I woke up in the middle of the night. I perked my ears up and realised that Yakko woke me up with his coughing.
Sigh, not a good sign.
Then I just went back to sleep. But I couldn't. That coughing was worrying me. After an hour or so, I finaly managed to fall back asleep.
...
"Wakko...Wak, wake up...".
I opened my eyes and saw..."Yakko!" "Shh, easy there, you'll wake up Dot!", he whispered. "Oh, sorry", I said, "I'm just so glad you're up...", I smiled. "Yeah, me too", he smiled back, "It doesn't hurt me anymore, but...cough". "Um, Yakko, you're shaking...", I pointed out with a worried expression. "Well, yeah, about that...cough, I feel kinda...sigh, sick".
My eyes widened and my jaw dropped. I wanted to say something, but Yakko covered my mouth with his hand as he spoke in a gentle voice, "Hey, it'll be fine...". Then he took my hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. "Can you come with me to the living room?", he asked.
"Of course Yak. Have you eaten anything yet? What's the time anyway?", I asked.
Yakko looked at the alarm clock. "It's eight", he said. I got up and we went down the ladder. "And I'm not hungry...", he said. That made me worried. "At least a cup of tea, maybe? Please? For me?", I asked. Yakko sighed, "Ok Wakko, I'll do it. It'll help me anyway". I smiled. It made me feel a little better. "But first I have to check my temperature, ok? You don't have to wait for me tough", he said. "Sure thing Yak", I said with a smile and Yakko smiled back.
When we came to the living room, Yakko went straight to the couch to check his temperature and I made myself breakfast. I quickly ate it and started making tea for Yakko. After five minutes, he spoke up, "Wakko...". I looked at him and we matched the expressions on our faces. Worry.
"I have a fever...", he said. "No wonder...", I said, 'Here's your tea", I placed the tea on a little table in front of the couch. "I'm going to get you a blanket, ok?" "Wait, I'm going to call Hello Nurse!", he said and I stood there.
I watched as Yakko went to the telephone, coughing and shaking. As he dialed the number, I listened on to the conversation. "Hellooo nurse! ... Yes, it stopped, but, cough, now I'm sick, as you may hear ... Well, I'm just coughing and I have a fever ... Ok ... Ok, I'll do it, thanks, bye!", he hung up and sat on the couch. "Can I get you a blanket now?", I asked. "Sure thing sib", said Yakko and took a sip of his tea.
When I returned, I gave him the blanket and sat next to him. "So, what did she say?", I asked.
"Well, she's glad I'm up and she said that I should rest, but that I can get up if I need to. She also said hi to you and Dot", said Yakko.
"Aww, thanks", I smiled.
After he finished his tea, Yakko layed down on the couch. Just then Dot came in. "Morning guys-Yakko!", she ran to him and hugged him. He hugged back. "Oh, I'm so glad you're up!", she said. "Hey, me too", said Yakko. But then Dot stepped back. "Wait a minute, what happened now?!" she asked. Yakko sighed. "Dot...I'm, cough, sick..."
Dot's eyes widened and she ran to our room.
"Uh oh", I said and slowly went after her. When I came there, I slowly opened the door and saw Dot curled up on the bottom bunk, trying her best not to break down. I set next to her and hugged her.
"It's ok, he'll be fine...", I said. She spoke up, clearly trying to keep her voice from quivering.
"Are you sure...?"
I sighed. "Well...not really, but I still have hope".
Dot smiled. "I know, you always do. Thanks Wak, love ya". "Love you too sis", I smiled back.
"Can we go back now?", she asked. "Of course", I said, "You want something to eat?" "Nah, not hungry...", she said. I sighed, "Well, since you're not sick and since toons can't starve to death, you don't have to".
We came back to the living room. "I hear someone's worried about me, huh?", asked Yakko. He was now sitting on the couch, covred with a blanket. "Yes, Yakko, how can't I? And by the way, you broke our apetites, you...sigh, never mind. For real now, boys go fig!", said Dot. Yakko chuckled. "Aww, sorry! Come here you two!".
We sat on the couch and hugged.
"Hello Nurse said hi", said Yakko. "Thanks. You called her?", asked Dot. "Yeah" "What did she say?" "Well, she's glad I'm up and she told me to just rest, but I can get up if I need to" "That's good", Dot smiled.
"Yakko?", I asked. "Yes?" "It's kinda weird how people always have Disney moments when they're sick", I pointed out. He chuckled. "Wakko, people have families, you know that. And people are not as zany as us toons. But we're a family, too. And when someone's sick, or when something else happens, whether it's good or bad, we always need a hug sometimes. That's what families do, right?" "Yeah", I said and hugged him a little tigher. Dot did the same.
"Love ya sibs", said Yakko. "Love you too Yak", me and Dot said at the same time.
The rest of the day went with no events. We took care of eachother as we always have. Me and Dot helped Yakko, and he conforted us if we were sad or worried. He was right, that's what families do.
In the evening, we were watching tv when we heard some noises coming from outside. "I'm going to see what's going on down there, yiu two stay here, ok?", I said. "Sure thing sib", Yakko smiled. I went to the door and opened it. I went to the edge and looked down. There were some guys who seemed to be bad behaved. I immidiately guessed who they were. Toonists.
"What do you want?", I deadpanned.
"Oh, there you are kid!", one said. "Get down here right now or else!", the other shouted. "Shut up you idiot! He's just-", but I didn't listen anymore. I just dropped an anvil on them went indide.
I closed and locked the door. "Who was that?", asked Dot as I sat on the couch. I sighed. "Toonists".
She let out a quiet scuff. "Jerks", she said.
"Don't worry, I locked the door", I said.
"Well sibs, I guess we should go to bed then, huh?", said Yakko. "Good idea Yak! That way we can ignore them. I mean, I did drop an anvil on them", we laughed, "but who knows what can happen" "You have a point Wak" , said Yakko with a smile.
...
As I was laying on the top bunk and staring at the ceiling, Dot climbed up the ladder and popped her head up. "Wakko..." "Huh?", I turned my gaze towards her. "Um...can I come there...?". I smiled. "Sure sis"
As she climbed in, we hugged and she buried her face in my chest. "Night Wak", she said.
"Night Dot", I said and we fell asleep.
