Hey guys
I'm tired of trying to request you all to be patient about understanding a probable explanation of Maya's outbursts. If you have seen my story on Wattpad, then let me tell you that the reason why I'm trying to write Maya and Riley's interaction somewhat similar to Cory and Shawn. It is because the one reader who initially asked for a sequel was the one who suggested that storyline and that's why my entire story is based around that central idea.
I never planned on a sequel but I'm still trying my best to write something unique which makes my story stand apart from the others. I didn't want to threaten to take down the story, but you all are not leaving me with much of an option with all the complaints.
Are you saying that constantly complaining about the way a relatively new author writes his or her story should not be considered as rude?
I shouldn't have to put up with the constant complaints when I'm still trying to find my footing as an author. You may think that you are giving me constructive criticism, but the way you all are writing your reviews it definitely doesn't sound like that.
Don't mean to give away any spoilers but this chapter will be giving an insight about why Maya has been acting weirdly.
PS: There is a poll on my profile based on one of the suggestions I was given so if you guys like the idea then please vote so that I can try to write the story accordingly. Any other suggestions then please leave them politely in the review section.
Previously:
The gang talks about their memories with Lucas and Riley over the years.
Maya was sitting on her bed when Josh entered so he just walked over to her and sat beside her in silence, waiting for her to start speaking.
Maya says, "I don't understand why Riley keeps hiding things from me"
Josh replies, "She told you already Maya that it was not her story to tell. Riley has even kept your secrets from me even though I'm your boyfriend and I deserve to know just because she believes that it's not her place to tell me."
Maya argues, "But that's different-"
Josh cuts her off, "How is it different, Maya? Lucas and Riley were friends before they became a couple. You are her best friend but Riley respects the privacy of all her friends. Just like she kept your secrets, she kept her boyfriend's secrets as well. It's as simple as that. We all know that Lucas likes to keep some things to himself sometimes. Riley is always the first person he confides in because he trusts her the most and Riley respects that. And also, why are you getting mad about this when you yourself keep things from Riley?"
Maya asks, "What are you talking about?"
Josh replies, "You know exactly what I'm talking about. You still haven't told Riley about that night two months ago when we took a step forward in our relationship."
Maya says, "But that is private for the two of us"
Josh replies, "So then why should Riley tell you everything about what happens with her and Lucas? You yourself don't tell her everything. You don't need to give her the details because well I'm her uncle."
Maya asks, "Did you tell Lucas?"
Josh replies, "Yes I did because he was worried about you. You threw a hissy fit just because Riley didn't tell you about a date, she only got to know an hour back. Lucas was about to cancel the date so that you could spend time with Riley, like you wanted. I stopped him from doing that and told him that I would stay with you."
Maya asks, "Why are you telling me this?"
Josh replies, "So that you can understand that you're being unreasonable about this. Do you even know the number of times Lucas has cancelled his plans with Riley, just because you said that you needed her? He always tries to be the bigger person just so that your feelings aren't hurt because you are important to Riley. This weekend he took Auggie out to the park himself just because you suddenly decided to have a spa day with Riley. My nephew wanted to spend some time with his older sister, but he didn't throw a fit like you do every now and then. You hurt Auggie's feelings, but Lucas handled the situation so that you both don't end up fighting because that would hurt Riley."
Maya says, "But Auggie is her brother and he can spend time whenever he wants. I hadn't spent time with Riley since she started planning for her wedding in Texas."
Josh replies, "But at least you get to see her every day. Auggie only gets to see his sister on weekends, that also only if you guys go down to visit. Maya, I don't know what is going on with you, but you really need to understand that you have to try to consider other people's feelings. Auggie is a little kid but even then, he never threw a tantrum even though he had asked Riley to spend time with him the night before. Honestly, you're lucky that Lucas was there to handle the situation otherwise I don't know what would have happened. Cory and Topanga were expecting Auggie to get angry but Lucas somehow managed to keep him quiet."
Maya asks, "Why is everyone always taking that Huckleberry's side?"
Josh replies, "Maya, no one is taking anyone's side here. I'm trying to make you understand that you've been acting really selfish which is hurting my niece and my nephew. I love you but I really don't like that you hurt both of their feelings. And stop blaming Lucas for your actions. He is doing everything he can so that you can spend time with Riley like you want to. I can bet that the minute we step out of this room he'll come up to you for keeping you in the dark about this. Right now, I want you to tell me what is going on with you."
They both sit in silence for some time when Maya says, "You remember that night we spent together alone"
Josh replies, "Of course I do"
Maya says, "Well, I wanted to tell Riley first, but it's really difficult for me to talk to her about it, so I'll just tell you something and I really need you to not freak out about it"
Josh nervously replies, "Okay"
Maya says, "Well umm… I'm pregnant"
Josh looks at her shocked and asks, "What?... How?"
Maya sarcastically replies, "I'm sure you've read page 73 of your textbook in health class so you should know how"
Josh sighs and says, "Okay, that was a really stupid question"
Maya replies, "Yes it was"
Josh asks, "Is this why you've been acting a bit weirdly about Riley's wedding?"
Maya replies, "Kind of. I'm scared that I'm not going to be a good mother and I want to talk to Riley about it but she's busy planning her perfect wedding with Ranger Rick."
Josh says, "Okay first, you're going to be a great mother and I'm going to be with you every step of the way. I'm not going to run away and leave you and our baby like your father did. I can't promise you that we will be perfect parents because we are going to make mistakes. But I can promise you that we will learn from those mistakes and become better parents."
Maya replies, "Thanks Josh"
Josh says, "Now, how about we go outside and talk to everyone calmly and you can tell Riley whenever you feel ready, alright?"
Maya nods and they both get up to join the rest of the gang.
Just as Josh had predicted, the minute they step out of Maya's bedroom Lucas walks up to them.
Lucas says, "Look Maya, I'm really sorry that Riley didn't tell you about that day. I honestly had no clue about it otherwise I would have told her to talk to you. It's not that I wanted to keep you in the dark or anything but it's just that I don't really talk about it to anyone so Riley thought that I didn't want you to know. I'm really sorry about this."
Josh tries to hold back his laughter which earns him an elbow in his ribs from Maya.
Maya replies, "No, I'm sorry for overreacting about it. I should have understood the situation instead of blowing everything out of proportion."
She then turns to Riley and continues, "I'm sorry, Riles"
Riley simply comes forward and hugs her best friend bringing a smile on her fiancé's face.
Lucas had been slightly worried about Maya being mad at Riley for something which was not even her fault.
He knew how important Maya was to his fiancée, so he decided to apologize to her to ensure that the girls don't continue to stay mad at each other.
The gang sit down and talk for some time before they all go to their own bedrooms while Josh crashes in the boys' dorm room.
Do Maya's outbursts seem somewhat understandable now?
