Route 203 and Oreburgh Gate
Edd was facing off against a trainer on Route 203. The trainer was a boy with a Machop. Edd had out his Kricketot.
"Okay, Kricketot. Use Struggle Bug." Edd told Kricketot. Kricketot uses Struggle Bug against the Machop, doing damage to it, but also weakening its' special attack power.
"Machop! Use Low Kick!" the boy told Machop. Machop hits Kricketot with a kick to the lower half of Kricketot's body. But due to the fact that Kricketot was a bug-type Pokemon, fighting-type moves like Low Kick aren't very effective against him.
"Kricketot. Finish this with your Pound attack." said Edd. Kricketot rushes forward and hits Machop with Pound, knocking him out, and winning the battle for Edd.
"Machop. No." said the boy, disappointed with his loss. The boy returns Machop to its' pokeball and walks over to Edd. "Good battle." The boy hands Edd pokedollars and heads off to Jubilife City to get his Machop healed. Edd looks at Kricketot.
"Excellent job, Kricketot." said Edd.
"Kricketot." replied Kricketot. Suddenly, Kricketot freezes up. Edd looks at him with concern.
"Kricketot? Are you okay?" Edd asked. Kricketot then started to glow brightly.
"Take cover, he's gonna blow!" said Eddy as he ran behind a nearby rock.
"Wait, Eddy. I don't think he's going to explode." said Edd. The glowing suddenly stopped, and standing where Kricketot was at was a Pokemon that had the same colors as Kricketot; but it was taller, it had a long neck, longer arms that looked like it had blades at the end of them, it had black wings on it's back, antennae that looked like its' arms, and a mustache that looked like Kricketot's antennae.
"KRICKETOT MUTATED, YOU GUYS!" Ed yells out.
"No, Edd. Kricketot didn't mutate; he evolved." said Edd.
"Evolved? What does that mean?" asked Eddy.
"I've read about this. Some Pokemon, when they become strong enough, change into stronger versions of themselves." explained Edd.
"Well what's Kricketot now?" asked Eddy. Edd pulls out the pokedex and points it at the new Pokemon.
"Kricketune, the Cricket Pokemon, and the evolved form of Kricketot. It signals its emotions with its melodies. Scientists are studying these melodic patterns." said the pokedex.
"Incredible. So that's what an evolution looks like. And according to the pokedex, Kricketune just learned Fury Cutter, and it no longer has the Shed Skin ability, instead it has the ability, Swarm, which powers up his bug-type attacks when his stamina is low." said Edd.
"Will my Pokemon evolve, Double-D?" asked Ed.
"I'm sure they will. Mind you that some Pokemon evolve in different ways. We'll just have to wait and see. This is so exciting." said Edd.
"Yeah, yeah. Enough standing around. Onward to Oreburgh City." said Eddy. As he and the others continued forward, they were approached by a boy.
"Hi. Would any of you like to have a Pokemon Battle?" asked the boy.
"Ooh, ooh. I would." replied Ed as he walked over to the boy. The boy throws a pokeball.
"Kricketot, I choose you." said the boy, throwing a pokeball, releasing a Kricketot.
"Come on out, Starly." said Ed, throwing a pokeball, releasing Starly. "Starly, use Quick Attack." Starly flies at Kricketot with incredible speed and rams into Kricketot, knocking it back.
"Kricketot, use Pound." said the boy. Kricketot leaps toward Starly and pounds it.
"Starly!" cried Starly.
"Starly, use Wing Attack!" said Ed. Starly flies toward Kricketot and strikes it with one of his wings, causing super effective damage due to Wing Attack being a flying-type move, which is strong against bug-types. It was too much for Kricketot and it faints. "Yay! I win!"
"You did good, Kricketot. Return." said the boy, returning Kricketot to its pokeball. He walks over to Ed and gives him pokedollars. "I better bring Kricketot over to the Pokemon Center. See ya." He walks past the Eds towards Jubilife City.
"Bye." said Ed, waving at the boy.
"Can we hurry up? We need to get to Oreburgh and gets our gym badges." said Eddy.
"Very well. Let's go, Ed." Edd says to Ed. Ed happily runs after them. They soon reach the entrance to Oreburgh Gate and go inside. As they walked through the tunnel, they see a hiker who steps in front of them.
"Hello, young trainers." said the hiker.
"Umm. Hello, sir." said Edd.
"What do you want?" asked Eddy.
"I can see that you're all rookie trainers." said the hiker.
"Yeah? So what?" replied Eddy.
"Allow me to help you out. Take these Technical Machines." said the hiker as he handed each of the Eds a TM.
