For this story, I imagine Bella and Annalise to look like Lily Collins. Also, I want to thank anyone who follows and favorites the story. A review is also greatly appreciated and will fuel me to write more.
After Billy and Jacob left, it was a particularly quiet night. We had dinner and watched a little baseball on TV with Charlie. Afterwards, I went up to my room to finish unpacking and I made a phone call to Renee to let her know everything was okay and I already missed her. Not only did I miss my mom, I also missed my friends. It was hard saying goodbye to them but I was already looking for new beginnings and curious to see who I would make friends with at my new high school. I picked out an outfit for the next day which consisted of jeans, a flowy white blouse, my favorite Converse, and a cute black jacket for the cold. When I was satisfied of my outfit choice, I decided to take a break from unpacking to read a book of poems.
The thing inside you that you are running from; the thing you are trying to escape. Find out what it is: confront it. Find out what it wants you to learn. Nothing can be loved fully until you fully own your pain.
I loved poetry. I used to sit under this tree back at home reading for hours in the bright, hot sun. Poetry brought me peace because I could relate. I've tried writing my own poetry but I'm not much of a writer. For a couple hours, I laid in bed finishing my book. Once I was done, I placed the book on my nightstand and decided to turn off the light. It was only 9:30 at night but I was feeling worn out from the long day. I closed my eyes, got under the covers, and started to dream.
Or at least I think I was. I was in a dark room. Mirrors were all around me. It was cold, the air biting my skin. Suddenly, I was being approached by someone. I couldn't really see their face but it was a man strutting towards me, I could tell from the broad shoulders. His hand reached out and grabbed my shoulder, suddenly yanking me and throwing me across the room. I hit the floor with a sickening thud and felt pain all over. I could swear I was bleeding from the impact. The man strolled over, like he was enjoying this, and leaned down and grabbed me by the neck. Next thing I knew, I saw sharp, protruding fangs and a snarl into my neck, puncturing his teeth into me.
I woke up with a start. It was a dream. It felt so real. The pain I was feeling was real. That was odd. I haven't experienced a bad dream like that in a long time. It was probably because I was sleeping in new surroundings. I reached over and grabbed my cell phone. It was two in the morning. I'm sure Bella and Charlie already gone to bed. I released a sigh and laid there, thinking about the strange dream. Then I laughed to myself, I dreamed of a vampire. I haven't thought of vampires in a while, I'm not sure why I was dreaming of one. I was intrigued by the idea of vampires however and decided to get up and dig out my old copy of Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice. I haven't read the book yet but I've seen the movie with Tom Cruise and a gorgeous Brad Pitt. I wasn't really into the vampire genre, I preferred John Green and Nicholas Sparks books.
I couldn't go back to sleep so I decided to stay up for a little bit and read Interview with the Vampire.
"Evil is a point of view. We are immortal. And what we have before us are the rich feasts that conscience cannot appreciate and mortal men cannot know without regret. God kills, and so shall we; indiscriminately. He takes the richest and the poorest, and so shall we; for no creatures under God are as we are, none so like Him as ourselves, dark angels not confined to the stinking limits of hell but wandering His earth and all its kingdoms."
I realized I was still reading when the sun came up and I checked my phone. 6:30. I let out a huge yawn and started getting ready for the day. Charlie and Bella were already up and moving. Bella opted to drive us to school in the truck, which I was thankful for. I didn't trust that bucket of bolts.
"I'm so nervous," Bella said.
"Don't be. You'll be great." I assured her.
And like that we were back to silence. I turned on the radio and skipped through a couple stations before settling on what I think was an indie station. The ride to school was pretty short and we were there. Everyone was staring at us. It was obvious we were the new kids. Bella looked down shyly and I just smiled and waved at people. I felt like a celebrity. Soon, we checked in at the office and got our new schedules for the year. Bella and I, thankfully, had a lot of classes together.
Suddenly, a guy our age with black hair approached us. "You're Isabella and Annalise Swan, the new girls. Or I should say, twins. Hi, I'm Eric, the ears and eyes of this place." He came up between us and wrapped his arms around us. "Anything you need. Tour guide, lunch date, shoulder to cry on."
Bella just stared at him, probably thinking is this guy for real?
"Nice. Thanks, man." I said.
"I'm more of a suffer in silence type." Bella told him.
"Good headline for your feature. I'm on the paper, and you're news, baby, front page."
"Wow, we really are celebrities." I bumped Bella's shoulder and she started shaking her head, externally freaking out.
"Whoa, chillax. No feature." Eric guaranteed her.
He walked away and I shouted after him. "Wait, what about me? I want to be on the front page!"
"Anna!" Bella scolded me. "Let's go." She dragged me to our first period.
School was particularly uneventful for the next few periods. A lot of people came up to ask about us and what living in Arizona was like. Once again, it was like being a celebrity. This was a small town after all. Everyone knew everyone. Gym was fun, however. We got to play volleyball and this is where I met Jessica and Mike. Bella, not being the athletic type, accidentally hit the volleyball on Mike's head. And Mike was smitten with her. I could tell just by how he was looking at her. I could sense a little jealousy from Jessica though. I could see right through her fake nice attitude.
"Hey, you guys are from Arizona, right?" she asked.
"That's right." I acknowledged with a nod.
"Aren't people from Arizona supposed to be like really tan?"
"Maybe that's why they kicked us out." Bella said, making Mike laugh and seeing him laugh, Jessica followed suit.
Finally, it was time for lunch and we ended up sitting at a table with Mike, Jessica, this new girl I learned was Angela, and Eric from earlier. We all got talking about how our first day was and typical teenager socializing. I did most of the talking for Bella, knowing she wasn't used to this much attention. That was when we noticed them.
They were walking inside the cafeteria, four of them from what I could see. Bella also noticed them and how could we not. They were devastatingly beautiful and chalky pale. The first couple that walked in, I learned was Rosalie and Emmett, Jessica explained, immediately going into gossip mode. Rosalie was blonde and beautiful like a model and Emmett was this big, brawny guy with a playful glint in his eyes. The second couple was Alice and Jasper. Alice was petite and her hair seemed to go in every direction and she seemed to have a bounce in her step. Jasper had honey blonde hair and looked like he was a tortured soul. He looked like he wanted to be anywhere but here. Jessica explained that they all moved from Alaska a few years ago and that Dr. Cullen was like a foster dad slash matchmaker. Finally, we spotted one more and I thought he was more beautiful than all of them. Edward Cullen his name was had bronze hair and dark eyes.
Edward walked past our table ignoring everyone and going to the table across the room, furthest away from everyone. I noticed Bella staring at him, a little too long. I held back a smirk. Did someone finally catch Bella's eye? I was curious and I turned to peek at the Cullen's and I saw Edward looking back at me. I decided to be brave and give him a smile and small wave. He only gave me a weird, rejected kind of look and turned away. I frowned, thinking what was up his ass that he reacted like that.
