Chapter 11
King Kayor prepared a giant feast for us, and we awaited Queen Kala. He told Kala of these strange new children that have heard of her quest to find a child worthy enough of her; who wish to take on her offer. We are those children, and we are bound and determined to end her quest. Also even though only my sisters and I are truly siblings, King Kayor has told her highness we are all brothers and sisters. Truly sucks for me and Rosie. Definitely can't act all lovey dovey around each other for a while, since she's pretending to be my sister. Harvey was just finally happy to not be an only child. We were told not to eat until the Queen was present and ate first.
She finally entered the same doors King Kayor entered from, wearing a pink robe instead of purple. She looked just like the king. For this race of aliens it was difficult to tell the males from the females. The only difference was she bore a gold crown on her head. Her pink robe was longer and she carried a staff that had a pink tourmaline gem top.
"Greetings Children of Earth. My husband tells me you have travelled far to enter my domain and speak with me." She declared.
"Yes...we have." I spoke out of turn. I dropped all formality when speaking to her.
"And what are your names, pray tell...and please address me as Your Grace...or Your Excellency."
"My name is Bryan...your grace. These are my brothers and sisters-"
"Stop there Bryan...let them introduce themselves." She gave a small smile. "Shall we go once around the table...what's your name...what power do you possess? Ladies first."
"My name is Anna...I can manipulate water." Anna began.
"Fascinating...next." said the Queen.
"Mira...I control fire."
"I'm Isa...I can do lots of things with the Earth."
"And did thou swallow a bolder?" Queen Kala said in almost a laugh. I looked at Isa and she looked at her stomach.
"No...I'm just naturally big..." Isa replied softly.
"Oh I'm sorry...that was just too funny...
Next girl please."
"Rosie, Your Grace...I can control the Earth as well, but I can also control the energy around me and even absorb it."
"Intriguing young lady...you must be very popular with your kind. Now the boys...you, what is your name, pray?" She asked pointing to my Uncle Jesse.
"Jesse...and I can easily control the air."
"And the one next to you..."
"Justice...energy...lighting...things like that."
"I see...back to you Bryan."
Her tone of voice just saying my name looked as if it tasted bitter.
"Psychological..."
"Oooo do tell me more."
"I can uh...see the future...move things...create force fields...read your mind."
She looked at King Kayor. He only smiled shyly. She then turned to Harvey.
"That is...very interesting Bryan...now your final brother.
"Harvey...you can call me Harv and I can do just about anything you ask of me babe."
We all gasped. The king spit out his drink. I stared long and hard at him. We then looked at Queen Kala. Her expression didn't change despite Harvey's remark. Her eye didn't twitch, nor her face cringe. She merely smiled widely and let out a laugh. She laughed and laughed until she was out of breath. She had a very high pitched cackle. We nervously laughed with her. She then spoke.
"You are all so precious and preciously gifted, I know you are here to be my very own children; and as much as I'm in love with you already I must decline. You see I must see you in battle first against my strongest warriors. You win, I'll adopt you. You lose you go back home...it's as simple as that."
We knew that last statement was a lie. And as far as her loving us that was a lie too.
"I know you claim to be strong but you must prove it."
"So we understand Your Excellency."
"I trust you to be the oldest and the spokesperson of your family?"
"You could say that."
"Well know this...while you're here you aren't family...you are all competing to become apart of our family. Understand? Which means you will be separated until further notice."
We didn't expect this. Suddenly a group of servants came in to take us away, our hands bound in chains.
"Place them in the downstairs cells away from each other. Keep the girls away from the boys and so on." Queen Kala ordered.
"Wait a minute!" I shouted as the chained me.
"Bry!" Harvey yelled and the servant slapped him across the face. My sisters were on the verge of tears.
"On second thoughts keep the girls away from each other, and the boys away from each other as well. Give them each their own cell." Queen Kala commanded.
"No!" Isa screamed and tried to hang on to Anna and Mira's hands. They tried to fight back against their captors and reach for each other. My sisters had never been apart from one another. They kicked and screamed as they were pulled away. Queen Kala just smiled.
"Let me go!" Rosie cried.
"Rosie!" I called out to her.
"Bryan! Bryan! Bryannnn!" She screamed and cried.
I was tossed into a cell and left like a pile of trash. I couldn't hear my family. Who knows what could happen to them all now that we've been separated. We should have skipped everything and fought Queen Kala at the dinner table. This was certainly an unexpected turn of events I didn't forsee. When I was in a cell before I couldn't use my powers. That meant the others couldn't either. I didn't know what awaited them. I couldn't even be certain they would still be alive by the time I was to be released from my cell. I had to do something. My only hope now was that they survived.
