"NO- No! Danny- the other left! That way!"
As Danny turned smoothly through the intersection, his mom was yelling her head off in the passenger seat. Like, c'mon, he only had to phase through one other car! It wasn't like she even noticed that, anyways. He was doing fine! And the tires were definitely not screeching. No, of course not.
Danny could hear his mom's heartbeat rise as he rolled to a stop at the next intersection. Sure maybe he was a bit farther out than he should've been, but he was still learning! It was fine. His mom even made him put that stupid 'student driver' sticker on the back of Jazz's car. (It technically belonged to their parents, but they drove the GAV most of the time anyways, so it was practically hers. Jazz had been all-too-eager to give it up, though, for Danny's 'driving lessons.' They were more like 'see how long your enhanced eardrums can stand your mother's shouting' lessons in his opinon.)
"If you kill me I will come back as a ghost and haunt you," Said his mom darkly. Jeez, that was a bit harsh.
"I thought there had to be strong emotions at death to become a ghost?" Danny questioned. The light turned green in his peripheral vision. He pressed down on the gas pedal and the car rolled forward. His mom reached for the roof handle yet again. They proceeded in silence for a moment, before reaching a stop sign. He was only jerked forward a little, this time.
"My emotions will be how much I want revenge on- STAY ON THE ROAD!" He swerved slightly, perhaps maybe clipping the edge of a trashcan that'd been put out on the curb. It wasn't his fault he could hear the sound of ecto-gun fire somewhere nearby, and was searching the sky for threats. He held in a hiccup as his ghost sense went off. Another stop sign- the car shuddered.
"Eyes on the street, Danny! You know that!" He rolled his eyes, taking his glance off of Valerie fighting someone up above. Stupid driving lessons, Danny should be up there in the sky- not down here being honked at. Why-?
Oh. He was pressing the brake, not the gas.
Danny transitioned to the other pedal and they zoomed forward. He looked up just in time to see Valerie get thrown out of the air, and looked down just in time to see they were in the middle of an intersection- and a car to their right was trying its best to squeal to a halt. In the split second, Danny could tell it wasn't gonna stop in time. Ancients-
Ghostly instinct kicked in, and Danny turned the whole car intangible. He fought to keep its wheels meshing with the ground and skidded against the pavement as he took a hard left. His concentration lapsed and the momentum threw them up, into the air.
And then Valerie went sailing right through them. Danny caught the panicked look in her eyes for just a moment, before she was gone. She collided with the dirt somewhere beneath them. Danny panicked and the car snapped back to being tangible. He realized suddenly that his mom was still screaming in his ear. She held onto the handle for dear life.
Oh for the love of Clockwork-
…
This was gonna be a hard one to explain.
