Chapter 9
The gradient of a bright pink hue illuminated my cell. It was daylight and the sky was a very bright shade of light purple. I folded the blanket I had and awaited Goban.
"Bryan." His low voice spoke out. He opened my cell and I was finally released from those four damp white walls.
"This way."
"Where are my sisters?"
He didn't answer. Instead he led me up a winding staircase. I was in a castle. I'm not sure how large the castle was, as this was the only part of the castle I could see.
"This is as far as I go, unless I'm summoned by The Kayors. Follow the carpet up, three doors down from the left you will find your kind waiting."
He then travelled back down the staircase. Good thing too. The smell went with him. It was true that all of the lower quarters were his. The Kayors must own the castle and everything else in it. I followed Goban's directions. The fourth door on the left had a silver handle and was made of oak. I entered quietly not knowing what to expect. Abruptly I was met with a hug by Isa.
"Bryan!" She gasped and threw her arms around me. I hugged her back.
"Are you alright?" She asked.
"Yeah..." I breathed.
Anna and Mira ran over to us from a large dinning table full of food.
"Anna! Mira!" I exclaimed and hugged each of them respectfully. They each had a shirt like mine, the loose-fitted blouse with full bishop sleeves. Only theirs was decorated with large frills on the cuffs. Each shirt was a different color. Anna's was a dark blue, Mira's was maroon, and Isa's was olive green. They had a black corset on top. They also each had on a pair of black trousers that were voluminously wide, and reminiscent of a skirt. Along with black boots. Anna's hair was pulled back out of her face in a half up, half down do. Mira's was in high ponytail. While Isa's was in a low loose braid.
"What is all this?" I asked.
"We were hoping you'd know." Anna implied.
"I wish I did...Did that Goban guy send you in here?"
"He sent all of us here...and gave us all a blanket and a change of clothes last night." Mira answered.
"And the food?"
"We don't know we've been too afraid to touch it." Isa said and looked back at the table.
On the table were gold plates of freshly cooked meat, an assortment of fruits, candies, and bread. It smelled heavenly. There were gold goblets of ice water, and gold dishes of cakes, and chocolate. It was Earth food. For an alien world, they were serving Earth food. A large door at the end of the room opened and out stepped a 9 foot tall green alien with two arms and two legs like a human. It's head was square and looked like either an octopus or a beard at the bottom. It dawned a long purple robe, and had a silver crown on its head.
"Welcome my Earth children, I am Kaiser Kayor. The High King and ruler of this planet."
I had a lot of questions.
"Is the food not to your liking? I had it prepared especially for you."
"It...It's fine your Majesty...we just...we're really nervous being thrown into a strange place and all."
"You were not thrown here...I brought you here."
"So we understand...but why your Grace?" Isa prompted.
"Please sit and enjoy your breakfast. All shall be explained."
I looked into the mind of Kaiser. He spoke the truth, and the food was safe to eat. I ate first then my sisters. A special plate of food was brought to the king by a group of aliens that looked just like him. I noticed the king's fingers were webbed and it wasn't easy to pick up a fork, but he tried.
"Children...I am sorry for your quarters last night but I didn't want my wife to know you were here."
"And where is she now, your highness?" Mira asked keeping up the formality.
"We sent her away to find a new lot for our crops. She won't be back until sundown. When the purple falls and the pink rises."
Something about this seemed off, but he did clothe us, keep us warm, and feed us. If he wanted to hurt us he wouldn't have done that.
"King Kayor? Why have you brought us here?"
"It's Kala...my wife. She must be stopped. I cannot do it alone."
"Forgive me your Majesty, but that reptile alien Goban? He said something about a win? What did he mean?"
The King lowered his head. He grew sad and cold.
"My wife and I are unable to have children. Yet she wants them desperately...she had my people make a machine that can place a portal anywhere she chooses. Using these portals she gains access to many different realms across the galaxy. She'll go and scope it out for a while, and if she finds children she uses the portal to kidnap them."
We stared at him as he spoke.
"That is not the worst if it...she has these children battle against each other in our colosseum. She wants a strong warrior for a child or many strong warriors. If they fight and survive she gives them another chance to become her son or daughter by having them fight other races of children. If they win over all she will adopt them as her own, and they will become Prince or Princess of Galia. That is this homeworld. The other remaining children either die trying to please her in battle or she excutes them. I believe she is just doing all of this for sport and cruelty now. She would never allow a child to take her place as Queen one day. She loves her power far too much."
We gasped.
"But she did not bring you here...I did...with her technology. I seek help. Someone that will stand up to her and stop this. She has been doing this for 50 years."
"50?!" Mira shouted.
"Years?!" Anna cried out after.
"But your Majesty if she's been doing it for this long why seek help now?" Isa questioned.
"50 years to a human only about 5 years to our planet. And I was afraid. I'm still afraid. Kala has threatened to even have me executed if I interfere. I'm desperate...and I'm terrified."
"But King Kayor...you are the High King."
"High Kings are only a figure of our society...it is the High Queen that gives the orders. It has been that way for over 1300 years. We are a matriarchal country under a monarchy system, where the current queen holds the true authority of the country. I can do nothing."
"Then we'll help!" Mira exclaimed and stood up.
"We will?" Isa asked her.
"That's right we will, now that we have these we can!" Anna said in excitement and showed the king her bracelet. It was true the bracelets gave them their powers, and they were each still wearing them.
"I mean...I'm with child right now...and I can't stand the fact that children have been executed. It ends now!" Isa said and stood up.
"Fantastic!" The King cried.
They then turned toward me.
"Okay...but we're gonna need help. More help."
"I can use the portal to get whoever you need...I'm sure you can explain things to them?" King Kayor pondered. I stood up.
"Yeah...I need Harvey, Rosie, Uncle Jesse, and Uncle Justice." I smiled at the King, he smiled back.
