Chapter 5 uncertainty.
The briefing room was quiet as the base commander stood over the 3D mapping system. He was sweating nervously. Something had happened; he wasn't known to break into sweat easily. Ghost took a seat next to 2 other squadron leaders. Their names were Seeker, and Boost. Boost was the leader of crosshair squadron, Seeker was in charge of strimer squadron. Both were fairly seasoned and friendly. There was one other squadron leader. Hey called him Lizard he heads up a squadron called skoll squadron. He was an amazing pilot and fought for Erusea much like Predator and Seymour.
"Allright is everyone here?" The briefing officer started nervously. "Okay, thanks to your defense of farbanti the Erusean army was able evacuate the majority of the city however there is still heavy fighting"
"Tell us something we dont know, '' Seeker said sarcastically. Seeker was short and had a buzzed haircut. He also had green eyes.
"Yeah we can look on the news for what you're telling us" Another pilot shot.
"Knock it off boys" Ghost said.
"As I was saying. Due to the heavy fighting we have constructed a new plan this plan is to controll or deystroy the Erusean ports."
"People are using those ports to escape. Are you sure that the last one is a good idea?" Lizard tuned in.
"It's the best Idea, those that can't make it out are going to have to find another way" Predator attempted to reason with him.
"I got family down in anchorhead no way im gonna bomb it." Lizard took a stance he wasnt going to give in.
"Then let's go help them, Sir requesting permission to take Mist and Skoll squadron to asist the operation in anchorhead bay?"
"Granted but be careful this will mostly be an air battle, we've been…" The Breifing officer tried on.
"Somthing wrong sir?" Predator asked. Looking at the Officer suspiciously.
"No nothing at all dismissed" The officer dismissed them. Something was off but Ghost couldn't quite put his finger on it. Ghost walked out of the briefing room and went towards the hangars. Outside it was amazing. It was very sunny and humid. Trucks drove around and Ghost could see children. Lined up at the fences starring in awe at the planes lined up in the hangar. They smiled and waved at Ghost as he passed by. He looked on at them and smiled back. He didn't know how they did it. They were allways able to be happy in almost any situation. Mabey it was becausethey didn't have any touch on war besides the bombings. They didn't know any more horrors besides that. Ghost almost admired them, their innocence was untouched. Ghost walked into the hangar, the two Gripen E fighters sat elegantly in the glistening sunlight The crew members were busy at work loading the missiles and weapons into the hardpoints. The crew chief was a taller broad shoulder man. Ghost had never seen his eyes before.
"Evening sir how went the briefing" The Crew chief said.
"We ship out in one hour, You'll have her up by then right?" Ghost asked.
"Come on, when have I ever let you down?" The Crew chief asked confidently.
"You have a fair point, So did you get those mods that I sent you in?" Ghost asked.
"Uh Yeah yeah come over here" the Crew chief took a tarp off of a neatly organized table. Several pieces of new softwear for the flight computer lay neatly on it. "We got the Enchaced ECU softwear in, this should help you hit better aoa without spilling your brains all over the cockpit" Ghost looked at the seemingly insignificant circut board. "We got an upgraded Light Blisk this should help with your acceleration and a buncha other neat do hickys in here"
"And the paint job?" Ghost asked.
"Copleson is finishing it up now, Aint that right Copleson!" the crew chief yelled over to one of the crew members. The crew member nodded and got back to painting.
"Can't wait for it, I'll be back in 30 to begin final prep, see you then" Ghost nodded.
"Aye sir, Hey watch that god damn fuel line!" The Crew chief yelled at one of the crew members working a fuel pump. Ghost chuckled and walked out of the hangar. He looked around again and noticed Seeker was wheeling out a white board and bringing it into the command center. Ghost paid no attention and walked towards the other hangars.
"Yo Ghost come over here for a sec!" He heard the sound of Boost coming from one of the hangars. Ghost jogged towards him and he was surrounded by his Squadron mates.
"Whats up"
"Is it really true that Devil 1 is back up?" One of the squadron members asked curiously.
"Yeah, tore streaker squadron a new one, I dont think ive ever seen a plane move like that before" Ghost confirmed. He still barely understood the Demons intentions but he seemed to have an interest in Ghost. Ghost inspected the F14s that Boost's squadron used. They each had a Shark face painted on the nose.
"Damn you watch yourself up there Ghost, HQs been blabbering about some radar contact they found in the area." Boost said going back to continue briefing his squadron. Ghost walked out and around and went back towards the hangar as it became time to sortie. Ghost walked over to his Gripen.
"Sir she's all gassed up and clean for you" The Crew Chief said taking Great pride in his work. Ghost Inspected it up and down. On his tail there was a spirit painted onto it. It was your stereotypical ghost but had a plane's control stick in his hands and a look of anger in its eyes.
"She looks great Chief, Phantom squadron couldn't have a better Crew." Ghost complemented.
"Sir we couldn't have a better pilot" The Crew saluted Ghost and he returned the favor. "Good luck out there sir".
"Thank you" Ghost climbed into his cockpit and closed the canopy. He spooled up the engines and looked over at Mists Gripen. On her tail there was a Hell hound inscribed onto the tail. She was already in her cock pit and nodded at Ghost. Ghost returned the nod and taxied off the runway.
"This is Skoll 1 we're in the air Phantom get on up here." Lizard's voice tuned into the coms system. Ghost said nothing, he flicked down his visor and punched the throttle. His plane glided off the ground swiftly. He waited for Mist before forming up with Skoll squadron and set a course towards anchor head bay.
