Here's the last chapter. At least for now. I might come back to this eventually, depending on if I get inspiration. Either way, thank you for reading this. I also plan on writing stories like this for other minorities I'm in, such as bisexual or adopted. But I'm not sure when those might come out.

Just a note: I am not a lawyer or anything like that. I'm a biomedical engineering PhD student. Any law stuff has been gleamed from a 15 second Google search. So, take it all with a grain of salt.

Wayne Family to Donate to Anti-Racism Groups
By Kara Danvers

This morning, the Wayne family announced that every member of the family will be donating to multiple anti-racism groups, specifically those that help pay for the court fees a wronged party may face. While the Waynes did not announce what amount each family member was contributing, the total amount was totaled to be $500 million.

The joint donation is coming in the wake of Cassandra Cain-Wayne, the only daughter of the Wayne family, being attacked by two men last month. The two men responsible were charged with several crimes, most notably assault and battery of both Miss Cain-Wayne and her brother, Dick Grayson-Wayne, who sustained injuries when removing her from harm. Both men are currently in jail, each with a $100,000 bail.

Unfortunately, the attack on Miss Cain-Wayne is not an isolated occurrence. Since the attack on the Wayne heiress alone, an additional 113 incidents of attacks on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) have been reported. Tens of thousands of such instances have been reported since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many blame these numbers on the fact that some incorrectly place unfounded blame for the pandemic on the Chinese people. And since these same people are unable to tell the different races of AAPI apart, they target anyone who looks so.

The World Health Organization warns against naming diseases, illnesses, and disorders for any geological location for this exact reason. Despite this, political figures continue to do so while also blaming other countries for the lack of a proper response to COVID-19 in The United States. The attacks on Miss Cain-Wayne and so many others is a direct result of these actions. Thankfully, there are many organizations that work to combat violence against AAPI.

Trail of Cain-Wayne vs Hanson and Smith to Begin Next Week
By Iris West-Allen

Four months ago, Cassandra Cain-Wayne was verbally and physically attacked by two men, both ten years older than her. Since then, the case against her assailants has been closely covered across the country. Now, the trial is to begin this upcoming Monday at Gotham City Municipal Court. The Wayne family will be represented by two of the lawyers kept on retainer at Wayne Enterprises, Ms. Alicia Benthy and Mr. Daniel Martin. Originally, a court-appointed lawyer was assigned to defend Blake Hanson and Frank Smith. However, family members of the defendants started a crowdfunding campaign and raised enough money to hire defense lawyer Mr. Howard Pelant. As of the court hearing last month, both men are pleading not guilty on all charges.

The main evidence in the trial is video footage taken by witnesses at the time of the attack. Additionally, several witnesses have given statements and some may take the stand during the trial. The witness list has not yet been released, so it is unclear how many if any of those there that day will speak. The prosecution also plans on using the medical records of both Cassandra Cain-Wayne and Dick Grayson-Wayne to show the injuries the siblings received. It is unclear what evidence the defense will be bringing to trial.

If convicted, Hanson and Smith face up to 10 years of jail time and a fine up to $150,000 for each count. Their additional charges could see them spending up to additional 6 years in jail and up to $16,000 in additional fines.

Breaking News: Hanson and Smith Found Guilty on All Charges

Photo: the Wayne family at the moment the verdict was read. Cass is on the side of the plaintiff. Her father, siblings, and sister-in-law are behind her in the first row of public seating. Relief and joy is apparent on all their faces. The lead Wayne lawyer is in the corner of the photo next to Cass. Her expression is mostly neutral, though also happy. Behind the Waynes you can see two red-headed men, a blonde girl, a girl with blue hair, and two dark-haired boys who look a lot alike. Their faces are blurry, but they also appear to be overjoyed.

Caption: Cassandra Cain-Wayne was supported by her father and siblings during court. All of them took time off of work or school to attend. Several friends of the Wayne family also came to show support on the final day of the trial.

Photo: Two white men in their early 30's, both wearing prison jumpsuits, sit side by side. They are both angry and are glaring at where the Waynes would be. Their lawyer almost seems happy that his case was lost. The look he gives the Waynes is almost apologetic.

Caption: Hanson and Smith when the verdict was read. They tried to vocally protest the verdict, and the honorable Paula Samuels had to have them removed from the courtroom.

Just a few hours ago, a grand jury ruled that Blake Hanson, 33, and Frank Smith, 32, were guilty on multiple charges, including assault and battery, harassment, destruction of property, and resisting arrest. In total, they each received a jail sentence of 13 years and $160,000 in fines. Additionally, they will be forced to go through court-ordered counseling to try and determine what caused the men's racial bias against Miss Cain-Wayne.

A second trial will be held next week, in which Hanson and Smith will be charged with the assault and battery of Cassandra's older brother, Dick Grayson-Wayne. Rather than being in front of a grand jury, this will be a bench trial, in which the judge will be the sole decider of the verdict.

Today, the verdict comes at the end of a two-week long trial, during which the defense's case was mostly supported through character assessments and technicality claims. The prosecution, on the other hand, had hard evidence in the form of cell phone and security camera video, as well as witness statements, character assessments, and medical records. In total, the prosecution had over 75 pieces of evidence, while the defense had 23.

This trial is one that has been anticipated for four months. While both sides were compiling evidence and building their cases, social media was going wild. As the support for Cassandra Cain-Wayne grew, people were divided. Some claimed a criminal trial was an overreaction of the event. Some claimed that Hanson and Smith acted in self-defense, and that their actions were perfectly justified. Some even said that Miss Cain-Wayne somehow deserved her injuries, many implying that they would have done worse.

While unclear today, the effects of this verdict have the potential to be far reaching and long lasting. With racial tensions on the rise, and several factors being the cause, it is more important now than ever that we stand together as a nation to combat hate and violence. Miss Cain-Wayne may have received justice today, but so many others never even got their stories heard. And I'd like to personally help to rectify that.

The only way we will stop prejudice is if we all work together. I know that as a straight white man I don't really have any personal experience to share. But I want to give a voice to those who need one.

As a father, as a friend of the Wayne family, and as a reporter, I'm extending a hand to everyone whose story was never heard. I'd like you to reach out to me in whatever way you want, be it through social media, email, or even a physical letter to this newspaper. Tell me your story, and I will put it into an anthology. Everything will be completely anonymous unless you explicitly say you don't want it to be. While I cannot promise any form of legal action, people will hear your story. People will know what you have been through.

We are a long way from a truly equal world, but nothing will change unless we all do our part. Educate yourself, help raise awareness, donate to organizations that are helping fight legal battles. Every little bit helps.

In Dick's trial, they get an additional 5 years and $90,000 fine. I feel that Dick would want his trial against them to be separate from Cass's in order to put more emphasis on the racism and ableism that was involved.
