There is something missing from our world. The amazing animals that time has left behind. But what if we could bring them back? what if extinction didn't have to be forever? were going back in time on a safari with a difference, as wildlife adventurer Nigel Marvin plunges into prehistory to rescue creatures on the brink of extinction. his plan is to bring them back to the safety of the present day to give them a second chance.
this time, Nigel is traveling back 2,000 years to the mysterious islands of prehistoric New Zealand to save the last of an ancient species of giant birds.
Welcome to the ultimate wildlife sanctuary, welcome to prehistoric park.
Prehistoric park is now back into full swing. Thanks to Nigel's last mission a pack of velociraptors, a pair of mongolian troodon and a herd of microceratops all call the park home. But with more land to fill it's not long before Nigel has his next target.
Nigel's jeep can be seen driving on a dirt track leading to Raptor Rampart. We see Nigel getting out of the jeep and walking towards the terror bird enclosure. "Hello Bob." said Nigel looking down at Bob who was cleaning the terror bird enclosure. "Hiya Nigel what brings you up here?" "I was just checking up on the velociraptor pack." replied Nigel. "There doing absolutely fine nige". Said Bob going back to sweeping the terror bird sand bath. Nigel walks over to the raptor enclosure and sees Queenie and her pack drinking from the small stream running through their enclosure.
Nigel saved the velociraptor pack from a sandstorm in a cretaceous era mongolian desert.
"They look like they like their new home." said Nigel walking back to his Jeep. Before Bob could reply Nigel started to talk again."I'm just to see Sussanne before I go on my next mission so can you make sure the meadow enclosure is ready please Bob." "Already done Nige so for once I'm ahead of the game." The Two chuckled as Nigel drove away to Deinosuchus dip. Bob turned to the cameraman in Nigel's absence. "How long I stay ahead is another thing." Bob paused at the thought then turned to the contained terror bird who snapped through the bars of its temporary enclosure."Right time I let you back out aye." As if it was replying to him the terror bird let out a chirp.
The Terror bird won't be the only species of bird saved from extinction if Nigel's next mission is a success.
"My next target is a species of giant flightless bird that was unique to only one part of the world, New zealand." Nigel paused what he was saying as he changed the jeeps gear." I want prehistoric park to have one or two species of the Moa family. They are so special as are most species found in new zealand as they were isolated from the rest of the world for so long." The jeep Nigel is driving approaches a sign saying Deinosuchus Dip. "Unfortunately the Moa like many of the native species of new zealand became extinct when humans started to settle there."
Before Nigel can travel to prehistoric New Zealand for his next mission he needs to check up on one of the Parks more problematic residents the deinosuchus.
Sussane greats Nigel as he steps out of the jeep. "Hey Sussane how is she doing now she has a new diet?" " Hi Nigel I'm afraid she is still lunging out at staff so no change." The deinosuchus emerges from the water moving reeds with her snout to the bank of the river. "There is also that". States Sussane pointing at the deinosuchus. "She keeps gathering vegetation which in my professional opinion nigel leads me to believe she is building a nest." Nigel's face lights up like a young child at christmas! "I had a an inkling this was happening when she started to lunge at the staff but I didn't want to get my hopes up! This exactly like modern day alligators before I get to excited though we need to make sure she really is carrying eggs." Sussane cuts him off "I'll organise a scan for later to see is she is carrying eggs from before you rescued her or if she is just getting ready for breeding season." Both Nigel and Sussane look on at the deinosuchus with excitement "Thanks Sussane if deinosuchus are similar to modern day alligators in the respect of breeding that means we could be expecting up to 100 eggs." Sussanes face drops a little. "I'll leave you to tell Bob that news." Nigel teases as he walks back to his jeep.
With the news the park is potentially gaining another 100 deinosuchus Nigel decides now is a better time than any to leave for his next mission, mainly before Bob finds out.
We see a shot of the Jeep driving from the holding pens through the portal and into a field surrounded by forest covered mountains. The bright sun beats down on Nigel and his team as sounds of several birds calls echo throughout the valley. Nigel steps out of his jeep and takes a deep breath. " Wow this is amazing we have travelled back 2,000 years ago to the south island of New Zealand which is flourishing with wildlife."
