Rhode made the most troubled face at that, forming and abandoning a couple of words before she heaved a deep sigh. "Only under one condition. You're not going to Pluto. You aren't. You're children, there is an actual war going on, the planet is devastated. Stay on Neptune, whatever you want to do, request my father's help. He will give it to you. Let the adults handle this."

"That was the plan... as far as they'll cooperate", replied Percy with a sharp nod. "Thank you."

The call disconnected after another disapproving look from Rhode, expressing all of her worry and concern and just how much she would prefer if Percy came home right away. Nico smiled to himself as he opened his arms and welcomed his omega into a hug, kissing him gently.

/break\

No one was as excited to be on Neptune as Percy was. He had dreamed of this since he found out that he was Neptunian, but he hadn't exactly expected to come here for years. After graduation, after he got an assignment, at one point down the road. Not right now, not under these circumstances.

"I... It's beautiful", whispered Percy in awe, mouth hanging open a little.

With a small smile on his lips did Nico step up to his boyfriend, resting a hand on his lower back in support. Yes, Neptune was quite beautiful. Nico hadn't been in over a decade, but he did have a faint memory of coming here with his parents and older siblings. As far as the eye could see there was... surface, or so one would think. It was thick ice though, a thick sheet of ice underneath which the life of the planet was actually buzzing. All they saw right now was sparkling blue ice, like the arctic but tinted in teal. It was a beautiful frozen wasteland.

"Not to state the obvious but uh... there's nothing here", pointed Leo out confused.

"Right. First year. Probably haven't taken Neptunian 101 yet either", huffed Reyna. "Neptune, on the outside, looks like an ice desert. All of its life lays beneath this sheet of ice, in the ocean."

"Oh. Okay. That is really cool. How... do we get in there? Dig a hole like for fishing...?", asked Frank, looking as confused as Leo, exchanging a look with the shorter one.

Leo nodded in approval, thinking that was a good plan. Percy huffed in amusement as he watched the two younger ones, though it was Hazel who giggled aloud and gained their attention.

"That's the thing, the ice is... hard as diamonds. You can't just break it. You have to call ahead and ask for Neptunians to allow you to land, then they will let you in", explained Hazel. "Neptune is like... the perfect bunker. It's why Saturn and Uranus aren't here. There is no in."

"That's amazing", whispered Frank softly, looking at the princess.

"Again, not to state the obvious, but how do we get in then?", grunted Leo, even more confused.

"I called ahead. Asked Rhode for a favor", supplied Percy. "They're expecting us. Just wait."

"Waiting here, out in the open, is not exactly... a good idea", grunted Bianca tensely.

Nico rolled his eyes at his older sister, huddling closer to Percy. He tightened a wing around his omega to provide warmth, because Percy was shaking from the cold. As were some others.

"You could just shift. Your Neptunian fur is literally made for this climate", noted Annabeth.

"Wiseass", muttered Percy, though he followed the suggestion.

He shook himself, relieved at the warmth his fur provided. Subconsciously, his tail reached out for Nico, wrapping around his boyfriend's waist to keep him close. Which only seemed fair, considering that Nico had a possessive wing around him.

"Uh. I think they're coming for us", whispered Jason tensely, pointing at something.

The ground split apart and large doors opened from beneath. A single Neptunian stepped out, holding a trident and wearing armor. Percy suspected more were waiting beneath the surface, in case this was a trap of sorts. He was tall, broad shoulders, with orange tiger-stripe markings.

"I am Prince Proteus of Neptune. My sister told me of your arrival. Father wishes to see you. Get back into your ship and follow me. Hurry, I have more important things to do."

"Charmer", muttered Jake beneath his breath after Prince Proteus left again.

Rolling his eyes, Percy motioned for his crew to follow the suggestion. Once everything was set and everyone was accounted for, they started the engine and made their way toward the opening. Space ships were, thankfully enough, designed to also work under water, seeing as many planets had large aquatic sections one couldn't reach without submersion, such as Neptune.

"Holy shit it's even prettier from down here", grunted Nyssa in awe.

She stood on the bridge, leaning against the back of Rachel's seat and watching. A couple others were peeking in for the best view too and Percy couldn't hold it against them. It really was a magnificent view. The water was so clear, they could see for miles ahead. The animals swimming around them were terrifying and gorgeous, like large, bizarrely colored fantasy versions of Earth's animals. An octopus in neon-pink with blue and green swirls and dots on it, the size of the highest skyscraper Percy had ever seen. It swam up to them.

"W... What do we do? Shoot?", asked Chris nervously.

"No. That's a seareal. They're harmless. It's most likely just curious", ordered Percy. "Wait."

They stopped and waited, the giant octopus approaching them and wrapping a curious tentacle around the ship, poking them with another tentacle. It tilted its head curiously, poking them again.

"It's adorable", chuckled Percy. "I want ten."

"...Percy, no", grunted Nico disturbed. "That's not even pet-sized. At all."

"You're no fun", huffed Percy with a small pout.

The seareal let go of the ship and continued on its way, not having done any damage. Now that they were free again, they could follow Proteus once more. Deeper and deeper down, until they reached a gigantic dome – easily the size of all of the state of New York. It looked like a blue pearl. Proteus led them toward the entrance, they went through giant doors and parked, the doors behind them closing and the water draining from the room before the next doors opened and let them in.

