A blur exits the house on the Kent farm. It enters Smallville passes a group of kids standing outside a house, and as soon as they feel the wind push everything to the side they scream, "CLARK!"
The blur returns and then stops. Where the blur ended is now a young man in his early twenties. "Is your frisbee stuck on the roof again?" Asked Clark.
"Ya," one of the boys says.
Clark flies up to the roof of the house and grabs a frisbee then flies back down to the ground and hands the frisbee to them. "You guys need to be more careful, you know today's my last day here," Clark told them.
"Can't we just scream your name like we always do?" One of the girls asked.
"My hearing may be good, but even I can't hear halfway across the country," Clark told her.
Everyone in Smallville knows about both that Clark has superpowers and that he's an alien from a dead planet. After all, when he first started developing his powers they were kind of hard to hide. How are you supposed to hide the fact that sometimes you actendly start hoovering over the ground, shoot lasers out of your eyes when you get a bit angry and that you broke your school's water fountain by having a strong grip. But they all choose to keep his powers and real birth story a secret from anyone out of town. And now Clark is moving out of Smallville and going to Metropolis to become a journalist, and because he thinks protecting a big city from crime could be one of the best uses of his powers.
Later, just after sunset Clark was in the back seat of his parents' pickup. "I told you guys, I don't need a goodbye party," Clark told Ma and Pa.
"We don't know what your talking about, we're just going to Smallville to get some dinner," Pa replied.
"Everyone remembers that I have super hearing right?" Clark asked, trying to figure out how everyone in Smallville thought that they would be able to keep it a secret.
"Can you at least try to act surprised?" Ma begged, "Everyone went through a lot of effort for this."
Just as Ma said that they drove past a banner that said "Goodbye Clark!" in big bold letters. The pick up parked and Clark got out with a shocked expression on his face.
"You guys did all this for me?!" Clark said, doing his best to pretend to be surprised.
"Told you he'd know!" One of the residents shouted.
"How could we not!" Mayor Smith cheered. "For the past five years you have done nothing but help the people of Smallville, in both big and small ways. So please grab a seat and enjoy your farewell party."
The party was massive, it took up the entirety of the one street that starts at the beginning of town and ends at town hall. A stage was set up in front of town hall with a microphone on it. The Kents all sat at an empty table in front of the stage. It seemed as if everyone in town was there. Throughout the night people would go up on stage and talk about how Clark helped them in some way, from as small as getting their cat down from a tree to as big as saving the gas station from exploiting last year. People would also regularly go up to him and tell Clark how much they'll miss him. By the end of the night Clark had to hold back tries releasing just how much everyone here cared about him.
Then at one in the morning just as the party was finally starting to die down Mayor Smith went on stage for the fourth time that night and said, "Ok but before this party ends, I think we need to hear something from the man of the hour!"
Everyone cheered at that, but Clark's face started to burn. Pa's hand started to push Clark off the chair, but he just firmed his grip on it. It took the chanting of the entire town to get him to go up.
Clark took the mic from Mayor Smith's hand and told the town, "Wow, I... I had no idea you all cared about me so much. It... it just feels impossible to have one person be so important to so many people." Clark was going to keep going but was unable to hold back the tries he had been keeping in the whole night and started to break down on stage. "Thank... thank yo-you."
The next morning Clark was saying goodbye to Ma and Pa Kent. "Goodbye, I'll be back every chance I get to see you guys," he told them.
"And before you go," Ma said, heading back to the house. When she came back she had a wrapped box with her. And handed it to Clark.
When Clark opened it he saw a big red S. He took it out of the box and saw that it was a bright blue suit with the S on the chest, a red cape with the same S, and still inside the box were two red boots, a pair of red trunks with a yellow belt Clarked assumed were meant to keep the trunks up.
"When you said that you wanted to use your powers to help people, I thought you would need a costume to go with it," Ma said.
Clark put the suit back in the box and hugged them both. Once he pulled out Pa took his glasses off and put them over Clark's eyes. "You'll probably need a secret identity too," Pa told him.
"Do you really think a pair of glasses is going to fool anyone?" Clark asked. "Just try it before criticizing, will ya," Pa said sarcastically.