Without the effects of humans this eden has been allowed to prosper in peace for centuries. However in a few thousand years this will all change and the rare species of animals unique to the islands will become extinct. That is unless Nigel can save some.
Nigel turns to the camera. " I'd like to venture up to the tops of the mountains to get a better look at this beautiful habitat." he raises his hand to shade him from the beaming heat of the sun. " We are bound to find a few moa from up there." And with that Nigel and his team began their trek to the top of the mountain.
Back at the park the ultrascan on the Deinosuchus has confirmed Nigel's theory that the 21st century will hear the pitter patter of up to one hundred thirty two foot prehistoric crocodiles in the near future. But its been left for Sussane to break the news to head keeper Bob.
Sussane is seen walking towards the old terror bird enclosure which thanks to Nigel's last mission is now home to a herd of mixed cretaceous era mongolian dinosaurs.
"I've just got back from performing the ultrascan on the deinosuchus, which let me tell you was a mission in itself! I've now got to inform Bob so we can prepare for their arrival." A look of dread crosses Suzanne's face as she enters the enclosure through the paddock door. "Hiya Sussane what do I owe the pleasure" chuckled bob as he emptied a bucket of salad around the enclosure. "Hi Bob I've just come back from Deinosuchus Dip and err I have some news for you." "she hasn't broken out of it has she we've had enough problems with the titanosaurs?" Sussane smiles "No Bob it's not that its.." Before Sussane can finish her sentence she notices something on the outside of the enclosure. " The Microceratops have escaped!". Three Microceratops can be seen heading towards the Elasmotherium enclosure. "Bye heck Sussane this is gonna have to wait we need to get them back!" Now sussane and Bob can be seen running after them.
Whilst Sussane and Bob try and contain a trio of mischievous microceratops. Nigel is about to be greated by one of New zealand's strangest animals.
Nigel and his team are now half way up the hill, littered around them are hundreds of small plump green birds that resemble fat green budgies. "This is just magical we have traveled back to a time were New zealand was truly isolated from the rest of the world." One of the birds wiggles itself towards Nigel."This is a Kakapo or the owl parrot." Nigel bends down and picks it up. " Aha because they have never seen a human before so they don't register them as a threat which allows me to pick them up. In fact their defense mechanism like all the flightless birds here is to just freeze and hope the predator goes away which is why so many unfortunately went extinct when predators such as cats and rats did come."
The Kakapo is now extinct in the wild however thanks to conservation efforts over one hundred Kakapo remain on protected islands in hopes to preserve the species to one day return them to their rightful home of New Zealand.
"As much as I adore these remarkable birds and any animal is welcome at prehistoric park, I hope that I will never have to come back and save the kakapo from extinction." Nigel puts the Kakapo back down to return to its nest. "It must be breeding season here and this must be the nesting sight for the kakapo." A dark brown bird a bit bigger than a Kakapo can be seen further ahead emerging from some shrubbery. "Now that looks like an extinct species of bird which we can rescue." says a grinning Nigel already leading the team towards its direction.
Whilst Nigel is about to great the first sign of prehistoric life Bob and Sussane are having trouble with the parks group of prehistoric escape Microceratops.
Sussane and Bob chase the trio of microceratops across the elasmotherium field. "They must have slipped out of the gate when I entered." yelled Sussane to Bob who trailed on behind her. "They are crafty things dinosaurs I'll give em that." replied an out of breath Bob. The smallest of the Microceratops ran right past Sussane before she had a chance to grab it" They are just to fast for us Bob we are going to have to think of another plan." Bob sighed before his face lit up hope. "I think I've just thought of it…"
Whilst Bob sets his plan into motion, Nigel meets the first species of extinct bird New Zealand has to offer him .
Nigel is now a meter away from the brown bird. Its feathers are a mixture of orange and brown speckles. " Now this is something!" Gleaned Nigel. " This is a Adzebill, they are found on both the south and north island however the South Adzebill can reach up to 80 cm in height just like this one!" "Adzebills were first thought to come from the same family as the Moa called the ratite which includes cassowaries and emus however they do not."The Adzebill looks at Nigel before it begins to break apart a log with its beak. "Now because of its large beak and strong neck support many experts believe the Adzebill used it to feast on lizards such as Tuatara or nesting chicks." The camera goes back to the Adzebill breaking apart the log. "But as you can see it actually used its large beak to get to insects." Nigel reaches into his bag and pulls out a Mango. " Now I think it would be rude not to join our new friend for a spot of lunch." Giggled Nigel as he began to cut open the large ripe mango.
