Hi! This is my first post to the Miraculous section! I normally write for other fandoms, but I found this little piece I wrote in my notebook sometime ago after watching "Ephemeral," but I don't remember how long it's been in there since I forgot to date my writing. I just know when I rewrote this and typed this up, the earliest save date was back in February of this year. So, here you go! It's messy, it probably doesn't make sense, but here you go!
Title: A Life-Changing Wish
Type: One Shot - Ramblings
Summary: Kwami said, "Oh no! Not that! Not again! It's the end of the world!" in the episode Ephemeral. What did they mean by "again?" This is how I think it happened.
Idea: A World where Felix and Bridgette existed.
Sub-Ideas: The alternate world in the animated opening with that fancy Chat Noir who is Felix and the girl who looks similar to the later Marinette.
Date: May 14, 2022
-.
.
Quotes: (Season 4 Episode 19 "Ephemeral")
All Kwamis: Oh no! Not that! Not again! It's the end of the world!
Sass: Shadow Moth must have taken control of Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculous. And he made a wish.
Sass: Imagine the world as your school notebook. Everything inside is written in blue, but now you want it to be red instead. Before you can rewrite anything in the color you like, you have to erase everything that's already written in blue.

Ramblings:
They say that every story told by word of mouth has some grains of truth left behind. A story about fantastical superheroes and the ultimate sacrifice, then the heroes win out in the end… Only one of these things don't belong. In this story, the heroes sacrifice was their loss and win. In this story, the world was changed. In this world, the villain had no direct part in its change. Two heroes, Ladybug and Chat Noir, made the ultimate sacrifice for the world, or rather, of the world they once knew.
Long ago, the Miraculous were scorned, their powers were both a gift and the bane of the user's experience. An entrusted warrior could only tolerate their powers for so long. So, the order was created, they gathered the creatures called kwami who granted these powers and bound them to their items. They sealed them up in boxes. They would only grant their powers when the world needed it most. Then time passed. Their powers weren't needed as much as before. Times had changed, people created powers of their own, both the beautiful and the destructive. But one foolish child changed all that, a child who took the powers too lightly. So the many miraculous were lost. The only survivor, a boy and the first box were saved from the fires.
Centuries later, their powers returned but the users were corrupt by its design. The consequence of using it too long, driven to corruption. The two exceptions to this rule, the Ladybug and Cat miraculous, their powers could be tolerated by those who were truly worthy of its powers.
But... only one found favor with the powers of the miraculous, the ladybug holder. The chosen for the chat, whoever it is who hasn't found favor, their punishment is not the chaotic energy corruption of the mind, but the destruction that follows in their wake. Furthermore, their powers will remain for a decade in their possession and with no way to remove its item, a ring. In this world, there aren't any ladybug to repair the damages. They must face the consequences of the destruction head on.
A kind pure girl, Bridgette, was the chosen of the Ladybug Power. A secluded pompous boy, Felix, was the holder of the Cat. Even before, his life was led in destruction. A negligent father, the loss of his mother, and no friends to turn to who wouldn't seek to take advantage of him or use him as a stepping stone to his father, all these and more were the burdens he shouldered.
The girl, she was a simple baker girl with a simple crush on the boy who shielded his emotions in favor of a mask. She cared not for his family status, she cared not for their wealth, she cared for the true person underneath that was scorned by the school and placed under scrutiny of their classmates. In those accidental moments when they found themeless together, his true nature would shine through. Unapproachable, almost pompous, but deep down in his own standoffish way, he showed his kindness and care.
...
It was the end of the world as Felix undid his transformation and Bridgette did the same. The true villain didn't win, the destructive force that followed the cat had. Seeing the world, and their beloved home in the state it was in, they decided to make the ultimately difficult choice. They made a wish, a wish for a better world, for a friendlier world.
As every story about wishes go, there is always a price.
The price was their existence and humanity.
In the new world, Felix existed, but not as he should. Instead, he was replaced by a doppelgänger who was now under the harshness of his former father's rule. Everything within felt a sense of wrongness and left in his heart an undefinable void.
In the new world, Bridgette no longer existed. Instead, her family had a different daughter who filled in her place. The couple would never know who was once there, but her name would remain on the tip of their tongue, waiting to slip out and be remembered. But that name would never leave their lips, remaining locked forever in the forgotten crevices of their memories.
The Kwami, when they became aware, knew the wish had been made. They knew the world had been changed, that some form of loss took place, but they would never know what truly happened. They would never understand that the world they so cherished, the people who once inhabited it, how many treasured memories would never be recovered. They would never remember the sacrifice of the previous world for the betterment of the newly written reality, their lives, and everyone around them.
They would never truly know.

Other Notes:
I found what the Kwami said about the Ladybug and Chat miraculous quite interesting. They say, "Oh no! Not again! It's the end of the world!" But what does that mean exactly? Did this happen before with an attempt to make a wish OR… My thoughts are Kwamis are aware of what happened, that there was a change because of the wishes, but depending on what changed, and how drastic, they wouldn't ever fully know. They just know it's happened before. They understand that things won't be as the reality they currently reside in. But when a wish is successfully made, I don't even think the Kwamis know what changed, just that things changed. That's what happens when you make a wish. The universe is destroyed and then entirely rebuilt! But who knows how?
*Update - Forgot To Add This To The Notes: No one actually remembers, but lingering memories do come up every now and again. The most accurate depiction of the other reality comes from the the animated movies that got released, the ones that look like the PV. Probably that's the closest they'll get to knowing what life was like before. Though, the kwamii don't know that, but something does send waves of nostalgia when Marinette lets the them watch those movies. They're not sure entirely sure why.
So here's the idea for the story. In another reality, there were Ladybug and Chat Noir. In another reality, their last holders were Bridgette and Felix. The ones who we know of in the original PV. Their reality was much harsher than the children's show we've come to know. Something must have happened in this reality, one that forced them to make a wish. This wish was for that their home and the existence of the heroes to be a wonderful thing, something beneficial, something good. The price? Their existence. Bridgette ceased to exist while Felix, was no longer a human, but a sentimosnter. Assuming he is one anyway. Gotta wait for the next season to be absolutely sure, right?

That's all I got, I'm sorry if it didn't make any sense. I wrote this some time ago and all. I hope you enjoyed, thanks for reading!
