Wangbu: We have intention of giving each Ed their own rival in future chapters.
Welcome to Jubilife City
It was just before sunset that the Eds reached Jubilife. On the way there, they took the opportunity to train their Pokemon. Ever since Eddy found out that Pokemon trainers can win money from winning battles, he was very motivated to train very hard. He even studies the book Professor Rowan gave them to learn about everything that could possibly give him an advantage in future battles, such as type advantages/disadvantages. It was during this extra training that their starters each learned a new move. Chimchar learned Taunt, Turtwig learned Growth, and Piplup learned Charm. Ed also trained the Starly he captured and it learned Quick Attack. When the Eds reached Jubilife City, they are in awe of the size of it. Living in a suburban neighborhood most of their lives, they never seen a city before, not counting the cardboard one they made a while back. As much as they wanted to take in the sights, it was getting dark and they were getting very sleepy.
"So what now?" asked Eddy.
"I think we should take our Pokemon to the Pokemon Center. It should be easy enough to find. The guidebook says that Pokemon Centers usually have red roofs on them." said Edd.
"You mean like that one?" asked Ed, who was pointing towards a building. Edd and Eddy look to see that it was in fact, the Pokemon Center.
"Good work, Ed." said Edd.
"Let's hurry up and drop off our Pokemon so we can try finding a place to sleep. I hope we have enough money from those Pokemon Battles we just had to pay for a motel room we can sleep." said Eddy.
"Good idea, Eddy." said Edd. They walk over to the Pokemon Center and enter it. Looking around, they see a few other trainers hanging around, talking. The Eds soon see the front desk with a nurse behind it, so they walk up to her.
"Hello, boys. What can I do for you?" asked the nurse. The Eds hand her their pokeballs.
"Could you take care of our Pokemon for us, ma'am?" asked Edd.
"Certainly. I'll treat them right away." said the nurse as she puts the pokeballs on a cart.
"Excuse me. But do you know of any motels around here? We're very tired from our journey and we would like to rest." said Edd.
"This must be your first time in a Pokemon Center." said the nurse. "There are sleeping rooms here for trainers to use."
"Okay. How much would one cost?" asked Edd.
"Actually, rooms and food are free for any trainers." replied the nurse. Eddy's eyes lit up.
"FREE ROOMS?! FREE FOOD?!" exclaimed Eddy.
"Yes. The Sinnoh League provides it for all trainers." replied the nurse. "Speaking of the Sinnoh League, have you boys registered for it yet?"
"What's the Sinnoh League?" asked Ed.
"Don't you remember what Professor Rowan told us?" asked Edd.
"I forgot, Double-D." replied Ed.
"The Sinnoh League is that annual Pokemon Battle competition." explained Edd.
"That's right, young man. Hundreds of trainers from all over the Sinnoh region gather there once a year to determine who's the best trainer in Sinnoh." said the nurse. Eddy looked at the nurse, then thought back to the money they won from those trainers.
'Hmm. Hundreds of trainers gather there to battle? That means there will be more chances to win more money! If we compete, then we could be rich!' Eddy thought to himself.
"Eddy! Can we sign up? It sounds like fun." said Ed.
"Yeah! Think of all the money we could win from winning there!" said Eddy.
"Hmm. It could be a good opportunity to see other different kinds of Pokemon as well." said Edd. They all look at the nurse.
"Where can we register?!" asked Eddy. The nurse pulls out a tablet and stylus.
"Just sign here and let me take a picture of each of you. I'll get you registered and print out your Sinnoh League trainer cards. I'll have them ready for you in the morning." said the nurse.
"Sweet." said Eddy.
"Thank you, nurse." said Edd. The nurse hands them a key.
"You're in room 5. It's down that hall, third door on the right." said the nurse.
"Eddy, I'm hungry." said Ed.
"The cafeteria is right over there." the nurse said, pointing to a small area with restaurant tables and a serving area. After the Eds got registered, Ed starts running over to the cafeteria. The other two follow after him. Ten minutes later, the Eds were eating at a table. Ed was having a double cheeseburger, fries, and a soda. Edd was having a turkey sandwich, chips, and a lemonade. Eddy was having a couple slices of pizza and a soda.
"Man, this is great. Free rooms and free food." said Eddy, as he took a bite of pizza.
"This solves our food and lodging problems." said Edd.
"Yeah." said Ed as he took a big bite of his cheeseburger.
"Hey, Double-D. What did that Professor Rowan guy say about needing badges to compete in the Sinnoh League?" asked Eddy.
"We each need eight badges to be able to compete in the Sinnoh League." said Edd. "In order to acquire the badges, we need to win Pokemon Battles against the leaders of each gym that are scattered throughout the region."