Whilst Nigel enjoys his prehistoric picnic Bob puts his plan into action.
Sussane is standing in the Elasmotherium paddock watching the escaped Microceratops feasting on the Elazmatheriums lunch. "I've been watching them for twenty minutes now where is Bob?"Suddenly Suzanne's walkie talkie cracks into life releasing a deep bellowing sound. All of the Microceratops stand on their hind legs and run towards sussane and begin to mimic the sound. "What the-" before sussane can finish Bob interrupts "Sussane I've got Dexter here to call out to the others to lure them back, So once you've got there attention walk back to the enclosure". The camera now shows Bob holding a large male microceratops.
Dexter is the name that the team has given to the original Microceratops that Nigel rescued from Prehistoric Mongolia.
"Well if it got them here in the first place then this should work." he says as Dexter continues to groan into the walkie talkie. The Camera cuts Back to Sussane who is seen walking towards the mixed mongolian species enclosure with the escapie Microceratops following after her. The Elasmotherium snorts out thick steam from its nostrils before consuming the remains of its lunch.
Back in New Zealand Nigel is also enjoying his lunch with his new friend.
Nigel can be seen sitting against the bush, cutting of pieces of mango with his knife. " Now we know that Adzebill wont turn up its beak to insects but what about fruit?". Nigel then proceeds to cut off some of the mango and holds it out to the bird which almost immediately takes it from him with its huge beak. "Aha! I knew nobody could refuse my home grown mango! That's one of the many pros of having the park in such a hot climate." Nigel then takes a bite of some mango. From behind the bush that Nigel is sitting in front of a large yellow bird emerges. " This is extraordinary, this is Pachyornis geranoides or more commonly known as the Bush Moa".
A name the Moa is currently living up to.
"The Bush Moa is the most common type of Moa found here in New zealand as their bones have been discovered on both the South and North islands."
The yellow speckled bird moves out of the bush revealing featherless scaly feet. The Adzebill pays it no attention as it waits for Nigel to feed it more fruit.
"Our first Moa and what a beauty she must be the same height as an emu when she rears her head." The Adzebill impatiently pecks Nigel's leg indicating that it would like more mango. However this causes Nigel to yell which in turn causes the Moa to run into the bushes.
"Oh no we've lost her." The Adzebill now fed up of waiting joins the moa and heads into the shrubbery. "Looks like the party's moved into that bush, which means so must we." Nigel then grabs hold of the camera and goes in to the opening of the bush on all fours.
Back at the Park Sussane has managed to lure the trio of escaped Microceratops back to there enclosure thanks to Bobs cunning pan as well as a little help from resident Microceratops Dexter.
Sussane counted for the second time that all five of the Microceratops where in their enclosure.
"Yep we've got them all back Sussane so now you can tell me what you had come to tell me in the first place." said Bob moving away from the adult female Gilmoreosaurus that approached him.
"Well the thing is Bob we know what's wrong with the Deinosuchus it's just she." Sussane paused looking at the female Gilmoreosaurus. "what's that on her leg?" The Gilmoreosaurus had a large lump on its left leg.
"Oh my giddy aunt." was all Bob could muster up to say.
"Bob this is gonna have to wait I'm going to have to do some blood tests right away, could you go get sarah for me she will have my kit." Bob nodded and left to get Suzanne's assistant vet Sarah.
Whilst Sussane and Bob deal with yet another problem that the park has thrown at them Nigel is trying to catch up with New Zealand's prehistoric wildlife.
The camera's point of view is on the floor of the bush. We see leaves and broken twigs everywhere, the smaller bird can be seen adding fallen sticks to a nest and the surroundings framed by the branches.
"Well this is as far as we will be able to go." said Nigel now on all fours behind the camera. "The Bush Moa must have gone through the bush to the other side but no matter, at this time the Moa population was thriving."
he paused "But as this is a rescue mission I would prefer to save the Moa when they are on their very last legs so I think it's time to go back to Prehistoric Park."
Nigel may be leaving without a Moa but he could never return to Prehistoric Park empty handed.
