Frustrated

"Oh my God, why is this so hard this morning?" Jane asked no one in particular. She was sitting at her desk trying to figure this out. She had been working on this all morning. Frost and Korsak were just watching a frustrated Jane. After about fifteen minutes of her loud ramblings, Frost got brave and sent a text to Maura.

Frost: Your wife is frustrated, you might want to come and help her out, she is driving us crazy.

Maura: I will be up in a few minutes.

Frost: Thank you, we will owe you big time.

Jane continued to be frustrated and didn't even notice when Maura entered the bullpen. She almost always noticed when Maura entered the bullpen, with her high heeled shoes making a unique sound on the wood floor. Not to mention she greeted Frost and Korsak. Jane didn't notice, she was so wrapped up in what she was doing. Maura understood immediately why Frost had sent her a text.

Maura could tell she was frustrated, she just didn't know why. Jane was loud. Since Maura walked in, she overheard Jane say several statements, "crap, no that can't be" and "oh, you think your so smart" and "you are not going to get me, not today, today I'm going to beat you, you are going down you mother fudger."

It was almost lunchtime, so Maura had her coat and purse. Korsak asked, "where are you ladies going to lunch today?"

Maura thought about it for a minute, and figured she better take Jane for burgers today if she was this frustrated. "With this amount of frustration, I think I will take her to the Shake Shack, do you two want something?"

"Sure," Frost answered, "I would love a bacon cheeseburger, fries and a strawberry shake." He reached in his pocket to give her some money when she shrugged him off.

"I will get it, for you having to put up with this rambling, she still hasn't even noticed I am here, so I know she is frustrated." Maura said as she glanced at her wife who was still rambling in frustration.

Korsak replied, "Ditto to Frost's order." Maura smiled at him and put her hand up when he offered his money.

"No, Vince, I got this. Let me see if I can get my wife up and out of here and maybe figure out what is frustrating her." Maura walked over so she was standing next to Jane's desk. She glanced down and said, "Really Jane, you should have gotten that before you got that far."

"Hey Maur, and really, I suppose you got it on your first try, smarty pants!" Jane said as she flung her left hand up in the air, over exaggerating her response.

"No, on the second and based on your second guess you should have gotten it on your third."

"Well apparently, today is not going my way." Jane replied in a very sarcastic tone.

"I would say so." Maura stated as she smiled at Jane.

Frost and Korsak were wondering what the heck was going on. Jane had stopped rambling which was good. They had no idea what this was all about. Maura grabbed the failing left hand and said, "let's go to lunch, we can go to the Shake Shack."

Jane's eyes lit up, "really, you never let me eat there. I have had a crappy morning, it has been so frustrating."

"Really Jane, lets go" Maura waved goodbye to Frost and Korsak as she dragged Jane out of the precinct.

Jane was looking at her phone while eating her lunch. "Jane, you know you shouldn't have your phone out while we are eating."

"I know Maur, I just wanted to think about this a little bit more. I promise I am just looking." Her voice was calm and Maura appreciated that. She didn't want Jane getting frustrated at the burger joint.

As Jane slurped the last of her shake, signaling that she was now finished with her lunch, she figured out the source of her frustration. It was as if her bacon cheeseburger, fries, and chocolate shake had made her think clearly. She typed in a few letters and pushed enter on her phone's keyboard and just smiled, today was a great day after all. Her Wordle win streak was still intact. She went 6 out of 6 today but she won and that is what was important to her.

She picked up the guy's to-go order and they went back to the precinct. Jane was all smiles when she handed Frost and Korsak their lunch. She was actually humming. They just looked at each other wondering what the hell was going on.

It wasn't until quitting time that they found out all that frustration was over an online word game and that Jane was frustrated because there was a possibility that she was going to break her perfect record. They both just sighed out loud and shook their heads. They were thankful that Maura could help them out, they owed her bigtime.