"Thank you. May I ask what attack is on these TMs?" asked Edd.
"It's the move called Rock Smash." answered the hiker. "Also, I see that you also have a Poketch. I have an app to go along with that TM." said the hiker. He pulls out a computer chip and puts it in their Poketch.
"What is this app?" asked Edd.
"It's the Hidden Move app. An app that allows you to use certain Pokemon moves outside of battle, like the Rock Smash attack I just gave you. Rock Smash allows you to destroy big boulders like this one right here." said the hiker, gesturing to a nearby boulder.
"Hey. That boulder's just like the ones that were blocking our path in the Ravaged Path!" said Eddy.
"Maybe when we're done in Oreburgh City, we can go back there and clear the way for us to travel through." suggested Edd.
"Just so you boys know, you can't use the Rock Smash move outside of battle until you get the Oreburgh Gym badge." said the hiker.
"What? But we have the app and Rock Smash move right now. Why do we need to have the gym badge to use it?!" asked Eddy.
"That is one of the biggest mysteries in the Pokemon world." said the hiker. (a/n: Seriously. Why do we need to have the gym badge to use an HM outside of battle?)
"Whatever. Now we have another reason to get that gym badge." said Eddy.
"Thank you for the TMs and the app." said Edd.
"You're welcome." said the hiker. The Eds continue on their way to Oreburgh City. As they were walking, Eddy trips over something and falls flat on his face.
"OOF!" Eddy responded as he hit the ground.
"Eddy! Are you okay?" asked Edd.
"Yeah, I'm fine. What the heck did I trip over?" asked Eddy. They look to see a half-buried rock in the ground. "Stupid rock." Suddenly, the rock started to move.
"Is that rock moving?" asked Edd. The rock pops out of the ground, revealing that it had eyes, a mouth, and two arms." Edd pulls out his pokedex and points it at the rock-like creature.
"Geodude, the Rock Pokemon. It is impossible to distinguish from rocks. It slams against others in contests of toughness." said the pokedex.
"That's a Pokemon, Eddy." said Edd. Eddy stares at the Geodude.
"A Pokemon like that sounds pretty tough. Just the kind of Pokemon I'd like on my team." said Eddy as he pulled out a pokeball.
"Are you gonna catch it, Eddy?" asked Ed.
"Of course I am, monobrow. Now sit back and watch the master. Chimchar, I choose you." says Eddy as he throws Chimchar's pokeball, releasing it.
"Chimchar." says Chimchar as he gets ready for battle.
"Okay, Chimchar. Use Ember." says Eddy. Chimchar releases Ember from his mouth, hitting Geodude. But it didn't seem to do a lot of damage. "What the. Why didn't it do much damage?" asked Eddy.
"Fire-type attacks aren't very effective against rock-type Pokemon like Geodude, Eddy." Edd answered. Geodude raises his arms, summoning up a sandstorm that does a lot of damage to him.
"Chimchar!" Chimchar screams in pain.
"Eddy! That Geodude seems to know Sandstorm. It's a rock-type attack, and those are super effective against fire-types like Chimchar." said Edd.
"Uh oh." said Eddy. Suddenly, Eddy remembers something. "Hey, sockhead. Didn't Chimchar learn a new move a while back?" Eddy asked Edd.
"Yes. Power-Up Punch. It's a fighting-type move, and those are very effective against rock-types. Hurry up and use it." said Edd.
"Okay. Chimchar, use Power-Up Punch" said Eddy. Chimchar runs up to Geodude and punches it hard, doing a lot of damage.
"Eddy. I suggest capturing it before it Sandstorm strikes again. That move does damage occasionally." said Edd.
"You got it!" said Eddy as he pulls out an empty pokeball, enlarges it, and throws it at Geodude. The pokeball hits Geodude and sucks it in. The pokeball wiggles a few times, then it stops, clicks, indicating a successful capture. "Whew. That was a close one."
"Eddy. You should use one of your potions on Chimchar. It looks badly hurt from that Sandstorm attack." said Edd, pointing out Chimchar in pain. Eddy pulls a potion out of his backpack and sprays Chimchar with it, healing it a little bit.
"Are you okay, Chimchar?" asked Eddy.
"Chimchar." replied Chimchar, giving a thumbs up. Eddy looks at his newly captured Geodude.
"Hey, Double-D. What moves does Geodude know?" asked Eddy. Edd looks at the pokedex.
"It looks like it knows Tackle, Defense Curl, and Sandstorm. It also has the ability, Sturdy. It prevents Geodude from being knocked out in one attack. " said Edd.