"Before I leave though it would be rude not to invite our friend to come with us." Nigel reaches into his pocket and removes a handful of meal worms much to the disgust of the crew. "Now if I can lure her back with these." He sprinkles them on the floor and starts to back out of the bush as the Adzebill starts to follow, leaving her nest.
The Adzebill will soon die out unless Nigel can bring one back to the present day.
Now both fully out of the bush Nigel set ups the portal throwing the last of the mealworms through as he activates it. "Go on go through!" yelled Nigel to no prevail "This is our last chance." before he could explain he picked up the remaining piece of mango and held it in font of the Adzebill until it walked through the portal. "Yes! We got her!" he laughed.
But before Nigel can join the parks latest resident in the 21st century he has to have a last minute look in the bush.
Nigel gets back on all fours and enters the bush only to emerge a few seconds later holding delicately a large egg.
"Aha just as I suspected the Adzebill has built a nest complete with a very large egg which must be nearly a third of its size which is extraordinary." Nigel holds the black egg up to the camera. "Let's get this egg back to the park so Bob can put it in his incubator." And with that Nigel disappears into the future.
Alough he isn't returning with a Moa saving the Adzebill from extinction is the next best thing.
The Adzebill can be seen in the holding pen pecking at the remains of the mango. Nigel walks over to one of the parks keepers and hands him the egg to be put straight into the incubator.
The Adzebill will not incubate the egg by herself now that is been disturbed however with help from the parks incubator the chick will be able to join its mother.
Nigel starts to climb the ladder to meet Bob at the platform overlooking the holding area. "Is that it Nige?" Bob mutters. "I thought the Moa could reach the heights of twelve feet but that's just an overgrown goose and its egg, your losing your touch Nige." Nigel chuckles as he pushes himself up from the ladder with help from Bob who had given him a hand pulling him up onto the platform.
"I wanted to go back to a time where New Zealand was untouched by mankind Bob." "the oversized goose is actually a Adezibill that was just a souvenir I just wanted to speak to you about the deinosuchus situation before I go back and save the Moa from the brink of extinction."
Bob pauses. "What deinosuchus situation?" Nigel replicates Bob with a blank face not wanting to break the news, "Oh wow she sure loves mango doesn't she." pointing at the Adzebill who had finished the mango and was now pecking at the wooden fence.
"Mango is a good name don't you think Bob?".
"Thats a lovely name Nigel but I'm not as stupid as you think what deinosuchus situation"? "Erm well Sussane did a scan on the deinosuchus after she was attacking people crossing the bridge?". Bob looks concerned "Yes I do." "well it turns out that after the scan that she is in fact pregnant and must have been when I saved her."
Bob tries to think of something to say. "Oh my so do you want me to expand the enclosure, I mean I doubt it will be too hard to make room for another giant croc or two or heaven forbid three."
Before Nigel can say anything he is saved by the crackling of his radio before suzanne's voice utters. "Hello Nigel are you able to come to my surgery please." "Certainly suzanne I'm on my way." Nigel began walking down the ladder. "Nigel where would you like me to put our Mango?" Asked Bob. "Why not put her in the orchid, that way she can forage through th dead branches and fallen fruit?" "That's easy enough for me." Bob smiles for once he had five minutes to himself.
"By the way Bob, it's around 100 deinosuchus you need to make homes for." A wave of horror crashed over Bobs face, now red with rage. "100". Slipped out of Bob's open mouth."Nigel!" Bobs face is now red with rage. Nigel made a run for his jeep.
Whilst Bob digests Nigel's latest revelation Suzanne is getting to work to deal with the park's latest problem.
Suzannes blonde assistant passes Suzanne tranquilizer darts which she loads into a shotgun as Nigel pulls up outside the Mixed Mongolian species enclosure.
"What we are about to do is take the female Gilimosaurs in to my surgery for an emergency biopsy."
Suzanne aims the gun at the female and pulls the trigger darting the dinosaur.
"As shes a reptile it will take a while to take effect which gives me enough time to speak to Nigel." "Hey suzanne what's happened?"
Nigel says fearful of bad news.
" Hi Nigel the Gilimosaurs has a large lump on her left leg so I'm taking her in for a biopsy."
The Gilmoreosaurus stands on both feet before returning to two.
"Oh dear I was going to return to New Zealand but I will stay till we get the results." says Nigel.
