AUTHOR'S NOTES: It's a funny thing about this movie-funny 'interesting', not funny 'ha-ha'-I can't stop watching it and every time I do different things register and I have new ideas for stories and headcanons.
And listening to the song 'Waiting On a Miracle' I started thinking about a refrain for this song done by Mirabel's mother, Julieta. You know, after the arepa scene after Mirabel cuts her hand?
I know songfics are a questionable topic for a lot of fanfiction readers and original lyrics to existing songs are even trickier, but I hope some of y'all enjoy this.
BTW, Please don't shoot me if I mangled the tiny bit of Spanish I used here. It's how things went as I kind of sang this in my head.
ENCANTO: A Mother's Healing Touch
Julieta tried to think of something more uplifting as she healed the cut on her daughter's hand, but Mirabel was still upset and inconsolable as she headed off to bed.
Putting the rest of the arepas away for later, the Madrigal Family healer found her gaze drawn to the family tree painted on the wall and she gently touched her youngest daughter's image.
"Your love could move the mountains
Your smile could make the flowers grow
Mija, tell me how I can help you-I need to know"
As she continued to clean and straighten the kitchen, Julieta continued singing, her voice soft and gentle.
"I can mend what's broken
Cuts and burns, stings and sprains
But tell me, daughter, how I can heal YOUR pain
You're my miracle"
Leaving the kitchen and quietly heading down the hallway, she stopped by the portrait of her father and perched on the stairs, looking up at a man she'd never really met but whose love she always felt.
"Papa, I don't know why Mirabel wasn't given a Gift," Julieta whispered, sadly. "But she's my little girl and I need to know how to help her."
"Her love could break the mountains
Her smile can make the flowers bloom
Tell me, Papa, how I can help
My brokenhearted daughter crying up in her room
"I don't care about the stupid Gifts
I'd gladly give her mine
I just want to see my Miracle-my Mirabel
Light up and shine like all of us shine
"Help her find her miracle
Help her inner strength blossom and grow
I'm scared that I might lose her like we lost dear Bruno"
At the mention of her brother's name, Julieta felt an ache in her heart and she made a silent prayer to keep him safe and bring him back to the family.
Standing up, she went by Mirabel's bedroom but before she opened the door, she hesitated and instead put a hand on the door in an unspoken 'good night'.
Walking to her own bedroom, Julieta's voice filled the still, cool night once more.
"Mirabel, I named you for beauty
Because you're the light of my life
And I hope that one day your troubles will end
And everything will turn out alright
"You're my dear, sweet angel
Every day I thank God that he gave me you
I know that one day you will discover
A way to show the whole familia what you can do
Because you're MY miracle"