"Sweet. That means Geodude can't be beaten right away, no matter what." said Eddy.
"Eddy. Maybe you should use a potion on Geodude, just in case. Chimchar's Power-Up Punch did a lot of damage to it.
"Okay." said Eddy as he releases Geodude from it's pokeball.
"Geodude." said Geodude.
"Hey, Geodude. Sorry about roughing you up before. How about letting me heal you up a bit." said Eddy as he pulled out his last potion. Geodude nods in response. Eddy sprays Geodude, healing it. After that, they continue walking down the tunnel. As they walked further down the tunnel, a boy steps in front of them.
"Excuse me. Can I battle one of you?" asked the boy. Eddy steps forward.
"I'll do it." said Eddy as he pulls out Geodude's pokeball. "Okay, Geodude. Time for our first battle together." Eddy releases Geodude.
"Geodude." said Geodude. The boy throws a pokeball as well.
"Shinx. I choose you." said the boy. A Shinx comes out of the pokeball.
"Shinx." says Shinx.
"Okay, Shinx. Use Tackle." said the boy. The Shinx charges at Geodude and tackles it, but it doesn't do a lot of damage.
"Eddy. Normal-type attacks like Tackle don't do a lot of damage to rock-types like Geodude." Edd pointed out.
"Sweet. Okay, Geodude. Use Sandstorm." said Eddy. Geodude summons a sandstorm, dealing damage to Shinx.
"Shinx!" Shinx screams in pain.
"Shinx! Use Thundershock!" yells the boy. Shinx release a surge of electricity at Geodude, hitting it. But it didn't look like Geodude even feel anything.
"What happened? Why didn't it do anything to Geodude?" asked Eddy
"Geodude is part ground-type. Electric-type attacks like Thundershock are virtually useless against them." explained Edd.
"HA! Looks like you're Shinx is outmatched. Okay, Geodude. Use Tackle." said Eddy. Geodude charges forward and slams into Shinx.
"No, Shinx. Use Tackle again." said the boy. Shinx runs at Geodude and tackles it again, not doing much damage again. Suddenly, the Sandstorm reappears, doing more damage to Shinx.
"That Sandstorm is all over the place. Is Geodude okay?" asked Eddy.
"Don't worry, Eddy. Because Geodude is a rock-type and ground-type Pokemon, Sandstorm won't hurt him." said Edd.
"Sweet! Geodude, finish Shinx with one more Tackle." said Eddy. Geodude tackles Shinx again, this time it's knocked out.
"Shinx!" yelled the boy.
"We win!" cheered Eddy. The boy returns Shinx to it's pokeball, gives Eddy pokedollars, and exits the tunnel. Eddy returns Geodude to it's pokeball.
"That was an amazing battle, Eddy." said Edd.
"Yeah, it was pretty sweet; wasn't it?" replied Eddy. They once again continue with their journey. They see the other end of the tunnel. But before they could reach it, a girl steps in front of them.
"Would any of you like to battle?" asked the girl. Edd steps forward.
"I'll battle. This will be an excellent opportunity to try out Kricketune in battle." said Edd. The girl pulls out a pokeball and throws it.
"Budew, I choose you." said the girl, releasing a Budew. Edd throws Kriketune's pokeball and releases it.
"Kricketune, use Fury Cutter." said Edd. Kricketune flies forward and slashes Budew.
"Budew!" exclaimed Budew as it flies backward.
"Budew, Absorb." said the girl. Budew hits Kricketune with an Absorb attack, but it doesn't do much damage.
"Okay, Kricketune. One more Fury Cutter." said Edd. Kricketune slashes at Budew again, but with more force than before, enough to knock Budew out. "Fury Cutter is an amazing attack. It become more powerful each time it's used mutiple times in a row." The girl returns Budew to its' pokeball and she pulls out another one.
"Psyduck! Come on out!" said the girl as she threw a pokeball, releasing a yellow, duck-like Pokemon.
"What Pokemon is that?" asked Edd as he pulled out the pokedex.
"Psyduck, the Duck Pokemon. It never remembers using its odd powers, so it always tilts its head in puzzlement." said the pokedex.
"Psyduck. Use Scratch attack." said the girl. Psyduck runs forward and scratches Kricketune.
"Kricketune. Use Fury Cutter once more." said Edd. Kricketune slashes Psyduck with enough power to knock it out. "Good thing the Fury Cutter power increases last the entire battle it's used in." The girl returns Psyduck to its pokeball, gives Edd pokedollars, and goes out the tunnel exit. The Eds also leave the tunnel and finally reach their destination: Oreburgh City.