"No need Nigel it will take a few weeks for the results go and get the park a Moa you know it will distract you from worrying." she laughs as she says it " Your right sussane plus Bobs gonna be in one of moods for a bit now he knows about the deinosuchus." Says Nigel as he makes a run for his jeep. Suzanne's face screws up in anger. "Nigel you can't just tell him and leave me to deal with it!"
" see you later." Sussane goes to shout at nigel before seeing the female gilemoresaurs has passed out.
Whilst Nigel goes back to the time where the Moa's where on their last legs Bob places the parks latest resident in her new home.
Bob can be seen guiding two of the parks maintenance teams who are holding a large create to the park's orchard.
The orchard is a paddock the size of a football pitch decorated with parallel rows of different trees that grow different types of fruit ranging from bananas, apples and mangos.
"That's it lads put her down." commands Bob as the create is opened releasing Mango the Adezbil into her new home.
"Well that was easy". Chuckles Bob. "She'll be joined by her chick whenever it hatches in the incubator. Hopefully it will be before the deinosuchus lays all one hundred of hers". Sick nearly comes out of Bobs mouth at the thought.
Now back in prehistoric New zealand its not long before Nigel finds its a much different world than his last visit.
A forest surrounds a flowing stream heading towards a large mountain. The bottom of the stream is filled with smooth amber pebbles. Under the mountain smoke can be seen coming from a small camp settlement. "We've come back to a time where the Moa's are on their last legs thanks to human settlers like the ones who've set up camp over there." says Nigel as he begins to walk along the stream in the opposite direction of the human settlement. "We have come back to around 1597 it's crazy to think if we got a ship to London we could take a moa watch shakespeare debut romeo and juliet." As nigel chuckles walking away from the camp several brown males in tribal clothing can be seen leaving the settlement and heading toward Nigel.
Whilst Nigel ponders whether to take a Moa to meet William shakespeare Sussane prepares for surgery.
The female Gilmoreosaurus is laying flat on a medical bed whilst suzanne's medical team set up the equipment including an IVP drip. "We are about to perform a biopsy." " We are going to remove the lump in order to gain bone tissue which will then determine if the mass is cancerous or not." Sussane cuts pieces of the bone off and places it into a container. Her blonde assistant Sarah takes it off to be tested. "We will get the results back in a few weeks so fingers crossed it's nothing serious." says Suzanne whilst stitching the Gilmoreosaurus back together. " All we can do now is wait."
Back in prehistoric New Zeland Nigel is on the lookout for the last of the Moa.
Bird song fills the air whilst the sound of the stream gently flowing echoes through the valley. Nigel and his crew are half way down the stream completely unaware of the men following them. " there were up to eleven known species of Moa." says Nigel enthusiastically. "The smallest was around the size of a turkey whilst the largest was over two meters high if it reared its neck up which prior to popular belief they didn't." Before Nigel could continue he was interrupted by the sound of a sharp bellowing noise. "What on earth is that?" says a confused Nigel. Across the stream to him an ostrich sized bird covered in freckles red feathers can be seen drinking from the stream. " I don't belive it thats a baby moa!" beams Nigel.
At long last Nigel has found the animal hes been looking for.
Emerging from the shrubs behind the younger moa, a fully grown female makes her presence known making the same bellowing noise that previously alerted Nigel. "Another one! This must be my lucky day!" "If im not mistaken this must be the younger ones mother. Mother Moas must stay with their young for the first few months of their lives." The female is covered in red and orange feathers. Her neck is low to the ground as is her offspring. "This must be Dinorins the largest known species of moa, the name means terrible bird but who on earth would call them that they are truly magnificent."
A family duo of Dinoris would be a welcome addition to prehistoric park but first Nigel will have to get them there.