"Welcome to Atlantis", whispered Nico softly, kissing the side of Percy's head.

"It's... brilliant. Pictures didn't do it justice", gasped Percy out.

The city was dry, the people walking the streets beneath them were still all fur. The architecture was brilliant, sparkly crystal-like buildings, high and intimidating. Percy was buzzing with excitement as they approached the palace. He could feel his boyfriend's hand on his shoulder, squeezing.

"This is... different", muttered Leo in total awe. "Like, wow. Vesta looked so, I dunno, Earthly? Like, it was a market. The cities. But this... this actually feels alien?"

All Percy could do was grunt in agreement. He knew exactly what the other meant. This was overwhelming, Percy's hands were trembling as they actually parked the ship. Before getting up, he took a deep breath, trying to calm himself. It was silly that he was nervous about this.

"Okay, people. Put your game-faces on", grunted Percy. "I'm the captain, I'm the first one out. I want Luke and Annabeth at my side. Bianca, Nico, Hazel... chances are Rhode told them why we're here. If any of you aren't comfortable being paraded around, it's okay to stay on the ship. For now, everyone else will wait in here for further instructions. We have to ask first before we all just... overwhelm them. I know you're eager to get out there and I'm fairly sure they will give us the go-ahead, but we don't want to offend anyone. Got it?"

"Aye, captain!", chorused the majority of them.

Nodding pleased, Percy led the way out. He was wearing full uniform. For the majority of their journey, they had been wearing casual clothes – sweatpants and shirts. Now, he wore the actual full uniform, not just the regular one, with all the bells and whistles that showed he was the captain. He'd taken a picture for his mom, because he knew she'd love to see him like this and because they were most likely getting kicked off the program and he would never actually get to wear this.

"Prince Proteus. Thank you for having us. I'm Captain Percy Jackson."

"Mh. Rhode's pet-project", grunted Proteus as he shook Percy's hand. "She's been telling the family a lot about you. Been singing your praises so much, father has been looking forward to meeting you. Please, follow me. I'd ask for your crew to stay put and I hope you do not take offense to the guards I am leaving with them, until my parents have judged you."

"No, of course not. I already requested my crew to stay back", assured Percy.

For a moment, Proteus assessed Percy, before he nodded pleased. Apparently, Percy had impressed. Good? He guessed. Their small group walked up the sparkling stairs, through twirled golden doors. Percy's eyes were drawn all over, staring at every single guard or... regular person that walked along. So many Neptunians. Rhode had been the only one he had known, it had felt so special. Here, being like this, looking like them, was normal. Next to him Nico winced as Percy squeezed his hand a little too tightly in his excitement. He shot his boyfriend an apologetic smile.

"I get it", whispered Nico, the smallest quirk of his lips.

"Father", called Proteus out, demanding all of their full attention. "I bring to you... Captain Percy Jackson. As well as the royal heirs of Pluto."

There was silence between them all as they entered the throne-room. The thrones were imposing, looking like open shells, decorated with gems and gold, huge pillows inside that the king and queen sat on. Three others stood at their side, their children. The royal family of Atlantis. They stood tall, wearing fancy robes with embroidery and decorations, coral-like crowns on their heads. The gems on the crowns and their clothes matched their markings in color. Nico didn't really remember the children, but he had the faintest memories of the king and queen. It was strange though, the king seemed so familiar, looking at him, with his dark-blue striped markings and as he stepped up to them, his very intense, sea-green eyes that looked so much more familiar than they should.

"Your highness, thank you for having us."

"Percy Jackson!", exclaimed King Poseidon, laughing loudly before he just... picked Percy up in a hug. "My daughter speaks highly of you! She said she'd bring you along the next time she comes here so we can help you find your biological father! I'm happy to meet you."

"Uh... I... me too, your... highness?", offered Percy a little awkwardly.

"Oh, do call me Poseidon. And my, you three. You have grown so much!"

As soon as Poseidon put Percy down, he went ahead and picked Nico up next for a hug. Afterward, he proceeded to hug Hazel and Bianca too. It only took a moment for Bianca to relax into the hug and it was strange, the way she relaxed for maybe the first time since they had left.

"...Uncle Poseidon...", mumbled Bianca as she returned the hug.

"Oh, Bianca, sweetie", whispered Queen Amphitrite as she brushed Bianca's hair out of her face. "Brave, little girl. It has been so long since you were last here. I'm glad you remember us."

"We... We're here, we need your help, we... our parents...", stammered Bianca together.

"You have come to the right place then", announced Poseidon with a smile. "I'm sorry, this is rather unexpected, had you called ahead a bit more, your parents would already be here-"

"Wh... What? How?", interrupted Bianca with wide eyes, reaching for her brother.

The king and queen exchanged a look, wide eyes, before Poseidon turned toward them. "We... thought that was why you came here, to see them. You don't even know that... that they escaped Pluto? They have been living on Neptune for weeks now, with your siblings. They're currently off Atlantis though, but we contacted them as soon as Rhode told us you were coming. They're on their way, they should be back by tomorrow."

If he wasn't holding onto both Percy and Bianca, Nico might have collapsed in relief.

Author's note: Aaand Percy finally meets his family! The next two chapters are going to focus on the family reunions; Nico and his siblings being reunited with Hades and Persephone... and the truth about Percy's heritage finally being uncovered. So, stay tuned ;)
