Chapter 8
As I stood in the bathroom that night I waited for the vision to happen again. Nothing happened. I went back to bed and still nothing happened. If the vision was a warning, or if it was trying to tell me something I couldn't figure out what. My visions were normally very clear, and accurate to some extent. This was like nonsense or a garbled radio frequency. The sounds were loud and the pictures didn't add up. The next afternoon I sat in the shade, on the edge of the creek in my swim trunks. I just watched my dad and my sisters splash around from the bank. Mom wearing her bathing suit and a pair of shorts covering her bottom sat next to me in the warm grass.
"Hey..." She hummed softly.
"Hey."
"Whatcha doin way over here?"
"Just thinking."
"About what?"
"Nothing."
"Bry...you know that's not true. Now come on."
She gently nudged my shoulder.
"That vision I had...it doesn't make sense...and it happens here...if I get in the water."
I then described what I saw in great detail, even the awful smells I could smell. I told her how real it felt.
"Maybe...maybe I should look into your mind huh? Figure out what's going on?"
"Okay."
We turned to face each other. Mom lifted her hands and touched my temples. There was a flash and I saw the water. Only it wasn't me this time, it was Anna. Mom and I gasped at the same time. She then let go of my head.
"Anna..." I mumbled softly. The moment I said her name we heard her scream. We looked up and saw our family swimming frantically over to her as she went under.
"Anna!" Mira cried out.
Dad held his breath and went under the water. He came back up gasping, before going under again. Mom didn't stop to take off her shorts. She dove right in an attempted to help Dad. I closed my eyes trying to use my mind link with Anna, but it was as if she just vanished. Dad came up again gasping for air.
"Charlie! Did you find her?!"
"No...the further you go down it's too dark for you to see." He breathed, and water dripped from his bangs.
"Anna! Anna!" Isa screamed in panic. She then went under to look for Anna. I waded near the bank and stepped off into the deeper end. Mom and Dad both came up again coughing. Isa did not.
"Where's Isa?!" I screamed. We all did a double take. She and Anna were completely gone.
"Oh my God!" Mira hollared out. She began to cry.
"Stop don't panic...Har you keeping looking for Anna around here with Mira...Bry get over her and help me find Isa...with a baby on the way she can't swim too good...and we're wasting precious time talking about it!" Dad shouted.
My family were strong swimmers. The water didn't even ripple in the areas at which my sisters disappeared. It was as if they were here one mintue and gone the next. If my vision was true, something got them both and pulled them down below. At least in that moment is what my mind believed. I dove under making waves above me. The creek was rocky and murky; but it was also deep and dark. My eyes began to sting and I closely watched the sun cascading on the water above. I didn't see Anna or Isa. When Mom, Dad, and I all came up for air, Mira was now gone!
"Charlie!"
My mom swam over to us and grabbed Dad's arm.
"Calm down babe...if they aren't here we have to assume a current or something pulled them upstream."
Mom nodded, but began to cry.
"Anna!" Dad called.
"Isa!" Mom shouted after.
"Mira! Can you hear us!" Dad screamed.
As they shouted I felt as if a strong force was pulling me down. I almost had to obey it. I took a deep breath and entered the water again. As I went under I felt as if I were falling instead of swimming. It was like my vision from before. It pulled me down into a dark abyss. I reached my hand out. I wasn't sure if I was trying to reach the water's surface or try to pull back against the gravitational pull. There was a flash of black, and then a flash of a solid white brick wall. I threw my hands up, and stopped myself before I hit it. I then turned. I was in a jail cell of some kind. A very ancient looking one. There was a small glass window high out of my reach. Though it was large enough to see out of. From there I could see that the sky was a purple ombre and the moon was out and pink! Whereas the sky was normal and sunny back in the creek I just left from. The creek was a portal. A portal to another world! My sisters were here someplace. They question is why? And where?
I looked around. My cell was empty. Water still trickled down my fringe. My trunks were still wet. It was then I smelled that disgusting smell I smelt before in my vision. A large dinosaur like creature walked by my cell. He had hair all over his body and his head resembled that of an alligator that walked upright. He was wearing a tunic and had several swords attached by leather belts to his body. He was clearly alien.
"Hey! Hey excuse me!"
He turned and snarled.
"And what do you want human slime?" He asked in a low-pitched voice.
"I...I want to speak to whoever is in charge."
"No one sees The Primordial Kayors without a win."
"A win?"
"Yeah...oh I forgot you're one of the four new ones. You and the others will probably see them by daylight."
"Four? So you know where three human girls are?"
"Sure...I'm Goban Gebrn. I'm a Nelain. We Nelain were a proud and fierce race until our planet's sun burned out. Most of us died. The Primordial Kayors found me and took me in. I'm in charge of all the cells and everything that goes on in these here quarters."
"And the smell?"
"Hey now that's not very nice!"
"You called me human slime earlier!"
"Well I don't know your name, what should I call you? All you humans look alike to me."
"Bryan."
"I like human slime better."
"At least I don't smell like a toilet!"
He put his snout to the bars and hissed.
"I take pride in my musk boy we Nelains drink from the same pools we defecate into. It provides us with the strength we need to fight our enemies."
I gagged a little bit.
"Good for you." I held my nose and moved away from him.
"Now the Earth girls you spoke of...yes they are here...you will see your kind again by morning."
"I better."
Goban left me alone. I paced the floor and even tried to use my powers in my cell, but I couldn't. I don't think anyone could. Later I fell asleep on the cold hard floor. I was still in my swim trunks which made me feel even colder. My cell then opened up. The stench was strong.
"The Kayors wish you heat and comfort. Put these on, and have this."
It was Goban. He threw some clothes and a blanket my way. He then left my cell again without another word. The clothes were actually my size. The shirt was like a large poet shirt. It was a loose-fitting blouse with full bishop sleeves, that buttoned down the front. It was a dried out lilac color. I was also given a light tight fitted vest. It was a tad darker than the shirt, and it also buttoned down the front. I had light brown ankle banded cuffed trousers, a brown belt and black boots. I tucked my shirt into my pants and my pants into my boots. It was as if the whole outfit was made for me. I put the blanket on top of me and slept a little better. Though it helped with the bitter cold, it didn't help my nerves.