"Because they have not evolved to fear humans I should be able to get pretty close." Nigel grins as he slowly walks up to the younger moa. As he does the mother raises her neck upwards. "Oh my goodness this is amazing im being dwarfed by a bird." He laughs before continuing "The mother is doing this as she is checking if i'm a danger. Most of the time they keep their heads low to the ground for food." She relaxes, lowering her head to get another drink from the being daring as ever places his hand on the feathers of the bird. "I touched a big bird!" he takes of his hands and grabs the portal polls. "I'm going to set up the time portal so we can take these back to the safety of the park ." The mother bird raises her head as Nigel activates the portal. "She's very suspicious." notices Nigel. Suddenly the younger moa copies its mother raising its neck up high. It begins to chirp nervously. Out of nowhere a spear shoots through the younger moas throat. Before it has time to react another goes through its chest. The mother Moa panics and begins making a high pitch bellow sound to its young. The young Moa tries to respond but is choking on its own blood. "Oh no." cries Nigel who is visibly devastated. "Everyone back through the portal now abort mission!" The crew runs through the portal. The camera man drops the camera in the panic as more spears dart around the camera sits by the stream showing Nigel managing to push the mother moa back to the park before deactivating the portal. The camera then sees the tribesmen from earlier gathering round the terrified dying baby Moa. One of the men raises a large stone above its head, hes about to drop it before the camera unexpectedly cuts out due to the battery dying.
The tragic attack on the moa family that has left the mother childless is unfortunately common in prehistoric New Zealand. Due to their calm and trusting nature the Moa was an easy food source for early human settlers. However thanks to Nigel it isn't all bad news as the mother Moa was rescued in the nick of time from certain death.
The camera turns back on this time showing the lone female moa calling out to her lost offspring in holding pen one. Watching above her is a distraught Nigel. Bob and suzanne can be seen talking to Ben a member of Nigels team about what has happened. They walk over to Nigel. They don't say anything but give him a hug. "Its all my fault if I'd just hurried up with the portal they both would have been safe." said Nigel holding back the tears. "Dont put this on yourself Nige you wasn't to know." said Bob patting nigel's shoulder. "Nigel you managed to save one moa from the same fate. Look at her she's here alive and safe because of you.". Said suzanne. "Why don't you go back and save a male Moa then prehistoric park can have its own moa chicks". Said Bob knowing it would cheer Nigel up. "I guess I owe it to Dinoris to save them from extinction." and with that Nigel smiled walking towards the bungalow.
With Nigel Determined to bring back a male Dinoris from prehistoric New zealand Bob is busy housing the female Dinoris that Nigel has already saved which the parks team have named May.
A truck can be seen unloading May into the original Ornithomimus enclosure. The only difference is a moat now surrounds the pen. A sign can be seen with the words Moa Moat written on it.
"She's been checked over by sussane and she's fit and healthy if not a little stressed from what's happened but hopefully May will settle nicely in this enclosure." says Bob scattering some fruit and seed mix for the Moa. " She's a beautiful looking creature don't get me wrong but her head is so small compared to the rest of her and don't even get me started on her wings there non existent". May started to approach the food.
" I like this side of the park as it nice and peaceful it's away from the carnivores like the trex siblings and the saber tooth pride.
" If Nigel is able to bring our May a fella back then I think she'll enjoy life at the park." He laughs as May pecks at her food.
Determined to bring a mate back to the park for May the Moa Nigel is heading back to Prehistoric new zealand to when the Dinoris was on its last legs.
The portal takes Nigel and his crew through to a mountainous grassland the sky is beginning to go dark. " We've come back to the last days of the moa." "At this point in history humans have settled and brought with them pests such as rats, cats and dogs which have annihilated the unique wildlife here." Nigel walks towards a nest that's been destroyed with the only remnants left being cracked egg shells.
Before humans settled and brought with them pests the only land mammal that inhabited New Zealand were three species of bat. Now thanks to predators like rats nests like this one stand no chance of survival.
"As a bird lover this breaks my heart." before Nigel can continue speaking a sharp shareek echoes through the mountain. "What on earth was that?"
Two large Dinoris run towards Nigel behind them flies a giant eagle with its talons lunging towards them. "Haast's Eagle everyone gets down to the ground now!" screams Nigel. The camera angle drops to the ground showing the large scale feet of the moas as they run past.
The Hasst's eagle was the largest species of eagle to ever grace the skies of the earth. Unique to New zealand they hunted the large Dinoris for dinner.
The Moas run into a clearing surrounded by large boulders. The largest of the two runs behind one of the boulders whilst the other runs straight into it in the panic of the situation. The haast's eagle descends on the smaller moa with its talons and begins ripping off strips of flesh with its sharp beak.
Nigel and his team walk behind the boulder allowing them to watch the eagle feast on its kill.