"That doesn't sound too hard." said Eddy.
"But Eddy, we just started out as Pokemon trainers. I feel these gym leaders are far more experienced than us, thus giving them an advantage." said Edd.
"Then we'll just have to do lots of training." said Eddy.
"Okay. But let's just get some sleep. We can start in the morning." said Edd.
"Whatever." said Eddy. After they ate; they all went to their room, showered (except for Ed.) and went to bed. An hour later, Ed and Eddy were fast asleep, but Edd had a hard time sleeping, mainly because he has trouble sleeping in an unlabeled environment; so he decided to go for a walk. As he was about to exit the Pokemon Center, the nurse called out to him.
"Young man. Where are you going?" asked the nurse.
"Just for a walk outside of the city." answered Edd.
"Well make sure to be back by eleven o' clock. That's when we lock up for the night." said the nurse. "Oh, by the way young man. Your Piplup is fully healed." the nurse holds out Piplup's pokeball and Edd grabs it. "You'll probably need it if you're going to be walking outside of town by yourself at night.
"I will. Thanks for telling me." said Edd as he walked out the doors. Ten minutes later south of the city, Edd was walking around, looking at the clear night sky. 'I can't believe how much has happened in over one day. One minute we were running for our lives, the next thing we knew, we end up in a foreign land with creatures we never even heard of. Above all that, we're signed up to compete in a competiton involving having these creatures battle to determine who the best trainer in the region is. I wonder if we'll even be able to win the badges required to even compete. How do we end up in these situations?' Edd thought to himself. He suddenly hears a noise to his right, coming from some tall grass. Edd looks towards the grass, a red, bug-like Pokemon with two black antennae walked out of it, it stops and looks at Edd, he takes out the pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Kricketot, the Cricket Pokemon. It chats with others using the sounds of its colliding antennae. These sounds are the hallmarks of fall evenings." said the pokedex.
"Well if I'm going to compete in the Sinnoh League, it would be a good idea to capture more Pokemon to battle with." said Edd. He pulls out Piplup's pokeball and throws it. "Piplup. I choose you." Piplup comes out of the pokeball and gets ready. Kricketot also gets into a battle stance. "Okay, Piplup. Let's try out your Charm attack." Piplup puts his flippers to his mouth, then spreads them apart, releasing pink hearts, charming the Kricketot, lowering its attack in the process. Kricketot runs towards Piplup and uses its Pound attack. It doesn't do as much damage as it probably normally would because of Piplup's Charm attack. "Okay, Piplup. Use Water Gun." Piplup release a gush of water out of his mouth which hits the Kricketot, doing damage to it. Because of Piplup's higher level, it does enough damage to make it fall on it's back. Edd quickly grabs an empty pokeball from his pocket, enlarges it, and throws it at Kricketot, hitting it's belly. Kricketot is then sucked into the pokeball and it falls to the ground. Edd watches the pokeball wiggle until it finally stops and clicks, indicating that Kricketot was successfully captured. Edd jogs over to the pokeball and picks it up. "Splendid. My first capture." exclaimed Edd. He pulls out the pokedex and uses it to look up his new Kricketot. "According to this, my new Kricketot knows Pound and Growl and has the ability, Shed Skin, which will cure it of any status condition. Remarkable." He then heads back to Jubilife City and into the Pokemon Center. Once inside, he hands his pokeballs to the nurse and goes back to his and the others' room. Once there, he gets in bed and falls asleep. The next morning, the Eds wake up and have breakfast. Edd and Eddy have pancakes and orange juice. Ed has a plate that was stacked with buttered toast and a glass of milk to go with it. While they ate, Edd told the others about him capturing Kricketot.
"Oh, boy. A new Pokemon to be our friend." said Ed.
"Maybe I should try capturing some Pokemon for my team. The more Pokemon I have, the more likely I'll be able to win." said Eddy.
"We should try capturing lots of different types of Pokemon so we'll more likely have a type advantage against future opponents." said Edd.
"Good thinking, Double-D." said Eddy.
"We can get started after we finish eating." said Edd.
"So let's hurry up and finish eating so we can get started." said Eddy as he started to eat faster.
"Slow down, Eddy. You don't want to choke." warned Edd. But Eddy just ignores him. "Why do I even bother?" Edd asked himself as he continues eating. After they finished eating, they went over to the front desk to pick up their Pokemon. The nurse also handed them their new trainer cards and badge cases.
"What are these things?" asked Eddy as he examined his badge case.
"Those are badge cases. Just something to keep the gym badges you earn in."
"Oh. Thanks." said Eddy. They put the gym badge cases in their back pockets and leave the Pokemon Center to continue their journey.