"That was absolutely extraordinary the fact an eagle could take down a moa is mind bending." They watch as the bird eats its prey. " It uses those gigantic talons to hold on to its prey so it can tear strips off with its beak, When the moa became extinct the eagle didn't have enough prey to hunt so it too went extinct." The giant eagle stares at the crew for a second before returning to feed. "I would love to bring this one back to the park with us but unfortunately we haven't preplanned the correct equipment as it would just fly off.""this truly is an amazing sight to watch but the other moa shouldn't be far from here so lets track it down before it gets dark." The crew walks in the direction of the moa leaving behind the giant eagle to enjoy its feast.
For now Nigel is going to let the Hasst's Eagle enjoy its meal.
The large moa can be seen walking through the rocky grassland. "There its it!" says Nigel looking through his binoculars. "That's the other moa from earlier. Judging from the size and the bluish feathers I'd say its a male which is perfect for us!" The moa raises its head. Alert it searches for danger. "Its spooked maybe by us but we are too far away." before Nigel can continue a chanting tribe of maori come running down one side of the mountain. They carry large spears in their hands.
"Oh no, not again" Nigel and his crew run down towards the Moa in the opposite direction of the Maori tribesmen.
If Nigel wants to save the male Dinornis hes going to have to think fast.
"Stop , Stop what you're doing!" screams Nigel and his team, waving their hands at the tribesmen. "It's no use they don't understand what we're saying we need to get the portal set up now guys!" Danny a member of Nigels team places the portal near the male moa who is frozen in fear. He then activates the portal which flashes into life providing the area with a bright light. The tribe stop running instead two walk towards the team with spears. The other men ran back in fear terrified of what they had just witnessed . " I think we scared the others off but these two aren't afraid of us so we need to get the moa through the portal now!" The two men begin to speak in their language before throwing there spear through the portal.
Back at the park the arrows miss Bob by two inches. "By ech what on earth?"
"Guys go back through the portal its to dangerous here." orders Nigel. He walks towards the two men who begin to throw stones at both Nigel and the moa in the absence of their spears. "Oww stop it". Nigel covers his head as rocks fly of him. One of the stones hits the moas legs causing it to below in pain. A high pitched screech causes the large bird to abruptly dart through the portal. "Yes!" beams Nigel. It's not long before Nigel works out what caused the moa to leave as the sky fills louder with the familiar high pitched screech of the Hasset's eagle who's talons loom over the heads of the two hunters. Nigel turns his head away just in time to miss the eagle puncher the men's skulls. Nigel quickly procedes the moa feeling sick at what he'd just witnessed.
Thanks to one of the moa's most feared predators the hunters have become the hunted and the park is now home to a mating pair of Dinornis.
Nigel, and Sussane watch as the male moa is released into Moa Moat. May walks up to him, curious then continues to graze the male follows suit. "Well they seem to be ok together, now all we have to do Sussane is think of a name for him any ideas?" asks Nigel. "Hmmm why not Jock because those orange and blue feathers look a bit like tartan?" responds sussane.
" aha Jock and May I like the sound of that. Do you know what the surprise is that Bobs bringing over?" A jeep pulls up just as sussane responds to Nigel's question by shrugging her shoulders. Bob gets out of the jeep and walks to the back door. "Hello everyone I'd like you to meet our newest resident." Both suzanne and Nigel look confused. Bob opens the back door. "Come on come out don't be shy." After a few minutes a small yellow featured bird comes out it looks like a younger version of the bush Moa Nigel saw when he first went to prehistoric New Zealand. " Meet the inhabitant of the egg you rescued Nigel". The mini Moa walks up to Nigel and pecks at his shoe. " Oh my the Bush Moa must have done a Cuckoo and laid its egg in the Adezbills nest so it would care and raise for it." The Mini Moa walks through the gap in the fence and over toward the adult Moas and grazes with them. "That's a first an animal here that houses itself." Chuckles Bob. " Let's just hope the 150 dinosuchus do the same, bye boys" laughs Sussane as she walks off to check on the Gilliomasaurs. Bobs face dropped again. Nigel patted him on the shoulder then walked in the direction of Sussane leaving Bob looking onto the grazing flock of Moas fearing for the future.
With one egg successfully hatched Bob only has over one hundred more to go before he can take a break.
